Three policemen killed during attack on Edo zoo (Photos)

Tragedy struck in Benin, the Edo State capital, yesterday, as three policemen providing security at the Ogba Zoo were shot dead by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

Director and Chief Executive of the Ogba Zoo and Nature Park, Dr. Andy Ehanire, was abducted by the gunmen. The three policemen were killed at about 6p.m., while their arms and ammunition were taken by the attackers.

It was gathered that the killing disrupted activities at the zoo as parents and children took to their heels on hearing the sporadic gunshots from the invaders.

Edo State Police spokesman, DSP Moses Nkombe, said the attackers will soon be arrested as security has been beefed up, adding “our men are on the trail of the suspects and we will get them no matter how far they try to run.

When asked how he and his ex-wife Damilola Adegbite balanced their marriage, son and work, he said: 


"I believe throughout our marriage, It has probably been one of the most challenging things we have ever done, however, the key word is balance. At times when we both had to work, our parents would be there to hold the fort. God bless family because they were and still are very supportive.
However, since the divorce, we are obviously now reworking things to create a new balance between work, spending time with and raising our son. Dami is a wonderful woman and an amazing mother. Despite our differences, she and I will always be friends. So more than anything, we will find ways to continue to make sure that Brian can still have a balanced upbringing filled with love and support. Both our families have been and are still very supportive in helping us take care of our son Brian when we can’t be there due to work."

Man Beats 3-Yr-Old Step-Daughter To Death

A middle-aged man, Akilu Alhaji Saidu, has allegedly beaten to death his three-year-old step-daughter, Saratu Yahuza.

Saidu has since been arrested and detained by the Katsina State Police Command. The incident occurred when Saidu was said to have dragged her into an uncompleted building in Yankara village of Faskari Local Government, where he allegedly beat, twisted and broke her neck.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the development, said one Yahuza Yakubu, purported to be the biological father of the girl, reported the case at the Police Station in Faskari.


 Isah said the suspect had since confessed to the crime and during investigation, told the Police investigators that he acted under the influence of psychotropic substances.

 Isah said the deceased was rushed to Funtua General Hospital, where a doctor confirmed her dead.

Female corps member renovates orphanage in Ibadan (Photos)

A serving 2016/17 batch B, stream 1 corps member, Miss Susan Abraham, in Oyo state (OY/16B/0950), has given a added laughter and joy to the Mercy of God Home, Iwo road, Ibadan, by renovating the orphanage home.

She renovated the buildings and provided 14 mattresses, foodstuffs such as bags of rice, garri, provisions, and toiletries for the home.

The Corps member said that the aim was to provide major needs for the home, make it visible to public awareness.

She said the need to reach out to the less privileged was strong within her, stressing that she decided to kick-start the idea by celebrating her birthday at the orphanage.

“In my search for an orphanage, I came across one where the children live with polio, the condition is one of the poorest standards of living one can come across, and their illness is worsening and endangering the lives of their caregivers.

“Only two women using their personal funds to run the home with little support from the society,” she said.

Abraham noted that the project was done as a personal community development service as one of the four cardinal points of the National Youth Service Corps.

She, however, pointed out that some organisations, individuals and religious bodies gracefully supported the project.

The corps member thanked God for the success of the project and the opportunity to impact on the lives of such citizens and the Oyo state NYSC, Mercy of God Home for giving her the chance to do the project.

“This project can only be sustainable if the government takes over the responsibility of the home,” she said.

While speaking at the university of Edinburgh novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has said that Dieziani’s case would not be capitalised if she was a man because stealing money is a norm practiced by Nigerian politicians.
She said: 

“We shouldn’t assume, that because a person is born a woman, that person is somehow is just one step lower than angel.

“I find it quite dehumanizing for women because what is means is that women cannot be judged on the same terms as men.

“I remember once a ploitician in nigerian who was a woman had stolen money which is an exercise most nigerian politicians are very adept at.

Crowd Storm Apple Store as It Releases Iphone 8 Today, Others Await Iphone X

                          
The Apple iPhone 8 launched today around the world, but queues appear to have been smaller than previous years. Normally, Apple fans wait for days at a time to get their hands on a new smartphone.
But fewer tech lovers waited outside Apple stores this morning, which could suggest many of the diehard fans were holding off to buy the ultra-premium iPhone X, which is due to be released later in the year.

However, this not necessarily evidence that Apple has failed to sell huge numbers of the iPhone 8 and larger iPhone 8+.

Many fans now choose to pre-order devices, which are then delivered to their homes on launch day.

Others book 30-minute appointments at times which are staggered throughout the day.

There is some evidence which suggests online sales have been brisk.                              
At the time of writing, about two-thirds of the various iPhone models and configurations are not available for immediate delivery and can only be posted out in up to two weeks' time - suggesting a large number of pre-orders have been made ahead of launch day.

