Another Lieutenant Colonel Ambushed & Killed By Boko Haram

Another senior Nigerian soldier was today (Tuesday) killed by the Boko Haram, army sources said.

B.U. Umar, a lieutenant colonel and commanding officer of 114 TF battalion of the Nigerian Army was ambushed by 9:30 am Tuesday alongside his troops between Bita and Piridang.

A source said: “His vehicle stepped on an improvised explosive device, but he was not hurt. He came out to assess the damage on the vehicle and Boko Haram opened fire and killed him in the process.”

Eight other soldiers were injured and evacuated to Michika, Adamawa State, for treatment.

The soldiers were said to be on their way to Yola in Adamawa State from Bita in Borno State when the incident occurred, sources told PT.

The full casualty from the attack is not yet clear.

Lt. Col. Umar, who recently took over the command of the 114 battalion about three weeks ago, was a member of the 48 Regular Course in the Nigeria Defence Academy, NDA.

When contacted, the Army spokesperson, Sani Usman, said he was unaware of Mr. Umar’s death. He said he would seek further confirmation from appropriate authorities.

The killing of Umar occurs about a week after another Lieutenant Colonel, Muhammed Abu-Ali, and some soldiers fighting with him were killed in a deadly ambush by Boko Haram.

Fourteen Boko Haram insurgents were also killed in the heavy exchange of gunfire.

You should tear his green card quickly, Africa is beautiful to live – Femi Kuti tells Wole Soyinka

Femi Kuti , son of Afrobeat Legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has reacted to the statement made by Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka about tearing his green card over Donald trumps victory.

Recall that Soyinka was reported to have declared that he will tear his American green card and head back to his country if the Republican candidate won the election, and later shifted the date of performing his vow on the day the President-elect would be sworn in.

Following reactions by social media commentators on when the pen icon would tear the green card, Soyinka asked everyone to mind their business as he would be the one to tear his card at his own time and not a time fixed by critics.

When asked for his opinion concerning Soyinka’s ‘Green Card tearing ceremony’ in an interview with TheNetNg, Femi Kuti said: “He should quickly tear it.

“My question is why does he have a green card in the first place?

“Africa is so beautiful, look at our landscape; there is so much to see in Africa.”

The music legend added that he wondered why most Nigerians took the American elections so personal, as he felt the outcome doesn’t really affect him or any average Nigerian.

See 33 States That Can't Pay Salaries In Nigeria

BudgIT, a data-simplifying civic organisation has said 33, out of the 36 states of the Federation, are unable to fulfill recurrent obligations.

Before President Muhammad Buhari’s administration officially declared Nigeria in a recession, few months ago, 17 states were reportedly able to meet up with recurrent needs, but, according to BudgIT’s report, only three states can now meet recurrent obligations in Nigeria.

A report released by the organisation titled ‘State of States’ showed that only Lagos, Rivers and Enugu are the states that can fulfill obligations to its workers. The rest are in trouble.

Akwa Ibom reportedly placed last on the table of ability to meet monthly recurrent expenditure commitments followed by Bayelsa, Oyo and Osun, said BudgIT.

Other weak states, according to BudgIT are Ogun, Plateau, Delta, Kwara, Adamawa, Abia, Benue, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano, Cross River, Kogi, Imo, Ondo, Nassarawa, Yobe, Kaduna, Ekiti, Sokoto Borno and Taraba.

Zamfara, Gombe, Anambra, Niger, Katsina, Ebonyi, Edo and Kebbi were classified as states with fair shortfalls. The report focused on how much revenue is received and generated by the states, the total debt stock and the total recurrent expenditure of the states.

Lagos, Akwa Ibom and Rivers are the states with the highest budget for 2016 while Delta, Lagos and Akwa Ibom are the states with the highest domestic debts.

The table of the external debt profile showed Lagos, Kaduna and Edo at the top of the table with Yobe, Borno and Taraba occupying the bottom spots on the table.

