Offa Robbery Suspects Arrested Through Girlfriends

It has been revealed that the 12 suspects currently being interrogated by Police operatives in Kwara State over the recent bank robbery in Offa were arrested through the tracking of mobile phones the robbers collected from victims.

Vanguard gathered that after the robbery operation, the suspects took away the handsets of the victims, which they later gave out to their girlfriends.

Officials of the robbed banks were also said to have given the Police all handsets found within their premises after the robbery. It was gathered that the interrogation of the girlfriends with whom the phones were found, led to the arrest of the suspects in Ibadan, Lagos and Abeokuta.

Further checks revealed that the suspects had been in and out of jail several times and that they regrouped for that operation. Some policemen compromised

Vanguard also reliably gathered that the proprietor of the hotel where the bandits lodged a day before they struck, was said to have informed the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in the town over the alleged discoveries of some incriminating materials on the bandits while they were checking into his hotel.

The DPO and Divisional Crime Officer, DCO, immediately sent some officers to the hotel. A source said instead of arresting the suspects, the police officers negotiated with the bandits, and “the bandits offered the officers N400,000.” When the policemen returned to the station, they told the DPO and DCO that the bandits were Yahoo boys and not robbers as claimed by the hotel owner.

The source said: “It was not surprising that the robbers visited the police station the following day and killed about nine policemen in retaliation for collecting N400,000 from them.”

Three siblings Confirmed Dead Due to Agro-chemical Spayed By Parent

A young couple has lost their three children after they sprayed an agro-chemical to kill crawling insects at their home.
The children, nine-month-old twin girls and their two-year-old brother, died at the 37 Military hospital, last Friday night, a day after the incident.
According to Adomonline, the family arrived at the hospital with severe respiratory problems, hours after inhaling the deadly substance called organophosphate, found in a product called Topstoxin.
Topstoxin is a fumigation tablet for the control of insects in stored grain, processed food and feeds.
The substance, also known as AlP, is used as a rodenticide and insecticide and a fumigant for stored cereal grains.
Experts say it is used to kill small verminous mammals such as moles and rodents.
The parents said they purchased the poisonous substance based on recommendations from a friend after they had unsuccessfully tried to get rid of insects with regular sprays.
The mother of the deceased children sprayed the rooms and stayed away for six hours before returning home. The parents told the medical team that instructions on the bottle advised users to stay clear of the sprayed areas until after five hours.
On reaching home after six hours of using the chemical, the bereaved father began feeling sick and so sought medical care and returned home only to find his wife and children finding it difficult to breathe.
The father, who was still feeling weak, sought help from neighbours, who rushed the entire family to the hospital.
Despite putting the children on oxygen to aid their breathing, they died shortly after.
The hospital detained the parents for observation but they were discharged on Saturday and have been asked to report to again for a review.
Health authorities are currently investigating the source of the chemical
The 37 Military Hospital confirmed the incident and said a sample of the substance has been sent to the Public Health Division, the Food and Drugs Authority and the Environmental Protection Agency for further investigations.
The names of the parents have not been released.
A hospital source who pleaded anonymity said:
”We cannot release the identities of the parents and the deceased children because we are bound to respect their private space.”
The three children will be buried on Tuesday April 24.

Grieving lady has taken to social media to mourn her late sister! Writing how heartbroken she is, she blamed Epe Hospital, Lagos Governor, nonchalant nurses and Nepa for making her die.
Her words;

Facing the reality of life is one hard thing to deal with! I know so many people see me looking all good and smiley for the gram! It is not always easy to hide the pains but I have been a fighter, I haven’t been fighting alone! Side by side I fought the battle of life with you Sis! Over 3 decades ago we were brought to this life with the Sickle Cell anemia! M not even going to mention how we faced rejection from our father! But I know things didn’t remain the same after we lost our mom 1997!

Since then we realized she has actually been covering a big space ... side by side we face terrible Crisis, life-threatening pain! Let’s go for “ Sickle Cells Forum” that is ur anthem every Sat! But I hate to accept the fact that I am one! But as I said you are a fighter! I had never been serious planning any wedding like I was with yours! Just so u know D.A I wouldn’t even bring out my camera to take pics if I know I would be wishing you a RIP with it! If I ever get mental stable I guess God has a plan! Nothing feels the same for me ...I know you are in Good hands, I was not just expecting you to leave this knife in my heart! I had said you are very wicked .. say a lot of B.S in annoyance when i heard about your death but I forgive you! Not sure I would forgive my self for not raising the funds for bone marrow transplant as soon as I thought! My World has crashed once again! Now you left me with 3 kids to raise! Just know they r in save hands! You would prolly be alive if your first love didn’t let you down” ... if I had raised money for bone marrow transplant” .... if the management of Epe General hospital did their Job, you were trying to survive with an oxygen gas mask! Then boom nepa took light and behold the “No Fuel Excuses” just so u know if it’s possible I would split my lifetime with you! ... here i am lifeless, hopeless and saying a big thank you to every nurse that nonchalantly and sluggishly attended to my sis and another thank you to. @akinwunmiambode for killing all hopes I had in Epe, Lagos ... and this Great Country... According to online sources, the Auchi Poly final year student of who was caught by a lecturer identified as Ganni, had potential answers written on the slippers she planned to cheat with.
This follows up report of a Nigerian Professor who was caught cheating in an examination. It was gathered that the University of Jos (UNIJOS) suspended one of its academic staff, who was allegedly caught cheating while writing an examination on May 4, 2016.
Benedicta Daudu, an associate professor of law and former head of the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law of the Faculty of Law in UNIJOS, was allegedly caught copying from a prepared answer during an examination for a Master’s degree in Research and Public Policy in the Faculty of Social Sciences of the same university.
After the report, Mrs. Daudu’s membership of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption was immediately suspended. Insiders at UNIJOS told PREMIUM TIMES that the lecturer has been suspended from work, and from the masters programme.
“I can confirm to you that the Senate Disciplinary Committee found her guilty of the allegations, and has suspended her from the Masters programme for two semesters,” an official of the university told this newspaper.
“Also, the matter was referred to the Staff Disciplinary Committee which also suspended her from work. So she is no longer teaching.”
Another official of the university said the professor sued the institution over her suspension. Man stabs friend to death at birthday party

