Nigerian Musician Adekunle Gold, graced the cover of the latest issue of Vibe Magazine and disclosed some really interesting things about his music, upbringing, and his rumored love interest Simi.
Read the interview below;
On how he started out as a singer years back, Gold said:
‘My father would say religion is education’ he tells me, recounting the events that paved the way for music.
‘I joined the teens choir and it was very competitive. It was a thing to just hold the mic and I would try to impress my choir mistress for a chance then but she wasn’t having it. She’d say “you’re not there yet” so I kept doing the most to impress this woman. I think I was in the church for 11 years and it never happened.’
On his kind of music:
“My genre is a fusion of Highlife and Pop and Indie. My manager says it’s Modern Highlife but I still say that it’s Urban Highlife.” Right behind us is Niyi, a young lady full of warmth and natural hair who had earlier introduced herself as his friend and manager. As accused by Adekunle, she repeats herself with a stress. “Moderrrrn highlife…”.

On several attempts at breaking into the industry:

‘I went to so many auditions and I got so many NOs to the point that I was like ‘I’m done; I’m not doing these reality shows again. Let me focus on my own reality…See that line yeah?’ he pumps his index finger, nodding and smiling at his poetic usage of the word “reality”.

On photoshopping and how he became known:

‘It started out as fun, you know. One Saturday morning, I was in my house and I saw one particular photo of Tiwa Savage. I thought, I would love to take a picture with this lady, ‘cause I really love Tiwa Savage. Then I thought, you know, I can. So I told my friend to take my picture. He thought I was crazy. And I did as if I was holding her from behind and then I did the photoshop and people really liked it. I was struggling for people to hear my music so I thought, if I can be popular for this one, I might as well. It might find its way to the people I really want to work with as a musician. I went on to do pictures with Toolz and Tontoh Dikeh and it became a sensation. They started saying King of Photoshop. So, when I released a song, they didn’t take me seriously at first. This Photoshop guy, what can he sing?’

‘I studied Art and Industrial Design at Lagos State Polytechnic and I majored in graphics’ He says, explaining how a twist of fate landed him a job as the official graphics designer for YBNL.
‘I designed the YBNL logo. It was just a business relationship and I did stuff for Olamide. Though I remember sending him something that I wrote for him, but that was some balls because Olamide writes for himself but I just thought maybe he would like this one. There was no music relationship at all. Then I released Sade on my own then he said he would like to have me on board. I took the deal, before my guy will change his mind.’

On his personal life:

‘Girl. My life has been about girls. Everything girl! It was 2004, I went to see a friend and she said they were having a midweek service. I said, why not? Is it not to go and get the girl? But then, I found Jesus. You get the greater God then you now get the girl. Interesting story right?’

On Orente and writing the song for rumored lover Simi:

“I thought I said this already. I wrote Orente about Simisola, it’s not even news again. But it’s for you as well “, he adds with a cheeky laugh.

Veteran Nollywood actress and associate pastor of the Fresh Oil Ministry International Church, Lagos, Eucharia Anunobi has lost her only child, Raymond Ekwu to sickle cell Anemia.
The young man was said to have died early yesterday morning from complications associated with the disorder.

Raymond was born in 2002 by Eucharia and her former husband, Charles Ekwu. Charles according to Eucharia abandoned home leaving her with their only child, while she was outside Lagos shooting.

Mark Wahlberg soared to the top of the world's highest paid actors on an annual Forbes magazine list that highlighted a huge disparity between male and female Hollywood stars.

Wahlberg, 46, earned an estimated $68 million in 2017 thanks to his pay days for movies Daddy's Home 2 and Transformers: The Last Knight, according to the Forbes ranking released on Tuesday.

The rapper-turned-actor knocked 2016 leader Dwayne The Rock Johnson into second place, with estimated 2017 earnings of $65 million.

Vin Diesel came in at number three with $54.5m for films such as xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and Marvel's hit sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Man shot dead while greeting former boss at a burial ceremony in Delta

Tragedy struck at a burial ceremony, after a yet-to-be identified policeman attached to Chief Johnny Aribogha in Delta State shot 34-year-old Fred Igueriede dead, leaving two other persons, a man and a woman, with gunshot injuries.
The deceased who left behind his wife and two children, was killed while exchanging pleasantries with his former employer, Chief Johnny Aribogha at funeral of the mother-in-law of Mr. Joe Akugbowe, a tenant of Chief Aribogha, at Eweri Primary School, Emede in Isoko South LGA he was invited to.Punch reports that the family of the deceased claimed that Aribogha, was at large and could not be reached since the incident occurred. The elder brother of the deceased, Mr. Governor Ogbon, called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Commissioner of Police to go after all those culpable in the killing, as two other people in the crowd were said to have sustained gunshot injuries as other policemen at the ceremony fired continuously in the confusion that trailed the incident.
However, when contacted, Aribogha denied having a hand in the killing, saying his security detail who has already been arrested had an accidental discharge which killed the victim
Confirming the incident, Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, said three riot policemen from the 33 Squadron had been arrested for the “dastardly act.” He noted that the cops were in detention, adding that investigations were ongoing

NBC bans Davido, 9ice and Olamide’s songs, says they are unworthy to be aired

The National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has tagged five Nigerian songs as “Not to be Broadcasted.” The corporation released the list, saying it has banned the 5 songs from being aired.
The songs are: Olamide‘s “Wo” and “Wavy Level“; Davido‘s “Fall” and “If (Remix)“; and 9ice‘s “Living Things.”
The Federal Ministry of Health had in a tweet on Friday said that the video to Olamide’s “Wo” is in violation of the Tobacco Control Act 2015.

