Fire Razes Newly Constructed IDP Camp In Plateau

The newly constructed ultra modern Internally Displaced Persons Camp in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau has been razed by fire.

The camp was constructed by the Presidential Committee on Flood, Relief, and Rehabilitation, which came into being after the 2012 flood disaster that ravaged 24 states in the country.

Mr. Bintan Wuyep, Director, Relief, and Rehabilitation, Plateau Emergency Management Agency confirmed the inferno while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Jos on Thursday.

Wuyep, who is the Acting Executive Secretary of the agency, said the disaster occurred on Tuesday.


He said, however, that SEMA had been unable to assess the level of damage due to the paucity of funds.

“We don’t have funds even to fuel our vehicle to go to the camp to ascertain the cause of the inferno and assess the extent of the damage.

“We have gone everywhere even for a loan, but we have not succeeded.

“Hence, we cannot give the exact level of damage caused by the sad incident,” Wuyep said.

The Acting executive secretary described the incident as “a big loss to Plateau and Nigeria as a whole.’’

According to him, the camp was meant to house Displaced Persons that might be affected by future disaster in any part of the state.

Wuyep added that SEMA had already informed the Presidential Committee of the sad development.
“The committee told us to assess the damage and formally write a report informing them of the cause and extent of the damage.

“But like I said earlier, we are constrained by lack of funds,” he said.

Wuyep appealed to the State Government to empower the agency with funds to enable it to function according to the law establishing it.

He commended the State House of Assembly for its resolve to investigate the cause of the inferno.

Wuyep stated that the action was not just timely but necessary

Woman Who Lost Her Home In A Divorce Set It On Fire Destroying Other 20 Homes

A Georgia woman has been charged with 14 counts of first-degree arson after she set her home on fire when she lost it in a divorce, damaging 20 other homes in the process.

According to the state insurance and safety fire commissioner's office, 41-year-old Adrienne Satterly left her Rosemont Court house with her two cats but not before she set a pile of mattresses on fire in the kitchen.

The blaze destroyed four homes, two sustained significant damage and 14 other homes suffered varying degrees of heat and smoke damage.

She then walked to a Walmart an hour away on Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway before calling 911 at about 3.25am on Sunday, office spokesman Glenn Allen told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

In 911 audio obtained on Tuesday by The Constitution, Satterly never mentioned a fire. She told a dispatcher she had a 'kitty cat and a suitcase' and asked if someone could pick her up from Walmart.

'Where do you need them to go?' the dispatcher asked.

'To Greystone,' Satterly said. 'By the hospital.'

She gave her address to the Rosemont Court home but told the dispatcher that she had been ordered to leave the residence due to a case.

The Constitution says it is unclear from the audio if authorities ever picked Satterly up and took her home.

By the time firefighters arrived in the neighborhood of Hiram, the blaze had spread from Satterly's home to 19 others.

Deputy Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Jay Florence told Dallas Patch that because it was windy on Sunday, it contributed to how quickly the blaze spread.

The damage is estimated to surpass $1million, officials said.

Everyone got out of their homes safely, but one man suffered a minor ankle injury, authorities said.

A cat and two dogs from two neighboring homes died, however.

'I lost my two dogs, which is the hardest thing because material things can be replaced, but my dogs is my -- that breaks my heart,' neighbor Auzalea Godfrey said.

Satterly has been charged with 14 counts of first-degree arson and three counts of aggravated animal cruelty.

She remained jailed on Tuesday in Paulding County, where she is being held without bond.

First-degree arson is a felony with a penalty of one to 20 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $50,000.

Teacher Flog Student To Death In Zamfara

                             

A teacher at Government Day Secondary School Sankalawa in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara has allegedly flogged a student to death.

The incident was revealed on Wednesday by Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar-Gummi, Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

The deputy speaker, who spoke under matters of urgent public importance during the assembly’s sitting in Gusau, said that the house had received several reports on the issue.

According to him, another incident at Government Female Day Secondary School, Kwatarkwashi, has led to the injury of a student in the school after the Vice Principal allegedly subjected her to heavy punishment.


“These problems apart from discouraging our children from acquiring education, also revealed poor attitude to work on the part of teachers in this state,” Gumni said.

He urged the House to invite the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology to explain steps taken to address the issues.

The Speaker, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji described the actions of the teachers as unfortunate and vowed that the assembly would not allow the matter to pass.

“It is part of our responsibilities to ensure effective security and good learning atmosphere for our children for their future development, therefore, we cannot allow teachers to continue harassing our children from schools,” he said.

The Speaker directed the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology to invite the commissioner to appear before it on the matter. Meanwhile, the Assembly has passed into law the bill for the establishment of Zamfara State University, Talata-Mafara

Liberia's new President George Weah on Tuesday pledged to fight endemic corruption as he spoke about conditions in his "broke country" on the first day of an official visit to Paris.

