Lagos State Govt. set to execute Rev. Kings alongside others
The General-Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, a.k.a Rev. King, who was sentenced to death by hanging, by the appeal court, and whose death sentence was upheld the Supreme court had on 27 February 2016, will soon be executed by the Lagos State Government.
The decision taken on his case by the Lagos State Government, was disclosed to PM News by the State's Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem. During the ministerial press conference held in Lagos today, Kazeem disclosed that the state government was reviewing the matter, with a view to taking a crucial decision very soon.
He further disclosed that he visited the Lagos state prisons recently, and discovered
that those on death row were acting as though they had certain rights, which excluded them from being executed. He revealed that the prison officials complained about this attitude of theirs, and called on the Government to act and remedy the situation.
“Very soon, you will see the action of this government on that issues, we are reviewing the case on Rev. King and others on death row. .
Lots of people are on death row, Rev. King is not the only one on death row, it is on the instruction of Ambode that I visited the prisons recently and I discuss the issue with the prison officials and they expressed their concerns.
We are moving in that direction of signing. The prison officials said we need to look at that seriously. Those on death row are beginning to think they have some rights. We are going to move in that direction, you will hear from me, but I will not tell you the exact date.”
Kazeem said the previous administration had not deemed it fit to sign documents, for the execution of convicts on death row. He however, vowed that the Ambode administration was moving towards, signing necessary document to ensure those on death row are executed.
He further revealed that the case of Major Hamzat Al-Mustapha, the Chief Security Officer of General Sani Abacha accused of killing the late Kudirat Abiola, has been re-opened the case. According to him, the government was putting machinery in motion to ensure that justice was done on the matter.

Chris Brown Under Investigation After Punching Photographer Who Documented His Nightclub Appearance
Chris Brown is under investigation by police for allegedly punching a photographer who was documenting his nightclub appearance.
The 27-year-old singer songwriter is believed to have been involved in a fight at nightclub Aja Channelside in Tampa, Florida, in the early hours of Monday morning, and was embroiled in the scuffle when the venue's in-house photographers kept trying to take pictures of him.
According to TMZ, the 'Loyal' hitmaker and his entourage continually asked the staff to stop getting photographs of the vocalist, which was continually ignored. And the final straw came when Chris was in the DJ booth and he spotted a photographer taking what was believed to be a crowd shot of all of the guests at the hot spot that all hell broke loose.
The photographer is believed to have told the publication once the musician caught sight of him taking another snap, he leapt over a couch and attacked him in a corner of the club.
And the photographer has claimed Chris has caused him to suffer from a painful jaw, although it is unknown whether it has been broken, as well as a split lip, and he is reportedly seeking medical attention.
Footage of the aggressive brawl has also been obtained by the site, which captures Chris - who was dressed in a red jumper - ran to the side of the stage and can be seen throwing punches, before being hurled away.
The clip also shows Chris' bodyguard, who adorned a yellow ensemble, pull the American star - who has two-year-old daughter Royalty with his former partner Nia Amey - out of the altercation, whilst somebody repeatedly asks the pair to "Chill".
Tampa Police Department released a statement about the incident on Twitter.
They said: "We are actively investigating an incident involving R&B singer Chris Brown. Here's what happened..."
The incident report reads: "During an after party event, Chris Brown and his crew came into the club for a 'showing' for which he was paid.
Bennie Vines is a photographer for Club Aja. As he was taking photos, Vines reported Chris Brown 'sucker punched' him for allegedly taking photos.
By the time officers were contacted and arrived, Brown left the scene.
The victim, Vines, wishes to prosecute for a minor laceration to his lip. Medical attention was refused. Investigation continues."

British Pop Legend 'Investigated For Alleged Rape Of 14-Year-Old Virgin
A British pop legend is reportedly being investigated for the rape of a
14-year-old girl. The attack allegedly took place in the 1970s after the
girl, who was a virgin, was picked out from the front row of a concert
by the solo star's bodyguard and invited back to a hotel.
The woman says she was plied with champagne before the assault, that has "affected" her entire life. The alleged victim, who describes herself as a "naive 14-year-old virgin" at the time, says she had been to see the singer in concert with some friends after being given free tickets.
She told The Sun that she had never even "French-kissed" a boy at the time and that she couldn't understand the look on the star's face when he was "probably climaxing". Police are reportedly looking into the claims and she met with detectives last week.
It's alleged that the woman and her friends were invited to the singer's hotel the following day by a bodyguard who had spotted them giggling near to the stage.
