The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that they have arrested a middle aged woman who allegedly engaged the services of professional assassins to murder her husband and father of her 4 children.

Fatai Owoseni, Lagos State Commissioner of Police who confirmed the incident, said the woman was among 25 suspected criminals arrested by the command in two weeks.

Owoseni refused to disclose the identity of the woman, saying it would jeopardize investigation, but affirmed that the hired assassins had confessed to the crime.

“He said that the woman paid him N600 ,000 to eliminate her husband. We are currently on the trail of the assassins,” he said, explaining that the woman was picked up after a suspect was arrested and he named her as the person who contracted him to kill her husband.

N270m Used To Clear Grass At IDPs Camps

House of Representatives committee investigating alleged diversion of funds and materials meant for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS), especially the alleged use of N270m just to clear grass by the office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) said it was being frustrated by the refusal of the SGF, Mr Babachir Lawal to appear before it.

The committee particularly decried the failure of Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal, to honour summon to him to appear and clarify some issues on the allegation.

The Committee on IDPs and the North-East Initiatives, mandated by the house to investigate the allegation had invited Lawal to explain how his office spent about N12 billion allocated for the IDPs’ challenges.

The committee is also investigating the expenditure of N270 million by the Presidential Initiative on the North-East (PINE) “on just clearing of grass’’. Also being probed by house committee is the purported allocation of N188.69 million for Nigerian refugees living in Minawao, Republic of Cameroon‎.

Expressing disappointment with the attitude of the SGF towards the committee, Chairman of the committee, Rep. Sani Zorro, said “The SGF who was slated to have appeared hasn’t showed up.”

“He did not write to intimate us on why his office would not come to explain why issues of internally displaced persons‎ have remained un-encouraging, in spite of the billions of naira claimed to have been spent. “The PINE officials said he’s at the villa.

“But, as the secretary to the government under whose office the rehabilitation of the North-East was placed, we had expected him to come to throw light on the financial expenses made by his office.

“We also expected him to explain the implementation framework being used to spend money.

“We have been inundated by reports of diversion of materials and funds meant for the rehabilitation of the IDPs, and the North-East and the scandal had led to international embarrassment for the country.

“Given the issues of credibility and integrity raised against the agency in charge of the North-East Initiative (PiNE) which falls under the SGF office, we had expected him to respect the invitation.”

However, testifying before the committee members, Executive Secretary in charge of the Presidential Initiative, Mr Umar Gulani, said that N270 million was awarded as contract. He said the contract was for the removal of 250 kilometres of “invasive plant species along river channels and simplified village irrigation scheme (phase II) in Komadugu Basin in Yobe’’.

In reaction, Zorro expressed dissatisfaction with the explanation, saying, “we are of the opinion that the expenditure of the magnitude you have made‎ is not justified.

“It’s not acceptable that you would spend such a huge amount of money on the clearing of weeds while 2.5 million internally displaced victims of terror go hungry. “They have no shelter and medical care.”

The committee, therefore, demanded further details from PINE, to be submitted to it without delay.

An 18-year-old secondary school pupil, Sadiq Adegbite, who allegedly stole N200 from a fellow pupil and used charm to harass other colleagues, was on Thursday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused, a pupil of Junior High School, Ogudu, Lagos, is facing a three counts of conspiracy, stealing and disorderly conduct.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, said the complainant, a 15-year-old student of the school, came to Ogudu Police Station to report the incident.

He said while the complainant was returning from school at Emmanuel Street, Ogudu, he was stopped by the accused and some of his friends now at large.

“They were harassing him and searching his pockets for money and they even beat him up.

“They dispossessed him of his N200 transport fare which was the only money he had in his pocket.

“A senior student came to the complainant’s rescue and the accused brought out some charms from his pocket to scare them before the police came,” he said.

Ihiehie told the court that the accused’s friends ran away on sighting the police.

The offences contravened Sections 166 (d), 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Adegbite, however, pleaded not guilty.

His counsel, Olusegun Aghahowa, pleaded with the court to grant him bail on liberal terms considering his age.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, admitted the accused to a bail of N10, 000 with two sureties, one of who must be a blood relative of the accused with an evidence of gainful employment.
The case was adjourned to November 1 for trial.

