Unknown Gunmen Kidnap Kogi Magistrate

A magistrate with Kogi State judiciary, Sam Nwuchola, has been abducted by unknown gunmen. He was said to have been abducted along Itobe – Ajaokuta Road on Thursday.

A source in the state judiciary told journalists on Friday in Lokoja, the state capital, that the kidnappers had contacted the wife of the kidnapped magistrate and demanded N100m ransom.

According to an eyewitness, while abducting the magistrate, the kidnappers also shot at a man who sat beside him in the car. The bullet was said to have shattered the victim’s cheek bones while his left eye was grazed by the bullet. Reports said on Friday that the victim was still receiving treatment at a hospital in the state.


Punch correspondent gathered that pleas by Nwuchola’s wife that her husband be released had failed as the kidnappers refused to yield to her request, instead, they hung up on her.

When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ali Janga, said the police was still investigating the matter.

Man To Die By Hanging For Murder, Armed Robbery In Ekiti

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti on Friday has sentenced one Kolawole Oluwasola to death by hanging.

Kolawole, a middle-aged man, bagged the sentence over robbery and murder case which was established that he committed on the April 13, 2016 at Sabo area, Aramoko-Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Government Area of the state.

He was charged for stabbing one Yahaya Sumaila with a knife and also strangulated him to death.

Kolawole was also docked for snatching the victim’s motorcycle after which he fled to Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.


Nemesis however caught on him as the police interceded him on the suspicion of the motorcycle and arrested him.

The Court said during investigation, the defendant made a confessional statement to the crime and took the team of policemen to the scene of the crime where the rotten body of Ismaila was found.

The State Counsel, Mrs Bunmi Ajumobi called six witnesses to prove her case beyond reasonable doubt while the counsel for the defendant, Mrs Amina Baderinwa also called the defendant who gave evidence in his own case.

The court held that the offence of Armed Robbery and Murder are both punishable with death upon conviction.

Justice John Adeyeye said that the defendant will pay the supreme price prescribed for the commission of the offense of murder and armed robbery.

The presiding Judge affirmed that the court had listened to the evidence of prosecution witnesses as well as evidence of the defendant.

Justice Adeyeye held that State counsel has however proved the case of Murder and Armed Robbery beyond reasonable doubt.

He therefore condemned Kolawole to death by hanging

Brazilian Police Foil The Biggest Robbery In Sao Paulo

Brazilian police have foiled an audacious plot to steal £250m ($331m) from a bank in São Paulo via a 500-metre underground tunnel complete with electric lighting and a ventilation system.

Investigators say the gang planned to break into a São Paulo branch of the government-owned Banco do Brasil through the tunnel, which had been dug from a nearby rented property.

Several bullet-proof cars, suspected of having been prepared as getaway vehicles, have been impounded as part of the police operation.

                              

“It would have been the world’s biggest heist,” said Fabio Pinheiro Lopes, the police chief of Brazil’s financial capital.

“They are an extremely dangerous and organized gang with a long history, including some violent crimes like homicide. If you look at their ages most are above thirty five – well above the age of your average Brazilian criminal,” he added.

                                

Sixteen suspects were arrested at a warehouse on Monday night in the northern suburbs of the city, where the gang stored tools to dig the tunnel and tracks to remove the money. Altogether, police say 20 members of the gang invested 200k Brazlian reais each – a total of 4m reais for the robbery. Police monitored the group for at more than two months.

The tunnel, which allegedly took four months to build, was illuminated and ventilated and supported by wood and iron. Police are looking for a woman that rented the house for the gang using false identity.

The gang reportedly invested £750,000 to fund the construction of the tunnel and other logistics.

Police allege the leader of the gang was Alceu Ceu Gomes Nogueira, a 35-year-old man implicated in an attempted robbery of a security van in Paraguay. The court ruled the group be held in pre-trial detention. The group dug the tunnel by hand, loading the soil into sacks and carrying it through a fork in the tunnel to an underground storm water drain.

To enter the tunnel, gang members descended a two meter ladder from one of the rooms in the rented house. The tunnel was about 1.5 meters high and was reinforced with iron beams and wood, and was even wired with lights. The walls were lined with plastic garbage bags to reduce the dust. The house was reportedly filled with food, water, special clothing and digging tools.

Police were probing whether the gang had the assistance of a engineer when building the tunnel. The tunnel renewed memories of a tunnel robbery 12 years ago when thieves made off with about US$ 70 million.

