Abuja Hospital Abandons Accident Victim Over N3,500

I don't know maybe government should be giving hospitals some grant to enable them be attending to accident and other victims of emergencies, before struggling for money.

An accident victim, James Omase, was reportedly refused medical attention for 3 hours on Saturday by the Kubwa General Hospital, Abuja, over his inability to pay a N3,500 bill immediately.

Omase, pictured above, was taken to the hospital around 6pm but the medical personnel refused to attend to him until around 9pm, when his employer showed up and paid the bill.

Imagine what would have happened if they couldn't make it that night.

The 20-year old was riding a motorcycle along Arab Road, Kubwa, when another rider rammed into him, causing him to fall and sustain injuries.

The man, who worked as a security guard in a residential building, lost two teeth and also sustained an injury on his upper lips, had bruises on his head, right upper arm and on both hands.

Omase told Northern City News that he offered the nurses the N2,500 on him but they declined to accept it, insisting that he would not be treated until he paid the full amount.

He said, “I was involved in the accident around 5pm but nobody took me to the hospital till 6pm. I was on the ground in pains and people were passing by, nobody volunteered to take me to the hospital.

“It was a friend who saw me lying along the road, that took me to the hospital. But when I got there, the nurses said they won’t attend to me until I paid N3,500 for treatment. I told them I had N2,500 but they refused to accept it or attend to me.

“I was lying on a bench in pains for many hours. It was a neighbour, who learnt I was involved in an accident, that went to inform my employers, who came to the hospital around 9pm and paid the money before I was treated.”

The acting Secretary, Federal Capital Territory Hospital Management Board, Mrs. Alice Odey-Achu, expressed disappointment over the conduct of the nurses, saying their action was unacceptable.

She promised to get in touch with the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, insisting that all public hospitals were supposed to attend to emergency cases, with or without payment by the patient.

Trump Claims Millions Voted Illegally In Presidential Poll

US President-elect Donald Trump has asserted he won the popular vote on 8 November "if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally".

The Republican, who won the all-important electoral college count, offered no evidence to back his claim.

It comes after the camp of Democratic rival Hillary Clinton said it would support a vote recount in Wisconsin initiated by a Green Party candidate.

Mrs Clinton won about two million votes more than Mr Trump in the popular vote.

However, Mr Trump surpassed the required 270 electoral votes to win the presidency. This was based on the state-by-state contests.

A widow, Mrs. Florence Ede, has been strangled by suspected robbers on her farm in Chikanda, a border community in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The deceased, popularly known as Mama do good, hailed from Enugu State and was a food seller when she came to the community in 1985, but became a commercial farmer after the death of her husband.
A member of the Igbo community in Chikanda, Mr. Mayor Akonobi, told our correspondent on Sunday that Ede was strangled by the assailants, who had trailed her to the farm.
He said the mother of four had a huge amount of money on her and had wanted to pay the labourers before she was killed.
He stated that the robbers also carted away 12 bags of rice harvested from the victim’s farm.
“The only guard at the farm when the incident occurred ran away when the assailants attacked her,” Akonobi added.
The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the incident, said  the police had commenced investigation into the crime.
“The guard and the labourers have been arrested. They are helping us with our investigation,” he added.

Kashamu Blames Mimiko For PDP’s Failure In Ondo, Drags In Fayose

PDP has lost power in Ondo State and the blame game has started. According to Senator Buruji Kashamu, PDP wouldn’t have lost if Governor Mimiko had listened to them. Part of the statement released by the Senator reads;

“We told Governor Mimiko that after eight years in office,  the good people of Ondo State would resist the injustice of producing a successor from the same senatorial district where he hails from.

“It is not that Jegede is not a good material. He is urbane, intelligent and smart. He would have probably won had he come from any other senatorial zone than Mimiko’s.

“We told Mimiko that the people would not take anything that would look like a third term for him and his senatorial district. He would not listen.

“ Mimiko turned deaf ears to wise counsel, just like he turned his back on all those who helped him to power.

“Despite being the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Mimiko turned himself into Fayose’s puppet, allowing Fayose to lead him by the nose.”

Fraudsters Roaming Lagos Daily For Easy Prey

One of the four suspected fraudsters arrested by Rapid Response Squad of Lagos Police Command, Joseph Onuoha, has revealed that over 40 fraudsters belonging to a syndicate headed by one Toronto are out daily on the Lagos streets, looking for innocent Nigerians to dupe.