A man believed to have stolen a child’s phone was subjected to the wrath of violent vigilantes, who stripped him naked and dragged him through the street.
The furious mob stripped the alleged thief and dragged him through the streets of Mexican city Herica Ciudad de Tlaxiaco in a horrific public shaming.
Barbaric footage shows the violent mob humiliating the suspect after he was accused of stealing a child’s mobile phone.
He is first pictured standing stark naked in the middle of the street, surrounded by crowds with a rope around his neck.
The suspect, who is yet to be found guilty, first attempts to keep some of his dignity by covering up his genitalia.
He soon gives up and takes to making the rope around his neck more loose and comfortable as hundreds of onlookers talk and take photos.

In more graphic scenes later on the man was pictured curled up on the floor, covering up his face and crying as crowds continue to chant abuse and cheer.
The 24-year-old man, identified in locally as Luis Hernandez Dominguez, was filmed cowering on the floor after being reportedly beaten.

Man Nabbed For Allegedly Raping Boy To Death In Kebbi

 Following repeated cases of assault arising from homosexuality in Kebbi State, the state police command yesterday arrested two suspects who allegedly raped two boys, aged 12 and nine, to death. The two arrests were made at different villages in the state.
Addressing newsmen yesterday at the police headquarter in Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim M. Kabiru, said one Malam Ibrahim Yohana Mudi allegedly raped two boys aged 10 and 12 in Kalgo and Zuru Local Councils of the state, while 45-year-old Dantani Sani, raped a nine-year-old boy to death in Zauro town.
“Sani, from Sabon Gari area of Zauro town was arrested based on information that he had had sexual intercourse with a young boy, one Ibrahim Muhammadu Dangi, who is now deceased aged nine of the same village, against the order of nature.

The offence was committed on July 31, 2017. Immediately after the assault, the deceased started purging and vomiting and later died few hours later on the same date.”
The police boss said the suspect would be charge to court for alleged culpable homicide.

Uniport student who allegedly killed girl for ritual escapes from police custody in Port Harcourt

                                    
It was learnt that Dike, who was caught by a local vigilante in Eliozu axis of Port Harcourt and handed over to the police, escaped Sunday night. Sources say police have begun manhunt for the fleeing suspect.
It will be recalled that Dike had removed the eyes, vagina, a finger, and tongue of his victim before he was apprehended.

Hajj Pilgrims Evacuated After Fire Breaks Out In Mecca Hotel

A hotel in the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca, where two million Muslims will perform the annual hajj pilgrimage, was evacuated today after a fire broke out, the civil defence service said.

Civil defence spokesman Nayef al-Sharif said no casualties were reported in the fire, which was sparked by a faulty air conditioning unit on the eighth floor of a hotel in the Azaziyah district of Mecca.

All 600 residents, most of whom had come from Turkey and Yemen for the hajj pilgrimage, were evacuated and have since returned to the hotel, Sharif said.

LASG Shuts Illegal Plank Market

The Lagos State Government yesterday ordered the immediate closure of an illegal plank market in Oko-Baba Extension in the Yaba Local Council Development Area of the state.

The government said the market was a safe haven for hoodlums and posed security threats, which informed the decision.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Muslim Folami, in a statement, said innocent citizens and commuters were victims of criminal activities perpetrated in the area.

He said the state government, under Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, was passionately committed to the safety of lives and property of residents of the state and would not allow any potential security threat to thrive.


“Therefore, Folami urged traders in the affected market to comply with the directive, just as he warned that those who flout the order would face the wrath of the law.

“Besides, the state government would not hesitate to also close down any of such illegal market in any part of the state in the overall interest of the people.”

Smugglers of imported snakes disappear from custody in Calabar

THE two suspects that were arrested in connection with the smuggling of consignments containing 140 different species of snakes and 660 other animals imported into Nigeria from Cameroon have disappeared from the custody of the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services in Cross River State.

The suspects, identified as Julius Novigana and Victor Agbor, were handed over to officials of the NAQS on July 26 by the Customs Area Comptroller in charge of Calabar Free Trade Zone, Cross River and Akwa Ibom Commands, Mrs. Nanbyen Burromvyat, following their interception.
The state director in charge of the NAQS, Mr. Sunday Ukut, on Friday told the Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Jubril, that the two suspects had disappeared.

“Just two persons were brought here and we have no clue where they have disappeared to,” Ukut simply told Jubril on Friday.

Jubril was on an official visit to the office in Calabar to hand over the reptiles to the University of Uyo for research.
The minister, who showed surprise at the disclosure, said he was not happy with the agency’s poor handling of the case.
He said the smugglers would have given information on where they got the reptiles from and where they were taking them to and for what purpose.

“But the agency has messed up the vigilance and good intentions of the Customs service officers who intercepted the consignment,” he said.

However, while handing over the reptiles to the University of Uyo representatives, Jubril said the importers wanted to use Nigeria as a transit point to smuggle the animals to Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Luxemburg, the original destination, as inscribed on the consignments.

“The importers thought they could use the Nigerian water channel or airports to smuggle these reptiles because they considered our airport and water channel as easy transit points for their nefarious activities, but thanks to the Customs for their vigilance; they intercepted the items,” he said.

He said the reptiles had the capacity to wipe out the country’s fauna if released without proper research because of their poisonous nature, adding that it was for that reason that the ministry decided to release them to the University of Uyo to conduct appropriate research.

“We must learn to have the interest of the environment at heart in all our activities. There are many things that these reptiles can do that are both destructive and beneficial to our habitat. So, we must always learn to ensure that we are vigilant at all times to ensure that nobody or organisation imports things that can negatively impact on our environment,” he said.

Receiving the consignments, a snake expert in the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment Management, University of Uyo, Dr. Edem Eniang, said the snakes were professionally packaged for export.