Speaking on Thursday night while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Anambra State, Ifeanyi Ubah, says he has not made any gain in his entire life from the Party.

His allegation comes few hours after he was suspended by the National Working Committee of the Party over what they described as “disparaging and unfounded” claims against some party members and elders.

Ubah, who also ‎accused the Party of injustice, said:
“I am not doing this because of myself, I have not for once gained one single thing from PDP in my entire life and I stand to be challenged if PDP can tell anybody anything that they gave to me.

“I want Nigerians to know that also, even before I presented this case to the public, I personally presented it to the former president (Goodluck Jonathan).

“When you are presenting a clean, clear case before the panel, and after that they still uphold injustice, so, they are still digging their graves. I am not in this business to castigate anybody but I am here to seek justice.

“Impunity must stop, our electoral processes must strictly be adhered to with laydown rules according to the constitution of the party.

“Let nobody blame me today and I complained, I sent texts to every PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) member about the impunity and nobody did anything,” he alleged.

The 2 women and the man suing Usher have filed new legal docs. The woman who has not divulged her identity now says she had sex with Usher at least twice and, after contracting herpes from him, her twins were stillborn. She says stillbirth is a direct consequence of giving birth while infected with herpes.

According to the docs, Usher has refused to stipulate that he has herpes and he has also refused to take an STD test.

Teenage Single Mother Hanged Self After Her Ex-Boyfriend Ignored Texts She Sent To Him

A teenage single mother hanged herself after her ex-boyfriend ignored a string of texts she sent to him threatening to kill herself.

Chloe Hiller, 17, sent her former sweetheart 37 messages some of which read: 'I can't do this anymore. I hang myself on Friday.' She also told him she planned to buy rope and asked him whether it was possible to buy rope from a garage.

But the boy, also 17, didn't take her warnings seriously and failed to raise the alarm. Chloe was later found hanged at a park near her home in Blackpool, Lancashire, having told staff at a mother and baby unit she felt 'sh***y'.

Police investigated Chloe's ex-boyfriend for possible charges of aiding and abetting her suicide but no action was taken against him. When questioned by detectives he refused to give up Chloe's pin code to her phone.


Officers later accessed the device anyway and found the messages plus photos depicting superficial self-harm marks on a girl's body. They could not be sure the pictures were of Chloe.

At an inquest in Blackpool, the dead girl's family shook their heads in disbelief as a coroner cleared the boy of wrongdoing and ordered he be granted anonymity because of his age. He was not at the hearing.

Chloe's mother, Louise Hiller told the inquest how her daughter was a 'shy girl and an amazing mum' but had been struggling in the months after the birth of her son.

She said: 'I noticed that she was keeping the curtains shut, sitting in the dark and not going out.

'She wasn't wearing make up and her hair was greasy. I believe her ex-boyfriend did used to beat her. She had bruises. She would tell me that it was a door handle or things like that but it really did affect her. I was so concerned about it that I reported it to the police.'

Recording a conclusion of suicide, Coroner Alan Wilson said: 'With regard to her ex boyfriend and him aiding or abetting in the suicide, while it is clear there were text messages between them it is not enough that it satisfies the necessary standard of proof.

'There may have been issues in terms of morality with regards to a lack of response to the text messages that he received but he could have had no way of assessing or believing or could have expected that Chloe would act in the way that she did. I cannot determine criminal liability.

The decision of this court is to consider evidence into the sad and tragic circumstances of Chloe's death of Chloe Hiller.

'It is clear that her relationship was having an impact on her and the issues contributed to her intention to end her life.'

France Denies Housing IPOB Financial HQ

France has denied information that the Financial headquarters of the proscribed Indeginous People of Biafra (IPOB) is located in that country.

Political Counsellor, Claude Abily of the Embassy of France in a statement made to newsmen in Abuja yesterday said it is shocked by the statement attributed to Minister of Information, Lai Mohamed which claimed that the financial headquarters of IPOB is in France.

Abily in the statement said France is ready to cooperate with Nigeria to investigate the veracity of the Federal government's claim, adding that France as a country have been given support to Nigeria in tackling her security challenges.


France also in the statement declared support for the unity of Nigeria. The statement read, "The Embassy of France was surprised by the statement made yesterday by the Minister of Information and Culture indicating that the "financial headquarters" of IPOB were in France.

"We don't have any knowledge of a particular presence of IPOB in France and the Nigerian authorities never got in touch with the Embassy on this point.

"We stand ready to examine any information which could support this statement.

"Furthermore, we would like to reiterate that France actively cooperates with Nigeria in the field of security and that we strongly support the unity of the country.

