If you give your all to acting, your love life will suffer – Padita Agu

Padita Agu
In the early years of Nollywood, delectable actress, Padita Agu, graced our screens in a way that left her face imprinted in our hearts. Known for her tranquil way of fitting into roles, Padita took on Nollywood. Just when we thought things were going her way, she disappeared from the scene around 2005.
In an exclusive interview with Sunday Scoop, she shed more light on her hiatus.

“I stepped out of Nollywood in 2005 to enable me study for my first degree at the University of Abuja. After that, I observed the mandatory National Youth Service Corps programme and then travelled to Los Angeles where I studied Acting at the New York Film Academy. I also studied film-making but I am back now and ready to practice all I have learnt.”
Speaking on how she has fared since her return, she said, “It has not been easy; I have been trying to make a comeback. I didn’t even want to step out in the first place but it was beyond my control at the time but I tried coming back between 2009 and 2016 when I started getting called up for jobs.”
Having separated from her husband, Agu shares her views on some of the problems with celebrity marriages.
“It is not only celebrities that are going through marital issues, even some of those working in the banks have problems in their homes. As long as you are giving your job your all, something has to give way. There are actors who balance it well. I think it is a personal thing and not a general thing. At the end of the day, balance is what is key.”
When Sunday Scoop asked her which she would choose between family and her acting career, she said, “As a single person, I did give my all to acting at some point but when family came into the picture, I had to divide the attention and one had to suffer. I wouldn’t say that I wish I had a family now and then I would give my all to acting. Instead, I will find a way to balance it. But I have no regrets for choosing my family over my acting career because if you give so much to any job, your love life will suffer.”