Men of the police force in Ogun State have arrested an Abuja-based computer engineer, Oladeji Hamzat, for allegedly stabbing his childhood friend, identified simply as Bayo, to death.
The violence was preceded by an altercation that reportedly ensued between them at a bar – Hummes – in Agbado, in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
We gathered that the duo and others were celebrating with a friend, identified only as Owoseni, who was marking his birthday at the bar around 10pm on Friday.
It was gathered that Hamzat arrived late at the event and greeted friends he met at the bar one after another.
After some minutes, Bayo was said to have confronted him for not according him the regard he gave other friends.
In the ensuing fight, Hamzat allegedly stabbed Bayo in the neck, throwing the bar into a commotion.
We learnt that the victim was rushed to three hospitals before he gave up the ghost at the Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital, Lagos.
A team from the Agbado Police Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Sunday Omonijo, responded to a distress call from the bar and arrested Hamzat.
A police source told news reporters that eyewitness’ accounts showed that the violence was the result of an argument over greetings. The source said,
“Bayo and other friends were at the bar when Hamzat arrived. He (Hamzat) greeted other friends. While the birthday celebration was on, Bayo challenged him that he shunned him when he arrived at the bar. That led to the disagreement and he stabbed Bayo with a broken bottle. Their relatives said they were childhood friends”.
A worker at the bar, Godwin Frank, said the suspect wanted to flee the facility after stabbing Bayo, but was intercepted. He said,
“I was taking wine to the barman from the store when I heard the sound of a bottle being smashed. By the time I got to the bar hall, he (Hamzat) was running away as fast as he could. One of our security men and some people intercepted him at the gate and dragged him inside.
They (Hamzat and Bayo) were at the same table with their friends. The deceased was even the one who bought the roasted meat they ate.”
The manager of the bar, who did not disclose his name, said the victim slumped outside the bar, adding that he made efforts to save his life. He said,
“I was at the back of the bar when the incident happened. I heard people running outside and I came out. I saw the victim and the suspect running outside. Somebody said the suspect stabbed the deceased. Our security personnel tried to find out what happened. They found out that the man (Bayo) had already been stabbed. People were running helter-skelter. The victim ran to the next compound and fell there.
The suspect wanted to escape, but our security man held him. The suspect was shouting ‘Is he dead?’ I saw the victim lying down and we took him to three hospitals, but he was rejected. We then took him to the Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital and I deposited money for his treatment. He died there. The doctor said he had lost a lot of blood.
I called the DPO and the suspect was arrested. We took the deceased to the station from where his corpse was deposited in a morgue. We tried all we could to save his life. The deceased’s parents said they were friends. He was stabbed outside the bar.”
But the 35-year-old suspect, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, said he did not know how Bayo was stabbed.
He stated that the deceased approached him after he (Bayo) was allegedly drunk, asking why he (Hamzat) had not been around for a long time.
Hamzat, who claimed he could no longer remember Bayo’s face, said he shunned him and continued to have fun, adding that he was at it when the victim confronted him again. He said,
“I am a computer engineer and work in Abuja. I arrived here (Ogun State) on Thursday to visit my parents who live in Adiyan, in the Ifo LGA, and I lodged in a hotel at Agbado. On Friday, I attended Owoseni’s birthday. He (Bayo) came to where I was sitting and asked me where I had been all the while. I could not remember where I knew him.
He came to meet me again and his friends cautioned him and said that was how he misbehaved whenever he was drunk. It was like he was looking for trouble. He confronted me again, smashed a bottle and attempted to stab me. I used my hand to block him and I started bleeding in the hand.  I rushed outside with the blood. People started to beat me up. That is all I know. I do not know how he was stabbed in the neck.”
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the case had been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution. He said,
“One Chinedu reported the case at the station. We do not know what led to the fight. The suspect stabbed the victim in the neck at a bar. He was rushed to a hospital where he died. The suspect has been arrested”.
