“The Government We Are Experiencing Is Not Yet A Buharinised Government”- Mbaka

Enugu Catholic priest, who predicted the outcome of the 2015 presidential election, Rev’d. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has observed that Nigerians were yet to experience the real change being midwifed by President Muhammadu Buhari because some strategic positions were still occupied by the same people who milked the country dry in the past.

Stressing that the president was not totally free from the grip of those who ran the country aground in the past, he averred that “The government we are experiencing is not yet a Buharinised government.”

Mbaka stated this to newsmen in Enugu during the graduation of Niger Delta youths, who trained at Innoson Plastic Factory under Federal Government’s Amnesty Programme, explaining that Buhari currently works with some people who do not want him to succeed in office and are desperate to pull him down.

Stating that he was yet to see the change he wants in Nigeria through the present government, he, however acknowledged that it was too early to give Buhari’s regime a dispassionate assessment, adding that Nigerians should give the President more time.

“Many people who are in different strategic positions are still the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) people and Buhari may not even know and even some people who are working around him are working to pull him down.

“Buhari means well, Buhari is a good man, Buhari is God-sent for this country but, I am telling you that there are crocodiles in the fish pond.

“Buhari may not know that he is feeding not the fish in the fishpond but crocodiles that are even feeding on the fishes!”

He also urged Nigerians to be prayerful. He said; “Nigerians should go on their knees and pray for divine intervention because apart from God, we are going to see horrible things.

“The way these people are ganging up, they want to break Nigeria and take over power and take us back to where we were coming from. I pray it shall be well with Nigeria and it shall be well with Nigerians.”

I Will Not Serve In Buhari's Government, Even If Called Upon - Okonjo-Iweala

Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has said she would not serve in the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, even if invited. Okonjo-Iweala said this yesterday during a programme on Al Jazeera, The Stream.

She said this was because Nigeria boasts of competent people. She said it was better to allow those managing the economy now to do the best they could, noting that there could be solutions to the present economic decline in the country.

“I have spent my time contributing to the country. “It will be better to live those managing the economy to do what they know how to do. There can be solutions. I am not a typical politician. “I went in as a technocrat. I think on the continent we have seen a period when the economy was doing well. In the last two years we have been experiencing challenges. We need to focus on the basics, which are macro-economics, she said. Do continue...

“You must get the fundamentals like having a stable exchange rate and having inflation under control.

“I served my country for seven years and it was a great honour.

“The second time was very tough but it is still an honour. “I am not the only person who is a repository of knowledge. “There are other people who can equally try their hands in running the economy.

“I will advice young people not to wait for employment. “They should create jobs to employ six people or more.

“During my time in government, we had a programme called ‘You Win’ designed to support young entrepreneurs.

“The whole idea was to have a business plan competition. “The idea was that they should create jobs.“And each created nine to 10 jobs.

“The World Bank did an evaluation of it and found it good.

“I do believe that the government should come in. “We started a peer to peer mentoring.

“Now, one of the things I want to say is that creating employment is not only about struggles, it is about managing success.”

Edo 2016: APGA Candidate Wants Election Shifted Again Because Of Students Writing GCE

Osaro Onaiwu, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the governorship election in Edo rescheduled to Sept. 28, has called for further shift of the exercise to Oct. 1.

It will be recalled that INEC on Thursday announced the postponement of the election fixed for Saturday to Sept. 28, following insecurity alert by security agencies.

Mr. Onaiwu told journalists in Benin yesterday that a further shift in the date of poll was necessary as Sept. 28 was the day students sitting for the ongoing General Certificate of Education (GCE) across the country would write Physics.

He said Oct.1 was the “earliest possible date” for the election. Mr. Onaiwu said the shift would afford eligible voters among the students to participate in the election. According to him, education is number one pillar in APGA’s manifesto, and the authorities must be wary of threats from some of the students that they would sue INEC if they were‎ prevented from voting in the election.

Members of the House of Representatives on Monday advised security agencies to conclude investigations before smearing the image of Nigerians in the media.

Two members of the House who spoke to Vanguard against the background that the sum of $31.4m was found in a bank account belonging to former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, advised government security agencies to carry out a proper investigation before crucifying her.

Minority Leader of the House, Leo Ogor in his reaction described the allegation as a mere rumour until there are concrete evidence to convince Nigerians.

He said “I will liken this situation to that of budget padding that had no substance in all ramifications. We should allow the security agencies conclude all their findings before crucifying Nigerians in the press”.

“Although I’ve not seen any of the documents that is being paraded but for now we should allow those working on it conclude their investigations first”.

Speaking in the same vein, Rep Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, PDP, Edo said “it’s still a rumour though I’ve not seen the details but as you know she is still innocent until proven otherwise in our law courts.”

Those Herdsmen Carrying Guns are Not Nigerians But Foreign Terrorists- Sultan of Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, says the so called Fulani herdsmen moving with guns, causing violence, fighting with farmers are not Nigerians, but foreign terrorists.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abubakar said this in his Eid el-Kabir message to the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria.

According to him, these are foreigners coming into Nigeria to cause a breach of the peace.

“They are therefore terrorists and should be treated as such by the Nigerian security agencies. The Nigerian herdsmen are very peace-loving and law abiding,” he said.

The Sultan, who noted with concern that some ‘‘bad eggs” had infiltrated the Fulani herdsmen, challenged the security agencies to be proactive.

