Big Looter Flees As Whistle-Blower Exposes N4bn In Secret Accounts

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it has stumbled on 2 bank accounts containing a joint sum of N2bn suspected to be the proceeds of crime.

The EFCC said in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, that the money belongs to a former deputy governorship candidate.

The commission, however, did not reveal the identity of the candidate but he's from Niger State.

According to the anti-graft agency, the money was found based on a tip-off from a whistle-blower.

The EFCC added that the suspect was on the run as well as the account officer who was in charge of the accounts.

The statement read in part, “A tip-off by a whistle-blower on Tuesday led to another discovery by the EFCC of a staggering sum of N4bn suspected to be proceeds of crime. Investigations as to the owner of the funds revealed that the money belongs to a former deputy governorship candidate in Niger State.

“The suspect used the names of two companies – Katah Property & Investment Limited and Sadiq Air Travel Agency – in laundering the funds. Each of the company has N2bn fixed in its deposit account domiciled in Guaranty Trust Bank.

The suspected owner of the account and the account officer are currently on the run.”

Recalled that the EFCC had recently commenced investigations of the immediate-past Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, and some other key members of his administration.

I’D Rather Offend Man Than God In Turning Edo To Nigeria’s Dubai -Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, yesterday, said that he would rather offend man than God in this his vision to turn the state to the Dubai of Nigeria.

The governor, who stated this when he received members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Edo State, said that his becoming the governor of the state was divine and, therefore, he will not misuse the opportunity given to him by God to serve the people of the state.

According to him, “Our challenge in the first 120 days is how do we begin to set the agenda because as the rains come, things will get slow. So we are using the dry period to quickly do the much we can. If I spend endless hours at meetings, meeting individuals and groups, I will not have the time to do the work.

There is always time for us to meet. So, I am saying that we should be patient so that we can get so much. “We have nothing to hide.

Like you said, this is a divine opportunity which comes and that is why we are working very hard for our people, day and night.

I do not mind hurting my fellow man rather than God because it is God who brought us out, gave us this opportunity and He expects us to please Him and nobody else.

The only way we can please God is to work for Him and the people who voted us in.” “That is what we are going to do. I can assure you that the future is bright

. In terms of appointment, I made it clear, first I don’t believe in appointing people to do them favour, no. I must get value for any appointment, if I don’t define for you what I expect you to do for me, at the end of the day I will pay you, you won’t get the value, I won’t get the satisfaction.”

2 men pose as passengers, kill Lagos Uber driver in attempt to steal his car

Detectives attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspects who posed as passengers and killed an Uber driver, in an attempt to steal his vehicle.
The suspects and one other, who is at large, strangled the driver, Innevosa Emmanuel and disposed him of his KIA RIO salon car marked KTU 594DM.  The suspects always go after uber drivers with the intention of killing them and stealing their cars, to resell them to new buyers.

The suspects boarded the vehicle from Ikeja to take them to Ogba, Oke-Ira during which they suddenly ordered the driver to make a U-turn and take them to Oremeji Street, Obawole area of Ogba, where he was strangled with a belt by the robbers and the vehicle was driven away.

According to one of the suspects, he said they were three that participated in the killing of the driver.
“I and Michael met at Ogba where I went to drink and we became friends. I told him how difficult things were for me that I needed to relocate to Benin to start all over again.
It was at this point that Michael told me about a deal that could fetch me some money that we could get a car and then sell it to his boss.
Michael then told me about one Alex (Emmanuel) who had a vehicle and we agreed to meet the following day. Since then we had been meeting and discussing how to buy the vehicle.
On the fateful day the Uber driver came, I was with Michael in his office and his friend Destiny was with him but I don’t know if he discussed the vehicle deal with Destiny. Around 9:30p.m, we called the Uber driver to come and pick us at Tantalizer eatery at Ogba. I and Destiny were inside the vehicle with the driver, but Michael was outside while I was holding the belt.
Immediately I put the belt across the driver’s neck, Destiny dragged the belt and we strangled him. When we were satisfied that he was dead, we took his corpse to Oremeji Street and dumped him in front of a church around 10:30 p.m., without anybody noticing us.
After killing the driver, we took the vehicle to Michael’s boss to sell it. The buyer then inquired from us where we got the vehicle from and Michael told him that we killed the owner.
The buyer then said we should take the car away and Michael said we should take it to his house and park it outside, before taking it to another buyer in Benin.
Later we were tracked to Benin, arrested and brought back to Lagos.” the suspect said.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, who paraded the suspects at the Command headquarters, said the command received a report of a missing Uber driver, whose car was stolen and the driver missing.

