I know the woman, they were living close to us here in Pipeline before they packed to Kaduna road. I told her that I would check and see if I can call the husband for her. I went inside, I met my sister and informed her that the man’s wife was outside looking for him, my sister said she was going to meet the woman, I tried to stop her and told her she was not the one the woman came for but she insisted. so I followed her because I didn’t want any problem.
“We met the woman and then I realised that if they start talking, it may result to another thing. So, I asked my sister to go inside and went to pipeline police station. I invited a policeman, he asked the woman what the problem was, she said she was here to see her husband. The policeman asked her to follow him to the station so she can write a statement and they will return to pick her husband. But she said she was not going anywhere so the policeman left.
“I went inside the house and the next thing I heard was that they had stabbed Awal. I rushed out, we did all we could to save him. We rushed him to the hospital and the doctor confirmed him dead and we brought him back home. She had left when I rushed out but the vigilante men caught and brought her later and we kept her till the police arrived.”

Her siblings, Gift, 28; and 23-year-old Blessing, who stayed with her, were also apprehended. They all hail from the Oron Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

Were they abused, sold into slavery or sold as domestic helps? This is not an orphanage or a day care centre. We want to know where she got the children from because we are concerned generally about child abuse.”

Bricklayer Kills Graduate Wife Over Overseas Plan
The Lagos State Police Command has declared a 34-year-old bricklayer, Akinyemi Edgar, wanted for allegedly killing his wife, Ajoke, in the Mowo, Badagry area of Lagos State.
Punch Metro learnt that the suspect beat the 28-year-old to death during a disagreement at their home and dragged her corpse on the ground to a place near the community well, where he buried her.
The matter was said to have been reported to the police at the Morogbo division, and the suspect was declared wanted.
Punch correspondent gathered that the marriage had been fraught with violence and the family of the woman had urged her to divorce him.
Neighbours were said to have been frequently called in to settle disagreements between the couple until tragedy struck.
A source told Punch correspondent that the victim might have been killed over her plan to travel overseas in January 2018.
He said, “The couple have been married for some time now and they have three children together. I cannot explain how they met and married because while the man is a bricklayer, the wife was a graduate. They had been having a series of domestic problems and neighbours were always called in to resolve their fights. In fact, the quarrel got so critical that the woman’s family advised her to separate from him because they were not compatible, but she refused.
“Late last year, she announced that she would be travelling abroad in January and the man became annoyed and vowed to end her life. On December 14, 2017, they had their usual disagreement and the man beat her to death. Ostensibly to deceive law enforcement agents from linking the death to him, he dragged her corpse far from their house and buried it beside a well. The corpse was later exhumed and the police were informed.”
Punch Metro learnt that the suspect had fled the house just as the case was transferred from the Morogbo Police Division to the command headquaters, Ikeja.
Efforts by residents and family members of the deceased to find the suspect had yet to be successful.
Punch correspondent gathered that the father of the victim, Mr. Atewologun Kalejaiye, had been inconsolable since the death of his daughter and called the police to give the family justice.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, confirmed the incident, adding that the matter had been transferred from the command to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.
He said, “The man killed his wife and absconded. The police recovered the corpse and deposited it in a mortuary for autopsy. The case has been transferred to the SCIID, while effort is ongoing to arrest the suspect.”

El-Rufai: your strike can’t save sacked teachers
Governor Nasir El-Rufai has told the union that its strike can’t return the 21,780 sacked teachers to work.
A statement by his media aide, Samuel Aruwan, stressed that the government will not allow the “selfishness” of a tiny minority ruin the future of two million children.
The statement reads: “The Kaduna State government hails the teachers who reported dutifully to their posts. Though NUT officials tried to unlawfully prevent teachers from working, many defied this intimidation.
“The government is collating reports from its Education Administrators and all teachers who absented themselves from work will face the severest penalties applicable in the public service rules.
“Across the state, the illegality of the NUT’s strike action is being compounded by physical attempts to frustrate those teachers who wish to work. No law permits any worker to tamper with another’s right to work.
“The government is resolute in its determination to protect the future of the children of the poor. Ordinary citizens are entitled to expect public primary schools to deliver a decent standard of education. At least, two million pupils are enrolled in public primary schools and their interests come first.
“The government is delighted to inform the public that marking of scripts of the 43,000 applicants for teaching positions is now concluded. The recruitment process to inject 25,000 qualified teachers into our public schools will now move to the next phase.