On that tunnel, diggers worked in shifts from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m., taking a break on weekends. Three gang members involved in that attempt were involved in two separate prison escapes using tunnels equipped with ventilation and lighting.

                                

Judge orders arrest of Police Officer listed as witness in Seun Egbegbe’s case

               

Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court in Lagos, reportedly ordered the arrest of a police officer, Bello Abubakar, listed as the first prosecution witness in the case of a Nigerian film maker, Olajide Kazeem, better known as Seun Egbegbe, who was charged with serial frauds involving N39, 098,100, $90,000 and £12,550.The Judge issued a bench warrant against Abubakar, ordering that he must be produced before her on October 11 to continue his testimony as police prosecutor, Innocent Anyigor, told the judge that Abubakar had gone out of jurisdiction, adding that all his efforts to bring him to court on Thursday failed.

Punch reports that Justice Oguntoyinbo berated the police prosecutor for the poor handling of the case, in which Seun Egbegbe, Ayomide, Lawal Kareem, Olalekan Yusuf and Muyideen Shoyombo were accused of defrauding no fewer than 30 Bureau De Change operators, by falsely representing to the victims that they had foreign currencies to sell to or buy from the BDC operators.

Actress Caroline Danjuma has reacted to reports that late Tagbo is the father of her third child, Elizabeth. She also gave more details about Tagbo’s death, how she sent Davido messages before she called him out and more.

“I really cant believe that I am talking about Tagbo like this because he was not one who liked publicity.

Firstly I would like to address this whole razzmatazz about David killing Tagbo and that i said so,i never said but yes,i did call out Davido to know the whereabouts of Tagbo but i never said he killed him,i never used that word”Killed Tagbo”.

The last time i heard from Tagbo was on Monday when i just got back from MFM Church praise and worship which took about 7-8 hours Around part 8pm to ask me where I was::I had invited him for the programme but he didnt show up..he called and asked where i was and when i said i was home,he said he was coming over.

I was tired but didnt want to sleep off because if Tagbo comes he would ring the bell.so i went upstairs to watch CNN to keep myself awake until he comes and for some reason i slept off and woke up by part 1am or 2am and as you know the normal ritual was to call your friends the next day when they are celebrating their birthday.

I felt bad that i had not called Tagbo because Tuesday was his birthday.I tried calling him but his number was switched off but i thought it was network and continued trying but it was switched off and i concluded that maybe his battery was down.

I sent him a text message to wish him Happy Birthday and i went to bed.
I woke up at5-6am to do my normal routine and looked at my phone and there was no missed call or reply to my SMS:They day went on and I kept trying his number but until 3pm his number was switched off..

I was out at the Bank when Tagbos childhood friend called me and said that he wanted to talk about tagbo,he was just asking random questions.
I told him i would call him back.I am aware that Tagbo was trying to do his Schengen visa so i called the guy helping him out to ask if she had heard from him but she said Tagbo was supposed to deliver some documents but had not.

I got home and called Kola back around 4pm and this was when Kola revealed to me that Tagbo was dead…I thought it was a joke because Tagbo does not drive carelessly,he doesn’t fight,he is not one to be seen in a place where people are fighting..if he is angry he walks away.
I was confused.

I decided to call the mum to find out if he went to Anambra to see his mum like he said he would to collect some documents…So i called the mum and she said she had not seen Tagbo.
I sent the sister a message that i heard Tagbo was dead and she should help me find out if it was true.The sister replied asking ”how when and where” and then i knew that she was unaware.

So i decided to call my neighbour who was also Tagbos friend and my neighbour who was holidaying in Lebanon called me back and said that there was a bet of 200k and that Tagbo drank about 50 shots of tequila and i said that cannot be true.Tagbo cannot drink even a glass of hennessey because he has a light brain like me .

So a guy who cannot drink this much cannot finish 50 shots of tequila..Tagbo does not need 200k to do that.
He comes from a very wealthy background so he does not need that kind of bet,he is not hungry for that.I was shattered to hear such a news,I went into my office and sat down.

I tried to find out where Tagbo was and Kola said he had been trying his best to find out but that each time he calls the people would drop the phone on him or tell him they would call back.
So for one hour and despite trying severally,we had not gotten any info to where Tagbos body was or what hospital he was taken to…

Tagbos friend chucks made some calls and found out that Tagbo was taken to Lagos island.
Meanwhile someone who rented my bar told me he was with Davido at Shisha bar on Monday and then i asked him randomly ”oh then you must know tagbo” cos Davido and tagbo are close friends and the only reason tagbo would be there is if Davido was there…that is on that birthday eve
The guy confirmed he met Tagbo and that was when he knew they were birthday mate and he also said they had fun and went from there to DNA to party..this was all before i heard Tagbo had died…so my impression then was oh Tagbo was having fun and that was why he hadn’t gotten back to me..

