A woman who joined the online dating site in search of love and romance has sued, alleging that she was r*ped and forced to live like a slave by the man she met online.

The complainant, who was not named for legal reasons, moved in with the accused shortly after they met online.

Things assumed gory dimension when her supposed lover transferred her to his sister, who he said would be able to understudy her and determine if she was good enough a partner for him.

“I was forced to cook and clean like a domestic servant. I was punished by being bathed with bleach as my sister in-law sat in a bath,” she alleged.

The prosecutor attested that her 34-year-old lover forced her to perform oral s*x on him twice, while he and his sister repeatedly punched and kicked her.

The prosecutor said, “She was living in a state of fear, oppression, being bullied and controlled.

“The accused, Mr. Colin Leacock and his sister, Many, both assaulted and r*ped the complainant and that was at a time when the complainant was living in a household where she was being bullied and assaulted regularly, sometimes by Colin, but mostly by his sister, Mandy.

“She was lonely and she went looking for love and romance on the internet. In March 2015, she met the accused online and matters very quickly developed between them.

“Having visited twice, she came to London and moved in with the accused in his flat. Things soon started to turn sour, in particular she was unhappy at the extent to which Mandy interfered and seemed to dominate her brother Colin.

“She didn’t consider her to be good enough for Colin and she needed to prove that she was capable of cooking and cleaning and doing necessary household work.

“She quickly became an unpaid servant, sleeping on the floor, required to clean and after a time soon the victim of repeated assaults.”

The woman confessed that she moved in with Colin just because she felt lonely and wanted to be loved again after a previous abusive relationship.

The trial continues in a London court.

Female Manager-Turned-Hawker Killed Gruesomely In Lagos

A lady said to be in her 50s, identified simply as Vivian, has been killed on Adewale Kuku Street, Millennium Estate, Gbagada area of Lagos.
It was learnt that the victim, whose relatives were unknown, suddenly appeared in the community more than a year ago.

She was said to be sleeping in an abandoned white truck parked in a bush on the estate when she was killed on Monday. She had deep machete cuts in the head, neck and hand.

Residents reported the matter to policemen at the Anthony division who removed the corpse.

When Punch visited the scene of the incident on Tuesday, it was observed that Vivian had slept on the driver’s seat.

The assailant had smashed the glass of one of the side doors, with bloodstains beside the truck.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said she was hacked to death.

He said, “The woman usually slept in the truck. But every morning, she would go to a house to get a bucket of water to take her bath. She was a loner.

I once sighted an identity card with her, which indicated that she was a manager in a big company before things took a turn for the worse for her.

“I have known her for more than one year. She was intelligent and spoke good English. In fact, she attended one of the Pentecostal churches on this estate.”

The resident explained that Vivian, who hawked engine oil in jerrycans, was killed in the wee hours of Monday.
A trader, who asked not to be identified, said the victim might have been killed by those she was dealing with in the trade or suspected r*pists.

She said, “She supplied engine oil to some people around here. She was a middleman between the suppliers and the receivers. It is possible that a deal went wrong and that was why she was killed. It is also possible some people had noticed that she always slept alone in the truck and had wanted to take advantage of her. She appeared to me to be mentally ill.”

The trader said Vivian sometime left the estate for an unknown place at intervals of three weeks.

A welder on the estate, alleged to be Vivian’s boyfriend, was arrested by the police on Monday.

A source told Punch that the police tricked the suspect to the scene after a resident told the police that he was Vivian’s boyfriend.

He said, “When the police came to remove the corpse, a woman told them she had a boyfriend. The police then called the man and said they had a job for him. When he got there, they arrested him. The man who owned the plot of land on which she died was also invited.”

Security men on the estate said the late Vivian always greeted them.

“She was respectful and rarely talked. She would just greet and go her way. I used to see her with jerrycans of oil. She was tall, dark and slim and should be about 50-year-old,” a security man said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident. She said the police were investigating and seeking the relatives of the slain woman.

Nigerian Soldiers have sacked six villages in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, killing six persons, including a pregnant woman.
This followed the killing of a soldier at the weekend by some youths in the area.

But the Brigade Commander of the 707 Special Force, Brig. Clement Apere, denied that soldiers attacked the people.

“The operation we conducted in the area was carried out in a professional way,” he said.

However, sources from Agatu, who spoke to Punch on the telephone on Tuesday, explained that six villages - Olegadakolo, Ikpele, Otugologwu, Iwali, Okpanchenyi and Egba - were sacked.

At Egba community, sources said a pregnant woman was hit by a stray bullet, adding that the six villages had been deserted.

This is genocide on our people, as I’m talking to you now, six villages have been sacked, children and women have moved out of the affected villages, while many people have been arrested by the invading soldiers,” a resident of one of the villages who pleaded anonymity said.

The council’s sole administrator, Mr. Mike Inalegwu, also denied the killing of people in Agatu communities but admitted the invasion of military personnel.

“There is no iota of truth in that, no one was killed, the military were only on a mission to recover their arms and ammunition,” he said.

Speaking at a press conference, the commander, 707 Special Forces Brigade, Brig. Gen. Clement Apere, said only one person was arrested

FG closes 20,000 bank accounts, moves N5.2tn into TSA

Since the commencement of the Treasury Single Account in September 2015, over 20,000 accounts with Deposit Money Banks belonging to Ministries, Departments and Agencies have been closed with a total sum of N5.24tn moved into the TSA.
The Accountant General of the Federation, Ali Ahmed Idris, gave the figures on Tuesday in Abuja, while speaking at the opening session of a two day retreat on TSA.

The event which was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir Lawal among other top government officials had as its theme, “One year anniversary of Treasury Single Account: Benefits, challenges and way forward.”

The TSA is a platform which was used by the government to unify all its accounts by ensuring that all monies belonging to the federal government are kept with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The initiative which took off fully in September 2015 had been complied with by over 900 agencies of government.

Since the commencement of the TSA, there had been series of job losses in banks owing to decline in deposits.

But the Accountant-General while speaking at the event described the implementation of the TSA as one of the success stories in the management of public finances.

For instance, he explained that through the policy, the government has been able to block leakages and abuse which had characterised the public sector before its commencement in October 2015.

Apart from blocking leakages, Idris said the TSA initiative has assisted the government to overcome the burden of indiscriminate borrowings by MDAs thus saving government a lot of bank charges associated with these borrowings.

For instance, he noted that prior to the full commencement of the TSA, the government was incurring about N4.7bn monthly on bank charges, adding that this has been eliminated through the TSA initiative.

He said, “The TSA journey started way back in April 2012. That journey could not see the light of the day as no significant gains were recorded largely due to the lack of political will.

“However, the issuance of TSA circular in August, 2015, coupled with the political will and enforcement, enabled us to achieve considerable progress on the TSA implementation.

“As at the 10th of February,2017, the total inflow of funds through the mop-up and direct debits by the Central Bank of Nigeria amounted to N5.24trn.

“We have successfully eliminated multiple banking arrangements, resulting into consolidation of over 20,000 bank accounts, which were spread over Deposit Money Banks across the country.

“This has further brought about transparency and effective tracking of government revenues.”
