FG, EFCC Wants To Kill Fani Kayode-PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has released a statement on Fani Kayode’s re-arrest saying the APC led Federal Government and the EFCC wants the former Minister dead. The statement released this morning reads:
“It is common knowledge that in furtherance of its campaign of attrition against members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the guise of an anti-corruption war, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, former Spokesperson for the PDP Presidential Campaign Organization (PDPPCP) was arrested in the premises of the Federal High Court, Lagos.
“His re-arrest is the latest in a series of plans designed to further harass and intimidate our members and supporters using the security and intelligence apparatus of the Nigerian State.
“A few days before his arrest his wife, Precious Chikwendu and their 8 month old son, Aragorn, were arrested and would have been detained but for the timely intervention of Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State.
“What is not common knowledge is that at the time of his arrest, Chief Fani-Kayode was ill and taking medication. Since his arrest, he has been denied access to his medication and medical doctors who are conversant with his medical history.
“As at the time of writing this statement, officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have continued to deny Chief Fani-Kayode access to his medication.
“The only conclusion that can be reached is that the APC-led Federal Government and EFCC want Chief Fani-Kayode to die in EFCC detention. In the light of the prevailing circumstances where EFCC are detaining an obviously weak and ill man, this is an inescapable conclusion.
“These continuous violations of the constitutional rights and freedoms of the Nigerian people by the Buhari Administration must stop. The Federal Government cannot, and must not, be allowed to continually infringe on the rights of the very people it swore to uphold.
“We call on all well-meaning Nigerians to urge the Federal Government to desist from its path of human rights abuses.”
Tension As Over 200 Herdsmen With Families, Cattle Arrive In Enugu Community
Tension and protest, yesterday, greeted the arrival and settlement of over 200 herdsmen and their cows at Agu Obodo, Obeagwu Ozalla in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The protesting community members said they were overwhelmed by over five trucks that off-loaded the herdsmen, their families and cows in the community and is asking the herdsmen to leave their land within three days as their people can no longer go to their farms.
President-General of Ozalla Development Union, ODU, Chief Afam Ani, who led the protesting women, youths and traditional rulers yesterday, said the herdsmen’s arrival, weekend, caused considerable anxiety and panic in the town, with his people living nearest to farm settlements abandoning their farms and dwellings and taking refuge in other parts of the town.
Ani narrated to newsmen that the herdsmen claimed they were evicted from their previous settlements at Maryland in Enugu South Local Government Area and decided to resettle in Ozalla.
He said they had informed security agencies, the local and state governments to help them evict the herdsmen, citing an ugly experience the community had with the herdsmen in 2012, when they attacked, raped and destroyed properties in the community.
The President-General disclosed that the herdsmen agreed to vacate the community within three days, but that he is pleading with the security agencies to help enforce the agreement.
A traditional ruler of one of the autonomous communities in Ozalla, Igwe C. O. Okafor, described the development as embarrassing, adding that they were not consulted by either the herdsmen or by any proxy before the invasion
in Badagry, 48-Year Old Man Hands Over Family To Son Before Committing Suicide
A 48-year-old man, Segla Hunvu, has committed suicide in the Mowo, Badagry area of Lagos State.
It was learnt that Hunvu, who stayed on Jogbenu Street, Torikovi Town, Mowo, was found dangling with a rope around his neck on Thursday.
A relation, who did not want his name in print, told Punch Metro that Hunvu had informed his eldest son, a few days to the incident, to take care of himself and his younger ones.
He said, “Hunvu came to the Ajegunle, Apapa area on Monday to see his younger brother, Michael Hunvu. We did not know he came to bid us farewell. He had earlier told his eldest son, who is a teenager, to take good care of himself and his younger ones.
“He did not come out clearly to say he wanted to kill himself. Nobody knew the reason he killed himself. It is suspected that he was frustrated.”
Punch Metro learnt that Michael reported the matter at the Morogbo Police Division.
A police source told a Punch correspondent that after Hunvu left the Ajegunle area, he entered his house when his children were not around and hanged himself in a room in the house.
He said, “The children tried reaching him on the telephone, but calls made to him did not connect.
“It was after some days that his body was found in the room.”
Punch learnt that policemen, who visited Hunvu’s apartment, found him hanging from the rope, took photographs and deposited the corpse in a morgue.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that the family members had requested the corpse for burial.

Arase dares New Police IG: Publish number plates of missing police vehicles
The immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, has faulted claims that 19 assorted vehicles, belonging to the Nigeria Police Force, were recovered from him.
He also raised the alarm that some forces were bent on tarnishing his image, challenging his critics to make public the number plates of such recovered vehicles and where they were recovered from.
Arase, in a statement he signed in Abuja on Monday, warned that he would not hesitate to seek legal redress if those desperate to tarnish his image failed to desist.
His reaction came on the heels of a similar allegation on July 18, which followed a media report that 19 out of 24 vehicles he allegedly took away upon retirement had been recovered from him.
Arase said, “It is embarrassing for me to wake up on Monday morning to be inundated with calls and messages on the purported 19 vehicles recovered from me. I wish to reassure the general public that there was nothing like that. Like I said in July, I did not take any police vehicle with me outside what I was entitled to, and so, there couldn’t have been any vehicle recovered from me.
“If there was any of such, those behind this campaign of calumny should please make the number plates of the vehicles public and where they were recovered from.
“Rather than dissipating so much energy on ‘project drag Arase down’, I urge those behind this evil campaign to face their official responsibility for which much is expected from them by the nation.
“I have done my bit and my own records bear me witness. Let those daily frightened by the shadow of Arase learn to face reality and stop chasing shadows so that they are not hunted by same.”
After a head injury, Nigerian teen wakes up from coma speaking fluent Spanish

A Georgia teenager who suffered a life-threatening head injury last month while playing soccer awoke from a coma speaking fluent Spanish for the first time in his life.

