Police in Lagos, yesterday, placed a N30 million bounty on the head of wanted notorious kidnapper, identified simply as Evans.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, told newsmen
yesterday, “we are encouraging Nigerians to blow the whistle on this
kidnapper.
“Whoever blows the whistle that will lead to his arrest will get a N30
million reward, as stated by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim
Idris.”
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command had traced the wanted
kidnapper to his hideout at Igando area of Lagos last Friday, but he
fled before their arrival, abandoning a catchment of arms.
The recovered arms included four AK-47 riffles; two automatic pistols;
four magazines loaded with 60 rounds of ammunitions each; 1,272
ammunition, 59 AK-47 ammunition; a police bullet-proof vest; a Toyota
Hiace bus, suspected to be the gang’s operational vehicle, and a
motorcycle.
Speaking with journalists yesterday, Lagos State Police Commissioner,
Fatai Owoseni, disclosed that another kidnappers den was uncovered at
Ijegemo creeks, Festac Town, with the recovering of some arms and
ammunition.
Like the Igando raid, no arrest was made as the kidnappers, who
apparently sighted the operatives from far, fled the creeks in their
speed boats.
However, he disclosed that two suspects, who were later arrested, confessed to be members of Evan’s kidnap gang.
Owoseni said: “Evans has been on the wanted list of the Police in Anambra, Edo and Lagos states, for four years.
The suspects arrested have given us valuable information, which the
Command is working on to ensure that he is apprehended by all means.
“The Command is already doing what is necessary in accordance with the
laws of Lagos State on kidnapping. That is by taking over the house used
by Evans to keep abducted victims or demolish it.”

Sex Tape Scandal-Benzema Slam Valbuena
Karim Benzema has torn into Mathieu Valbuena, accusing his former France team-mate for continuing to tell lie in the aftermath of the sex tape scandal that froze both men out of the national team. The Real Madrid striker, who remains in the international wilderness, said Valbuena's 'lies' are 'making him mad' and that his reputation has been dragged through the mud.
Benzema was excluded from France's European Championship squad last year and hasn't played for the national team since after being charged for an alleged attempt to blackmail Valbuena over a sex tape that was leaked to certain individuals in 2015.
In December, a court in Versailles rejected Benzema's appeal to stop the trial and the affair has rumbled on since Benzema was first charged with conspiracy to blackmail back in November 2015.
Now, speaking to French newspaper L'Equipe, a frustrated Benzema has hit out at Valbuena, who has taken trouble not to speak about the affair.
Benzema said: 'There's really something wrong with him... it's all part of his story.
'When I hear him say that he's ready to play with me again. To hear him at the beginning, I'm scum, I threatened him, I scared him, all you can invent... And now he wants to play with me!
'He said he would not have lodged a complaint if he knew I was involved in the story.
'For more than a year-and-a-half I'm his worst enemy, a bad guy, a thug, I have to be punished, dragged in the mud, my name and that of my family, in the dirt.'
The Real Madrid man also said he has not seen close friend Karim Zenati, who was also allegedly involved in the plot, since the scandal began.
Benzema said: 'It has been almost two years since I was forbidden to see my best friend, if we do we go to prison, and he is quiet, but he must stop this crap, and I do not know why he keeps talking about me already.'
On Valbuena, he said: 'I am his enemy, I wanted to take money from him - he really has to stop inventing, it makes me mad he keeps on lying!
'Sex tape? He just had to tell the truth about what really happened.'
Valbuena on his on side said that he was 'deeply disappointed' someone he considered a friend and trusted team-mate might be involved in the alleged plot.
The Lyon player, 32, has kept his counsel since then as police built a case based partly on recording of phone conversations between the alleged blackmailers.
Command To Arraign Lagos DPO Who Killed Apprentice
The Lagos State Police Command says it is rounding off plans to
prosecute the Divisonal Police Officer, Ijeshatedo Police Station, CSP
Mohammed Yakubu, who allegedly shot dead a tailor apprentice, Jamiu
Ayoade.
The command stated that investigations into the case would be concluded this week, adding that Yakubu would be arraigned thereafter.
The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who gave the update on Tuesday, warned other DPOs in the state to caution their men or be ready to be held responsible for their official misconducts.
He also confirmed the story of a police armourer attached to the Ipakodo Police Station, Sergeant Sunday Odu, who was said to have sold 750 pieces of ammunition from the division’s armoury and replaced them with pebbles.
Owoseni spoke during a meeting with senior officers of the command at POWA Secretariat, Ikeja.
Punch Metro had reported that the DPO had around 7.30pm on Sunday, May 7, led some policemen to Wosilatu Daudu Street, Ijeshatedo, where Ayoade was attending his friend’s birthday party.
The operatives, who raided the area, shot into the air to disperse the gathering.
Yakubu reportedly chased Jamiu and other fun seekers into a building and shot him in the head at a close range. The 23-year-old was said to have bled to death while he was being taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba. One Akeem also sustained a gunshot injury in the hand.
The command subsequently detained the DPO and commenced investigations into the incident.
Owoseni on Tuesday said Yakubu had violated rules of engagement during the raid on the area, adding that he would be arraigned upon the completion of administrative processes on the case.
He said, “I don’t know what he was thinking that could have made him (the DPO) to shoot at somebody in the crowd. He would be arraigned in court; no doubt about that. For any civilian that is killed unjustifiably, my emotion can’t take it. I feel the pain of the family of that boy. Why should I defend anybody that kills?
“There are administrative processes to be followed, which are almost complete. Probably, it will be completed by the end of this week and the DPO will be arraigned in court.”
Lamenting the misconduct of some operatives of the command, the CP asked the DPOs to curtail the excesses of the cops under them. He said, thenceforth, DPOs would be held liable for atrocities committed by officials under their supervision.
He said, “Caution your men. How can you be friends with people when policemen are on the road brutalising and extorting money from them? I don’t collect returns from any DPO.
“From today (Tuesday), for any act of misconduct that happens in your area, you will be held responsible…if you fail to submit yourself, I will come to arrest the policeman that commits the offence. You (DPO) and the offender will be paraded before the press. You will be redeployed and queried.”
He also urged policemen to be modest in dealing with members of the public and to follow ethics of the force to the letter.
“Don’t shout at people. You have to weigh the kind of danger your life is exposed to before you use weapons. Whenever force is used by a policeman, the incident should immediately be reported and reviewed by superior officers,” he added.
Owoseni said the sergeant who sold the ammunition attempted to kill two senior officers assigned to investigate the crime.
He said, “He attempted to kill a CSP and a SP that went to check the armoury. Some ammunition and pebbles were seen in the armoury that is supposed to contain about 750 pieces of ammunition.”
Meanwhile, the police have declared a leader of a notorious kidnapping gang, Donaltus Evans, wanted.
It was said that the anti-kidnapping team of the command had stormed the gang’s hideout in a bungalow on Ataye Street, in the Igando area of the state, and recovered four AK-47 rifles, two automatic pistols and four magazines with 15 rounds of ammunition.
Owoseni said, “Some 1,272 pieces of live ammunition, one police bullet-proof and a Toyota Hiace, were also recovered during the operation. Two suspects were arrested.
“The police in Lagos, Anambra, Edo and Delta states have been searching for this notorious gang. The command is working seriously to ensure that Evans is apprehended. He has been on our wanted list for three years. The state government and the police are working on a very handsome reward for information that can lead to his arrest and that of other members of the gang.”
