‘What Sowore posted on social media today is completely false’ – Lagos Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni

Yesterday, news got out that Sahara Reporters Publisher Omoyele Sowore was arrested after a UK-based journalist, Lekan Fatodu, petitioned the state police over a report Sowore wrote alleging that he was used to launder money by former Aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode.Both Sowore and Fatodu were subsequently taken to SCID in Panti and released afterwards. This morning however, Sowore took to Facebook to say the Lagos state police plans to arraign him in court on phony charges (Read Here).

LIB had an exclusive chat with the State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni who narrated the events leading up to the arrest and described Sowore’s claims as ‘Completely False’.

In his words, ‘That fellow, Sowore was the one that made a distress call to the police yesterday that he was being attacked by armed robbers at Isaac John, Ikeja and Police in Lagos in its usual manner responded immediately to the distress call only for the officers to get there and find out that it was a false distress call which in the first instance shouldn’t have been made by someone who should know better. We found out that there was no armed robbery going on, rather it was a case of altercation between himself and Lekan Fatodu’.

‘The officers that went there who thought it was a genuine distress call brought the two of them to my office and the preliminary enquiry that was made after I had interrogated them was that Lekan Fatodu had earlier lodged a complaint of criminal defamation of character, blackmail and extortion against Sowore which had earlier been referred to the state criminal investigation department and thereafter asked both of them to taken to the investigating office at Panti where they would make their statement with regards to the pending case against Sowore’.

‘Upon their statement being recorded yesterday, none of them especially Sowore was detained by the police, the two parties were only asked to report back today.

‘We are doing our work in a responsible manner, allegations have been made and it is the work of the police to investigate criminal complaints. That Investigation is on-going and I want to assure you that the police in Lagos will be fair and just, and we’ll make sure that professionalism is exhibited in the course of investigating that case and ensure that justice is done and I want to appeal to you that in as much as you may want to sympathize with your colleague on social media, you should also try as much as possible to be in touch with us so that we can keep you abreast of developments in that case rather than speculating and writing insinuations in reporting that incident while we expect Sowore as well to ensure that whatever he posts on social media is done responsibly’.

‘He has made some assertions in what he’s posted on social media today which are completely false and that is why we always emphasize responsible reportage and dissemination of information’.

so we are using this medium to reach out to him that while he has the opportunity to use the social media, he should not use it irresponsibly to blackmail anyone and being a member of the media does not stop him from being called in to account for any criminal act he may have committed’.

Pregnant Woman Makes Miraculous Delivery inside BRT Bus

A middle aged woman has given birth to a baby boy inside a BRT bus.

The woman was delivered of the baby around 9am on Wednesday January 11, 2017, along Mile 12/ Ketu, Lagos.

She had boarded the bus at Irawo bus stop going to the hospital believed to be at Iyana Ipaja. But the
baby could not wait much longer.

The woman became uncomfortable immediately after boarding as she was seen showing restlessness.

Women passengers on board joined hands in assisting her to cover the new born with clothe, before all other passengers were transloaded into another bus at Ketu bus stop.

The woman was then taken to the hospital.

Landlady Allegedly Stole Tenant's N290k Foodstuff In Lagos

One Bature Anumiuyu, a landlady, was on Thursday granted N100,000 bail by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing bags of foodstuff worth N297,000 from a tenant’s shop.

The Magistrate, Mr. J.A. Adegun, ordered the accused to provide a surety in like sum that must be gainfully employed.

He also ruled that the surety must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the case to January 17 for hearing.

The 33-year-old woman is facing three counts of burglary, stealing and a breach of the peace.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Babaji Ishaku, told the court that she committed the offences at Aremu Lawal Street, New Oko-Oba in Abule-Egba area of Lagos, at about 2:30p.m. on December 5, 2016.

He alleged that the landlady broke into the shop of Mr. John Omeoha, one of her tenants.

“The accused made away with 15 bags of rice, four bags of beans and three bags of garri, all valued at N297,000.

“The complainant said that he locked up his shop for some time because his wife had just given birth.


“He said that his landlady had asked him to move out of the shop that she wanted to make use of it. The complainant pleaded with her to give him more time to secure an alternative place.

“But on the said date when the complainant passed by the shop, he found out that his shop had been burgled and some goods carted away,’’ he said.

Ishaku said the case was reported to the police and after a series of investigations by the police, the landlady was arrested.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

Female Cult Leader Arrested With Her Gang Members

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a lady said to be the leader of a cult gang who is allegedly the brain behind a clash between rival groups which claimed some lives on Tuesday.

No fewer than three persons were confirmed dead, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries in two separate clashes between rival cult groups in Mowe area.