Mr. Abubakar, however, acknowledged that there were problems between the Fulani herdsmen and the farmers, which should only be resolved through dialogue.

He stressed the need for all Nigerians to live peacefully with each other, irrespective of any religious or ethnic differences.

Mr. Abubakar said Nigeria would continue to lag behind if there is no peace and unity.

“Our diversity should be our strength and God has not made a mistake by creating us with diverse differences,” he said.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has rejected a three-bedroom provided for him in Abuja by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), saying it is “too big”.

The 63-year-old Rohr, who is married to an African, has inspected the three-bedroom property in Jabi, but has now told officials he could do with a much smaller apartment.

An official accommodation is part of the benefits captured in the two-year contract the Franco-German has signed to qualify Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup.

Already, the NFF have moved fast to also provide an official car for the former Gabon and Burkina Faso coach.

The official car first purchased to be used by Sunday Oliseh is now being fixed after it was used by Olympic team handler Samson Siasia beyond his time in temporary charge of the Eagles for the AFCON 2017 qualifiers against Egypt in March.

Rohr is on a $47,000 a month and this salary is being bankrolled by a mystery sponsor.

Massacre Sallah: Five killed in Lagos- Ibadan Expressway crash

No fewer than five people have lost their lives, while 15 others were injured after two vehicles had a head-on collision at the Ogunmakin end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the accident, which happened around 4pm, involved a Mazda bus, with number plate, KSF 477 XK, and a Mitsubishi space wagon car, with number plate, MUS 639 DK.
It was learnt that the commercial bus was heading for Ibadan, Oyo State, while the car, which had two occupants, was heading towards Lagos State.
The bus driver, who was at top speed, crashed into the car while attempting to overtake at an intersection where construction works were being done on the road.
The five victims comprised the drivers of the two vehicles, and three passengers in the bus, including a child.
While the remains of the victims were deposited at the SOS Mortuary, Ipara, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps took the injured to Ife-Oluwa Hospital and Ibadan Centre Hospital.
The accident was said to have caused gridlock on the expressway, which was later cleared by the traffic officers and some policemen attached to the Ogun State Police Command.
The FRSC Commander, Ogunmakin Unit, David Ogunjana, confirmed that the accident was caused by speeding, adding that the driver of the Mazda bus had been warned by other motorists, but he refused to heed the warning.
He said, “The commercial bus was taking some Muslims to Ibadan; it was a loaded bus. The Mitsubishi car was coming to Lagos and there were two people in it. Because of the public holiday, the traffic was light.
“The bus driver was attempting to overtake the car at a section of the expressway where construction is ongoing. He, however, miscalculated and ram into it. The bus driver and that of the private car died on the spot. Two passengers sitting beside the commercial bus driver also died. A woman, sitting at the back of the driver, was also killed.
“While we were clearing the wreckage, some motorists, who met us at the scene, said they had warned the bus driver to reduce his speed, but he refused to listen to them. They said he made abusive gestures at them and continued speeding till he killed himself and other people.
“The accident was avoidable because the road was free and there was no reason for him to speed. Some of the passengers said they were going to their hometown to celebrate the Sallah with their family members.”
The Sector Commander, FRSC, Ogun State, Mr. Adegoke Adetunji, said the vehicles had been towed away from the scene.
He said, “The accident happened at about 3.45pm. A total of 20 people were involved. Among them, five died and 15 sustained injuries. Among the dead were three male adults, one woman and a child. The injured were taken to Ife-Oluwa Hospital and Ibadan Centre Hospital and the vehicles towed away to restore traffic flow. Drivers are advised to be patient and avoid wrongful overtaking as they drive through the construction area.

Herbalists strip woman, kill husband, friend in Lagos

Two herbalists identified as Quadri and Adma have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stabbing to death two friends, Wasiu Balogun and Wale Aderinto.

According to Punch, the incident happened last Tuesday after a teenage girl, Kabirat, a sister to the herbalists, came to Wasiu’s house and his wife Mutiat scolded her for refusing to greet the people in her home. An altercation ensued and Kabirat left in anger only for her brothers, the herbalists, to storm Wasiu’s apartment, strip his wife Mutiat naked and beat her up.
Newsmen gathered that when neighbours tried to intervene, the men threatened to hurt them with charms. Wasiu and his friend returned from their workplaces in Ebute-Meta in Lagos to meet to the abused woman. The two men confronted the herbalists brothers, leading to them being stabbed to death.
The police was then alerted by the neighbours.
Speaking with newsmen, here’s what Mutiat said:
“There was no fight on that Tuesday. The girl came to our house and ignored everybody. People in the house scolded her for it.
“When the girl left, her brothers came some minutes later. They are herbalists. Their father is also a native doctor. They came with charms and knives. They beat me up. They stripped me. Neighbours tried to restrain them, but they threatened them.
“When my husband and his friend came back from work, he was angry and he went to their house. They attacked him and his friend with knives. They were both stabbed to death.”
A neighbour, Olumide, added this:
“The suspects’ family worships Osanyin. They were involved in a similar violence sometime last year, but they were pardoned. The man and his friend had gone to talk to them for manhandling his wife.
“The herbalists first attacked the friend, and when Wasiu held them, they stabbed him too. It was one of us who reported the matter at the police station. Wasiu had five children from his first wife, but I don’t know how many children Mutiat has for him.”
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the herbalists have been arrested and the case was under invesitgation by the police.