Owoseni said since then, it has been an issue of concern and detectives through their sustained efforts towards the missing driver, two days ago arrested two suspects in connection with the missing driver.
“The suspects posed as passengers, strangled the Uber driver and dumped his remains at Ogba and the vehicle was taken to Delta State, where it was recovered and the suspects arrested.”
The Police boss said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Customs Officer Allegedly Rapes, Videotapes Online Friend As CP Promises JUSTICE

A Customs officer, identified simply as Samuel, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly raping and videotaping the nudity of his female friend.

It was gathered that 29-year-old Samuel always threatened to post the clip on the social media whenever he demanded to have s3x with her and she refused.

Punch Metro learnt that the duo had met on an online dating platform, Badoo, and after establishing a mutual friendship, the Customs man invited her to his house in the Ogba area of Lagos.

Sometime in March 2017, the 26-year-old woman was said to have visited Samuel and after entertaining her, he reportedly made love advances to her, which she allegedly rejected.

Samuel was said to have left her in the apartment, locked the door from outside and went out.

A police source disclosed to a Punch correspondent that Samuel returned home seven hours later when the woman had almost become unconscious, raped her and took a video of her nakedness.

It was learnt that the case was reported to policemen who arrested the suspect on Sunday.

The source said, “The suspect is a Customs officer. He and the victim met on Badoo and he asked her to visit him. She honoured the invitation, unknown to her that he had a hidden agenda.

“He shut her inside and went out. The woman said she called for help to no avail. He returned home seven hours after and met her semi-conscious. Probably, he had put sedatives into a drink he used to entertain her.

“He removed her clothes, raped her and videoed her nakedness. Thereafter, whenever he called her to come to his house and she refused, he would threaten to put the video on the social media and out of fear, she would yield to his request.

“At a point, she declined an invitation to his house and dared him. He sent the video to her relative to show that he meant his threat. The relative and the victim later reported the case to the police, leading to his arrest.

”Punch correspondent learnt that the suspect had been transferred to the Sexual and Domestic Violence Unit of the command headquarters in Ikeja for further investigation.

In a briefing on Wednesday at the headquarters, the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, confirmed the incident.

The CP, however, did not disclose the full name and other details of the suspect, saying that the public would be properly briefed after the conclusion of investigations.

He said, “The Customs officer has been arrested for the offence and he is being investigated. We assure members of the public that the case will not be swept under the carpet.”

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has granted embattled online blogger,  Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo,  N1 million bail following the bail application of her counsel,  Fatai. O. Lawal.
The trial Judge, Justice H.I.O Shamah, who delivered ruling, on Tuesday, said the Court exercised discretionary power and, also, because the offence for which she was arraigned was bailable.

Reading the long list of bail conditions, Justice Shamah said the accused must produce a surety in like sum, adding that the surety must be resident in Port Harcourt metropolis and the person’s address must be verifiable.

Also, the surety,  if a civil servant,  should not be below Level 12 and must submit his or her letter of employment, as well as staff identity card.

The trial Judge stressed that the Court painstakingly perused and took into cognizance the arguments of the Prosecution and Defence Counsels,  and arrived at conclusion that the,  charge,  cyber crime, leveled against her,  was bailable.

