Trailer loses brakes, kills 20-year-old female undergraduate

A 20-year-old undergraduate of Yaba College of Technology, Bukola Ajayi, was killed on Tuesday after the brakes of an overloaded trailer failed at the Ekoro junction, in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State, Punch reports.

The trailer driver was said to have lost control of the vehicle, which reportedly sped in the direction of a tricycle Ajayi and her brother boarded.

Ajayi was taking her brother to school around 7am when the incident happened.

She reportedly pushed him out of the tricycle and out of harm’s way. She was attempting to save herself when the trailer ran into the tricycle, killing her.

Punch learnt that the incident caused a traffic jam in the area as sympathisers placed the corpse by the roadside.

A witness, who did not want to be identified, said the trailer had first crushed a Tata bus before running into the tricycle.

He said, “The problem we have here is that the road slopes from Abule Egba to Ekoro Road. Around 7.15am, the trailer was coming from Abule Egba; it was supposed to turn towards Ile Epo, en route to Oshodi.
However, when the vehicle’s brakes failed, the driver lost control and the trailer continued its downward journey. First, the trailer crushed a Tata bus and pushed it into a gutter. At this point, everybody started scurrying to safety. The passengers in the tricycle, where the lady was, also jumped out.
The lady had sat by the entrance, while the boy sat on her laps. The place where she sat was on the trailer’s path. She quickly pushed her brother to the other side. As she moved to follow him, the trailer crushed her.”

Punch gathered that the suspect attempted to flee the scene, but was nabbed by a mob which assaulted him before handing him over to the police.

A family friend of the victim, who lamented the death, said she had just finished her Ordinary National Diploma and just started her Higher National Diploma when tragedy struck.

“She was the first child of a family of six. Her father is distraught at the moment. Her mother is also devastated,” he added.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.

She said the driver was in police custody while investigation had started into the crash.

“We have deposited the corpse in a morgue for autopsy,” Badmos added.

The preachings of Christ 2000 years ago are still valid and relevant so how come Adeboye's preaching of 2012 is already outdated?
-
On the 20th of November 2012 Adeboye preached this message in his 'Open Heavens' book:
"Take for instance the Nigerian Naira, you have N1000, N500, N200, N100, N50, N20, N10 and N5 notes. It is the particular denomination that you use that God will multiply and return to you. If you keep using the smallest of the denominations and think you are thrifty or wise, you are only limiting yourself. Do yourself a favour by using the biggest denominations so as to get the greatest harvest. Sometimes however, when you sow in a foreign currency, God may give you the harvest in a local currency for a reason. But if you check the value and compare with what you sowed, "

A Lagos-based carpenter, Mr. Joseph Ajaye, may have been disfigured for life after his friend of five years, Kayode Abiola, allegedly bit off his nose during a fight over a customer.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the duo had not been in talking terms for sometime after Abiola, a painter, accused his carpenter friend of snatching his customer.
It was gathered that some other friends called a peace meeting to settle the feud, but were reportedly rebuffed by the men who began exchanging words at the venue.

It was said that the verbal exchange escalated after the suspect allegedly pushed the victim into a gutter, which resulted in a fight.
In the ensuing scuffle, the suspect allegedly drew the victim close and bit off his nose.

The incident happened on Thursday, January 26, 2017 in the Abule Oja area of Lagos State.

Ajaye, who spoke with our correspondent on Tuesday, said he met Abiola, who hails from Ondo State in 2012, when they started working together.

He said, “He comes to my house at least three times in a week for spiritual guidance. We work in the same shop and people know us as close friends.

While he is a painter, I am into carpentry and furniture making.

He also scouts for furniture jobs and I do the jobs. Sometimes, he pays me, other times, I leave the money for him.”

He said they disagreed over a job Abiola brought to him sometime in May 2015, which created animosity between them.

He said, “The job was worth more than the N220,000 he charged and I said I was not interested.

He asked me to take him to the market where he would get the materials and I did. He begged me that we should manage the money.

“However, I discovered that before the work ended, he had collected all the money.

When we ran out of funds,  I started borrowing money just to save my reputation.

“I later had to beg the client to pay me some money to be able to finish the job and he obliged me.

