11 Feared Dead As Police, Armed Hunters Clash In Ibadan

                         
As much as eleven people reportedly lost their lives in Ogbere Onilanta in Ona-Ara area of Oyo state yesterday as policemen and local hunters popularly called “Agbekoya” clashed.

As gun shots rented the air from different direction, many residents scampered for safety.

It was gathered that about 40 local hunters exchanged gunfire with policemen and attempted to break into the police armoury.

Some residents claimed 11 people died, including hunters and policemen. But police said only one person died.

A source said the fight started when the police insisted on checking the hunters’ convoy. The police accused them of over speeding and reckless driving.

The situation later degenerated. Attempts by the hunters to seize the Ogbere Police station and its armoury was foiled by armed security men.

Motorists were also barred from passing through the area as the road was cordoned off.

It was gathered the hunters were coming from Lagos to Akanran community for a meeting.

An eyewitness, who identified himself as Isiaka, told The Nation that, “The men were coming in some vehicles, including a black Toyota Pathfinder.

“Some policemen, who were at the checkpoint in front of their station, stopped them and challenged them for driving recklessly. One of the hunters got down and started arguing with the police.

“He slapped the policeman. Later, we started hearing gunshots. There was shooting from both sides.
“The crisis was so much that everybody started running to avoid being caught in the fire.”

Some workers at the Elekuro High School close to the scene reported that some policemen rushed into the compound and removed their uniforms.

About an hour later, the hunters fled the scene and abandoned their vehicle. More policemen and men of the Operation Burst were drafted in the area.

In his reaction, Police spokesman Adekunle Ajisebutu said the shot hunter was only injured. He said:

"Some robbery suspects, identified as Agbekoya militants in three vehicles, attacked policemen on stop-and-search duty at Ogbere and attempted to snatch a rifle from a policeman. 

“The bandits were repelled. The hoodlums fled, only to regroup and attack the Ogbere Police Station, advancing to the armoury, shooting their way in. 

“The police again repelled their attack and in the process one hoodlum was fatally injured. 

“Two suspects were arrested. The injured suspect died on the way to hospital. Items recovered from the hoodlums include: five cut- to- size locally-made gun, 103 cartridges and assorted charms. 

“A Sports Utility Van (SUV) was seized. The arrested suspects have made confessions and are helping the police in their investigation.”

Tinubu Is Not Sick; Senator Afikuyomi Bash Solomon Lalong

                          

Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, a close ally of APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has refuted the claim by Plateau State Governor, Solomon Lalong, that the respected political leader is sick.

Lalong had claimed that Tinubu was absent at the last Saturday’s Ondo state APC governorship rally in Akure because of ill-health.

But in a press release issued in Lagos on Tuesday, Afikuyomi described the claim credited to Lalong as absolutely incorrect.

Afikuyomi, who said he travelled to the United States of America with Tinubu to witness the recent US elections, said the Asiwaju "is in a remarkable state of mental and physical wellness.”

He said, “It is therefore absolutely incorrect and most embarrassing for anyone to attempt to invent such a laughable reason for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s absence at the rally. The fact that somebody went for medical check-up does not mean he is ill.

“In the likely event that Asiwaju, like all mortals, was ill at all, I doubt if Mr. Lalong would be the first to know by reason of relationship, proximity and trust.

“Prominent politicians like the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, have been speaking with Tinubu. Governor Amosun particularly communicated with him a day before the Ondo rally and he can never claim not to have spoken with him. I have also remained in constant touch with Asiwaju Tinubu since my arrival in Nigeria. We speak daily as a matter of fact.”

Comedian SeyiLaw attacked By Hoodlum

                            

Just when everyone is rejoicing with popular comedian, Oluwaseyitan Aletile, aka Seyilaw on the arrival of his baby girl after five years of a childless marriage, he narrowly escaped death in Lagos on Tuesday November 22.

According to the ace comedian in the post he shared on Instagram some hours ago, hoodlums attacked him on Lagos Island and he was almost killed.

He narrated: “God is indeed God of all.

Let me just thank God for seeing me through all the challenges of the past month. Friends have not been able to get through to me due to the tedious schedules and happenings.