Speaking shortly after court proceedings, SunNews reports Counsel for Kemi,  Mr. Fatai Lawal, said:
“We brought an application for the bail of my client and it was argued yesterday (Monday) and the ruling was just delivered.
“I think the bail condition is set. The court has ruled and I think we must abide by that.  The bail conditions are a bit long;  one surety either a Civil Servant of not.  If the person is a Civil Servant the conditions are there, if the person is not, the conditions are also there.
“it depend on our ability to meet the bail conditions.  The court has already given its ruling.”
It would be recalled that the lady had been in detention at the Port Harcourt Maximum Prisons for allegedly transmitting false adultery report about the General Overseer of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie.

US Governor resigns over sex scandal with aide

The governor of the conservative southern US state of Alabama resigned Monday, shortly after lawmakers began impeachment proceedings linked to his affair with a senior aide that was made public in humiliating detail.
Robert Bentley, 74, pleaded guilty in an agreement with prosecutors on Monday to two misdemeanor campaign violations and is barred from seeking public office again.

“I have spent the last year in deep and earnest prayer over our state and our people. I pray every morning for wisdom and guidance and forgiveness for the sins I have committed,” the former dermatologist and church deacon told a news conference announcing his resignation, never directly acknowledging his romantic relationship with 45-year-old political adviser Rebekah Caldwell Mason.
The relationship between Bentley and his married aide became a topic of speculation in 2015, when his wife of 50 years, Dianne, abruptly filed for divorce.

The scandal broke last spring when the state’s top police officer -- fired by Bentley -- provided the news organization AL.com with salacious details of the secret romance.

The media outlet reported on a 2014 phone conversation between Bentley and a woman he called Rebekah that was secretly captured by Dianne Bentley.
“When I stand behind you, and I put my arms around you, and I put my hands on your breasts, and I put my hands (unintelligible) and just pull you real close. I love that, too,” the governor is heard saying.
“Baby, let me know what I am going to do when I start locking the door,” he said during another part of the tape.
“If we are going to do what we did the other day, we are going to have to start locking the door.”
Last week, an impeachment investigation report prepared for the Alabama House Judiciary Committee said Bentley tried to cover up the affair “in a process characterized by increasing obsession and paranoia.”
“To ensure the silence of his staff, Governor Bentley encouraged an atmosphere of intimidation,” it added. “Concern over the recordings appears to have become an obsession.”
The report revealed that Bentley once opened the door of his hotel room in Washington clad in boxer shorts, thinking Mason was on the other side when it was actually hotel staff.

On the same trip in 2014, Dianne Bentley attended a group dinner with her husband and Mason, and saw the text messages he was sending his mistress while seated next to his wife, including
“I can’t take my eyes off of you.” Bentley once mistakenly sent his wife a text message that said, “I love you Rebekah,” accompanied by a red-rose emoji.

Dianne Bentley was able to access other text messages sent by her husband because he had given her his state-issued iPad, not realizing texts from his iPhone would show up on her tablet because the devices were linked.

As part of his plea deal, Bentley must surrender $37,000 in campaign funds and perform 100 hours of community service.

He pleaded guilty to failing to properly report a $50,000 loan made to his campaign, and using campaign funds to pay nearly $9,000 for Mason’s legal fees last year.

Lieutenant Governor Kay Ivey was sworn in as governor Monday evening.

EFCC Arraigns ‘Let’s Partner With You’ MD, Wife For N4bn Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, April 6, 2016, arraigned Patrick Shanchi Nwokike, Managing Director of a wonder bank, ‘Let’s Partner With You’ alongside his wife, Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike, before Justice Dugbo Aghoghorie of the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu, Enugu State on a 10-count charge bordering on Advanced Fee Fraud and carrying out banking business without valid License.

The offence runs contrary to the provisions of Section 8 (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other fraud related offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act. It also breaches Section 2(1) of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act.

Nwokike and his wife’s journey to the dock followed series of petitions from Nigerians across religious, gender, ethnic, economic and social strata alleging that their company, ‘Let’s Partner With You’, had over the past five years solicited and obtained deposits of more than N4billion from the general public with promises of mouth-watering interest in return.

