Police Arraign 20-Year Old Housemaid For Stealing N700k
The police have arraigned a 20-year-old housemaid, Loveth Emmanuel, before an Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N700,000 from the safes of her boss, identified only as Rufus.
It was alleged that the suspect used a stick of broom to open four safes and stole the money at their residence on Sholanke Street in the Ebute-Meta area of Lagos State.
She was alleged to have attempted to flee when the boss alerted policemen from the Denton division, who arrested her.
Rufus described the suspect as an ingrate, saying he treated her well and gave her the same privilege as his children.
He said Emmanuel, who was brought to his family by an agent, stole money meant for his children’s school fees and jumped into a fast moving vehicle in a bid to escape.
However, the 20-year-old claimed that her boss got her arrested because she wanted to sit for an examination, adding that it was when she was not given time for the exam that she decided to flee.
The Cross River State indigene said the theft allegation happened since July 2016, and she had been forgiven until she was arrested while going for the exam.
Emmanuel, who claimed to be an orphan, said she started staying with Rufus about a year ago, and she was not given any breathing space in the house.
She was, however, arraigned on two counts of stealing.
The charge read in part, “That you, Loveth Emmanuel, on July 12, 2016, on Sholanke Street, Ebute-Meta, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by using a piece of broom to steal the sum of N700,000 from four safe boxes in the room of one Rufus, your boss….
“That you did steal the sum of N700,000 from four safe boxes, the money meant for children’s school fees, property of Rufus….”
The police prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, said the offence was punishable under sections 166 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
The defence counsel, Okoya Sholope, asked the court to grant the defendant bail in liberal terms, adding that the offence was bailable.
The prosecutor did not object to the bail application.
The magistrate, Mrs. M.A. Olajuwon, consequently granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum, adding that the surety must be resident in Lagos with evidence of tax payment to the state.
The case was adjourned till January 25, 2017.

Apostle Johnson Suleman sacks pastor for using church name for MMM (Photos)
A pastor in one of the Nigerian branches of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide has been expelled from the ministry. Recall that Pastor Suleman condemned the scheme, calling it satanic.
According to a statement signed by Pastor David Apelorioye, the head of admin at OFM, Pastor Joseph Aiyedun, who is in charge of one the OFM branches in Aba, Abia State, was fired for participating in the Mavrodi Mondial Movement (MMM), a ponzi scheme widely acclaimed to be a satanic venture.
It should be recalled that the founder and president of the OFM, Apostle Johnson Suleman, at a church service in November 2016, warned members of his congregation against involving in MMM, calling it 'demonic'.
The statement from the church reads thus;
The statement adds that the erring pastor was sacked after a thorough investigation and it was discovered that he used the name of the church to register for MMM, thereby denting the ministry's image in the public eye. It was gathered that the erring pastor would have just been disciplined in line with the church rules if he had registered for the scheme in his personal capacity but because he used the ministry's name for the scheme, he was asked to go.

It should be recalled that the founder and president of the OFM, Apostle Johnson Suleman, at a church service in November 2016, warned members of his congregation against involving in MMM, calling it 'demonic'.
The statement from the church reads thus;
"The management of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide is using this medium to react to a news making the rounds on the social media regarding one of his pastors who used the ministry's name to register for the MMM scheme. Ordinarily, the church would not have reacted to the story because of falsehoods being published regularly by some blogs and news websites whose credibility are questionable. But after a thorough investigation by the church authority, it was established that one of our branch pastors in Aba, Pastor Joseph Aiyedun, indeed participated in the scheme."
"The church authority decided to expel Pastor Aiyedun not because he registered for the ponzi scheme but because he involved the ministry's name in the satanic adventure. And we discovered that he was able to use the ministry's name because he had access to the account of his branch which itself is against the church's guidelines and a fraud likely to have been carried out in connivance with the branch's account department. We are still investigating further to unravel the whole activities."
The statement therefore appeals to the general public to disregard any news being passed around about Omega Fire Ministries involving in the MMM scheme or any scheme of its kind because it is not true.
"Of the OFM's 200 churches in Nigeria alone and its 800 branches in 51 nations of the world, it is possible for any of the pastors to go astray and be corrected. In fact, we discovered that Pastor Aiyedun, including some other members of OFM, did the scheme before our father, Apostle Johnson Suleman made the warning last year against MMM, but Pastor Aiyedun was fired because he did it with the ministry's name as the OFM rules forbid any of its pastors access to the account except people in the account department."It was gathered that to enable him look after his family whilst he searches for other things to do in life, the church paid the sacked pastor a full one year salary ahead on the instruction of Apostle Suleman who was not available for comments at press time.

