At last! EFCC releases blogger, Abubakar Usman, from detention

After spending over 38 hours in the custody of EFCC over alleged cyber-stalking', popular political blogger Abubakar Usman has been released.
His lawyer, Michael Bello said his client was released on an administrative bail with conditions that he must make himself available to the EFCC whenever he received an invitation to such effect.

“I can confirm to you that my client has just been released on bail,” Mr. Bello said in a brief telephone conversation with PREMIUM TIMES. “He is very grateful to Nigerians for voicing out against his detention.”

Mr. Usman, a pro-government blogger, was whisked away from his residence by operatives on Monday morning, on allegations that he breached the Cyber Crime Act, 2015.
His family said his arrest was in connection to a story he published on his website which the EFCC deemed critical of its chairman, Ibrahim Magu.

Basketmouth cries out – I did not campaign or vote for Buhari

Below is what comedian Basketmouth wrote on his Instagram page.
Time To Clear The Air
I usually try not to pay attention to comments from people that assume stuff or those who judge others based on perceptions. However I have also come to agree that when lies are said often enough, they begin to sound like truths. So I think it’s best I use this medium to clear the issue of “campaigns” and “support” now.
While many of my colleagues, friends and family members campaigned for the PDP, APC and various candidates during the last elections (and I cannot emphasize enough that it is their RIGHT to do so), I NEVER campaigned for BUHARI or ANY other politician. ALL those saying that I did should do everything within their power to “THINK”. I know thinking can be a very difficult task for some but trust me, it can be a painless and enlightening process. THINK of when I ever “CAMPAIGNED” for BUHARI!!.. Indeed I personally HOPED that he would win the election and perhaps that was evident in my “body language” and I am happy he won. But I did not campaign for him.
Nigeria was in a bad place by the end of the last administration and it was only a matter of time before we would have suffered the plights of Brazil and Venezuela. Truth of the matter is that I would have voted ANYONE that could speak 2 words of English against GEJ and that’s strictly based on the amount of greed and selfishness we witnessed from members of his administration in the 6 years that he sat on the rock. They put us in this Septic tank we are in right now…..well, that and the oil price downfall amongst other things.
I have said it numerous times that I am not a politician hence I try not to dabble in politics. However I think a few people interpret crying out against injustice by the one as campaign for the other. When the Late FELA KUTI and BOB MARLEY cried out against the injustices in their days, were they being partisan? Of course not. They were just being HUMAN!
I am forever grateful to God for blessing me with a flourishing career, a beautiful family, food on my table and small change in my pocket. However I see too many people everyday who have not been so lucky to travel and see the way things are outside Nigeria/Africa. I have seen how GOVERNMENT can influence and affect the lives of the downtrodden positively. I am still patient, praying and hoping that PMB can turn Nigeria’s economy around and help strengthen Nigeria’s social justice system. Not so I can cheer him and be vindicated that I was right and some were wrong, but so my friends, family members and well-wishers who haven’t been favored as others can have renewed hope in our country Nigeria and the brotherhood we have enjoyed in this generation. Even the United States went through a tough recession in 2008 and with some patience they have been able to turn that around.
So long story short, did I campaign for PMB? NO! Do I support and PRAY that his administration should succeed and improve the life of the common man, increase security, food, jobs, infrastructure, quality of education, healthcare and every other area that will make Nigerians proud wherever they may find themselves? YES!! On the other hand, should he and his party fail, we are all free to cast our votes for the next man come 2019 and I shall be exercising that right. No need for quarrel.

Aid Worker Who Rescued Witch Child In Akwa Ibom Builds Children Center In Nigeria -Photos

Danish aid worker, Anja Ringgren Lovén, who rescued and rehabilitated a little boy that was accused of witchcraft and abandoned by his family in Akwa Ibom, shared these photos of a Children's center she's currently building in Nigeria. According to Anja, her charitable organization DINNødhjælp bought a very big piece of land here in Nigeria last year and are now building a center in collaboration with Engineers Without Borders.
According to her,
"Land of Hope" is the name of our new land which is also written above our main gate. The wall all around our big land has already been build and razor wire all around has been placed on the top of the wall.
We are now in the proces of building 6 of our main buildings: Girls hostel, boys hostel, kitchen both indoor and outdoor, office/library building, security/generator house and volonteers house. Hopefully we will finish in a few months. It's rainy season so the rain is giving us some challenges but the workers are really working fast and our engineer is doing a great job!
We are also going to build a Parliamentary Hall which will serve as an "Event Center". We will also build an ICT- Center ( Information Communication Technology Center ).
And finally we will as most of you also know build a Medical Health Clinic which we have already named "Hope's Clinic" - donated by Denmark. "Land of Hope" will be the future land for the vulnerable children in Nigeria. A land of hope for a brighter future.