Investigation revealed that, the company had no license to solicit and manage funds for the public nor was it registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, or the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC.

‘Let’s Partner With You’ was found to have over six accounts in about four banks with Nwokike and his wife being the only signatories to the accounts.

Further investigations revealed that the company had, for some time, paid a 10% (ten percent) interest on invested capital but suddenly stopped and efforts by depositors to have at least their initial investments were futile.

Obasanjo's Wife Loses Bid To Stop Her Son's Wedding

An Ikeja High Court has dismissed the suit filed by Mrs Taiwo Obasanjo, wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, seeking postponement of the wedding of her son Olujonwo to Tope Adebutu.

Justice Lateefa Okunnu dismissed the suit on the grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the suit because her son Olujonwo, 33, is an adult.

“On March 27, I ordered counsel to direct me on whether the family court can hear a case where the child is an adult. Counsel have addressed me and I have read the processes before me.

“I have found to be very genuine, what the applicant said regarding performing her parental duties in paragraph 15 of her affidavit. The court, regrettably, lacks the competence to adjudicate this suit, the jurisdiction of the family court covers children under the age of 18 years.

“The respondents son is 33-years-old, this negates the ability of this court to entertain this suit. The proper order to give is one dismissing this suit in its entirety, I hereby dismiss this suit,” the judge said.

Former President Obasanjo and the father of the bride, Sir Kessington Adebutu, promoter of Premier Lotto known as “Baba Ijebu” are the respondents to the suit. Mrs Taiwo Obasanjo was present in court while former President Obasanjo and Sir Adebutu were absent.
Mrs Obasanjo had in her suit filed on March 27, prayed that the wedding which is scheduled for May 11, be moved to any date after June 1 which is Olujonwo’s 34th birthday. According to her, she had received various warnings and prophecies from men of God that her son should not be involved in any elaborate celebration before his birthday.

Nigeria Police Reacts To Governor Wike's Allegation

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed allegation by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris planned to kill him.

It described the allegation as malicious, saying it's capable of misleading and causing disaffection between the NPF and the people of Rivers State, the police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood said in a statement.

Wike had in an interview said the IG had instructed the state Commissioner of Police to kill him, but the police countered him, saying the governor is being guarded by 221 policemen.

CSP Moshood stressed that the governor had more policemen than some police area commands in some states and also faulted claims by Wike that nine Commissioners of Police had served in the state since the IG assumed office, hinting that only three CPs had served there.

He said, "There was no time either recently or in the past that the Inspector-General of Police gave an order or assignment to the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State or any police officer anywhere in the country to kill Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Executive Governor of Rivers State or directs the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State to cage the governor as alleged.

“It is incumbent on the Nigeria Police Force to educate the general public and draw the attention of the governor to the facts and figures available for press and members of the public to verify, that there are 221 police personnel attached currently to Governor Nyesom Wike for his personal and office protection.”

According to the police, the personnel attached to Wike included one Aide-De-Camp, one Chief Security Officer, one Unit Commander (Special Protection Unit); one Unit Commander (Counter Terrorism Unit) and one Escort Commander.

Others are one Camp Commander; one Admin officer to administer the police personnel, 54 Inspectors, 136 Sergeants and 24 Corporals.

Fayose, Wike Free To Leave PDP - Sheriff

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has said the party is ready to call the bluff of its governors that are not ready to accept him.

He also said the party was not ready to collect money from the governors to fund the party, saying the former ruling party would not collect what he called “stolen money from the governors.”

He added that the party would not defend any of the governors when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission came after them on how they spent state money while in office.

Sheriff, who spoke to a Punch correspondent through his deputy, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, on the telephone in Abuja on Saturday, said the party was ready to move on without the governors who refused to join hands in rebuilding the party.

Ojougboh, who said he was already in the South-East, where he said the party was going to commence its nationwide mobilisation, specifically said both the governors of Rivers and Ekiti states, Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose, were free to leave the party if they so desired.