I called the same guy when i heard tagbo had died and asked him to find out what happened and he said he was trying to but every time he called Davidos team and mentioned tagbos name they would drop the phone on him and this was what they had also done to anyone who calls and mentions his name.
Davido knew and his crew knew Tagbo was dead at as 3a.m in the morning and they did not contact anyone,Davidos PA Lati knows where Tagbo stay but did not go to the house to inform anyone.

After we had that Tagbos body was in Lagos island Davidos crew refused to give any info and this was about past 7pm.
I contacted someone who remembers seeing davido and tagbo and DNA and remembers there was a fight.
This person also told me there was a bet and said the same thing my neighbour said but said 30 shots and not 50.
According to what was said,Tagbo drank the tequila and got intoxicated and wanted to drive his car but Davido refused and said tagbo should drive with him..that was what i heard and that they drove to G12 beach and got out leaving Tagbo in the car all locked up and that one of the crew members came back saw tagbo gasping for air…this was the info they spread out there from a supposed eye witness.

He was taken to general hospital where he was confirmed dead and they left him there…..
We went there with Nabila and Mary who can confirm what was said…We were told that he was dumped and those who brought him ran away.
The doctor told us that when the nurse were trying to fix the card,the two people that brought him ran away and their footage could not identify those who brought him and ran cos they hid their faces with caps.
They refused to tell us anything,the medical director told us that because they ran away it was now a police matter and that we should go to the police station.
I posted online asking Davido why they abandoned Tagbo on my way to the police station because i was so angry and needed answers.

I sent Davido personal messages but he didnt reply until i called him out on the social media and he told me to take down the post and he would tell me what happened.I took down the post and told him to come to the police station but he never showed up..Tagbos family members came from far but davido and his manager did not show up.

Tagbos phone and shoes are missing and someone went on tagbos instagram and deleted all the videos he posted of being with davido on that day and eventually deleted the account.we quickly munched all the videos on snap chat…tagbo was with Dammy Krane,Davido and Asha asika.
Davido knew that tagbo was dead but kept quiet.He told the Police later that he would have spoken out if i didnt call him out on the social media..can you imagine.
Tagbo meant everything to a lot of people…his widowed mum who is recovering from an ailment ..I am pleading with anybody who has info on who drive tagbos dead body to the hospital to come forward…

We want to know what happened and how tagbo died.Davido we are not calling you a killer but we need to know hat happened to Tagbo,you owe him this because he loved you like a brother,he took you like a brother,do it for him and call out the people you assigned to drive him…Please.

The retail tycoon behind one of Britain's wealthiest fashion empires is overcome with grief after his son was killed in a car crash.

George Simon died when his Porsche 911 Turbo ploughed into a tree in North Marden, near Chichester in West Sussex, on Saturday, but the news just only broke now.

The 32-year-old's father Peter Simon, the founder of Monsoon and Accessorize, is said to have been left 'devastated'.

Peter Simon started out selling coats on Portobello Road before going on to become on the country's most successful fashion magnates with an estimated worth of some £600 million.


His son was a businessman in his own right and worked as a successful property developer.

Mr Simon, who lived in London, is understood to have been in the car on his own at the time of the tragedy.

A source told The Sun: 'George wasn't a playboy, he hardly ever drank, didn't take drugs and was an experienced driver.

'It just seems he lost control of the wheel. He was developing a successful business career in his own right.'

A Sussex Police spokesman said the Porsche left the road and collided with a tree on Saturday afternoon.

The Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance raced to the scene of the crash along the country road but Mr Simon was declared dead at the scene.

Monkeypox Outbreak: ''Avoid eating monkeys, bush meat''-, FG tells Nigerians

Following the outbreak of new disease called monkey pox the Federal Ministry of Health has advised Nigerians to desist from eating monkeys, bush meat and dead animals as doing so could make one susceptible to the Monkeypox Disease.

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, said this in a statement signed by the Director, Media and Public Relations at the ministry, Mrs. Boade Akinola, on Thursday.

Adewole said the disease neither had a cure nor a vaccine. He, however, said there was no cause for alarm as it was mild.