At the second National Executive Committee (NEC), meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in Abuja on Thursday, March 24, 2016, President Muhammad Buhari dropped the bombshell that 27, out of 36 states, are unable to pay workers’ salaries.

On October 18, 2016, the president reiterated inability of the states to pay salaries, despite collecting bailout funds from Abuja.

At a meeting with the International Committee of the Red Cross President, Mr. Peter Maurer, the president said “about 27 of our 36 states couldn’t pay salaries when we came last year and we are still struggling with that. But, we will get out of it.”

Whatsapp extends Blackberry shutdown

                       Image result for Whatsapp

WhatsApp earlier this year announced they would no longer be supporting BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 handsets by the end of 2016 but it seems they have changed their mind.

According to an update in the FAQ section of the WhatsApp App it has now been extended to June 30, 2017.

The update reads thus:

As announced in our blog, we will soon be ending support for certain devices. On June 30, 2017, we will no longer support the following platforms:
  • BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
  • Nokia S40 Nokia Symbian S60.
The following platforms will no longer be supported at the beginning of 2017:
  • Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
  • Windows Phone 7
  • iPhone 3GS/iOS 6
These platforms don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android running OS 2.3+, a Windows Phone 8+, or an iPhone running iOS 7+ before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp

Kaspersky Accuses Microsoft Of Anti-Competitive Practices

                              Image result for Eugene Kaspersky

Eugene Kaspersky, the co-founder and CEO of Russian security software company Kaspersky Lab, has accused software giant Microsoft of anti-competitive practices and endangering computer security with its attitudes to anti-virus software.

In a blog post entitled That’s It. I’ve Had Enough! Kaspersky likened the fight to that between David and Goliath, but with the Microsoft Goliath „squeezing independent developers out of specialist areas – and announced plans to push for an investigation into the company’s business practices.

Kaspersky isn’t exactly the first software entrepreneur to accuse Microsoft of unfair competition. The EU only recently finally lifted a sanction that forced Microsoft to offer a choice of browsers to end the dominance of its own Internet Explorer. Or the invention of Windows Live Essentials as a way to offer the firm’s bundleware as a separate suite of programs instead.

Users of Windows 10 have been complaining that the system is changing settings, uninstalling user-installed apps and replacing them with standard Microsoft ones. A similar thing’s been happening with security products, wrote Kaspersky.

He accused Microsoft of giving third parties as little notice as possible (one week) to start preparing for changes to Windows 10, and then blocking any incompatibilities in favour of its own Windows Defender, which has gone from being a backstop, to being the de facto and, if Microsoft is to be believed, only security tool Windows 10 users need.

Kaspersky went on to talk about alarming pop-ups that are created if Windows 10 detects Windows Defender is off, even saying that a third-party solution is unnecessary and actively shouldn’t be on. A second antivirus solution is allowed, but only if it’s Windows Defender.

He also accused Microsoft of not offering sufficient ability for third parties to warn customers if their coverage has expired, instead opting to turn on Defender.

Kaspersky pointed out that Windows Defender hasn’t tested well compared with other antivirus packages, and is considered “below average” in terms of effectiveness and features.

The trend is clear. Microsoft is gradually squeezing independent developers out of the Windows ecosystem if it has its own application for this or that purpose,“ he said.

In doing so, Microsoft is acting against the interests of users since a lot of its products are of inferior quality. Browsers, gaming hubs, image viewing, processing of multimedia files and PDF documents, cyber security and many others are already suffering from this and, as a consequence, so are users.

And it looks like this is only the beginning. What’ll be next in the firing line? Virtual machines? Cloud services?

An embedded video from an internal Microsoft training film appears to back up Kaspersky’s claims. It shows a Redmond adviser stating: I want you to think about kicking out the third-party antivirus because we’ve got a great solution right now and it’s going to be even better in the months to come.

Kaspersky believes that, despite repeatedly failing to create a workable antivirus product (remember Windows Security Essentials? OneCare?) investors are pressuring the company to get the numbers up, hence all the Windows 10 pop-ups.