Obasanjo’s claim that we’re gasping for breath only exists in his imagination – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has responded to the recent assertion by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, that the party is gasping for breath, insisting that such claim existed only in the imagination of those making it.
The former president had while debunking a photo news which went viral on the social media, where he was alleged to have attended a PDP event held in Abuja, said through his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, that he left the party when it was alive and bubbling, therefore, could not have rejoined “a now divided, factionalised party gasping for breath.”
But the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, Chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, made a veiled reference to Obasanjo yesterday while inaugurating an 18-member peace committee headed by Prof. Jerry Gana.According to him, “Leaders who are talking in newspapers that this party is not alive, the party is alive. It is only in the imagination of those saying that this party is dead and that it will not come back.
Apparently referring to Obasanjo, he said,“Such people should change their minds. If he comes back to this party, we are ready to receive him,” Jibrin said.

“You’re a total failure,” APC chieftain slams Buhari

A factional chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, Hussaini Mairiga, on Monday came down hard on President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the president as a total failure.
Mr. Mairiga, who spoke with journalists in Kano, said “from the looks of things President Buhari has betrayed the confidence of the Nigerian masses who voted for him massively into power.”
The president, who was elected on the platform of the APC, assumed office on May 29, 2015.
The factional chairman said it was not an exaggeration that members of many families in the country go to bed without at least one square meal while others had fled their homes because they could no longer provide the basic needs of life for their loved ones.
Mr. Mairiga, who is known for his bluntness, expressed worry that after one year of the Buhari administration in power, there was nothing to show while poverty in the country had reached an unprecedented level.
He lamented that while a bag of rice now sold for N16, 000, prices of other essentials commodities had tripled.
Mr. Mairiga noted with dismay that prices of goods were rising at a time the ordinary man did not have money to make a living.
Another disturbing scenario, according to the factional APC chairman, was that those around the president, including his ministers, had refused to tell him the truth and advice on the reality on ground.
He reminded Mr. Buhari of his campaign promises, stating that he did not like the way the masses were allowed to wallow in destitution and penury.
He said Nigerians were in the worst condition that needed urgent attention.
The APC Chairman advised the president to stop deceiving Nigerians that the nation had no money whereas on monthly basis the federal and states governments continued to enjoy boost in their allocations.
Mr. Mairiga asked the federal government to urgently open all the closed borders with other countries to allow food into the country
He warned that if urgent steps were not taken to address the present situation in the country, Nigerians would soon begin to die of hunger on the streets.

17-year-old pregnant girl dies after drinking ‘otapiapia’ in Lagos

A 17-year-old pregnant girl, simply identified as Temitope Saka, has died after drinking insecticide, (Sniper), in the Igando area of Lagos State.

Saka allegedly blamed her grandma for her suicide mission.

Punch reports that Saka’s boyfriend reported the case at the Igando police division, which led to the arrest of the woman.

An eyewitness explained that Saka, who was the only child of her parents, was taken to her grandmother’s house on Mofoluwasho Close, Alhaji Ede bus stop, Igando after her mother died when she was three years.

The source said, “She had been living with her grandma since her mother died. The grandma is a trader in Ikotun, where the girl met her boyfriend, who is also a trader.

“There were times that the girl brought the man home and he spent the night with her because the grandma went for vigils.”

After taking in, out of fear, she drank the poison and began foaming in the mouth at her boyfriend’s house.

She was said to have been rushed to the Igando General Hospital where she was confirmed dead by the doctors.

Her boyfriend, who saw the suicide note, was said to have reported the incident to the police.

A resident said, “The girl and the boyfriend loved each other. The man did not even reject the pregnancy.

“The grandma probably chased her away because she could not stand the shame that the girl got pregnant out of wedlock.

“Last Wednesday, while she was at the boyfriend’s house, she started foaming in the mouth and she was taken to the hospital.

“The boyfriend found a suicide note where she accused her grandma of causing her death. He reported to the police.

“The police took the note and arrested the woman. She was in tears at the bus stop as she kept saying she didn’t mean any harm.”