Rueben Nsemoh, 16, originally from Nigeria, shocked family members and doctors when he opened his eyes after a three-day coma and began uttering sentences in Spanish, despite having known only a few words before his accident.
“It started flowing out. I felt like it was like second nature for me. I wasn’t speaking my English right, and every time I tried to speak it I would have a seizure. It was weird. It was not scary at all. I actually liked it a lot. It was really unique to me," the teen told TIME on Monday.
Another teenager accidentally kicked Rueben on the right side of his head during a game on Sept. 24 after Rueben dove for a loose ball. The aspiring professional soccer player, suffered a severe concussion, went into shock and had to be airlifted to a hospital, according to his mother, Dorah Nsemoh.
Days after being treated in the intensive care unit, Rueben finally started stirring again. He began moving his hand and gesturing for food. And then he blurted out: “Tengo hambre,” or “I am hungry” in Spanish.
Doctors have not told the family why Rueben woke up speaking perfect Spanish, although they have sought consultation with a neurologist, but a similar case was diagnosed as foreign accent syndrome, a very rare condition in which people speak with a different accent, usually after head trauma or stroke, according to CNN.
Rueben says he could recite just a few phrases in Spanish before his accident. The only ways he had heard Spanish were from his brother, who had previously studied in Spain, and his Spanish-speaking teammates.
In the weeks after the accident, Rueben gradually recovered the ability to speak English, and now he speaks both languages fluently, although he says the Spanish has begun to fade

The Commissioner of Police in charge of Abia State Police Command, Adeleye Oyebade, on Monday paraded a suspected rapist, identified as Emeka Asibiriobwu, who was accused of defiling a two-year-old girl kept under his care.
Oyebade said the suspect was arrested by the officers of the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Umuahia. He said the suspect, who was still being investigated by policemen had raped the girl at Oriendu, a suburb of the state capital.
The Commissioner said, “The suspect was arrested when the mother of the victim raised the alarm on sighting her daughter crying, while blood and fluid were gushing out of her private parts.
“The victim was taken to a hospital where the rape case was established. The suspect has confessed to the crime and will be arraigned in court after the conclusion of police investigation.”
BFani Kayode Slumped In EFCC Custody- Media Aide
A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, slumped in the custody of the Economic
and Financial Crimes Commission.
The Special Assistant to Fani-Kayode on Media, Jude Ndukwe, raised the alarm in a statement On Monday night. Ndukwe said Fani Kayode slumped in the custody of the EFCC on Saturday.
Operatives of the EFCC had last Friday re-arrested Fani-Kayode outside the premises of the Federal High Court on Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Fani-Kayode was picked up after attending his trial over an alleged fraud of N4.9bn before Justice Muslim Hassan.
He was arrested as soon as he stepped out of the courtroom after the judge had adjourned further proceedings in his trial till November 14 and 15, 2016.
Ndukwe said in the statement that his boss had been on medication.
He said, “Although Chief Femi Fani-Kayode had yet to complete the recovery therapy he was undergoing after spending the initial 67 gruelling days in the EFCC custody wherein he was also physically attacked by one of the commission’s agents, in deference to the law and the Commission, he painfully but willingly cut short his therapy and medical checks to attend court proceedings.
“One would have thought that these were enough to convince EFCC that Fani-Kayode was very willing to face his persecutors in court. But rather than be humane in their conduct,
the EFCC hounded him for the umpteenth time on that fateful Friday and have since kept him in custody.
“It is, therefore, little wonder that based on the history of his medical condition which the commission is very much aware of, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode slumped while in detention on Saturday, October 22, 2016.
See Workers Of Pharmaceutical Company Steal Drugs Worth N56m
The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, has arrested three workers of Peakins Pharmaceutical Company Limited, Lagos, for allegedly stealing drugs estimated at N56m. The suspects are Emmanuel Okechukwu, Ikechukwu Orji and Chisom Azubuke.
Two others, who were estate security guards, Uchechukwu Ofoepeka and Goddy Ogobi, were named as accomplices.
Punch Metro learnt that the owner of the company, Isaac Ugwu, had caught one of the workers, Okechukwu, with a carton of a drug valued at N400,000.
The suspect was allegedly taking it away from the company’s warehouse on Plot C, Mobolaji Johnson Estate, Lekki, Lagos, when he was caught.
Ugwu was said to have reported the matter at the zone 2 command through a petition to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Abdulmajid Ali.
The case was subsequently transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit of the command.
A Punch correspondent learnt that in the course of investigation, Okechukwu mentioned the names of the other workers and estate guards as accomplices.
The zone 2 command spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the confession led to the arrest of the other suspects.
He said, “Upon interrogation, all the suspects confessed to the crime and revealed that the nefarious act had been going on since May 2016.
“It was discovered that about 102 cartons of LORNAT DS tablets, valued at N39.7m; 200 cartons of FUNBACT ‘A’ valued at about N16m; and five cartons of PAALAXIN tablets valued at N200,000, totalling about N55,980,000 had been stolen from the company.”
Adejobi, a Superintendent of Police, said the suspects had been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on two counts of conspiracy and stealing, contrary to sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Sola Adeoye, admitted them to bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties each in like sum.

Ex-Minister of FCT, Bala Mohammed, Arrested By EFCC
A former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
As at the time of reporting on Monday night, he was already in detention at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja. A source at the anti-corruption agency said: “Yes, we have him in our custody.”