I finished the job on July 15, 2015, after spending 13 days on it.”

The 51-year-old Ijebu Ode, Ogun State indigene, explained that the customer called him some days later for another job.

Ajaye said he insisted that the customer speak with Abiola.

He explained that the client did and there was a mutual agreement between him and the suspect.

“The customer had yet to give me another job since then. However, to my surprise, Abiola started gossiping about me that I went behind him to collect a job worth N2m from the man.

He said I spoiled his reputation and I was a devil,” he added.

Our correspondent was told that some friends who observed the feud between them for a truce.

The meeting was, however, deadlocked, as the two friends allegedly resorted to abuse and threats.
Ajaye said he was heading for a bank after the meeting when he was accosted by the suspect.

“He said if anything happened to any member of his family, he would kill me. As he was talking, he pushed me into a gutter. I came out of the gutter and pushed him back.

“He attempted punching me and later put his finger into my mouth. I bit his fingers and he quickly released me. Then he went for my nose and bit it off,” he said.

It was learnt that residents, who separated the friends, took Ajaye to a hospital where a doctor demanded N30,000 to stitch the nose.

Our correspondent was told that the doctor later reduced the fee to N10,000 the following day when the pain became unbearable for Ajaye.

“Around 12pm, the tissue was stitched. But it had died and had to be removed,” he said.

The matter was said to have been reported at the Sabo Police Division.

The victim said he was not interested in pursuing a case against the suspect, adding that he wanted him to bear the cost of a surgery to reconstruct the nose.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the case was also reported to officials of the Office of the Public Defender, who assisted in the arrest of the suspect.

The Director of OPD, Mrs. Olubukola Salami, urged restraints when under provocation.

She said, “Actions taken in the heat of a moment can damage someone for life. A bit of patience and restraint could have prevented such a life-damaging action. Under no circumstance should anyone resort to such extreme measures to prove a point.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, saying  Abiola had been charged to court.

Buhari Told Me He Wants A VP Who Can Hold Nigeria Strong If He Dies – Pastor Bakare

Tunde Bakare, serving overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari chose him as running mate in 2011, because he wanted a vice-president who can hold the nation together if he dies in power.

Addressing his congregants in Lagos, Bakare said,
Buhari rejected former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s choice of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a former minister of finance back then.
He said all what transpired in that period had been documented in the book: ‘Strategic Intervention in Governance’, a book he authored.

“After I was called and I went to Abuja, and I sat with Mr President or General Buhari then, I said why me? ‘I’m not a politician’, ‘I do not belong to any political party’, ‘I am not carrying card of any party, why me’?

“He gave me all the reasons, they are written in the book; Strategic Intervention in Governance. He gave three reasons, but the one that made everyone around me that day to dove their hats was when he said: I am not as young as you think, and even Yar’Adua that is younger is dead.

“In case I die, I know you can hold the nation together. That was when Jim (he didn’t give his surrname) removed his cap and said egbon, you must agree.”

ALL BUHARI’S RUNNING MATES BEFORE 2011 HAD DIED:
Bakare said on another day, he sat with Buhari and said, “Sir, I need to understand something before I do anything. Every running mate of yours, including the one that was even your deputy in the military, is dead.

“Ume-Ezeoke is dead, Okadigbo is dead, Idiagbon is dead, am I about to die?”

Bakare said Buhari told him; “Pastor, you must be very funny, I have never even thought about it.”

Obama goes kite-surfing with British billionaire, Richard Branson

Newly retired but not tired former US president, Barack Obama has been pictured kite-surfing with his billionaire friend, Richard Branson during a recent getaway on the Virgin founder's private island.
Branson spoke about the 'honor' of being able to invite the former president and first lady to his island in a Blog post on Tuesday.

'One of the first stories Barack told me when he and Michelle arrived on Moskito Island was how, just before he became President, he had been surfing on a dangerous break in Hawaii.
'When he came in from an exhilarating session, the new head of his security team turned to him and said: “This will be the last time you surf for eight years.” For the next eight years he didn’t have the chance to surf, enjoy watersports or do many of the things he loved.
'So it was tremendous to offer him the chance to learn to kitesurf,' Branson wrote.
