The Nigeria Police can’t stop 2face Nationwide Protest-Gov Fayose

Image result for Fayose and 2face
The Governor of Ekiti State and Chairman of the Governors’ Forum of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has knocked the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police for planning to stop a protest for good governance by a musician, Mr. Innocent Idibia, a.k.a. 2 Face.
Also, a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has said nothing, including the police, can stop the planned peaceful rally being organized by the musician.

The rally, which 2face planned to lead in the Lagos metropolis next Monday, is to protest against the current economic hardship being faced by the masses.

But in a statement on Thursday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said the
police would not allow the rally to hold, because it could easily be hijacked by miscreants.
“We know that 2face does not have the capacity to contain such a crowd and we will not fold our hands and watch while things go out of hand,” Owoseni said.
In esponse, Governor Fayose said that the police’s stand was a ploy to stop a legitimate civil act.

In a press statement issued by the Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media, Lere Olayinka, in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, the governor said,
“Leadership is about accountability. To be accountable, leaders must listen to public opinion either by civil and peaceful protest.
“The court of appeal’s judgment in the ANPP vs IGP allows for such protest or gathering without police permit or interference as in advanced democracies. The protest is said to be for and about good governance. So, who is afraid of the protest? Who do the police represent in this issue?
“Nigerians are hungry and angry, our currency is above N500 to a US dollar.
“Nepotism, extrajudicial killings, disobedience to court order and human right abuse must stop. The conscience is an open wound and the guilty is afraid.”
Adegboruwa, who had earlier said he would join the 2face rally, also said the police did not have any legal backing to stop the protest and urged the police CP to study his copy of the Nigerian constitution before coming out to make such a statement.

Adegboruwa said Owoseni’s statement was an attempt to intimidate Nigerians who wish to partake in the rally, adding that it could never deter “we, veterans, and indeed the deprived, oppressed and hungry people of Nigeria.”

Vowing that the rally could not be stopped, Adegboruwa urged
“the good people of Nigeria, especially those who reside in Lagos, to join us en mass at Ikeja, for the rally on February 6, 2017.
“We cannot be intimidated in our own country, by the same people who are paid to protect us.
“…So, come rain or shine, we shall hold the rally on Monday, as scheduled, because it is illegal for the police to seek to ban a lawful assembly.”

Toke Makinwa's ex-husband Maje hired lawyers to sue her

Image result for Toke and maje
Toke Makinwa's estranged husband, Maje Ayida has hired British lawyers to sue her  over her book 'On Becoming' which he says is an “exaggerated fabrication”.
He has also asked her to stop the sales of the book and all forms of promotional activities.

According to Maje, it is untrue that he gave Toke Makinwa a s*xually transmitted disease in the past or at any stage in their relationship. It is also “highly misleading” for Toke's book to allege that Maje “did not financially contribute adequately” to their marriage.

The Cable reports that Maje's lawyers have also sent Toke a “letter of demand” which says her book contains “defamatory words”.

Toke Makinwa’s controversial book - On Becoming - had detailed her account of her relationship and marriage to Maje Ayida, a fitness expert.

The law firms Maje Ayida hired both the United Kingdom and Nigeria to handle the case are:
  • Carter-Ruck, a leading defamation law firm in the UK to top figures like Simon Cowell, Elton John and Chelsea FC
  • while Kemi Pinheiro (SAN) of Pineiro LP is heading the legal front in Nigeria.

