Woman Inserts Stick Of Broom Dipped In Pepper Into Private Part Of 9-Year-Old Nephew

The police have arrested a woman, identified only as Bassey, for allegedly inserting a stick of broom dipped in pepper into the private parts of a nine-year-old boy, identified as Promise, in the Ebute-Meta area of Lagos State.

It was learnt that Bassey had accused the victim, who was her nephew, of stealing N2,000. Forcing him to confess to the crime, the mother of four allegedly resorted to the extreme measure.

Neighbours, who had reportedly observed the continuous abuse of Promise, reported the case to the police at the Iponri division.

Promise was said to have been taken to a hospital, where the stick of broom was removed.

Punch correspondent gathered that officials of the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender had taken the victim to a government shelter.

A neighbour, who did not want to be identified, said Promise had been living with Bassey on Ashaka Street for the past five years, adding that his parents were late.

He said, “Promise is the son of Bassey’s elder sister. His mother brought him to live with her so she could assist him with his education.

“The boy was formerly in a private public school, but he was withdrawn immediately his mother died. His father is also late. Since that time, she turned him into an errand boy.

“I have known the boy for three years now and can categorically say that he is always being maltreated.

“There was a time the guardian beat him up and tortured him with a needle.  She starved  the boy for three days.

“On another occasion, she sent the boy out of the house in the night and left him outside till daybreak.”

He added that despite having four children from different men, Bassey had never maltreated her own kids.

Another tenant said matters got to a head on Wednesday, January 4, when the suspect allegedly inserted a stick of broom which had been dipped in pepper into Promise’s penis for allegedly stealing N2,000.

He said, “She said she was looking for N2,000 and accused the boy of stealing it. She beat him up with a stick and used red pepper to rub his whole body.  The boy was screaming, yet she did not stop.

“After that, she inserted a stick of broom, dipped in Cameroon pepper, into the boy’s private parts.

“We could not bear it again and we reported the abuse to the police at the Iponri division. She was arrested and is still in police custody.”

The tenant said some relatives of the suspect had been threatening to deal with them for reporting the case to the police.

The Director of the OPD, Mrs. Salami Olubukola, confirmed that Promise had been taken into custody.

She said, “It is absolutely shocking how adults mete out extreme punishment to kids for minor offences. How can one justify inserting a stick of broom into the private parts of a boy? What if the broom had broken inside the boy’s private parts? He would have been damaged for life.

“No matter the offence, adults must learn to control their temper when dealing with children.  I hope she can reflect on her wicked actions and change while in detention.”

Olubukola said the agency would intensify campaign to reduce child abuse in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect had been remanded in prison.

“I confirm the case. The suspect has been charged to court and remanded in custody,” she said.

A 19 year old teenager due to study medicine collapsed and died in Pretoria while her friends looked on and cheered thinking she was doing the viral #DeadPose challenge, Live Monitor reports.
Tshidi Ngwenya, who had earlier posted a series of pictures performing the challenge, had decided to step it up a notch and perform a daring pose while her friends cheered and took pictures. The maneuver did not go as planned at she fell to the ground and collapsed. Her friends did not pick up that she was in distress and continued to cheer and take pictures.

After a few minutes of cheering and taking pictures, the friends realised their dead poser was not moving and checked on her and noticed she had choked after swallowing her tongue.

Friends tried desperately to revive her as they waited for paramedics to arrive. Upon arrival of an ambulance, she was pronounced dead.

The girl’s parents said she had a history of seizures and might have suffered one while performing the #deadpose.

An Ambulance spokesman said: “Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the ambulance crew, nothing could be done to save her. If her friends had noticed early, she would be alive now

Chauffeur Who Drove Kim's Family Around Paris Is Among 17 People Arrested Over £8.5m Robbery

Kim Kardashian's chauffeur was among the 17 arrested in connection with her armed robbery in Paris, it has emerged.

The heist, worth around £8.5 million, was France's biggest jewellery theft involving a private citizen in more than two decades.

The development strengthens theories the robbery was an inside job and that the gang knew exactly where their target would be at any time.

The 27-year-old driver worked for an upmarket firm that was used by the Kardashian family whenever they were in Paris.

Police confirmed reports he would have known all her movements.

The accused men, aged mostly in their 50s, 60s and 70s, are suspected of stealing jewels and valuables worth £8.5million from Ms Kardashian during Paris fashion week.

Pierre B - the 72-year-old alleged ringleader - was arrested after officers broke down the gate of his villa in Plascassier, a village near Grasse, in the south of France.

The age of the suspects has echoes of the 2015 Hatton Garden safe deposit robbery in London – carried out by a team of veteran British criminals.

A police source said: 'The oldest suspect is 72, while others are in their 50s and 60s. All are well known to the police.' Another later arrest involved a 23-year-old.

School Bus Kills Little Girl Inside School Premises

The death of an 18-month-old pupil of Bessie Int'l School, a private school on Wahab Larinde Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos, has thrown the deceased’s family into mourning.

The girl, Memunat Lamidi, who was said to be in the crèche section, was reportedly hit on the school premises by a Toyota Litace owned by the school.

According to Punch, the girl was with one of the gatekeepers around 1pm on Thursday when the bus was driven into the premises.

The gatekeeper was said to have seated her on a bench while he made to open the gate for the driver.

He had opened one side of the gate and wanted to open the other side for smooth entrance of the vehicle, when little Memunat got down from the bench and walked into path of the vehicle.

She was knocked down by the bus as the driver drove into the school compound.

A woman, who sells drinks opposite the school, told Punch that her mother had been relocated due to the trauma caused by the incident.

“Everybody was devastated by the incident. Normally, when a vehicle wants to enter or leave the school premises, the guards open the gate. One opens a side of the gate, while the other opens the other side. But that day, one of the gatekeepers, called Malami, was not around when the school bus blew the horn from outside.

“The girl was playing with the available gatekeeper. He put her on the bench and went to open the gate. As he was opening the other side of the gate, the girl left her seat. She walked into the path of the bus, which hit her. One of the schoolteachers told me that the mother had been taken to one of her relatives,” the woman said.

A resident, Leke Adebisi, blamed the accident on lack of concentration on the part of the driver, adding that little Memunat died shortly after she was admitted in a hospital in the area.

“I don’t think the deceased’s family is interested in taking the case up with the school legally.”

However, the Public Relations Officer, Lagos Police Command, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the accident, saying investigation had commenced.

DESOPADEC Workers Protest Non-Payment Of Bonuses

Aggrieved workers of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission went completely n3ked today to protest the alleged non-payment of their bonuses by the board of the commission.

The workers accused the state government and management of the board of the interventionist agency for oil producing communities in the state of maltreating workers through its refusal to pay workers including the controversial 13-month bonus (End of Year Bonus).

They also said the management refused to promote and pay retirement entitlements to pensioners of the commission as well as leave bonuses to workers of the commission since 2015 when the present board assumed office.

The aggrieved workers promised to continue with their protest until the state government listened to their demands and ensure that staff welfare was prioritised. They warned that if by next week their demands were not met, they would occupy government house and the State House Assembly.

A staff who spoke under a strict condition of anonymity said, “What we are protesting is statutory in our engagement later. In 2013 the commission complained that there is no money and appealed that we should allow our salaries to be slashed by 30 per cent and promised that once things improved it shall be restated but up till now it has not