"We didn’t torture Baba Suwe" —NDLEA

Image result for ndlea and baba suwe
The National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency has said that its operatives did not subject popular actor, Babatunde Omidina, to physical torture during the period he was incarcerated by the agency for allegedly being in possession of hard drugs

The Head, Public Affairs of the NDLEA, Mr, Mitchell Ofoyeju, in an interview with PUNCH on Thursday, reacted to an allegation by Nollywood actor, Yomi Fabiyi, that Baba Suwe’s health had deteriorated due to torture at the agency.
Fabiyi had, in a statement posted on Instagram on Wednesday, claimed that Baba Suwe told him that he could no longer walk properly because a pipe was inserted in his anus during the period that he was detained by the NDLEA.
“He told me that he could no longer feel comfortable since that episode. Baba Suwe can hardly walk properly as I speak, let alone go to film. How will he feed and take care of the children that Aunty Moladun left behind?
“He told me when I visited him that he was innocent and a long pipe was inserted in his anus. He was detained for too long, among other things, just because he was randomly suspected like every normal person.
“Torture is criminal and sinful. If this accusation is found to be true by independent investigators, it shouldn’t go unpunished,” he had said.
But Ofoyeju dismissed the actor’s claims as false, saying, “The NDLEA did not torture Baba Suwe. If he was tortured, he would have said it himself.  This is just an unfounded rumour on the social media and it should be disregarded.
“As a matter of fact, Baba Suwe was given the best treatment. We treated him with due regard to the requirement of fundamental human rights globally. He was talking to his relatives and lawyer. He was never kept in a prison for the period that he stayed here because he was virtually under our observation.”
Also, regarding Fabiyi’s claim that the NDLEA failed to obey a court order to pay Baba Suwe the sum of  N25m in damages, the spokesman said that the agency was not obliged to obey the order since a substantive ruling by the Court of Appeal had directed  it not to pay the actor.
“If Baba Suwe had gone to the Supreme Court, perhaps his case would have been upheld. But he did not do so,” Ofoyeju said.

"Many comedians copy my jokes"— Gandoki

                                          •Gandoki
Popular comedian, Tony Ereku (aka Gandoki), may be described as one of the most accomplished men in Nigeria at the moment, having just set a new world record in stand-up comedy.

The comedian achieved this feat in a performance held at the Exclusive Mansions Hotel in Victoria, Lagos, which lasted from Thursday, September 29 to Saturday, October.
Remarking that no other comedian has ever broken the record before now, in a telephone interview with our correspondent, he says, “My performance covered a total of 42 hours, 12 seconds. It started at about 8pm on Thursday and ended around 1pm on Saturday. I beat a previous record set by an American comedian.”
He achieved the feat in the presence of a delegation from the Guinness Book of Records. The performance was streamed live before a global audience between last Thursday and Saturday.
Gandoki says there was no contest and that he put up the performance intentionally, after several months of planning and practice, just to break the record set by the American.
While preparing for the task, he focused on the basic details, such as how to stand on his feet for so many hours at a stretch, how to continue talking without a pause and more important, how to sustain the attention of his audience.
Our correspondent gathered that many of the comedian’s colleagues were also in attendance. One of them was so awed by his performance, especially the spontaneity of the jokes, that he confessed, much later, that about 70 per cent of other stand-up comedians in Nigeria always recycled Gandoki’s jokes.
“A colleague said that in my presence, not me. But I was surprised to learn this,” Gandoki recalls.
Some of the other comedians who witnessed Gandoki ‘dethrone’ the American comedian include Ali Baba, Bovi, Kofi, Seyilaw, Ushbebe and Shakara, to mention a few.
Also, describing the solo performance as very challenging, the comedian says,  “One of the rules was that I should never pause. Even if I did, it must not be up to one minute. I was expected to keep talking and I did. Also, I was only allowed a break once and it was for 16 minutes.”
Interestingly, he admits that he did not rehearse any joke for the event before going on stage last Thursday, “Apart from concentrating on how to stay awake and to make my audience laugh while it lasted, I didn’t prepare any special joke. But the jokes kept coming and tumbling out of my mouth,” he says.
Explaining what motivated him to undertake such a challenging task, he says, “When I looked at my career and my past  performances, particularly at the annual comedy event, Night of A Thousand Laughs, it occurred to me that I had covered a total of about 148 hours between 1998 and 2016.”
The comedian also notes that his performance was aided by his penchant for spontaneous jokes and the habit of adapting his performance to any environment that he finds himself.
Commenting on the feat, Ali Baba says, “It will open the minds of comedians, especially those who are feeding off their colleagues’ jokes, to the fact they can tell jokes as long as they are talented and spontaneous. The only way to go is to be original.”
Also, Bovi notes that Gandoki’s record-breaking performance has shown he is one of the greatest comedians of all time. “The quality of his performance is the real record. No minute passed without him saying something that elicited laughter. He is a spirit,” he says.

‘Gospel Singer’ caught stealing SUV at Winners’ church

When 22-year-old Mr. Samuel Sunday walked into the Living Faith Church, popularly known as ‘Winners Chapel,’ located at Sango-Otta, Ogun State, last week Sunday, many thought he came to worship God.