29-year-old man blames the devil after defiling 14-yr-old orange hawker
A 29-year-old driver, Isiaka Mustapha, is undergoing interrogation at the Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Oyo State Police Command for alleged defilement of a 14-year-old girl, Halimat (not real name).
Halimat, who used to hawk oranges for her mother, was said to be regular in the neighbourhood where the suspect lived at Aremo area of Ibadan, the state capital, as many of the residents used to patronise her, including the suspect.
Mustapha reportedly committed the offence on January 6, while pretending that he wanted to buy oranges from the teenager.
According to information gathered by Crime Reports, the girl was hawking as usual, when the suspect beckoned at her, expressing the desire to buy some oranges.
Since she was already familiar with Mustapha and his wife, who were her regular customers, Halimat did not hesitate to take her tray into his room as she was used to. More so, the suspect lived with his wife, so the girl had no thought that he could hurt her.
But, it was learnt that the suspect sent his wife to go and fetch water at a distance before allegedly carrying out the act.
As the girl waited for Mustapha to pay for the oranges he bought, he reportedly pounced on and forced himself into her.
He was said to have broken her hymen, as she was still a virgin, resulting in bleeding.
The victim, while narrating her experience, said that she struggled with the suspect and screamed for help but nobody came to her rescue.
She said she had to tell her mother when she got back home following profuse bleeding. She was still visibly in pain as she could hardly walk well when she came to the station to give her statement, Crime Reports learnt.
In an interview, the suspect admitted committing the offence but said it was an evil spirit that manipulated him.
According to Mustapha,
Confirming the arrest of the suspect, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, a Superintendent of Police, said that he would be arraigned after the conclusion of investigations.

According to Mustapha,
“it is true I raped Halimat. She used to hawk oranges in my neighbourhood, and my wife and I used to patronise her. We also used to collect orange peels from her to use as mosquito repellant. That day, she came as usual to sell oranges but, I was repairing a faulty electric cable. My wife had gone to look for water that I would use to bath.
Halimat asked for water and I gave her. She expressed tiredness, saying that she would rest a little bit but I told her I was going back to motor park to work.
At a point, I didn’t know the spirit that entered into me and made me to rape her in my room. When I forced my manhood into her, she screamed in pain and I withdrew immediately. I regretted my action when I saw her bleeding and started asking for forgiveness from God.
I also pleaded with her to forgive me. I paid her the money for the oranges I bought and asked to go home. Two days after, two men came to my house and I was arrested.”

RRS Arrest Notorious Fraudsters, Including A Lady In Lagos
Men of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested a man, who is alleged to be the kingpin of a syndicate that specialises in defrauding people.
Segun Akintola, popularly known as Okadigbo, was apprehended by the RRS Decoy Team in his shrine at Ijora area of Lagos over his involvement with the fraud gang.
The syndicate duped a woman in Ikorodu last year.
Preliminary investigation conducted by RRS showed that Okadigbo is the arrow head of different syndicates of fraudsters operating in Lagos and parts of Ogun states.
Until his arrest, four of his accomplices earlier arrested by the operatives of RRS had given him out as their ring–leader.
The operatives were reported to have been on the lookout for him since last year.
Okadigbo confessed to RRS that he is a fraudster, but denied being the syndicate leader. He told the operatives that he pretended to be an herb seller to deceive his victims.
RRS quoted him as saying: “It is true they used my shrine. They bring their victims but everybody operated on their own.
“Although, the fake dollar they use is mine but I don’t know anything about their operation. I operated by selling herbs to people looking for children. I do spiritual bath for clients and defraud them.”
A gang member, Christian Odokor, in his confessional statement said:

“We robbed a woman about a year ago. We took all she had including N300,000 cash and recharge cards of all networks worth N120,000. Okadigbo is our master.
“All of us, about nine groups that I know report to him. We operated in different parts of the state. He is so powerful and fiery that no policeman dare arrest him. Now, I was shocked seeing him here with us in your custody.”
The female member of the team, Toyin Idebi, said greed made her joined the gang two years ago.
Idebi said: “I was a stylist and doing well before I joined them. I like how they were spending money on women. Initially, they were reluctant to tell me their nature of their job. They just told me they were into import and export business. Later, one of them opened up and I joined them”.
“My main job was to act as someone who was carrying foreign currencies who didn’t know her destination. Though, those currencies were fake but I didn’t know how Okadigbo got them.”
Recounting her ordeal, the victim, Joy, said:

Footballer gets yellow card for proposing to girlfriend during match (photos/video)
What happened was Ashton Surber — who plays in Guam for the NAPA Rovers — scored a dazzling bicycle kick goal.
Then to celebrate, he ran over to point at his girlfriend in the crowd, pulled off his jersey and revealed a shirt that says “MARRY ME?”.
Unfortunately for him, right before he got on one knee, the referee showed up behind him and flashed him a yellow card for tearing off his shirt. lol.
Reports say his woman said yes to the proposal though. Totally worth the yellow card, wasn’t it? See more photos and the sweet video below.