THE BONE OF CONTENTION
According to the letter of demand sent to Makinwa, her estranged husband was said to have “requested legal separation” from her “within 6 months” of their marriage in January 2014 — “when it became clear that the marriage was breaking down”.
Makinwa was alleged to have signed a legal separation agreement in July 2014.
The letter said it was well documented that Makinwa and Ayida had agreed to separate by July 2014, which the book failed to record.
“The book misleadingly describes the circumstances at the time,” the letter read.
Pinheiro LP, the Nigerian law firm, said it was untrue that Maje had given her an “STI in the past or at any stage in their relationship.”
The law firm also noted that it was “highly misleading” for the book to allege that Maje “did not financially contribute adequately” to the marriage.
“The publicity sought by you has been relentless, and limitless,” said Adebowale Kamoru in the letter of demand, on behalf of Pinheiro LP.
EFFECT OF BOOK ON MAJE’S CAREER
The law firm further noted that the publication has brought “public ridicule” on Maje, noting that his reputation has been “assaulted, injured and damaged.”
“His professional integrity as one of the leading health and wellness practitioners in Nigeria, and his professional credibility built over the years through dedicated hard work have been besmirched”, the letter said.
According to the law firm, Makinwa’s representation of Ayida in the book was “not a true reflection of who he is, his character and his background.”
DEMANDS OF AYIDA
Maje Ayida, through his lawyers, has, among other things, informed Makinwa to retrieve the already-sold books and stop all forms of distribution, TheCable Lifestyle understands.
The letter mandated Makinwa to “withdraw from circulation all copies of the book and take immediate steps to call in all copies of the book already distributed and deliver up same at the place to be agreed upon by our client for destruction.”
It further said a failure by the popular celebrity to “retract” the “published words” and tender a full page unreserved apology to Maje Ayida in three national dailies “will result in the commencement of legal action.”
Makinwa was also advised to “take immediate steps” to stop the distribution of the books on Amazon, iTunes and all forms of promotion on her social media accounts.
She was given seven days upon receipt of the letter to comply with the demands or they’d be forced to seek legal redress in court.
- In marriage, your focus should be on building a good home and a good life, not on frivolities.

Husband & Wife beat accountant to death over chicken issue

Image result for home alone

Segun and his wife, Sola, allegedly beat their neighbour, Idowu Solaja, to death over the roost at their house on Babs Lawal Street in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

The Punch learnt that Idowu, a chartered accountant, whose house backed the roost, had complained to the couple that he was being disturbed by the chickens.

However, the Ireins allegedly attacked him.

The victim was said to have been taken to a hospital by residents. Sadly, he died shortly after. His corpse was deposited in a morgue while the couple were arrested by the police.

It was learnt that the 51-year-old was responsible for the welfare of his wife and four children.

When Punch visited the community on Thursday, a crowd of residents and landlords were spotted discussing the unfortunate incident.

An in-law to the deceased, Jimoh Ayandokun, said Segun was first rearing pigs, adding that after a series of complaints by the victim, he stopped the business.

He said, “Idowu had complained several times about the smell of the pigs. It took nine months and the intervention of the landlord association before he stopped rearing the pigs.

“After that matter was resolved, there was peace in the community and in December 2016, when the suspect’s wife had a party, the deceased attended.”

The deceased elder sister, who did not want to be identified, said Idowu had taken one of his children to school on Monday when he saw some chickens being fed in the roost at Segun’s house.

She said, “He went to the house and knocked at the door repeatedly, but nobody answered him. He banged harder and the man’s wife, Sola, came out and asked him what he wanted from them again.

“Idowu insisted on speaking to her husband. The man came out and they started exchanging words.

“Because the doorstep was elevated above the ground where Idowu stood, it was easier for Segun to grab Idowu by the neck.

In the ensuing scuffle, they both fell down. The wife picked a stone and hit Idowu in different parts of the body.”

A passerby, who saw the incident, raised alarm as residents rushed to the scene to separate them. The victim, who was drenched in blood, drove himself to the Igbogbo Police Division where he reported the attack. He was reportedly issued a letter to go to a hospital for treatment.

Segun attempted to flee the community, but was held back by residents

“But he later disappeared through the back door. His wife, however, assured us that he also went to report at the Igbogbo division,” a landlord, who did not identify himself, said.

Idowu was treated and given some drugs for the injuries he sustained in the eyes.

He was reportedly called by residents, who appealed to him to drop the case against the couple. He allegedly left the hospital for the police station, where he wrote a statement to withdraw the case.

However, shortly after he got home, he allegedly slumped and died.
He was screaming, ‘I hope I am not about to die’. This was around 8pm. He then collapsed. We put him in his Toyota Corolla and drove him to a private clinic in the community, where the doctor confirmed him dead.

“We took the corpse to the police station and the couple were arrested. We suspect that he was stabbed with a poisoned sharp object during the fight,” another resident said.

His wife, Modupe Solaja, who said they had been married for over 20 years, called for justice.

Modupe said she had yet to inform their first child who was an undergraduate at the Adeleke University in Osun State.

“My husband was planning to pay her school fees of about N1.2m this weekend. I am a full time housewife. How will I cope with the school fees of four children? Don’t let me suffer for nothing,” the wife cried out.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