Nobody knew he came into the worship centre to steal a car. Thus, while others were singing and praising God, Sunday was frantically searching for the perfect vehicle to steal.
The perfect vehicle would be one, whose owner forgot the gate pass inside the car. Whenever church members were driving into the church premises, security guards at the gate would give them a gate pass.

Nobody is allowed to drive in or out of the church premises without the gate pass. Sunday was almost giving up hope of ever finding the perfect car, when he chanced on a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).

The owner, apparently in a hurry, left the gate pass in the car. The hunter crowed joyfully. He had
successfully broken into the car and was struggling to undo the security device of the car, in order to turn on the ignition, when a woman sighted and watched him.

When he noticed the woman, he smiled sheepishly, grimaced at himself and said: “I have lost my car key.” He didn’t know the woman was the owner of the car.

Needless to say, Sunday was whisked away by policemen from Obasanjo Police Station, Ogun State.

After his arrest, Sunday blamed everything on his action, including his father’s early demise and devil. The police said:

“Sunday broke one of the rear glasses of the SUV and forced himself into the driver’s seat. He was battling with the security device in the vehicle, when he was discovered.”
The owner of the car, who refused to give her name, said:
“It happened last week Sunday. We had just finished the fourth service and decided to eat at the restaurant. We were still at the restaurant, when one of our neighbours called that we should wait for him. He said he wanted to drive home with us. I told one of my daughters to go and wait for our neighbour at the point we parked our car. When she got there, she saw the young man and rushed back to tell us.”
The woman continued:
“Initially, the suspect didn’t know that the vehicle was ours. He told us that he owned the vehicle and that he had lost his key.”
Sunday, who claimed to be 19-year-old and later 22, described himself as a gospel singer. He also described himself as an undergraduate and a driver. He said:
“I don t know what came over me. I wanted to take the vehicle home. It has been long I left home. I’m behaving this way because my father died when I was very young.
I have not gone to my mother’s house in Lamgbasa, Ajah for some time. I have been staying with my nephew. I wanted to go back home with the vehicle.”
A police source at Obasanjo Police Station, said:
“The suspect is a car thief ! We recovered wraps of Indian hemp from him. He went to the church just for the purpose of stealing a car from the park.
We found out that he had moved round the parking lot before he finally saw the SUV. The owner left the gate pass inside the vehicle. He wouldn’t have been allowed to drive the vehicle out of the premises without the gate pass.

Paedophile found with 137,000 indecent images spared jail to start a family

A paedophile who was caught with over 137,000 indecent images of children has been spared jail because he wants to start a family.
Richard Arrowsmith, was facing up to five years in prison but was let-off with a suspended sentence after telling a judge he wanted to become a father.

The 41-year-old was arrested after police received a tip off in February that an IP address linked to his Sky account was used to download the pictures.

Officers executed a warrant at his home and seized a computer, external hard drive, laptop, mobile phone and USB sticks on April 19 this year.

A court heard a police computerised scanning system flagged up at least 10,000 indecent images and videos on the devices.

But a large number couldn’t be categorised due to the sheer amount of movies and pictures - including 4,336 videos and 137,000 images.

Arrowsmith, of Derbyshire pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images and videos of children when he appeared at Derby Crown Court on Wednesday

But he was spared jail after a judge heard he was hoping to start a family with his wife, who continues to support him.

Sentencing Arrowsmith to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years, Recorder Martin Butterworth, said:

“You are 41-years-old, with no previous convictions and you pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.
There are three charges against you in relation to the possession of indecent images of children.
I am taking into consideration your previous good character, you have a wife who supports you, a steady employment and your hopes to start a family in the near future.
These are not victimless crimes, they encourage serious abuse of sometimes very young children.
You were less than honest about the nature of the images.”
Arrowsmith was ordered to pay £250 costs and carry out 160 hours of unpaid work as well as being made the subject of a curfew restricting him from leaving his house between 7pm and 5am.

He is also banned from working with children and was ordered to sign the sexual offenders register.

The court heard police found 400 videos in Category A, which is the worst, with another 255 films in Category B and 186 films and 851 images in Category C.

Overall there were 1,692 movies and images ranging from Category A to C as well as the 4,336 videos and 137,000 images that remained uncategorised.

After he was arrested Arrowsmith admitted to viewing and downloading indecent images of children for “four or so years”.

But he told police officers he had never distributed or made any images or videos.

Digby Johnson, defending, told the court Arrowsmith and his wife, who was not present in court, were trying for children and wanted to start a family.
