Turai Yar’Adua’s Housekeeper Arrested Over N91million

The Police in Katsina State said it had arrested a 60-year-old housekeeper of Hajiya Turai Yar’adua, the wife of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua over missing goods worth N91m.

The State Commissioner of Police, Usman Abdullahi, said this while briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Katsina.

“The Police have arrested Alhaji Yusuf Sarkin-gida after a formal complaint by Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua to the police two weeks ago. The suspect is the custodian of all the keys and property of Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua for the past 40 years.

“There are 37 boxes in the custody of the suspect, but only 27 boxes are in the store.

“The several items in the 27 boxes are completely missing and the suspect has failed to give full explanation on the goods and items in the boxes,” he said.

NAN reports that the CP said the suspect had been serving the late Yar’Adua family for the past 40 years even before her husband became the governor and later the President of Nigeria.

Abdullahi said the suspect was in police custody where he was assisting them to conduct intensive investigation on the missing items.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Sarkin-gida’s family, Alhaji Mohammed Yusuf, said their father was innocent of the charge levelled against him.

He said the arrest and detention of their father before the Eld-el-Kabir celebration had thrown the family into confusion.

He appealed to human rights organisations to come to the rescue of their father.

One Of The Four Kidnapped Lagos Landlords Escapes

One of the four landlords kidnapped by gunmen in the Isheri North area of Lagos State has escaped from his captors.

It was learnt that the victim, who arrived at home on Tuesday, however, refused to discuss his ordeal with anyone.

Punch had reported that the masked gunmen emerged from the waterways while the victims were jogging around 8am on Saturday. The assailants were said to have shot into the air before taking away the four men in a speedboat.

A source has however told Punch that one of the men escaped on Tuesday.

He said, “He escaped from their midst because no ransom was paid. “He is scared and has kept to himself. The police have maintained visible presence in the community, but it is not certain they know where the kidnappers are.”

Another member of the community said some money was paid, adding that the victim arrived at the estate around 5am in a boat.

He said, “A large amount of money was paid by his family for his release; he didn’t escape. He was released at about 5am.”

Dogara Desperately Begged Us To Forgive Him- Jibrin

Abdulmumin Jibrin, former chairman house of representatives committee on appropriations, says Yakubu Dogara, the speaker, begged the north east caucus of the lower chamber for forgiveness over his alleged role in padding the 2016 budget.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, Jibrin said the budget was marred with so many frauds that he did not know of.

“My question to him is; did he connive with the principal officers to steal the N40 billion? There are so many frauds in the budget that I did not even know until now. The speaker took four projects to his farm, including a fielder road.” He added that he did not care if he was suspended, as he knew the risk he was taking.

But reacting to Jibrin’s statement, Abdulrazak Namdas, spokesman of the house, said the assertion by the former appropriations chairman is false.

Namdas explained that Dogara held the said meeting with leaders of the various caucuses of the house in the bid to find solutions for the country’s economic recession.

“The speaker decided to meet with leaders of all caucuses to discuss the way forward on the current recession and the way forward when the house resumes,” Namdas explained.

“The allegation the the speaker begged for forgiveness and members of northwest caucus passed a vote of no confidence on the chief whip Ado-Doguwa is not in anyway true. That the meeting was done in bad light is not true as well.

“Abdulmumin has made this allegations before, he has not said anything new. For him to allege that the car are meant to bribe members is not true. He has raised issue, so he should allow those people in charge do their job.” The spokesman said if Jibrin had a problem, he should present it to the house by way of motion.

Other legislators who flanked Namdas at the address, Amed Mustapha and Ahmed Safana told journalists that out of 24 lawmakers from Kano, 21 signed vote of confidence on Dogara.

They added that in the northeast, the Gombe caucus had passed a 100 percent confidence on the speaker.

N5.5m transferred to artisan’s bank account lands him in police trouble

An aluminium fabricator named Edadu Collins is currently in police trouble after N800,000 was wrongly transferred to his bank account and he went ahead and withdrew the money.

Collins, is facing a two-count charge of stealing preferred against him by the police.

A police prosecutor, Corporal Chinedu Njoku, however disagreed yesterday with the police report that the alleged amount Collins stole was N800,000 from Ecobank, insisting that the amount involved was N5.5 million, after proper investigation was carried out.


The defendant, who pleaded not guilty said he knew nothing about the bank issue.

Vanguard reports that Corporal Njoku told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences between January to March 2011 and is punishable under Sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

He told the court that  N800,000 was transferred to a wrong account, which happened to be the defendant’s and he did not deem it necessary to report to the bank, rather he went ahead and withdrew the money. He further told the court that the actual amount was N5.5 million, when it was investigated.

The defendant told the court that his account had been giving him problem and that he had to stop using it. According to Collins,

“I tried to renew the account, but it proved abortive. I thought it was the network but after a long while, the bank could not solve the problem and I had to abandon the account. “The bank attendant told me to pay some money into the account so that it can be rectified. The attendant later asked me to wait.”

