Michelle Obama Used IVF To Conceive Daughters After Heartbreaking Miscarriage

Michelle Obama has revealed that her daughters were conceived using IVF. The former First Lady of the United States and her husband Barack Obama looked for professional help after she suffered a miscarriage 20 years ago.

Admitting she felt 'lost and alone' after the tragedy, she told Good Morning America she thought she'd "failed because I didn't know how common miscarriages were because we don't talk about them."

“We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken," she said.

"I think it's important to talk to young mothers about the fact that miscarriages happen.

“That's one of the reasons why I think it's important to talk to young mothers about the fact that miscarriages happen.”

She and her husband subsequently 'had to do IVF' to conceive Sasha, 17, and Malia, 20, and Michelle details her fertility battle in her new memoir, Becoming.

It was between the ages of 34 and 35 that Michelle says she first realised, 'the biological clock is real,' and that 'egg production is limited'.