Following the clash, the state police command arrested 10 suspects including the lady said to be one of the cult leaders.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrests on Wednesday while parading the suspects before newsmen.

According to him, the groups came to Mow and unleashed mayhem on the area:

“The cult members, who are not from the community, stormed Mowe and battled themselves to a standstill before they were chased away by the police. They vandalized vehicles and made life uncomfortable for innocent residents of the area.

“Distress calls were made to the Area Commander, Sagamu, and Divisional Police Officer, Mowe.

“Consequently, policemen were swiftly deployed in the area and they repelled the assailants. In the process, 10 of the hoodlums were arrested, including a female member.

“They were arrested in various locations in the area and thus far, investigations have revealed that one of the cults held a meeting in the house of the female member.

“The Area Commander of Sagamu, Issa Gremma, who led the operation, is still on the ground in Mowe, monitoring the situation.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, for proper investigation.”

30-year-old club owner, Mike Eze-Nwalie Nwogu popularly known as ‘Pretty Mike’, has been arrested for dehumanizing young girls by turning them into human puppies with chains round their necks..
Pretty Mike was arrested on Wednesday January 12th, 2017 by the police on the orders of the Lagos state government after his photos with girls on dog chains went viral..

Police say PrettyMike cooperated with them, gave them useful statement and was released after signing an undertaking to desist from putting any woman or man on a leash to dehumanize them..

His undertaking read:

'I, Mike Eze Nwalie, do hereby undertake to stop whatever act of putting girls on a leash or any other degrading treatment to ladies and guys..
I am aware that such act offends the State of Lagos and if I repeat it again, there will be a legal act towards me..
I undertake to issue a letter of apology to the public effective tomorrow on all my social media platforms'.

Speaking on the matter, the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem said the State Government will not tolerate any anti-social behavior that attempts to dehumanize any citizen in the State. .

Kazeem restated the government’s determination to prosecute any individual or group of persons who violate any law of the State under any guise.

“The Lagos State Government is committed to the protection of the rights of all citizens including children, women and all the vulnerable persons in the State,” Kazeem said.

Woman Arrested For Attempting To Smuggle Cocaine To Prisoner

A 23-year-old self-employed woman dealing in used ladies shoes from Berekum in the Berekum Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region, Sakina Mustapha, is in the grips of the Police for attempting to smuggle a substance suspected to be cocaine to an inmate at the Sunyani Prisons.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Prisons, ASP. Johann Nii Narh Nartey, the suspect believed to be a member of a notorious drug syndicate terrorizing residents in the area, was arrested on Monday at the Sunyani Central Prison with the substance.
He explained that Sakina was apprehended at the Sunyani Prison Barracks after she paid a visit to a prisoner in custody, Taufik Mohammed, who is serving a ten (10) year jail term with hard labour for narcotic drug offences.

He added that the initial demeanour of both convict and visitor appeared normal at the initial stages of the visit, but the interaction aroused suspicion at the latter stage and so both of them were put under strict surveillance.
ASP Nartey continued that, Sakina was later seen hanging around at the barracks in anxiety after the visit, and was subsequently invited into the prison where a search was conducted on her, and Ninety nine (99) pieces of substances suspected to be cocaine wrapped in cigarette foil were found in her purse.

The Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Supt. Sampson Bandin confirmed the arrest and stated that his outfit has commenced investigation into the matter, and the suspect will be put before court soon.

"My name is bamisaye olasunkanmi Michael a.k.a Catty Mandy a Nigerian citizen and this was my encounter with the Nigerian Police.
After my regular day job, I went to the airport to receive my package which was sent to me by my brother from South Africa.
I successfully received my package and headed home.
It was late by the time I was going home,11:30pm precisely and I was waiting for a bus at the popular Naco bus-stop.
The Naco bus-stop is along the international airport road,not too far from the airport itself. 

There were people at the bus-stop waiting for a bus as well.
Just then 3 policemen arrived on a bike.
This was not suprising because there is a police station at Naco bus-stop.
On their way into their station they cited everyone waiting at the bus-stop for a bus. They questioned everyone what we were doing there and we responded that we were waiting for a bus.  

They cited my package and this prompted questions immediately.
They asked what was in the package, I responded by telling them it was my personal belongings which was sent to me by my brother from the South Africa and I just received it from the airport that night.
Immediately they shouted "it's a lie,it's money that is there".
They scared everyone around away and started assaulting me with questions.
I told them it wasn't money that I should open it for them to see but they wouldn't listen,one officer ALI MAKINTA was one of the 3policemen that lead the assault.
They hit me very hard with the back of their gun, I started bleeding and I fainted.
They took my package and my phone.  

