Nigeria Customs Service on Thursday intercepted 40 feet containers, loaded with Tramadol and other dangerous drugs from India worth N7.318 billion.
The announcement of the seizure was made by Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), and it was further gathered that Customs officers also intercepted a helicopter and an aircraft from the United States of America over failure to provide End-User-Certificate and other documents.
Attempt by the importers to bribe Customs officers with over $400,000 (about N150million), to effect the release of just one container out of the 40 seized, it was gathered, was rebuffed by the officers. Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) who spoke to journalists, disclosed that three suspect, including Customs officers, who cleared the containers have been arrested for further investigation.
“The NCS is making concerted efforts to ensure that not only maximum revenue is collected, but also to safeguard the security and well-being of the citizenry.
“We are all aware of the dangers that the deliberate non-compliance to import and export procedures pose to our country as importers bring in all manner of items which put the security and health of the country at great risk.
“Terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements get hold of these un-custom goods such as controlled drugs to perpetrate their heinous activities. It is in line with the determination to fight this ugly trend that the Apapa Command of the Service intercepted 40 by 40 feet containers, mostly from India, laden with Tramadol and other pharmaceutical products with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N7,318, 978, 065.00.”
He added: “The Service achieved this feat through vigilance and intelligence gathering within the system as well as information from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), which is a strong ally of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). I commend the Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Monisola Adeyeye, and her management team for their collaboration in the attainment of this feat” he said.
He further disclosed that the one of the helicopters with registration number SN-BLI was intended for export, and was concealed in container number PONU7789246, while the second helicopter, a Cessna 182A, was imported into the country from the United States of America for unknown assignment.
Col. Hameed revealed that the first helicopter was falsely declared as 388 bags of cashew nuts, while the second was concealed in container number MRKU 4457663 before they were intercepted by some vigilant and patriotic officers of the command

Consequently the Magistrate Y. O Aro-Lambo, who stood in for Magistrate O. O. Oshin, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Woman Sues Unilever For Assault, Demands N100m

A former Procurement Manager, Marketing Materials, Central Africa with Unilever Nigeria Plc, Mrs Grace Okafor, has sued the company for alleged assault, demanding N100m in damages.

In the suit she filed before Justice Kazeem Alogba at the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere, Okafor wants the court to declare that Unilever was “vicariously liable for the unlawful and unjustifiable interference with the claimant’s person” by Mr Segun Oguntoyinbo, who works in Unilever’s Human Resources, Customer Development Department.

Oguntoyinbo was joined in the suit as the second defendant.

Okafor wants the court to declare that Oguntoyinbo “unlawfully and unjustifiably assaulted the claimant by putting the claimant in fear of physical interference and further hostilely applied force to the person of the claimant, thereby committing battery on the 16th February, 2017 within the 1st defendant’s premises and in the course of the 2nd defendant’s employment and duties.”

Okafor is also urging the court to declare that Unilever and Oguntoyinbo violated her right to personal liberty, guaranteed by the constitution, when they allegedly detained her unlawfully on Unilever’s premises.

She wants the court to compel the defendants to tender an immediate and formal apology to her and to pay her N100m in damages and another N1m, as the cost she expended in filing the suit.

Okafor, in her statement of claims, said trouble started sometime in October 2013, when in the course of her duty as then Unilever’s Procurement Manager, Marketing Materials, Central Africa, a supplier offered her a bribe which she turned down based on her moral principle and reported to her employer in line with the company’s code of policies.

She said based on her report, the said supplier was blacklisted by the company.

Displeased, the supplier, according to her, sued Unilever but the court gave judgment in Unilever’s favour.

She, however, said “in what appears to be a strong disapproval of the role played by the claimant in the blacklisting of the supplier, the claimant’s colleagues started bullying the claimant unjustifiably and the relationship she had prior to that time enjoyed with them got strained.”

She claimed that the alleged bullying eventually led to her being redeployed and demoted and eventually being sacked.

She claimed that she was assulted and battered by Oguntoyinbo on the company’s premises on February 16, 2017.

The case is pending before Justice Alogba

Tekashi69 arrested, may get life in prison over armed robbery charges

Image result for tekashi in court
Federal authorities have arrested rapper Tekashi69 on racketeering charges, which may see the 22-year-old rapper, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, get life in prison sentence.
The arrests appear to be connected to a shooting at a party last month on the Upper East Side
Among those arrested are the victim, Faheem “Crippy” Walter, who was shot during the fight, and Tekashi69’s recently-fired former manager, 36-year-old Kifano “Shotti” Jordan. Jensel “Ish” Butler was also arrested.
They are all charged with racketeering and firearms possession.
6ix9ine was detained without bail until a Tuesday bail hearing. Judge Henry Pitman cited the discovery of evidence from a gunpoint robbery and an automatic pistol found in his home as reason to deny bail.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Longyear said a backpack stolen during a gunpoint robbery in April was found during a raid at 6ix9ine’s Brooklyn residence, along with an automatic pistol.
“The defendant is quite violent,” the prosecutor said of a man whose debut album, Day 69, was among the most downloaded records on iTunes
Longyear said 6ix9ine was captured on surveillance video as he sat in a car and filmed the scene in Times Square when his co-defendants carried out a violent robbery against a rival gang member.
The prosecutor said he was also part of a video boasting about shots recently fired by a co-defendant in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
Longyear also said the rapper was a threat to flee because of his worldwide connections, hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and the knowledge that a conviction would bring a mandatory minimum sentence of 32 years in prison and as much as life.
Pitman ordered 6ix9ine held until a Tuesday bail hearing, saying he was concerned about the danger to the community, particularly because the rapper could direct others to carry out acts of violence.
6ix9ine was among five people charged in an indictment containing racketeering and firearms charges. The indictment alleged that he participated in the July shooting of a bystander in Brooklyn and the gunpoint robbery of one of his gang’s rivals last spring.
