Policeman Axed To Death In Niger

Few weeks after being promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police at Kpakungu Division in Minna, Niger State, Mr. Aaron Sunday was axed to death on Friday.Sunday, who was a Divisional Crime Officer at the station, was killed at 6 pm while on duty.

He was said to have led some of his men to quell a disturbance by some hoodlums, who invaded a wedding party at Barasken-Sale Ward when the incident occurred.

An eyewitnesses told Sunday Punch, “Someone had sent a distress call to the police that some area boys (thugs) high from smoking Indian hemp were harassing innocent people at the venue of the party. While the police team was trying to restore law and order, one of the boys reportedly axed the DSP from behind.”

The police officer was said to have collapsed in a pool of his blood and died before he could reach the hospital where he was rushed to.

Several persons were apprehended by the police in connection with the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Bala Elkana, confirmed the incident, saying over 13 suspects have been arrested by the command.

According to Elkana , the arrested suspects will help in fishing out others.

The command declared a war on hoodlums in Minna and advised parents to ensure their wards refrained from thuggery.

“Any youth caught in the act will suffer the same and will be charged to court. It is high time that we stopped the madness,” he warned.

Meanwhile, the remains of Sunday have been deposited at the Minna General Hospital morgue.