The statement read in part,

“He said that the virus was mild and there was no known treatment and no preventive vaccines hence the public should be at alert and avoid crowded places as much as possible
“He advised the public to avoid eating dead animals, bush meat and particularly bush monkeys.”

The minister also revealed that test samples had been sent to the World Health Organisation in Senegal but the result was not yet out.

 “Prof. Adewole said although Monkeypox could not be confirmed until laboratory investigations by WHO referral laboratory in Dakar, Senegal, he noted that Monkeypox was milder and had no record of mortality.
“The symptoms include headache, fever, back pains and in advanced cases, rashes bigger than those caused by chicken pox.
He said the disease was a viral illness by a group of viruses that included chickenpox and smallpox.
“Investigation is still ongoing and our partners are working with us on this reported outbreak’ while the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control team in Bayelsa State would give support,” the statement said.

Nasarawa State Polytechnic student allegedly drinks poison to protest carryover

A student of Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, has allegedly attempted to take his own life by drinking a substance said to be ‘sniper.’

The student, one Chinedu Iromuanya, in Public Administration Department, reportedly attempted committing suicide by drinking ‘sniper’ on October 2 over an alleged carryover he had in one of his courses.

Our correspondent gathered that Iromuanya was sad because the polytechnic management had allegedly refused to clear him even after he had sat for the paper in 2016.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the student, an indigene of Abia State, has however been discharged from the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia on Tuesday as confirmed by a nurse who did not want his name in print.

Further findings, however, indicated that the management of the polytechnic had yet to report the case to the police station.

When contacted, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Silas Gyar, said he would not speak to PUNCH Metro.

He said: “I cannot speak to PUNCH Metro because he is not on my appointment list; so, I don’t have time for him.”

The Nasarawa State Police Command said it would investigate the attempted suicide.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Idrisu Kennedy, made the promise on Wednesday in an interview with PUNCH Metro in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.

He said: “I am just hearing this now and I do not think the management of the institution has reported the case to the police.

“I would confirm from our officers in charge of the area where the incident happened to unravel the reason for the attempted suicide.”

Man Impregnates Mother and her teenage daughter

Policemen attached to the Area G Police Command, Lagos State, have arrested a 36-year-old man, Mr Saka Akonda, for impregnating his wife’s 13-year-old daughter.


The girl was discovered to have been put in the family way by her stepfather, just as his wife, who is the teenager’s mother, is also six months pregnant. Incidentally, the girl is five months pregnant.

Akonda, a furniture maker, residing at Obawole, Iju, Lagos State, was arrested following a complaint filed by the girl’s paternal uncle.
Yesterday, Akonda, who was dragged to Ogba Magistrates’ Court to face the music, said that he was so much in love with his stepdaughter.
The accused said he was shocked that police could arrest him, even after he had settled the matter amicably with the girl’s biological father.
Akonda, a father of two, admitted to have accepted responsibility for the underage girl’s pregnancy, stressing that he was willing and ready to take good care of her. He insisted that he had been doing a lot caring for the girl since she came to stay with him and his wife five years ago.
He said: “Everything would have been okay, but it’s the girl’s father’s brother that is causing problem.

He was the person that encouraged the girl’s father to arrest me. Even when my wife said we should abort the girl’s pregnancy, I kicked against it. I was afraid for her life. I don’t want her to die. I have been sponsoring the girl’s education since my wife came with her to my house. Her father appreciated my effort on the girl.”
Akonda said the police officer that arrested him requested for N50,000 to settle the case with the girl’s father, but that he could only cough up N10,000.

Akonda said that his wife left him after he was picked by the police.

The girl’s uncle, Oladele Rasheed, 52, a driver, said that the girl’s mother left his brother’s house five years ago to marry Akonda.
He said: “The man, who impregnated the little girl, married my brother’s wife. The woman abandoned her husband to go and live with this ‘useless’ man, who has impregnated mother and daughter. I want the law to take its due course and punish him for his wickedness. Even if my elder brother backtracks on this matter, I shall not. I would see this case to the end.”

UNIBEN professor shot dead by suspected assassins in Benin

Prof Paul Otasowie of the Department of Electrical Electronics Engineering, University of Benin, Edo State, was shot dead last night at the front gate of his residence by suspected assassins. 

He was the past UBIT/SIWES Director at the university.

An unconfirmed new source claims he was murdered for always failing girls who refuse to sleep with him.