Finally, today I thought I was going home and having tomorrow all to myself to rest and catch up with friends only to have my car breakdown at Apongbon and some hoodlums attacked stabbing my friend in multiple places just because they wanted phones and money.

Notorious thief who uses Special Device to steal cars busted; see him smiling

A car thief, who uses a device he called ‘Try Your Luck Key’ to steal vehicles from where they are parked, has landed in the net of the Nigeria Police Force, Enugu command.

The suspect, Ikechukwu Isaiah, hails from Abia State but resides in New Nyanya, Nasarawa State.

The police had been on Ikechukwu's trail since August, when he stole a Toyota Camry.

According to Southern City News, Ikechukwu stole the vehicle from where it was parked at Otigba junction in Enugu. He committed the crime on the same day he arrived Enugu from Abuja.

The spokesman, Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said Ikechukwu stole the car shortly after the commercial transit bus which brought him to Enugu dropped him at Otigba junction in the early hours.

Amaraizu added that the suspect had changed the colour and registration number of the stolen vehicle before he was arrested in Nasarawa State.

Isaiah’s arrest was made possible by intelligence information from the New Haven Division of the Enugu State Police Command, according to Amaraizu.

The police spokesman said, “The suspect specialised in stealing cars from where they are parked, using a key he referred to as Try Your Luck Key."

Ikechukwu, who is currently in police custody in Enugu, is assisting in the ongoing investigations into his nefarious activities, according to Amaraizu.

"To say the least, the news did not only grossly misinform unsuspecting public; it also portrays traces of campaign of calumny by some mercenary hirelings hell bent in destroying my name, for reasons best known to them.

"I want to state here categorically and emphatically that though I was at Computer Village to address some issues, but I was never arrested for stealing 10 I phone 7s, as stated by the writer of the story, the matter has since been resolved by the Nigeria Police; and the issue of me stealing phone is devilish from the said writer.

Staff destroy properties of Federal Poly Ado-Ekiti over fraud

Some members of staff and management of the Federal Polytechnic in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital were seen destroying the school properties during an action packed protest.

The crux of their protest is the Rector's alleged massive fraud of about N131million and promotional allowances. Some of the workers who spoke exclusively to Metro Naija said the Rector denied them of their full basic salaries, hence their action. More pics below...

AY Makun breaks own Guinness World record with ‘A Trip to Jamaica’

"A Trip to Jamaica", a movie by comedian, Ayo Makun, popularly called AY, has beaten the box office revenues of all the big budget Hollywood and Nollywood titles released in 2016 here in Nigeria.

Just last week, AY told the media that he remains confident the financial situation of the Nigerian economy will have little or no effect on his 2016 movie ‘A Trip To Jamaica’

AY had every reason to stay positive as the movie which premiered on September 30, 2016, has grossed over 137million Naira, and counting to smash the Guinness world record of “30 Days in Atlanta”, a previous movie produced by him.

The story I just received about big boy Seun Egbegbe is very embarrassing...

According to Bode X, Toyin Aimakhu’s ex-boyfriend Seun Egbegbe was caught in computer village while trying to run away with stolen iPhones. 

"Eye witnesses said he came into Keelcech Innovations store in computer village, took two latest iPhone7 and seven iPhone6 plus and told the sales girl he is/was coming and then crossed to enter a taxi.

It was after he left it done on one of the sales rep that someone packed phones so they rushed and caught up with the thief and behold it was Seun Egbegbe. 

In the process, he gave one of his staff the latest iPhone 7 and that staff escaped but Seun was caught. 

He was beaten and he begged that nobody should take his picture. He has been taken to the police station. 

MORE: Further reports from Porsche and I-Reporter revealed that Egbegbe went to Computer Village with some guys in a jeep around 10:30am pretending that he wanted to buy 7 iPhone 6s and 2 iPhone 7 mobile phones. He went into the phone store ‘Kaalcech Innovations and Consultancy’ located on number 9 medical road, computer village, Ikeja and requested for nine iPhones. He pretended to be ready for payment after the phones were delivered to him only for him to elope into the waiting jeep before the the sales girl screamed for help. The noise which attracted sympathizers, helped as they gave Egbegbe a hot chase and eventually caught up with him before he could find his way out of computer village. 