They left me lying on the floor bleeding to death.
Few minutes later a Nigerian Army came to my rescue.
Captain Akinleye helped me to recover my phone,took me to the nearest hospital for attention where my wounds were stitched, took me home and gave me his number to call when I felt better. Thank God for him that night.

Nigerian rapper, Ikechukwu has roused a serious controversy after he recently revealed the reason for his 2012 break-up with his celebrity girlfriend and model, Sarah Ofili.

Ikechukwu has disclosed in a chat with popular podcast, Loose Talk why he isn’t friends with Terry the Rapman, alleging that the rapper was having an affair with his then fiancee, Sarah.

When asked what his problem with Terry tha Rapman was, Ikechukwu openly revealed that the Kaduna rapper was instrumental in the break-up between him and his ex-fiance.

EFCC Uncover N632.2 million in judge’s account

The EFCC has made a startling discovery about former Enugu State Chief Judge Innocent Azubuike Umezulike.

 Detectives found N632.2 million in his bank account, reinforcing the reason for his involuntary retirement.
The agency also found that the lodgements came from lawyers, businessmen, politicians and litigants.

According to The Nation newspaper, Justice Umezulike was believed to have operated the account without a Bank Verification Number (BVN).

The former Chief Judge has been invited for interrogation on January 17 on some of the “shocking” 
lodgments.

The NJC on September 29, 2016 recommended Justice Umezulike for compulsory retirement alongside Justice Mohammed Tsamiya, who was the Presiding Justice of the Ilorin Division of the Court of Appeal

Justice Kabiru Auta of Kano State High Court was recommended for dismissal.

The NJC said it recommended Umezulike to Governor Justice Lawrence Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for compulsory retirement for “delivering judgment in a case 126 days after final addresses were adopted by parties, and for other instances of abuse of office”.

The council also found Justice Umezulike guilty of allegedly “receiving a donation of N10m from a businessman, Prince Arthur Eze, during his book launch while two cases in which Eze was said to have had “vested interest”, were in the judge’s court.”

Wine Factories Producing Fake Amarula, Others, Busted By NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), arrested 9 suspects in connecting with "fake" wine and beverage manufacturing factories at Relief Market, Onitsha.

This followed a special raid and enforcement operation of Federal Government’s ban on imported fruit juices on Wednesday in Onitsha.

NAFDAC Head, Investigation and Enforcement, Kingsley Ejiofor, said those nabbed were involved in the bottling of unwholesome, counterfeit and dangerous drinks. His words:

“We came here for a special assignment to mop up all counterfeit and prohibited products which include imported fruit juices, food, drugs, medical devices, cosmetics, detergent and bottled water, among others. 

“We were able to uncover illegal manufacturers of bottle, unwholesome and dangerous chemicals, they call wine and spirits. It was so disheartening.”

Mr. Ejiofor said that popular brands of beverages like Hennessey, 501, Johnny Walker, Red Label whisky, Best Marula fruit cream, Pure heaven, Amarula, Baron De Vals, Eva and J&W, among others were being faked.

According to him, the beverages were being produced in unhygienic factories with cockroaches.

He listed items found in the factories to include;

stoves, colourants, plastic containers, cups, labels, corks, unidentified chemicals and recycled bottles.

“In one of the shops, the smell was so pungent that we could not even recover the materials and had to destroy them right there. This is why we find the incidences of cancer to be high in this country because we don’t know what we drink.

“I will like to use this medium to tell people to destroy cups, plastics or bottles after use because not doing so encourages these illegal producers,” Mr. Ejiofor said.

He further advised retailers and consumers to issue and collect receipts for every product purchased to enable tracking.

Ejiofor said the arrested suspects, five men and four ladies, would be interrogated and prosecuted. The recovered items, especially the chemicals would be taken to NAFDAC laboratory for analysis.

Mikel Obi Reveals Why He Moved To China

                   
Super Eagles captain and former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has explained his recent move to the Chinese Premier League to team up with Tianjin Teda.
He said the move was primarily done to aid Nigeria’s push to be at the 2018 World Cup in Brazil.

Mikel was frozen out of the first team picture by coach of Chelsea Antonio Conte, but the captain of the Nigeria team remained  a  regular  for the national team despite his lack of games at club level.


He decided to move to Tianjin Teda on a three year deal in order to get playing time, and despite the fact that he will be getting double his former pay in China, the 29 year old insist the move wasn’t all about money.

“I could easily have stayed in Chelsea for the remaining six months of my contract but it won’t be in the best interest of my nation, as they need me match fit when the World Cup 2018 qualifiers resume”, Mikel told Owngoalnigeria.com.  

It wasn’t an easy decision to make but I seriously need matches to stay fit for Nigeria. Nigerians don’t deserve to miss out of the World Cup after back to back failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations”.