Sheriff and members of his team had, on Thursday in Abuja, walked out of a reconciliatory meeting called by former President Goodluck Jonathan over disagreements on how the meeting should be conducted.

Sheriff had insisted that he would preside over the meeting, but Wike and Fayose disagreed, saying Jonathan should preside since it was a reconciliatory and not a party meeting.

However, members of the National Caretaker Committee of the party led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi and other stakeholders did not leave the venue, even after Sheriff and his team left.

Jonathan, who described the walkout by Sheriff and his team as unfortunate, said he was going to set up a committee of not more than 40 persons on how to resolve the crisis in the party.

Makarfi and members of his team are currently at the Supreme Court, where they filed an appeal against the judgment of a Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, which affirmed Sheriff as the national chairman of the troubled party.

He said the party would not want to be dragged into how the governors spent the resources of their states.

Ojougboh said, “We are moving on with the determination to reposition the party. We are not interested in the funding of the party from the governors. They are free to leave if they want to, especially Wike and Fayose.

“We are also not interested in their money. The party belongs to the people, they will finance it. So, if the governors want to withhold money from the party, they are free. We don’t receive stolen money. They have not been funding us and we are surviving.”

He said the party was already planning a nationwide campaign, adding that they were already in the South-East where he said the campaign would start.

“We are starting with Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu and Abia states, and then we will move to Cross River State. The party belongs to the people and not to governors who will want to steal people’s money,” he added.

Efforts made by our correspondent to get the reaction of Fayose, who is also the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, failed as his aide refused to speak on the matter.

His Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, promised to call our correspondent back but failed to do as of the time of filling this report.

Angry Wife Storms Wedding With 2 Kids, Insists The Groom Is Her Husband

Serious drama took over a Church in Kanyama area of Kenya on Saturday, April 8th, after a woman stormed the arena claiming the groom was her husband and father of her children. The drama mandated a temporary stoppage of the wedding ceremony.

The woman identified as Lydia Mugure stormed the church accompanied by her two children and demanded entry after police officers locked the main gate denying her and others.

While outside the church, she cried that her husband had neglected her and their children since December 2016. She claims he was getting married to the officiating minister's secretary named Grace.

"We broke up on December 31, 2016. I have no problem with our separation but he has decided to marry again. I have two children, one aged 10 and the other aged 5. What I want is he takes his children with him. He has married another woman in pretence of having no children. I also want to marry without the stress of being a mother," she said.

"We have been married for ten years. I don't want him. On Wednesday, he had told me that the wedding would not take place. As at yesterday (Friday April 7th) plans of the wedding were still on. That is why I came here today to disrupt the wedding. Let us first settle the children dispute and then we can move on after that. He has a pending case at the children's court. He has been summoned four times to appear before the court, but he has never honoured the court summons" said Ms Mugure.

After exchanging vows, the couple quickly left the church while being hidden by family members.

People have criticized the officiating Minister named Moses Muturi for rushing the function, saying they had been informed of the wedding just few days ago. They threatened to boycott Sunday service unless Rev. Muturi apologizes and rectifies his mistake.

But the Minister said the wedding can only be stopped by a court order.

"So, we had no reason to stop the wedding. So, the two's marriage is now formal. The former wife can go to court."

Prepare For "War" If You Launch Airstrikes On Syria Again – Putin dares Trump

Russsian President, Vladimir Putin, and America's Donald Trump, are set for a fall out that could lead to a show of force between both super power nations.
Coming after the United States airforce launched an airstrike on Syria, the Russian Government has warned the United States to back off or be prepared for real war.

The fallout comes after Pres. Trump in the early hours of Friday, ordered airstrikes (pictured) on a Syrian airbase in the first direct attack by the US against Assad, due to alleged chemical attack.

The said, "What America waged in an aggression on Syria is a crossing of red lines. From now on we will respond with force to any aggressor or any breach of red lines from whoever it is and America knows our ability to respond well."

Russian Embassy in London suggested, on Sunday night, that there could be ‘real war’ if Moscow is presented with an ultimatum over Syria.