The former international football star who, took office on January 22, is faced with a dire economic situation in Liberia following two civil wars and a deadly Ebola epidemic in 2013-2015.

"I inherited a country that is very broke, depleted by political malfeasance. We have to make sure that the things that happened will not happen again," Weah said.

Husband snatcher disgraced and abandoned after 1 year of marriage

In 2017, news hit the social media on the marriage of a Zambian teacher, Patricia Mwelwa, who allegedly snatched the rich husband of her friend. The marriage has just hit the rock as the man has allegedly abandoned the husband snatcher and returned to his wife.

The highly publicized wedding that caught many people’s attention after her then husband-to-be, surprised her with a brand new Range Rover, didn’t even last for more than a year.

According to Zambianwatchdog, a divorce certificate dated 12th February 2018, has been issued and delivered to the husband snatcher.

Davies has since taken the Range Rover back to his first wife and claims the entire episode was a mistake. He has since reconciled with his first wife and family.

It was widely reported in the year 2017 that Davies Mukumbwa left his wife and threw a big kitchen party for his girlfriend, Patricia Mwelwa, who coincidentally happened to be his wife’s best friend. The kitchen party was then followed by an elaborate wedding that shook the entire social media in the country.

According to reports Davies Mukumbwa and his wife had been having issues in their home and being the best friend of the woman, she had taken the decision to confide in her friend. It was even reported that the husband snatcher was a regular visitor in their home and she would always come in the disguise of mediating in the marital crisis that rocked her best friend’s home.

It came as a shock to the wife of the man as she came across the photos of her husband and her best friend across the social media when he hosted her too a lavish party, just some few weeks before the wedding.

Four Arrested For Murder Of PDP Chieftain In Rivers

Four out of the five suspects allegedly involved in the murder of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, Heaven Ihuigwe, were paraded on Tuesday at the State Police Command in Port Harcourt.

The late Ihuigwe was killed on September 16, 2017 in Rumuekini in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area by the suspects, who dumped his corpse in a cassava farm.

Until his death, Ihuigwe was the PDP chairman of Ward 16 in Ogbogoro community in Obio/Akor LGA.

Speaking with newsmen at the state police command on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Cyril Okoro, disclosed that men of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igwe, apprehended the suspected killers.


Okoro explained that the police had to douse the tension in the community over Ihuigwe’s murder by assuring the people that the killers would be fished out and made to face the law.

“Following a tip-off, men of the IGP Monitoring Unit arrested one Ifeanyi Okoro, 25 years old, residing at Omagwa community in the Ikwerre LGA. On interrogation, the suspect confessed to have been involved in the murder of the late Honourable.

“His confession led to the arrest of three others – Ajade Niyi, Austin Isotec and Chief Joseph Iwuoku aka Uduakonmiri, whose confession led to the arrest of the fourth suspect, Clement Yusuf, with one Yaye still at large,” the DCP said.

Explaining that the suspects had confessed to the crime, Okoro told newsmen that they would soon be charged to court.

According to him, one black Toyota Highlander, a Gionee M5 phone belonging to the deceased and some original land documents were recovered from the suspects.

The wife of the slain politician, Mrs. Salome Ihuigwe, expressed sadness that her husband was killed for no reason, saying she had been left alone to cater for their five children

KFC Closes More Than Half Of Its 900 UK Outlets Over Lack Of Chicken

KFC has closed more than half of its 900 UK outlets after delivery problems meant they ran out of chicken.

Last week, the fried chicken chain switched its delivery contract to DHL, which blamed "operational issues" for the supply disruption.

It was unclear when the delivery problems would be rectified, a KFC spokesperson said.

Workers are being encouraged to take holiday but would not be forced to do so, he added.

"Our teams are working flat out all hours to get the rest back up and running as soon as possible - but it's too early to say how long it will take to clear the backlog."

KFC has set up a web page where "fans" can find their nearest outlet that is still open.

It said that in the restaurants owned by the chain, staff on short-term contracts would be paid the average hours worked per day over the past 12 weeks, while those on salaries would be paid as normal.

However, 80% of KFC outlets are run on a franchise basis.

"Franchisees will be seeking their own independent advice, but we're encouraging them to adopt this policy too," said the chain.

Until last Tuesday, KFC's chicken was delivered by South African-owned distribution group Bidvest, which describes itself as "the leading supplier of logistical and supply chain solutions to the UK hospitality and restaurant sector".

But after the change in the contract, many of the food giant's outlets began running out of chicken products

A Jehovah Witness Died With Her Unborn Child Because Her Husband Won't Allow Blood Transfusion

A man, Ajayi Afolabi, has taken to Facebook to share the story of  how a pregnant woman died at Lagos General Hospital because her husband instructed doctors not to give her blood despite being in need of it. It's such a touching tale! How Ajayi narrated it...

So, I was at a General Hospital in Lagos while an heavily pregnant woman was rushed in on child labour. She was immediately taken to the theater and after some mins, one of the lead doctors came out to request for the husband of the pregnant lady.