40yrs old Onuoha told RRS operatives that Toronto, who is at large, personally trained the members of the syndicate and also rewarded them based on their successes in duping people.

He said, “Anytime we hit jackpot, we would divide our loot into five parts. Toronto would take two parts. Two of us in a team would share two and we would share the remaining part to others.

“Our office in Ajegunle has been busted by the police. Toronto, as I was told, has relocated to somewhere in Surulere. Whenever we have issues with the police, he comes around to secure our bail.”

Onuoha and others were arrested for "swindling" members of the public of various sums of money.

The four suspects – Onuoha, Kenneth Umukoro, 36; Uba Utokcha, 41; and Ikechukwu Okeke, 25 – were picked up separately by the police in connection with three cases of fraud in Maryland, Ojodu Berger and Ajegunle between Tuesday and Thursday last week.

The police said the suspect had individually owned up to the crimes before RRS officers during interrogation.

It was gathered that the syndicate was smashed after two members of the gang allegedly defrauded one Chiwenu Ibeh.

Ibeh told RRS that she was going to Ojodu Berger from Ojota when Umukoro, driving an ash colour Toyota Camry 1997 model with number plate, SMK 886 DK, stopped at the bus stop to pick her.

“He picked another passenger on Kudirat Abiola Way. We were still on Kudirat Abiola Way when the new passenger started a conversation in French language with the driver.

“The driver pleaded that he wanted to take the new passenger to the custom’s office on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, where his goods were seized.

“At the office, the driver, a man that claimed to be a customs agent, a pastor and the goods owner brainwashed me into releasing my Automated Teller Machine card and led me to withdraw the last N9,000 from my account.

“After this, the pastor prayed for me and told me to go home and get more money.”

Ibeh said it was after she left the gang that she came to her senses, adding that a week later, she saw the men again in the Maryland area of Lagos.

“My husband and I were standing at the Maryland bus stop on Thursday when I saw the same Toyota Camry with same number plate and a new driver. However, sitting beside the driver was the former driver that lured me into the fraud, pretending to be a passenger. I alerted RRS officers stationed at Maryland, who arrested them.”

Onuoha and Okeke were arrested separately for similar fraud.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, warned members of the public to be wary of people who offer them spurious deals.

He earns over N120,000 per month! This Accountant faked own kidnap and stole company’s $50,000

An accountant with a lubricant producing firm in Ikoyi, Lagos State, Femi Akinola, has been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing the company’s $50,000.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the company – Eterna Plc – had sent 30-year-old Akinola to withdraw the sum from the United Bank for Africa in the Marina area on Thursday, November 17.
On getting back to the office, he reportedly told his boss that he was kidnapped on the way from the bank, saying  his abductors dispossessed him of the money and his phones.
Our correspondent gathered that Akinola was subsequently arrested by the police.
Police investigation reportedly revealed that he faked his own kidnap.
He was said to have led the operatives to the fence of a primary school in the Bariga area, where $30,000 concealed inside a concrete block was recovered.
While parading the suspect on Friday at the Lagos State Command headquarters in Ikeja, the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said Akinola stripped himself and threw his phones into a river to perfect the ploy.
He said, “The suspect worked with a multinational company in the state. He was sent to withdraw $50,000. After withdrawing the money, he faked his own kidnap and claimed that the kidnappers collected the money.
“The police have been able to recover $30,000. He confessed to have given out $15,000. We are making efforts to recover the remaining sum.”
However, Akinola, who hails from Ondo State, denied feigning his abduction, saying one Kingsley, who purportedly lives in United Kingdom, colluded with a fraudster to swindle him out of the money.
The father of two children said Kingsley’s accomplice hypnotised him, adding that the man had left before it dawned on him that he had been defrauded.
He said, “I am also into music. I used to chat with one Kingsley in the UK, who wanted to help me with my music career. I chatted with him that day and I told him that I just withdrew $50,000. He told me he needed $15,000. He sent somebody to meet me around Marina to collect the money. It was after the person collected the money and my phones and left that I came to my senses.
“I was confused and didn’t know what to do. At that point, I decided to hide the remaining $35,000 at the back of a primary school in Bariga, and left for Epe to commit suicide. On getting there, I changed my mind and reported to the police that I was robbed.”
The suspect stated that he was known for honesty, which had earned him awards from the company every year.
“I earn over N120,000 per month. I didn’t have intention of using the money to promote my music career. That was not the first time I would withdraw money for the company as an accounting officer. I had withdrawn more than that in the past. I have been working with the company for five years,” he added.