The girls, 13 and 14 at the time, went along hoping to meet the pop star and get his autograph.
The woman, now in her 50s, says she was led to the balcony and offered a glass of champagne and took it to be "part of the crowd".
She said: "Before I knew it, it was like an immobility had set in there and then. He had me down on the bed in one fell swoop.
"His gown was off. I was wearing a jumpsuit. He zipped it down and what had started as affectionate and safe, almost, was suddenly becoming painful and forceful, not comfortable."
The woman says she left the room before going back because she had forgotten to get his autograph.
And when she went back, she says the star cupped her face and promised to stay in touch.
She added that she only realised later when she was showering that she was covered in bruises and that she'd been traumatised for years over the incident that she was too scared to tell her friends and family members about.
She said what happened left her obsessed with the singer and unable to have normal relationships with men.
An official probe was reportedly opened by police in 2014, but dropped six months later.
However, it was disclosed last month that a new prosecutor and investigating officer had been assigned to the case.

Matharoo sisters declared wanted by the police
According to Politics Nigeria, the Matharoo sisters are wanted in Nigeria as the case they have with Femi Otedola is still in court.
Kiran and Taranjot Matharoo alongside their Nigerian accomplice, Babatunde Oyebode a.k.a Baudex are facing charges of extortion, blackmail and cyberbullying before a magistrate court in Yaba. Continue reading the report by Politics Nigeria after the cut...
Trouble started for the sisters and Oyebode after billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola wrote a petition to the Nigerian police on an attempt by the trio to blackmail and extort him. After their first appearance in court, the sisters absconded leaving only Oyebode who has been diligent in making court appearances. Politics Nigeria went digging and a visit to the prosecutor’s office in Yaba revealed that the sisters obtained a temporary travel document that aided their escape.
Discoveries made during investigations
Politics Nigeria discovered that the petition against the trio was filed by three petitioners namely; Femi Otedola, Dapo Balogun and Omeregie Ivie (Lawyer). The sisters and Oyebode were tracked down to Eko hotel, Lagos and arrested by the Nigerian police force. They were arraigned before a magistrate court in Yaba and granted bail in the sum of N500,000 each and two sureties each. The police seized an apple laptop, a camera and 2 Canadian passports from the sisters.
Politics Nigeria was able to identify one of the sureties as one Alhaji Waheed Sobunlo. Mr. Sobunlo was a surety to the trio. He wrote an undertaking to provide the trio on every date of adjournment. The undertaking was written on 26/12/2016. At a second hearing into the case on in January 2017, the sisters did not appear in court and this prompted the presiding judge to issue a bench warrant for the sisters. The warrants were dated 25/1/2017. A bench warrant was issued for their surety, Mr. Sobunlo on 2/2/2017 after he failed to produce the sisters in court. It was later discovered Sobunlo and 2 other sureties had also absconded. Only one of the sureties was arrested and he is currently in prison custody. Unconfirmed reports reveal that Sobunlo escaped to the US. All the issued bench warrants are still in effect.
During the course of investigations, Politics Nigeria learned that Sobunlo attempted to reclaim the passports of the girls from the police but met stiff resistance. A reliable source stated that Sobunlo revealed that the girls obtained a temporary travel document from the Canadian high commission in Lagos. Although Politics Nigeria can not confirm the authenticity of this statement, it is believed that this document aided the sisters in their daring escape.
Canadian Global affairs responds
The Canadian global affairs office has responded to the matter through a statement made available to Politics Nigeria by CityNews Toronto, and it reads;
Consular services have been provided to the Canadian citizens who had been detained in Lagos, Nigeria. To protect the privacy of the individuals concerned, further details on this case cannot be released.
IRCC is best placed to answer questions about the process for issuing emergency travel documents.
The statement was signed by the Global affairs spokesperson, John Babcock.
The Nigerian police has since written to the Canadian high commission in Lagos over the matter and currently awaiting a response.
Vigilantes Beat Businessman To Death For Allegedly Stealing Dryer
Two members of the Vigilante Service of Ogun State (VSO), Ismaila Jimoh
(aka Bintin) and Hassan Olatunde, have been arrested in connection with
the death of a 28-year-old businessman, Tayo Olatunbosun.
Jimoh and Olatunde were said to have apprehended Olatunbosun in the Adiyan area of Ogun State on Saturday for allegedly stealing a hairdryer.