He was beaten by the angry mob before the store’s MD, Mr Kolawole Aleshinloye quickly informed the police who came and whisked him away to Area F Police station where he’s been detained."

Mother cries for justice over beheading of her 3 children

The bereaved mother, who narrated her story in Tiv told the Vanguard she has only one child left.
She said the three slain children were her 10-year-old girl, identified as Terdor, who is also the eldest; 8-year-old Terna Embelga, a boy; and another girl, Sulumshima Embelga, 6.

According to her, the three of them went to have their bath in a nearby stream called Jookwa alongside eight other children in the evening of October 30.

She narrated, “When they (all the 11 children) finished swimming, they decided to fetch water with their buckets for their use at home.

“On their homeward journey along the bush path, two men suddenly emerged from a farm rice and grabbed one of my three children in the group by the neck.

“While the other children in the group threw away the buckets of water they were carrying amid the ambush and ran for their dear lives, my two other children decided to fight back and rescue their sibling from the assailants.

“The escaped children brought the news home. Immediately, my husband, fellow villagers and I mobilised to the scene of the attack where we found the headless bodies of the three children in the pool of their blood. It was horrifying.

“Beholding the headless bodies, I thought I would die. There were other items lying on the ground at the scene of the crime.

“The items include a weird looking cap, substances believed to be hard drugs and a blood stained shirt.

“We didn’t see the heads of the children. They may have been taken away for ritual purposes.

“I had four children. With three of them killed in cold blood, I am left with only one that I am breastfeeding. It all shows the seriousness of the insecurity in the land.”

Taraba State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP David Misal, confirmed the incident and said the command was investigating the crime, adding that no arrest has been made so far.

Fashola Warns DISCOS: Stop Blackmailing Federal Government

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has warned electricity distribution firms (DISCos) to stop blackmailing the Federal Government. He said they should prove how much Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are owing each of them.

Responding to the newspaper advertorials that the DisCos have been running under its umbrella body, Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), he said the group was being economical with the truth.

He accused ANED of failing to tell Nigerians that each of the DisCos has not presented the alleged debt profile to the Federal Government.

Fashola spoke at the monthly power sector meeting in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. He insisted that debts are paid by quantification but not by estimation.

He reminded them that the privatisation exercise that handed over the assets to the power companies was between the government and each separate DisCos and not through an association.

Kanye West Hospitalised After Cancelling His Concert

Looks like Kanye West was really exhausted, which was why he cancelled the rest of his concert and agreed to refund ticket money to his fans who had bought tickets for the concert.

Reports have it that he has been hospitalised in Los Angeles after abruptly cancelling the remaining dates of his national tour.

His action followed days of erratic behaviour, during which West ranted onstage about Jay Z and Beyoncé and walked offstage after just three songs.

Reports claim that the Los Angeles police responded to a medical welfare call at 1.20PM (U.S West Coast Time). West was transported via ambulance, and had to be restrained for refusing to go.

Sources said that no criminal activity was involved; and that the decision to hospitalize West was for ‘his own health and safety’, adding that he was stressed and exhausted.

Kalu Joining APC Is A Big Plus For Our Party – Okorocha

                           
Governor Rochas Okorocha has said the defection of former Abia State Governor Orji Uzor Kalu to the ruling All Progressives Congress is a good development for the party and the South-East.

The governor regretted that although he had been persuading the Igbo, especially political leaders in the zone to join APC, but he was blackmailed and called names.

He said current events in the country had exonerated him and shown that he was not just wasting his time. Okorocha noted that with the likes of Kalu now in the APC, the development of Igbo land under the party would be easier.

He said: “Orji Kalu as an illustrious Igbo son is a political asset any political party would like to have in its fold.”

Okorocha urged other frontline Igbo politicians to follow the Kalu’s example.

He expressed delight that Igbo political leaders had begun to respond positively to his clarion call to join APC “where the action is taking place now and will continue to take place with good leadership which the party is determined to offer Nigerians.”

Okorocha said there were no old members and new members in APC because all the members were equal in their membership.