We think that Microsoft has been using its dominating position in the market of operating systems to create competitive advantages for its own products, he said.

The company is foisting its Defender on the user, which isn’t beneficial from the point of view of protection of a computer against cyber attacks. The company is also creating obstacles for companies to access the market and infringes on the interests of independent developers of security products.

Therefore, we’ve taken the decision to address official bodies in various countries (including the EU and Russia ) with a request to oblige Microsoft to cease its violation of anti-competition legislation and to remove the consequences of that violation.

Two Men Rape Pawpaw Seller In Ogun

Men of Ogun State Police Command have arrested two men, Ezekiel Yusuf, 29, and Musa Abubakar, 25, for raping a 23-year-old girl (names withheld), who hawks pawpaw.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, said the victim was hawking sliced pawpaw fruit along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, when Yusuf Ezekiel lured her into his apartment on the pretence that they wanted to buy pawpaw from her.

According to the PPRO, “it was while she was shouting that the people around came to her rescue and subsequently reported to the police.

The DPO of Ojodu Abiodun, SP Bamidele Job, quickly dispatched detectives to the scene and two suspects were promptly arrested.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the case be transferred to Anti-human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, CIID, for further investigation and prosecution.”

Man jams 7-inch chopstick into his penis to check if it's working

A stomach-churning hospital report has revealed how one desperate man was forced to turn to doctors after jamming a chopstick in his penis.
The Chinese man had been too shy to see his doctor after finding blood in his urine, so decided to use a seven-inch chopstick to work out what was causing his condition.

The man, who has been identified only as Chen, lodged the stainless-steel utensil inside his penis whilst investigating the cause of his problem, which began after fell into the edge of a table.

Chen, who lives in East China’s Zhejiang Province, said he thought his urethra was “broken”, so he inserted the tip of the chopstick into his penis to “check.”

But after ramming the chopstick further into his member, it became stuck, and Chen couldn’t manage to get it out again.

A stomach-churning scan shows the chopstick protruding from the man’s body, before Chen went under the knife to have it surgically removed

The operation was a success but Doctor Ruan Zhixian, who performed the operation, said the chopstick had reached the man’s rectal wall, meaning it would have killed him if pushed in any further.

Chinese employees forced to eat live worms after failing to reach their sales targets (Photos)

Employees from a Chinese sales company, including a pregnant woman were forced to eat live worms after they failed to reach their sales targets, according to Chinese media.
Pictures emerged showing these sales workers having to drink Chinese rice wine which contained squirming mealworms in front of their colleagues.

According to the report, 50 to 60 employees, all wearing yellow uniforms, gathered at a public square in Hanzhong to witness the punishment.

A man, thought to be a supervisor, carried two plastic bags in his hands.

He announced the names of the employees who had failed to bring in enough clients for the companies the day before.

In one of the plastic bags held by the man, there were a large number of live mealworms.

In the other, there were chopsticks, glasses and two bottles of Baijiu, a hard liquor which is around 40 to 60 percent alcohol.

The man poured the Baijiu into glasses. He then used chopsticks to put mealworms into the glasses of wine.

Employees who had missed their sales targets were ordered to drink the mixture in front of their work colleagues.
One employee told the reporter from Huashang Daily: 'Today we are punished to eat mealworms.
'For every client we missed, he has to eat four worms.'.

Provide Us Prados Or You Forget Your Re-Election, Lawmakers To Obiano

                        Image result for home alone

It has been gathered that some members of the Anambra State House of Assembly have given the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, a condition to support his re-election next year, demanding that the governor must give Prado jeeps to the lawmakers to get their support.
                        Image result for prado jeep

The Speaker of the Assembly, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu, however, told our correspondent on the telephone that the Assembly’s support for the governor was unconditional.

She said, “Those expecting that the executive and the legislature in Anambra will be at war will be disappointed. We will continue to work in synergy with the executive and deliver Governor Obiano for a second tenure.

“The harmonious relationship between the executive and the other arms of government will make for steady progress in Anambra State while still maintaining the principles of checks and balances.”