How a Zamfara State corp member slumped, died while playing basketball (photos)

                       A 29-year-old corp member serving in Zamfara State and graduate of Enugu State University Technology (ESUT), Uzochukwu Chinevu reportedly slumped and died on September 17, while playing basketball.
Ejiofor Emmanel, friend of the deceased who will buried in his hometown, Igbo-Etiti, Enugu State on Monday, September 25, wrote;

Couple cancels wedding ceremony last minute on wedding day, donates over N10m reception to homeless (Photo)

A couple who cancelled their ceremony on the wedding day has opted to donate the $30,000 reception venue and the expensive food to the homeless people nearby.

25-year-old Sarah Cummins and her fiancée had cancelled the wedding ceremony at the last minute on their wedding day, without giving any reasons whatsoever.

The pharmacy student of Purdue University and her then husband-to be had prepared a reception that was meant to sit approximately 170 guests.

Fantastically decorated, it’s the sort that dream weddings are made of.

However, once the would-have-been couple arrived at a decision to call off the wedding, they decided they throw open the reception venue to the homeless people in a facility nearby.Sarah Cummings, being embraced by a guest. Alux photo.

Her idea, to invite people from four area homeless shelters to enjoy the 170-person reception, was well received.

“For me, it was an opportunity to let these people know they deserved to be at a place like this just as much as everyone else does,” Sarah said.

“It’s a great opportunity to spread love. Being homeless is kind of a big loss for all of these guys. This is just a very nice thing to do,” she added.

Philippines President Orders Police To Execute son If Found Guilty Of Drugs

Rodrigo Duterte has ordered police to carry out the standard procedures of his controversial war on drugs campaign even if his son is found guilty of criminal activities.

The Philippines president sparked international criticism for his strong anti-drugs stance, that has seen more than 9,000 civilians killed for links to drug dealing and use.

His eldest son, Paolo, has been accused as being a member of a Chinese organised crime syndicate and allegedly overseeing a drug-smuggling and drug lord protection scheme.

'My orders are to kill you if you are caught, and I will protect the police who kill you,' Mr Duterte said he told his 42-year-old son.


Paolo faced the Philippines Senate earlier this month accused of being involved with the triad gang, allegations he described as 'baseless' and founded upon 'rumours'.

He allegedly helped facilitate more than a tonne of ice being shipped into the country which has been ravaged by abuse and addiction.

In 2016, a retired policeman and former criminal accused Paolo of being the mastermind behind the operation. The claims were never proven.

During the hearing, he was asked by opposition Senator Antonio Trillane to remove his shirt and display a large tattoo on his back that allegedly proved he was a member of a Chinese faction.

Paolo acknowledged he has a tattoo on his back but refused to remove his shirt and show the hearing.

Senator Trillane also produced a report by an anti-smuggling group that claims they received intelligence that Paolo was also involved in the illegal importation of luxury cars and other items.

His father was asked about the case during a speech to workers at his palace in Manila Wednesday, where he confirmed he would hold his family to the same standards and would have no problem killing them.

President Duterte says he wants police to carry out normal procedures should his son be found guilty, to remain consistent and 'so the people can't say anything against me'.

'That's better… so I can say to people, 'There, you keep talking. That's my son's corpse'.'

EFCC Arrests Graduate For Duping American Firm

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos zonal office, has arrested a suspected Internet fraudster, Ake Oluseun, for tax fraud, otherwise known as Ijoba in local parlance.

The 30-year-old suspect, a graduate of Computer and Information Science, was arrested in Lagos, following intelligence report.

The release signed by the commission’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said sometime in January this year, the suspect, who owns Canbit Music, Canbit Resources (Nig.) Limited, Istartup Enterprise and Volta Company, allegedly sent an email to an employee of an American company requesting for the W-2s of the staff.


”The W-2 form shows the reports of an employee’s annual wages and the amount of taxes withheld from his or her paycheque, which an employer sends to his or her employees and the Internal Revenue Services, IRS.

”The suspect, who impersonated the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of the American company, was alleged to have received 790 ( Seven Hundred and Ninety) W-2s from the staff, which he sold to some anonymous buyers in the ‘dark world’.

”The ‘dark world’ is an illegal method of cash remittance across countries and does not involve physical movement of cash”, the statement said.

Mr. Oluseun, who is also being investigated for Business E-mail Compromise, BEC, was allegedly paid with e-currency such as bitcoins and perfect money.

Also, the suspect was alleged to have printed some American bank cheques, which he presented as evidence of payment to his victims online.

Items recovered from the suspect according to the statement include American cheques, three external hard drives, mobile phones, two laptops, Spectranet Router, flash drives, printer and USB modems.

Investigation revealed that ‘Ijobak is a new type of phishing, which attempts to lure human resources, accounting and payroll staff of a company to disclose the W- 2s of all the employees in the company.

The suspect will soon be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
