Police invite Sahara Reporters Publisher Sowore for Questioning
The Nigeria police on Monday again invited the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, to a meeting on Thursday with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigations Department(SCID) in Lagos.
The invitation, which came as text message, did not disclose the purpose of the meeting. It merely invited Sowore and his colleagues to meet with the police authorities for an interview at 10a.m at the SCID headquarters in the Yaba area of Lagos.
According to PT, Sowore was on January 9 physically assaulted in Lagos by one Lekan Fatodu over a report by SR detailing how Mr. Fatodu was allegedly used as a front by Femi Fani-Kayode to corner public funds through the office of the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
When Sowore was brought before Fatai Owoseni, Lagos Police Commissioner, the police claimed a petition alleging criminal libel had been submitted by Mr. Fatodu against Sowore.
The following day when Sowore arrived at SCID, the police were more interested in “mediation”, asking Sowore to meet Mr. Fatodu to resolve their differences.
Sowore refused, saying the police had been dishonest in the handling of the case.
His attorney, Femi Falana, on January 12 issued a statement saying the allegations of threat to life, criminal libel and extortion stated in Mr. Fatodu’s petition were false.
A few days after Sowore’s release, a new dimension arose when a lawyer, Ugochukwu Osuagwu, issued a statement claiming Sowore was barred from leaving Nigeria over Mr. Fatodu’s petition.
Mr. Osuagwu is the same lawyer who, in January, addressed a petition to the police on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Yusuf Buratai, which led to the arrest of two Premium Times journalists a few days after Sowore was attacked and arrested in Lagos.
The continued police harassment of Sowore and other journalists has attracted condemnation by press freedom bodies across the globe.
Mr. Sowore told our reporters he plans to honour the invitation of the police on Thursday, an event which coincides with his birthday.

Only Buhari & His Doctors Know Why He Travelled Abroad For Treatment- Health Minister
The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, yesterday in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the inauguration of Central Pharmacy Store and Maternity Building at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex , Ile Ife, said only President Muhammadu Buhari and his medical doctors are the ones that can tell why the President left Nigeria for London to be treated. While speaking on patient-doctor relationship, Prof Adewole said, some patients prefer to continue with their former doctors instead of seeing a new one which will make them start all over again.
He said,” I won’t describe it as a large volume but we still have people travelling abroad. One, it is a matter of choice and secondly, there is what is called bonding between a doctor and his patient irrespective of where the doctor is and that creates a problem, the patient may not want to see a new doctor.
” If a patient is seeing a particular doctor and that doctor is not around he may likely wait. You don’t want to be examined by a new doctor, you don’t want to start all over again. It is one of the reasons and you can’t take it away.”
When asked if that was the reason the President travelled for treatment, the minister said Buhari and his doctors were the ones, who could answer the question.