They reportedly beat the businessman with charms and later took him to the Agbado Police Station around 10pm.
Punch Metro gathered that the police released Olatunbosun on bail. He was subsequently admitted to a hospital in the community, where he gave up the ghost on Sunday.
In the wake of the death, angry youths, who claimed the victim was returning from a party when he was arrested, took to the street and vandalised the VSO office.
The mob also reportedly set four motorcycles ablaze.
Our correspondent learnt that a combined team of operatives of the Agbado division and the Area Command, Sango, was deployed in the area to restore peace.
A resident, Bashiru Irewole, said residents were pained by Olatunbosun’s death, urging the state government to curtail the excesses of the vigilance group.
He said, “Contrary to the stealing allegation, the man was returning from a party when members of the VSO stopped him. They seriously tortured him. He eventually died yesterday (Sunday) in the afternoon. He traded in accessories such as phones and laptops. He was not a thief. They just wasted his life.
“His friends attacked the VSO office. They burnt a motorcycle in front of the office and moved to the Olomowewe area in Adiyan, where they burnt three motorcycles parked by the roadside. There was confusion everywhere.
“Through the intervention of the police, the situation was brought under control on Sunday evening. Policemen have been patrolling the community.”
Another resident, who did not want his name in print, said there might have been a disagreement between Olatunbosun and the vigilantes prior to the incident.
“Those that killed him must be brought to book. I don’t think they beat him because he stole the dryer or not.
“They probably had a disagreement with him before now and they decided to deal with him. They beat him with charms and later took him to the station,” he said.
Punch Metro learnt that the two vigilantes were later arrested by the Agbado division.
A police source said the hairdryer purportedly recovered from Olatunbosun was taken to the station.
“By the time the vigilantes brought him to the station with the dryer, he had been seriously injured.
“He was released to go and treat himself, but he died in the hospital,” the source added.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects were being investigated for murder and would be charged to court afterwards.
“The two vigilantes in question are in custody. The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that they should be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for proper investigation. Even if he was caught stealing, that does not mean he should be killed,” he added.

7 Killed, 19 Injured In Easter Tragedy In Lagos
While two passengers died and 14 sustained varying degree of injuries in the Gbagada crash, five died and five others were injured in the Surulere incident.
It was learnt that the Gbagada accident happened after a commercial bus had a head-on collision with a cab at about 3pm.
Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency rescued the 14 survivors and rushed them to the Gbagada General Hospital and the Trauma Centre, Ikeja.
The General Manager of LASEMA, Mr. Adeshina Tiamiyu, who confirmed the tragedy, noted that the deceased were taken to the Lagos Mainland Hospital mortuary.
He said, “We received a distress call about the accident at about 3pm. It happened around Gbagada bus stop, inward Anthony.
“Preliminary investigation conducted at the scene revealed that a Volkswagon bus had a head-on collision with a Mazda taxi.
“Fourteen persons were rescued by emergency responders and taken to the Gbagada General Hospital and the Trauma Centre, as they sustained varying degree of injuries.
“Two lives were lost and their remains were moved by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit to the Lagos Mainland Hospital mortuary. The damaged vehicles were recovered with the help of our towing truck for free flow of traffic in the area.”
In the Surulere incident, which occurred around 6pm at Funsho Williams Avenue, five passengers lost their lives after a commercial bus burst into flames.
A witness, Rasaq Amao, who spoke with Punch on the phone, said he was playing football inside the National Stadium when he saw smokes billowing into the sky.
“Around 6pm, I suddenly saw heavy smokes billowing into the sky and left with some friends. I traced the smokes to the under bridge area, where a commercial bus was burning,” he said.
Amao stated that four persons were brought out dead from the bus, while other passengers were rescued and rushed to a hospital.
“I saw four dead bodies. People assisted in rescuing some passengers. They have been taken to a hospital. I learnt that the fire was caused by mechanical faults.”
Another witness, who identified himself only as Ola, said LASEMA officials battled to put out the fire, adding that the accident caused a traffic jam on the road.
An emergency worker, who was at the scene, said five people died in the accident.
The bus was descending the bridge inwards the Iponri barracks when the accident happened.
“Five people lost their lives, including three adult females, one adult male and a child. They were all burnt beyond recognition,” he added.
The LASEMA boss, Tiamiyu, who also confirmed the casualty figure, advised motorists, especially commercial bus drivers, to always be safety-conscious.
He added that the accidents would have been avoided if the drivers complied with traffic rules.