How Seun Egbegbe tried to abscond with the phones –Shop owner, eye witnesses

Seun Egbegbe
So many people would have thought that filmmaker, Seun Egbegbe, was perhaps, directing a movie when the  news and pictures hit the internet that he was beaten for absconding with nine iphones at Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos.

Even as Egbegbe has denied the story describing it as “laughable and better left in the court of public opinion”, Saturday Beats visited the market earlier in the week where so many people gave an account of how the incident happened.
The shop, Kaaltech Innovations, has been under lock and key since the incident but when Saturday Beats spoke to the owner of the shop, Kolawole Aleshinloye on telephone, he said he was out of town but the matter was with the police.
“At this point, I am out of town and I told them to lock my store. I came around yesterday and witnessed everything. I put down my statement at Area F Police Command. The case is with the police. I told them to lock my store because my boy was wounded and he is currently at the hospital. My secretary has gone to the police station upon invitation. Anything you want, just go to Area F police command and ask for the IPO in charge.
“My boy was injured because he was being dragged by the car when they were trying to get away with the phones. The guy has written his statement and there is a formal petition from the Nigerian Police. The guy (Egbegbe) had never come to buy anything from my store before now and I don’t know him. I did not see him because I was not at the office but my staff attended to him. They were the one that took him to the police station. I just showed up at the police station but I am not an eye witness.
“I have never been involved in a robbery or theft case and sincerely I don’t know what to do and that is why the police is handling everything. I don’t have the time to handle this type of case. As I speak with you, I am about travelling out of the country. I missed my flight yesterday because of this issue. I was on my way to the airport when this incident happened so if there is anything I need to do, my lawyers would handle the matter. We have an association in Computer Village; Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria; the members of the association were the ones that took him to the police station.”
But then, a shop owner who identified himself as Onyeka, said he witnessed what happened since his shop is directly opposite  the scene of the incident.
Onyeka described Egbegbe as a ‘bloody liar’ for denying that he was involved in the theft.
“I was around when it happened and the man cannot deny it. It happened and the man stole the phones. If it did not happen, why did he have a bloodied mouth? Those guys outside were the ones that beat him but they did not beat him up to stupor, they just ‘touched him small’. At about 11am, the man came to the store claiming that he wanted to buy some phones. He had spoken to the sales girl but all of a sudden, he told them to pack the phones for him and that he would give them the money in his vehicle. As he got to his vehicle, he put the phones in the car and instead of him to bring out the money; he entered the vehicle which was already in motion. He was not alone in the car.
“The sales rep had to raise the alarm that the man was leaving with the goods. An SUV that was in front of his car had to stop to ensure that he did not run away with the phones and that was how they caught up with him and those with him in the vehicle. If the SUV was not there, they would have absconded with the phones because the road was very free. He was already inside the car and the car was in motion. I think there were about two other people in the car with him. The vehicle was in motion and ready to zoom off, yet he claimed that he wanted to give someone money. The police came around and he was handed over to them,” Onyeka said.
Another shop owner who didn’t want his name in print, insisted he saw how Egbegbe rushed to his car with the phones and would have zoomed off.
“This guy is a liar. So is he saying he had over N2m in his car and he was going to bring the money from the car? Why didn’t he bring the money when he entered the shop or even tell the shop attendant to hold the phones while he got the money? The guy really wanted to outsmart the shop attendant but his luck ran out. That way why we beat him silly,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a  release he pushed out after the incident, Egbegbe said, “To say the least, the news did not only grossly misinform unsuspecting public; it also portrays traces of campaign of calumny by some mercenary hirelings hell bent on destroying my name, for reasons best known to them.
“Having read with keen interest the completely self-serving spirited attempt to destroy my person, it has become imperative and timely that a rejoinder is written to state the fact clearly. I want to state here categorically and emphatically that though I was at Computer Village to address some issues, I was never arrested for stealing 10 iphone 7, as stated by the writer of the story, the matter has since been resolved by the Nigeria Police; and the issue of me stealing phone is devilish.”
Meanwhile in a telephone conversation with Egbegbe’s publicist, Saturday Beats learnt that he was arrainged on Thursday at a the Magistrate Court in Ikeja on a one count charge of theft but he has since met his one million naira bail condition. His publicist further emphasised that Egbge is not in prison but resting somewhere in Ikeja, Lagos