DOC: Your wife is short of blood. She needs an immediate blood transfusion.

Husband: Same thing they said from the hospital she has been in the last 3 days of labour. We are Jehovah witness, we don’t accept unknown blood. CONTINUE....


DOC: This is highly important to save your wife’s life and the unborn baby.

Husband: We have worked for the lord with all our strength, he can’t fail us, she can’t die.

DOC: I may need to proceed forcefully if you don’t accept.

Husband: Then be ready to face the law in court.

So the doctor went back to the theater, asked the woman if she has another relative close by who can sign to receive blood while she was wheeled out of the theater. The woman cried with her pale eyes and begged the husband to allow the doctors transfuse but he refused bluntly. I was so angry and I walked up to him. Tried convincing but he was so adamant and stubborn.

Some mins later, the doctors asked him to take his wife to LUTH, for better health care facilities that could condole non blood transfusion. He was requested to get an ambulance for transportation. To my surprise, this nigga got a Volvo stretcher ambulance meant for dead people. Gosh, so angry at this point.

Called a couple of people around and I aided a quick release of a proper life saving ambulance. While wheeling this woman to the ambulance after wasting about 4hours, she gave up in tears and was later confirmed that the unborn baby also died.

Wow! What a wicked world in the name of a borrowed religion. Then the husband bursted into tears. I didn’t do much, I moved close, looked straight into his eyes, slapped and gave him a couple kicks which later threw the whole general hospital into chaos.

I later reminisced over it the following day and asked myself this questions; why would I allow my loved one die in the name of a religion? Should the religion save lives or kill?

Man loses custody of his 3 children who who were caught watching porn in Lagos

A mild drama ensued after a man tried pulling a stunt at a police station last week in Lagos state after losing custody of his children to his estranged wife. The man who was accused of abusing and beating his wife was said to have forcefully taken away his three children from his wife and dumped them with his own mother who in turn fed the children with insults and abuses.

According to Human Right Activist, Tina Happiness, the children were sexually abusing themselves after watching porn movie from their aunt’s handset who stay’s in the same house.

The matter was reported at the Police station in Isolo, Aswani Division as the case was charged to court within 48 hours.

It was joy all the way at the first hearing at the Magistrate Court 5, Agege Lagos as the mother was reunited with her children after three years of lament.

Tina Happiness Ukasoanya-Uche shared the news on her Facebook page, she wrote;

It was an interesting drama to behold as a man tried pulling a stunt at the police station last week. An abuser and woman beater, who forcefully took away three children from his wife and dumped them with his own mother.

Who in turn fed the children with insults and abuses. Again under her watch – the mother of the Abuser, these children were sexually abusing themselves after watching porn movie from their aunt’s handset.(their father’s sister) who stay’s in the same house.

My appreciation goes to the Nigerian Police Isolo, Aswani Division. The DPO CSP Alex Jamus, Woman ASP Victoria Uduebor, Woman Inspector Esther and others for their uncommon corporation in ensuing the case was charged to court within 48hrs.

Black Panther Hit The BoxOffice With $128M World Record

Disney-Marvel’s Black Panther movie is heading for a super-heroic $218 million debut over the four-day President’s Day weekend at 4,020 North American locations, estimates showed Sunday.

That number means that “Black Panther,” starring Chadwick Boseman and directed by Ryan Coogler, has doubled its original tracking in less than a month.

The film, which carries an estimated $200 million production cost, had been tracking to bring in between an impressive $100 and $120 million when first estimates emerged on Jan. 25.

Since then, “Black Panther” has become a must-see movie for many moviegoers, underlined when Thursday previews brought in $25.2 million, the largest Thursday night preview gross for a February opener and the second-largest preview gross for a Marvel film.

The film’s estimated three-day gross of $192 million is the highest debut ever for a February film and the fifth highest of all time.

Combined with an estimated international debut of $169 million from 69 percent of the international market, the estimated global debut stands at $361 million through Sunday.

“Black Panther” has demolished the record for the largest Presidents Day weekend, blowing past “Deadpool‘s” 2016 mark of $152 million.

Overall North American movie going for the four-day period should hit $300 million — far above the $278 million mark in 2016, according to comScore.

Paul Dergarabedian,senior media analyst with comScore, said:

”This is proof that the big screen experience may arguably be the most powerful platform of change in our society.

The emotional, communal, immersive and bigger than life theatrical experience has an impact that virtually no other medium can match.”

US website Variety.com reports that Comscore’s PostTrak survey of the audience showed outstanding numbers with 77 percent rating “Black Panther” as “excellent” and another 18 percent as “very good.”

Boseman portrays King T‘Challa, ruler of Wakanda, a technologically advanced society, who conflicts with Michael B. Jordan’s Eric Killmonger, who intends to take over the throne.

Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong‘o, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, and Daniel Kaluuya also star.