Herbalist kills 13-year-old boy while testing anti-bullets charms

There was confusion in Enugu community over the weekend after a 26-year-old herbalist, Ekene Oluka, allegedly killed a 13-year-old, Obumuneme Oluka, while testing his anti-bullet charm on the deceased.
The incident occurred at Amagu-Uwani, Mgboko, Aku of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Enugu State.

Punch reports that the herbalist, whose whereabouts remain unknown at the moment, had, at different occasions, successfully tested his charms, which was said to protect against bullets and cutlass, on the young man.

The report that the herbalist, after covering Obumuneme’s body with his concoction, hit him with a bottle, which went through his vital organs, leaving him unconscious.

Its Official, Pogba Joins Man Utd for a world record transfer Fee Value £104M

The France midfielder has returned to Old Trafford from Juventus, a mere four years after departing the club for a nominal fee, and becomes the most expensive transfer ever
Manchester United have completed the signing of Paul Pogba from Juventus.

Pogba left United to join Juve in 2012 but Jose Mourinho has now re-acquired the France international midfielder for a world-record transfer fee.

The 23-year-old, who has long been linked with a return to Old Trafford, has now become the most expensive player in football history, overtaking the deal that took Gareth Bale from Tottenham to Real Madrid in 2013.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce that Paul Pogba has completed his transfer from Italian club Juventus," the club wrote on their official website.

"Paul joins on a five-year contract, with the option to extend for a further year."

Pogba is reported to earn an astonishing £104m pre-tax salary over five years, a figure that put off Real Madrid, who were also in the running for his signature, with Cristiano Ronaldo the only Los Blancos star to earn more than that amount.

The Frenchman made just seven appearances for United during his initial stint with the club, and failed to complete 90 minutes in the Premier League under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson.

But while there was some bitterness on both sides at his departure for Italy, Pogba has made the decision to rejoin the club as they look to vastly improve on the fifth-placed finish secured under Louis van Gaal in 2015-16.

The transfer represents the latest arrival under Mourinho, with United having embarked on a major recruitment drive this summer having already acquired the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly

I have no relationship with Niger Delta Avengers – Kuku speaks from hospital bed

A former Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Chairman, Presidential Amnesty Programme, Kingsley Kuku, has denied sponsoring the militant group, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA).

Kuku, in a statement issued in Alabama, United States of America, where he is currently undergoing treatment after a knee surgery, said he was not a sponsor of the militant group as claimed by a face less Reformed Niger Delta Avengers.

According to him, “This is yet another attempt to discredit my hard-earned reputation and defame my person after the earlier plot to rope me with terrorism by another fictitious Kano-based group, National Security Watchdog. If that attempt failed, this too has surely fallen flat.

“Since the 90s, I have dedicated a greater part of my life to the service of our dear country. I have been privileged to serve Nigeria and my people in different capacities and have discharged my duties and responsibilities with utmost patriotism and the fear of God.

“The jury is still out on my last national assignment as Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Chairman, Presidential Amnesty Programme. But what cannot be disputed is the fact of an indelible mark my team and I achieved in ensuring and stabilizing the peace and security of the Niger Delta for four solid years despite the very grave challenges we faced.

“Even now I am willing to join any sincere effort to restore and strengthen the peace of the region irrespective of party affiliation in the interest of my people and the nation.

“It is therefore the height of perfidy to point accusing fingers at a man like me that has committed so much to guarantee peace and security in the region to now sponsor acts that are antithetical to my cherished principles. Without mincing words, I am pained by the seeming reversal of the gains recorded while discharging our mandate. But no matter the systemic attempts to blur our achievements, there shall be light at the end of the dark tunnel.

“In Nigeria of today where you are guilty until proven innocent, which is the title of my upcoming book, some of the fruits of our effort have started manifesting with the graduation of three of our delegates with First Class degrees and some others with Second Class Upper degrees in the United Kingdom alone just as thousand others have equally performed excellently well in other parts of the world and in Nigeria.

“These are youths that were privileged to be enrolled in higher institutions abroad and in Nigeria under the Special Scholarship Scheme initiated by my team and I under former President Goodluck Jonathan. We invested so much in academics and capacity development of youths from the region and our achievements continue to speak for us.

“As I recuperate from my surgery, I have advised my lawyers to take steps to defend my integrity against negative media reports.

“I remain an unrepentant advocate of the indissolubility of the Nigerian nation as well as the peace and development of the Niger Delta.”