Spearheading the demand for Prado Jeeps, the Minority Leader in the House, Mr. Onyebuchi Offor, had at a forum accused the governor of neglecting the legislature.

He described the condition of service at the House as deplorable.

He alleged that the governor pocketed about N1.2bn as security votes, monthly, describing it as unjust and unconscionable.

Offor, representing Ekwusigo constituency, had gone to some radio stations in the state to crusade against the governor in that respect.

Some lawmakers who spoke to a Punch correspondent on condition of anonymity said they were neglected by the governor.

One of them said, “We can’t continue this way. This is a man (governor) who does not listen to advice and he has continued to fail to recognise the lawmakers in terms of bettering their condition of service.

“Our colleagues in other states move in jeeps but what we use here is Escape car which is ridiculous. What is the governor doing with N1.2bn every month as security vote; we are not going to allow him to continue like that.

“He has to provide us with Prado Jeeps and improve our condition of service, otherwise we will wait for him during the election,” the lawmaker stated.

In his reaction, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Tony Nnacheta, said he was not ready to join issues with the legislators on a matter that was speculative and baseless.

“We are not merchants that if you say you need Prado Jeep, we give you. Are they saying we should give them Prado Jeeps because our economy has improved or what?

“Are they saying that we should abandon our responsibility of paying workers and pensioners and buy jeeps for them?

On the governor’s security, Nnacheta said he would not want to discuss such issues on pages of newspapers.

He said “Security is a sensitive issue you don’t discuss anyhow. But one issue that is clear is that security in the state has changed for good.”

Catholic Woman Leader Abducted... Kidnappers Demand N100m Ransom

A Director in Cross River State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Bibiana Elemi-Edu, was Friday kidnapped by gunmen on Target Street in Calabar.

Elemi-Edu, who is the President of Catholic Women Organisation of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Calabar, was kidnapped at about 7pm on Friday when she went to visit the reverend sister in charge of Good Samaritan Home.

She was waiting for the gate of the home to be opened when the men swooped on her and dragged her out of her Sports Utility Vehicle into a waiting black Volkswagens Golf.

An electronic accessory hawker, Mercy Okon, who witnessed the incident, said there was delay in opening the gate and suddenly some gunmen swooped on Elemi-Edu.

She said, “She was waiting in her car when the kidnappers struck. They forced her out of her SUV into their golf.”

A revered sister in the home, who pleaded not to be identified, said when she opened the gate, she found a vehicle without any occupant. She said some hawkers told her that kidnappers had abducted Elemi-Edu and dragged her into their car.

“Boys selling items in the area saw when she was being abducted and tried to stop the kidnappers, but they brought out guns and threatened to shoot them,” she said.

Meanwhile, a close family source said that the kidnappers had demanded N100m from the family.

The source, who noted that the negotiation had been reduced to N20m, added that the family insisted that they did not have any money.

“The kidnappers initially demanded N100m ransom, but I learnt that it was later reduced to N20m. Unfortunately, I do not know how the family can raise that kind of money,” he said.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, said rescue operation was ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victim.

“I have dispatched a team to ensure her safe release,” he said

The EFCC, on Monday, November 14, 2016 continued the examination of its first prosecution witness, PW1, Alade Oluseye Sunday, on a case of alleged fraud against Abiodun Agbele, an aide to the governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja.

Sunday, a manager and Branch Head of the Zenith Bank Plc., Akure, whose evidence started on Thursday, October 27, 2016, maintained that the sum of N1,219,490,000 (one billion, two hundred and nineteen million, four hundred and ninety thousand naira) that was conveyed via two aircrafts were handed over to him by the first defendant (Agbele).