Man rapes 70-year-old London returnee to death in Ogun State
A 70-year-old woman, identified simply as Mrs. Egunjobi, a London returnee, has allegedly been raped to death by a 33-year-old Dare Garuba, New Telegraph reports.
The incident occurred in Egunjobi’s shop at Mowe in Ofada-Mokolokin Local Council Development Area of Ogun State.
Witnesses yesterday said that the woman had taken two bottles of Alomo gin and became intoxicated.
When she started misbehaving, the suspect reportedly offered to lead her home so that she would not be injured.
However, when Garuba led Egunjobi into her shop, he decided to take advantage of her. The incident, which occurred about 11p.m. on Sunday, forced some of the traders in the area to shut down their shops yesterday when the news of her death filtered into town.
It was learnt that the suspect was the only one who approached Egunjobi and called the attention of some of the residents to the woman.
The Coordinator of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) in the area, Mr. Bamidele Ayeyemi, said they were outside about 11p.m. when a Hausa man, who went to defecate in a nearby bush close to the woman’s shop, discovered that her shop opened. According to Ayeyemi, the man raised the alarm, thinking that armed robbers had broken into the shop.
He said: “Some of my boys and I, immediately we heard the man shouting thief, thief, we called for reinforcement and went round the market.
Unfortunately, when we moved closed to the woman’s shop, the suspect opened the door and bolted. “When the suspect was trying to escape from the scene, one of us was able to identify him as Dare. That was how we started searching for him in the community.”
The body inside the shop Gov. Umahi Another resident, who identified himself simply as Balogun, said after the remains of the woman had been taken care of; they went to report the incident to the head of the community and policemen at Mowe Division.
He said: “What surprised us was that it was the same suspect who promised to take care of the woman so as not to sustain injuries that later took advantage of her.
We searched the community for about four hours before we finally apprehended him in the ceiling of an uncompleted building where he was hiding.
We then handed him over to the police for appropriate action.”
It was learnt that Garuba was still making love to the woman without knowing that she had died.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mowe Police Division, was said to be at the scene of the incident with the woman’s husband. But the widower refused to comment on his wife’s death.
Garuba’s mother, Mrs. Jumoke Musa, said she was fed up with the attitude of her son. She said: “I have done everything to prevent him from becoming a hoodlum. I left him with his father’s family after his father’s death because I have remarried and I did not want to endure his way of life.
“Even while staying with me in my present place, I have bailed him countless times for different offences he has committed in the community.”
The victim’s body was in her shop, covered with a piece of cloth yesterday.
Kim Storm NY To Support Kanye At Yeezy Show
The reality star, 36, was spotted arriving at the couple's apartment building wearing a full-length, multi-colored fur coat. She kept her head down and covered her eyes with sunglasses despite the dark night.
The reality star sported her long black wig and was dressed in a white tank top and drawstring sweatpants under her fur.
She completed her show of support for Kanye by also donning a pair of Yeezy sneakers.
But shortly after arriving, Kim did a quick change and headed out again on the town.
However, it's claimed the mother-of-two is more than a little anxious about whether or not her rapper husband, 39, is going to be able to handle the pressure of debuting his Yeezy season 5 collection on Wednesday following his highly-publicized 'psychotic breakdown' in November.
A source close to the family revealed to People that Kim and Kanye 'spent the weekend apart so Kanye could focus on the show.'
The source also said that Kim is trying to be as supportive as possible because this kind of stress 'has been very bad for him in the past.'
They continued, 'There is definitely some concern that the show will be too much stress for him. He gets so involved and it’s hard for him to not get obsessed.'
2 Die, 29 Vehicles Burnt As Tanker Catches Fire In Apapa
Two persons are feared dead after a tanker loaded with petrol skidded
off the road and spilled its content at Coconut under bridge along Apapa
Road, Lagos State, and later caught fire.
No fewer than 29 vehicles parked in a mechanic workshop under the bridge were also burnt, while two cars inside a garage in the area were razed.
Punch Metro learnt that trouble started after some miscreants besieged the tanker, which fell at about 8pm on Sunday, to scoop fuel into jerrycans
They were reportedly running away from the scene when a jerrycan fell from one of them and subsequently caught fire.
It was gathered that two persons were trapped in the fire, which spread back to the scene of the accident and caused the tanker to explode.
A Punch correspondent, who visited the scene on Monday, counted 25 burnt vehicles apart from the tanker as mechanics lamented their losses.
One of the victims, Friday Asuquo, said five vehicles brought by his customers for repairs were destroyed by the inferno, which raged for about two hours.
He said, “I came to park a Toyota Matrix around 7pm yesterday (Sunday). As I got home, I was called on the telephone that a tanker fell and it resulted in a fire incident. The fire didn’t break out immediately. Some area boys were scooping fuel from the tanker and it led to a fire incident.
“Apart from the Toyota Matrix, three Jeeps of different brands, and a Big Daddy Toyota brought by my customers were burnt. One of my customers has come, I am still expecting others to come for us to discuss. About 30 vehicles were burnt in this workshop. Some have been removed.”
Another mechanic, Shola Adebayo, told Punch Metro that he was relaxing at home when his apprentice called him. He said four of his customers’ vehicles – Toyota Sienna, Toyota Camry, a pick-up and ML – were razed.
“It was a great loss to me and I don’t know what to tell the owners of the vehicles. My income is not enough to cater to my family; but I believe God is in control.
“Two of those scooping fuel suffered serious burns, but I don’t know whether they are alive or dead,” he added.
A member of a union at the garage, Sulyman Olanrewaju, said the fire started about an hour after the tanker fell.
Olanrewaju said, “Speeding caused the accident. Then hoodlums began to scoop fuel from the tanker. Some people tried to chase them away. In the process, one of them fell while running away with the fuel in a jerrycan and it resulted in the fire. The boy was caught in the fire and was rushed to a hospital. I am not sure that he will survive.”
“The two cars that got burnt here were brought for repainting. It was unfortunate that the hoodlums engaged in this kind of act to wreak havoc on the property of innocent people.”
A sympathiser, who did not disclose his name, lamented the losses caused by the accident, saying that the tanker driver fled the scene.
Punch Metro learnt that it took the joint effort of officials of the Lagos State Fire Service and the state emergency management agency to put out the fire.
The fire service director, Rasaq Fadipe, said the driver had wanted to negotiate a sharp bend under the bridge, adding that firefighters from four stations were deployed to put out the fire.
He said, “The vehicle might have just left a depot and was going towards Mile 2. The driver lost control of the vehicle and the tanker fell, resulting in an explosion.
“The fire trailed the spilled content to a mechanic yard, where over 50 vehicles were parked. Twenty one caught fire, but we were able to prevent over 30 vehicles from being burnt. Fire stations from Alausa, Sari Iganmu, Ilupeju and Isolo responded. There was no casualty.”
Fadipe also advised motorists against speeding and urged them to always have functioning fire extinguishers in their vehicles.

Tonto Dikeh confirms she has left her husband!
Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh in a reply to a concerned fan's open letter has revealed she and her husband, Churchill Olakunle are no longer together and he has not called to check up on her and their son since she left.
She also said she blocked his access to her for the sake of her emotional stability. Read what she wrote after teh cut....
"Dear 'concerned' fan, Good day.
How are you and your family? My regards, love and greetings to them.
Now to address a little bit of your letter, firstly I say I do appreciate your concern. Then I move on to say thank you. When a woman leaves her husband, she takes her child because absolutely nothing else matters to her but the child. This is what I did and I happily give all access for his father to see him. Now my question to you is that did your source also tell you that he has never called for once to Ask how his son is doing? I will admit, I personally blocked his access to me for the sake of my emotional stability. But nonetheless he has the nannys no, my assistants contact,my part time helps number, and many other mediums of reaching the son your source claims I "took away". He could use all possible mediums wisely if he wished to.
Secondly I will let you go on the ill talk on smoking as I would love to believe you were just sent and ignored my drug test result or you never even saw it in the first place..
As an acclaimed "concerned fan" I expect you to pray and not to indirectly throw "concerned" shades..
What goes on in my marriage and home is my personal life, i'm grateful for all the years of support you all have been giving me but when it comes to the matters of the heart have enough respect to let us go thru our moments alone.. Like I said earlier your prayers for wisdom on both parties wld be more appreciated. No one knows what goes on behind close doors...I chose to make you believe and see what I wanted you all to see in order to protect even those that did not deserve protection. My dear friend that's called marriage!!! God bless you immensely for even thinking about my family, God has never failed, God never sleeps nor slumbers, He is a just God. He never brings us this far to leave us, We will be ok.. Once again thank you so much my "concerned" friend and have a blessed day!!!"