Man kills friend over N500 dog meat in Lagos
A 27-year-old welder, Sunday Hycenth, has been arrested by the Lagos state Police command for allegedly killing his friend, Onwe Ozoemelem, over a N500 dog meat.
Incident happened in the FESTAC Town area of the state. PUNCH Metro reports that Hycenth and 26-year-old Ozoemelem had engaged in fisticuffs over the dog meat bought by their friend.
Sunday allegedly hit the deceased, Onwe with fist blows on the chest, after which he slumped and was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
Hycenth was subsequently arrested by policemen from the FESTAC division before the case was
transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.
Hycenth hails from the Ezzamgbo area of Ebonyi State, while the late Ozoemelem was born in the Ezza North area of the same state.
The suspect said he worked as a welder around the Waterside area of FESTAC.
He said on December 30, 2016, when the incident happened, he was revelling with his friends when a man bought the dog meat for them. He said,
“The man that bought the meat for us is like a big brother . We started sharing it in the order of seniority. The meat had gone round and it remained two pieces for me and the deceased. He suddenly picked the two and ate them. He then dropped the plate.
“I challenged him for eating the meat and he said the man that bought it didn’t say I must also eat from it. I told him if he needed to eat meat that badly he should have gone back to his village and that was how the fight started.”He explained that after some minutes of wrestle, they were separated.
The suspect claimed that he later went inside his room to drink water and change his clothes.
Hycenth said a few minutes afterwards, the victim began groaning with pain and complained of chest pains, adding that he was among those that rushed him to a hospital in the area.
Hycenth denied responsibility for the death of his friend.
“I didn’t punch him or use any object to hit him. It was just a normal fight and he was on top of me when we were separated. He told me he did not smoke because he had a chest pain that had been disturbing him for some time. I didn’t kill him,” he added.Punch adds that the police were awaiting the result of the autopsy conducted on the corpse while the families of the victim and suspect were making plans to bury Ozoemelem in Ebonyi.
Hycenth was on Thursday arraigned before an Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court on one count of murder. His plea was not taken for the charge.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, asked that the defendant be kept in prison pending the release of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
But the defence counsel, A.A. Onyiuke, urged the court to look into the facts of the case, saying the charge brought by the police was not appropriate.
The Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Olajuwon, after perusing the case file, said the charge brought by the police was wrong.
She said,
“Both of them were fighting when one of them fell and died. So, it is not murder, but manslaughter. I am going to grant him bail pending the release of legal advice.”She subsequently gave the suspect bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
Olajuwon adjourned the matter to February 6, 2017, for legal advice.

Kidnappers of Nigerian Turkish staff, pupils demand N100m
Gunmen who stormed the Nigerian Turkish International Colleges have contacted the family of a matron who was abducted on Friday along with three pupils, a Turkish teacher and a school supervisor, demanding N100m ransom for each.
The kidnappers were said to have called the matron’s husband in the early hours of Sunday and warned him against involving the police in the negotiation.
This is just as the management of the school said it would engage the service of a private outfit to beef up security on the premises.
Some gunmen had invaded the college premises around 9pm on Friday through a hole they dug under the school fence and headed for the female hostel, shooting continuously.
They whisked away three pupils, two intending Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination candidates, who also worked in the school, and three other staff members, including the matron.
A combined team of operatives from Ogun Police Command, the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team and other security agencies had been patrolling the school surroundings and creeks, with a view to rescuing the victims.
Despite assurance from security agents, panic-stricken parents stormed the school on Saturday to pick their children, who were said to have been traumatised by the attack.
A source close to the matron’s family told Punch that the kidnappers had requested the husband to liaise with families of other victims to raise N100m ransom.
The source said, “The kidnappers called her (matron’s) husband early this morning (Sunday) and demanded N100m for the release of all the victims. He has been warned not to play smart. They are insisting on the sum for now.
“We are worried, but we have belief in God. We hope God will touch their heart to free all the victims. The police are also assuring us that they are on top of the situation.”
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the command was not aware of any demand for ransom, stating that the victims would be rescued soon.
He said, “Our focus is to secure the release of the victims and get those hoodlums arrested. We are working towards that and we believe that very soon we are going to get them.”