“The money was mostly in N1000 notes while the rest were in N500 bills. Agbele gave us the instruction to transfer the monies to different accounts. Some were paid into De Privateer Limited, some into Spotless investment limited while some where paid into Ayodele Fayose’s account”, Sunday maintained.
The witness, while reading from exhibit AA1B stated that, N100million was credited to Spotless Investments; N219.490million was credited to De Privateer Limited; another N300million was credited to De Privateer Limited; another N200million was credited to De Privateer Limited; N200million was also credited to De Privateer Ltd; N137million was credited to Ayodele Fayose’s account and the balance N263 million was taken by Abiodun Agbele to Ado Ekiti.
“I saw Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, come down from the aircraft to speak with Agbele”, he said.
Under cross-examination by Agbele’s counsel, Mike Ozekome, Sunday maintained that he had never met the first defendant and had never discussed any money matters with him prior to June 2014.“I got worried when I saw the huge amount of money conveyed by the aircrafts that day. It took us ten working days to count the money and each day, the uncounted sum is stored in the strong room as ‘boxed’ cash”, said Sunday.
Asked whether he reported the transaction as suspicious to any authority, the witness said he did not because it was not his job to do so.
The case has been adjourned to November 17, 2016 for further hearing.
Agbele is facing an 11-count charge for allegedly diverting N4.6billion from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

I started My Church With Just N250′ – Prophet Joshua Iginla

                              image
An Abuja-based Christian cleric and Founder of Champions Royal Assembly, Kubwa, Abuja, Bro Joshua Iginla has revealed how he planted his fast growing church 10 years ago.
Iginla, who had prophesied Benue State Governor, Dr Samuel Ortom’s emergence and others, hinted that he began the church with a paltry sum of N250.
In May 2016, Iginla gave out 32 cars to selected Nollywood actors and cash gifts among others to the less-privileged.
                        image
“It doesn’t matter to me if I trek home as I have given even the car that I personally drive. I can only drive one car and live in one house at a time. This understanding is what has taught me that when I die, others will inherit my assets. The beauty of life is not in its duration but in its donation.
“I have not seen some of the beneficiaries before in my life or spoken to them. I’m seeing many of them for the first time today. I am seeing Jide Kosoko for the first time,” Iginla said. The Clergyman spoke on Sunday at the grand finale of his church’s 10 years anniversary which was well attended by dignitaries including Benue Governor. The 10th anniversary was Themed: “Grass To Grace.”
                          image
“I started my church 10 years ago with N250. I actually started in an abandoned and uncompleted building. The building was abandoned by the owner for the fear of armed robbers who had terrorized him.
“We held the first service by clapping our hands in the building. After the service, some women around that area mocked me. They did not know me, but I knew I was not a failure,” Iginla said. Iginla, popularly called ‘papa,’ ‘Ororo’ or ‘Oracle’ by the church members, however, said he was able to transform from what he called chronic-poverty because he was able to break satanic rules. Speaking on a message titled “Breaking Satanic Rules,” Iginla it takes militancy mentality, prayers and faith to break satanic rules.
                         image
In his address, Ortom who unveiled 13 newly published books by Iginla, noted that the church and the cleric had been a blessings to his life. Going down memory lane, Ortom said recalled that dropped out of secondary school in 1970s out of poverty, but now he had held various political offices including Ministerial, Chairmanship and at present the state governor.

Woman kills cheating millionaire husband after being taunted by his mistress

A woman who killed her cheating millionaire husband in a road rage attack was sent thousands of taunting messages by his mistress, including videos of the pair having sex, before she drove him off the road.
Frances Hall, 53, was jailed for two years in September after being convicted of killing her estranged husband Bill Hall Junior in San Antonio, Texas.

Her husband's younger lover, Bonnie Contreras, now 34, is accused of taunting Hall with the messages but insists she is 'not a bad person'.

Ms Contreras allegedly sent the wife videos of her having sex with Hall's husband and pictures of hysterectomy diagrams saying Hall was broken, disgusting and not a real woman anymore, according to Hall's attorney, Leigh Cutter.

Frances Hall
In an emotional interview from behind bars, which is set to air on Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen on Tuesday night, Hall said she still loves her slain husband.
"The times he was leading this secret life, he made sure I was his number one,' she told the program.
I love him and he is the only man I will love this way. Sometimes, I tell my kids that all that’s left of me is a shell of a woman. But I have to be there for them, they lost their father."
The couple were married for 34 years and have two adult children. His affair with Ms Contreras lasted three years.