The defendant further told the court that he asked the attendant several times to know what was happening,

“I was just told to calm down. By 7p.m., some men came and asked me to follow them. I asked where we were going, but none responded. I realised later that we were at the police station and there, they started asking me for the money.”

Collins told the policemen that he had not been using the account for a long time, but they got evidence that he withdrew from his account. Magistrate O. Olagbende granted him N100,000 bail  with two sureties in like sum.

Ahmed Mayowa reportedly buried in South Africa

31-year-old Shukurat Mayowa Ahmed, died in a private hospital in South Africa after battling with Ovarian cancer for a long time. She died on Sunday, August 21, 2016, and was said to have been buried in the country, according to Islamic injunction.

A source disclosed to Enconium Weekly that the need to bury the remains of Mayowa in South Africa where she finally gave up the ghost was not in any way connected with the inability of her family and those handling her pathetic situation to bring her corpse back to Nigeria as being bandied but largely due to the fact that she was a muslim and there was no need delaying her burial anymore.

According to a Facebook user who posted the sordid act on his wall, Sly Idoko, the incident sent shock waves through the area after the man who is a grandfather was caught raping the girl after he had lured her into the bush.

It was gathered that the parents of the girl noticed that she was not outside their house playing with her mates and they raised an alarm, prompting some youths in the area to go in search of the child.

Such was their shock when they caught the elderly man naked on top of the girl. He was said to have been beaten up severely just as others were busy taking photos of the shameless man.

The actress, 41, filed for divorce from her husband of two years — and partner of 12 — on Monday, according to TMZ.

The Oscar winner cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split. But the website reports that Jolie filed for divorce over the way Pitt, 52, was raising the children.

“She was extremely upset with his methods,” sources told TMZ. 

We are told there was no alleged "third person", her decision to file was solely over Brad's interaction with their children.

In the legal docs, Jolie requests physical custody of the couple’s six children and is not asking for spousal support.

Minister Of Women Affairs Collapses In Adamawa

Hajiya Aisha Alhassan, the Minister of Women Affairs yesterday collapsed at the Internally Displaced Persons’ camp in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State while addressing vulnerable IDP women inside a store in the camp, it has been said.

Tension In Abia As Policemen Allegedly Beat 70-Year Old To Death

There has been tension in Amaekpu Ohafia community in the Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State following a clash between youths of the community and policemen attached to the area over the killing of a 70-year-old hunter, Chief Kalu Okowu, aka Crossca.

It was gathered that some policemen had beaten the victim to death while trying to arrest him for allegedly injuring a fellow hunter during a hunting expedition.

A source described Okowu as a jovial, caring and peace-loving man, who was not known for trouble in the community.


He added that some months back, Crossca, who was the Chairman of Ohafia Hunters Association, a registered group with the Ohafia council, went on a hunting expedition with some of his colleagues when the incident occurred.

The source said, “Some pellets hit one of his colleagues, Agwu Oba, alias Aliko, in the leg. He was taken to Ebem Hospital, where he was treated and later discharged.”

Aliko was alleged to have reported the case to the police, which led to the arrest of the hunters who were with him when the shooting incident happened.

“They broke into Okowu’s house and allegedly hit him with guns. In the process, he collapsed. Efforts by doctors to revive him failed and he was taken to another hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical team at the hospital.

“Okowu’s death angered some youths, who descended  on policemen in the area. But some soldiers were alerted and they intervened,” the source explained.

The traditional ruler of Amaekpu Ohafia, Prof. Emea Arua, called for calm in the community, assuring that the perpetrators of the dastardly act would be prosecuted according to the law.

But the widow of the deceased, Kalu Nnoke, urged the government to ensure that justice was served on those found culpable as a way of assuaging the spirit of her late husband.

A twenty-five year-old man, Matthew Iyede, has been stabbed to death by three friends over an alleged disagreement over a girlfriend at Eku, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday morning at a popular drinking bar, Blue Sea Restaurant and Bar, in Eku, near Delta State University Abraka.

According to Punch, the victim died immediately, following multiple stabs he sustained on his chest.

It was gathered that the late Matthew was ambushed by armed youths alleged to have been led by one Ese Uku. Ese was alleged to have warned the victim to steer clear of the girl whom Matthew had reportedly been dating for long.

 The victim’s relative, Victor Iyede, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the phone. Victor claimed that his brother was killed over a girl he had been dating.

Victor said, “Matthew was stabbed at a plaza closer to Eku Town hall. He was stabbed over a girl. Those involved are at large. Their names have been submitted to the police.”

 The spokesman of the Delta State Police Commander, SP Celestina Kalu, confirmed the incident when contacted. She said two of the suspects had been arrested by the police in Abraka.

 “The vigilante group, in collaboration with the Police, arrested two suspects in respect of the case. The names of the suspects are Kevwe Edward (21 years old) and Lucky Grant (19 years old). The suspects will be transferred to SCIIDC for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution,” Kalu said.

 She added that Matthew’s corpse has been deposited at the Eku General hospital pending further investigation by the police.