The taunting all came to a head when Hall saw Ms Contreras driving their family Range Rover on a stretch of Texas Highway.

Burkina Faso Man slits woman’s throat on Lagos church premises

A national of Burkina Faso, Laday Wendipanga, has been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly killing one Adepeju Disu.

Wendipanga was said to have slit Disu’s throat with a knife while she was asleep on the premises of Holy Cross Cathedral on Lagos Island.
Not done, the suspect reportedly inflicted several cuts on the body of the victim and dragged her corpse to a corner on the premises, where it was discovered by a member of the church, who raised the alarm.
PUNCH Metro learnt that a vigil was ongoing in the church on Friday, November 4, when the incident happened.
It was gathered that the police from the Lion Building Police Division removed the remains and arrested the suspect.
A mechanic in the church’s vicinity, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victims were mentally ill, adding that Disu usually passed the night in the church.
He said, “Both of them are mentally ill. They were being taken care of by the church. A vigil was going on that day when the incident happened. I learnt that she (Wendipanga) went to where the woman was sleeping on the church premises and slit her throat with a knife.”
A resident of the area, who identified himself simply as Daniel, said Disu moved to the church after a building she inhabited on Lagos Island was demolished.
Another resident, who did not want her name in print, told PUNCH Metro that Disu’s remains were dumped in a dustbin on the premises.
She said, “I learnt she had a disagreement with the suspect earlier, but I don’t know what it was all about.”
When our correspondent visited the church last Friday to get its comment on the alleged murder, a security guard in the church, who gave his name as Felix Obi, told him to come back on Monday, saying the official that would speak was not around.
Our correspondent visited the church again on Monday, but Obi told him to check back on Tuesday (today).
He said, “The person that will attend to you is not around. Nobody can speak with you now. You cannot talk to anybody. You can go.”
However, Obi’s colleague, who declined to give his name, denied that the woman was murdered on the church premises, saying it was a rumour.
He said, “I was on duty; nothing like that happened. Apart from you, somebody also came here to inquire about it. I have been on duty from the beginning of this month. I am a security man. If anything happens, I will tell you.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.
She said, “The information we have is that the victim, Adepeju Disu, and the suspect, Laday Wendipanga from Burkina Faso, lived around the church. They seem to be mentally ill. Investigation will reveal more on that, especially on the side of the suspect. We need to do medical evaluation. The body was seen on thes church premises. The case has been transferred to SCIID, Yaba, for discreet investigation.”

Policeman Accused Of Belonging To Cult, Killing Colleague

The Cross River State Police Command on Monday said one of its dismissed personnel, Corporal Kingsley Iyeke, shot and killed an Inspector, Edet Archibong, during a gun duel between the police and suspected cult members in Calabar.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, stated this in Calabar while briefing journalists on the successes recorded by the command in the last one month.

He explained that after the inspector was shot dead, the police swung into action by tracing the cult members to their hideout where some of them were arrested.

The commissioner stated further that after interrogating the suspects, one of them mentioned Iyeke as a member of the group.

“The suspect said Iyeke was the one that shot the police inspector during the clash between them and the police.

“You will recall that we lost one of our inspectors last month during an exchange of fire with some cult members here in Calabar.

“A majority of the suspects have been arrested. Our interrogation shows that one of our personnel, Corporal Kingsley Iyeke, was one of the cultists.

“After interrogating one of the arrested cultists, he confessed that Iyeke was a member and that he was the one that shot the police inspector dead.

“During our orderly-room trial, we found out that truly he was a member of the cult. We have dismissed him and he will face the full wrath of the law accordingly,” the CP said.

Thirty-five-year-old Iyeke, who is a native of River State, denied being a member of any cult, saying that t accusation was a frame-up.

The command also paraded 10 suspected criminals who were arrested by the police for involvement in various crimes in the state.
