Nicki Minaj Calls Out Travis Scott, Spotify After Queen Debuts at No. 2 Behind Astroworld

Nicki Minaj has defended the performance of her album Queen after it finished second on the Billboard 200 behind Travis Scott's Astroworld, saying that the marketing of Scott's album involving his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, artificially inflated the numbers.

The Grammy-nominated artist, 35, took to Twitter on Sunday to point out that Scott sold more than 50,000 copies of Astroworld 'with no requirement of redeeming the album' and 'no dates for a tour,' while relying on Kylie's enormous social network for promotion.

Minaj said, 'I put my blood sweat & tears in writing a dope album only for Travis Scott to have Kylie Jenner post a tour pass telling peoplel to come see her & Stormi. lol. Am actually laughing.'

The Queens, New York native, whose full name is Onika Tanya Maraj, said she talked to Scott, and 'he knows he doesn’t have the #1 album this week,' in spite of his Billboard status.

She then declared: 'I love my fans for the #1 album in AMERICA! ... 4 albums in, #1 in 86 countries.'
The Barbie Tingz artist pointed out changes in the business model of the music industry: 'My first album sold 400K. No one is doing that with debut albums now ... I looked at the numbers the Carters, Kanye, Nas, etc recently did.'

She noted how Scott has been able to successfully crossover his album sales with his fashion business, adding that it skews the numbers in a way that Billboard will address moving forward.

'Travis sold 200K in his first week of clothes alone,' she wrote. 'I spoke to him last night & he said he’s been selling clothes b4 the music. Billboard says they’ll change the rules cuz of this, so it should be changed now!'

Nicki also called out the streaming service Spotify for what she called a punitive reaction after she played cuts from Queen Radio on Beats 1 on Apple Music: 'Spotify put drake’s face on every playlist but told me they’d have to teach me a lesson for playing my music 10 mins early on #QueenRadio.

'Even tho they’ve been giving away my music for free for years & I am one of the top Spotify artists of all time.'

She noted that 'Spotify had to teach [her] a lesson but rewarded the man who has had an Apple radio show the longest; inadvertently helping the Apple platform the most.'

She noted that despite her gripes, she was not bitter or upset as she tweeted.

'People are calling me thinking I’m huffing & puffing,' she wrote. 'Omg y’all this is sarcasm/dry humor. Yikes. I’m having the most iconNIC time. When people call me & hear me crackin up laughing they seem so puzzled. Loosen up.'

Nursing Mother, Baby, Boy Drown As Lagos Officials Chase Residents

A nursing mother, Maoteen Yisa; her baby, Atamah Braimah; and a 10-year-old boy, Paulsu Akiyah, have reportedly drowned while fleeing from Lagos officials in Ilubirin-Oju Olokun, a riverine community on Lagos Island, Lagos State.

Punch Metro gathered that officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit had invaded the community on Thursday.

The officials were alleged to have destroyed the residents’ makeshift structures, as they chased them away from the area.

The victims, who were among 10 others in a boat, were said to be fleeing when their boat capsized.

While seven people reportedly swam to safety, the three were unaccounted for.

The corpses floated on Saturday and were recovered by their family members.

The traditional leader of the community, Simenu Peter, confirmed the incident to a Punch correspondent on Sunday.

Peter said the attack started three weeks earlier when some policemen attacked the residents.

He said, “Three weeks ago, the policemen came around 9am and said we should vacate our community. They said we were hoodlums and we said no. I told them that we were fishermen.

“Later in the night, the policemen showed up again and beat up two people who were sleeping. One of them is still in a critical condition. Property, including sacks of foodstuffs, of the residents, was taken away.

“Four days ago, the task force officials came and chased residents again. That was around 11pm. While some of them were running away in a boat, they had an accident. There were 10 of them in the boat; seven survived, but three died.”

An official of the Centre for the Defence of Human Rights and Democracy in Africa, Maurice Fangnon, said the Dolphin Divisional Police Officer and Area A Commander had been informed of the first “unprovoked” attack on the community.

He noted that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, was also alerted to the incident, adding that the police leadership did nothing about it.

He said, “About 80 per cent of the people in Ilubirin-Oju Olokun are Egun. They have been facing persecution for a long time now and the situation keeps getting worse.

“After successive governments tried to remove them, we took the matter up with the National Human Rights Commission and wrote petitions on the unlawful killings, forced evictions and victimisation going on.

“There is an estate being constructed by the government in the area, which started with the administration of former Governor Babatunde Fashola, and was continued by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. The government had chased away some of the indigenes and fenced the estate. The indigenes left behind took refuge behind the fence.

“The bodies of the Egun lady, her baby and a 10-year-old boy were recovered from the water on Saturday, after the police attacked the community on Thursday, August 16, 2018, around 10pm,” he added.

A statement  by the Convener of Movement of Lawyers for Total Liberation, Ayo Ademiluyi and Fangnon on Sunday, said the task force officials also demolished houses and shops in Idasho community, in the Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of the state.

“We give notice to the Lagos State Government and their acolytes in the Nigerian Police Force that this latest onslaught will not be taken lying low after eviction of over 20 informal communities in the past three years,” the statement added.

The spokesperson for the task force, Taofeek Adebayo, said officials of the agency went to the community, adding that the eviction was without any incident.

He said, “The Lagos State Government, through the task force, went there to clear the shanties in the riverine areas. The illegal shanties had been given 72 hour notice for them to remove their belongings. A study conducted around the shanties showed that criminals and hoodlums had turned the place to a den. These are the people terrorising motorists on the Third Mainland Bridge whenever there is traffic. And the government would not close its eyes and allow criminals to take over the area.

“Our intention for the place is to make the place safe for the populace. And majority of them honoured the notices that we served them. They had removed their belongings. It was only a few of them that refused to leave and when we got there, there was no resistance. Majority of them had vacated that place. We are not aware of any death; nobody drowned.”

Man To Die By Hanging For Killing Pregnant Wife

An Akwa-Ibom State High Court in Ikot Ekpene has sentenced a man to death by hanging for killing his pregnant wife.

The convict, Friday John Uko, a native of Ikot Ossom in Obot Akara Local Government Area, was condemned by the court on a one count charge of murder.

The trial judge, Justice Ntong Ntong, while delivering the judgment, held that the convict was said to have kicked his three-month-old pregnant wife, Patience, on August 14, 2014, because she removed N1,000 from his pocket to buy food for their seven children.

Justice Ntong expressed displeasure that a pregnant wife who should have been pampered and cared for by her husband was killed by the same man.

The judge said the instant death of Patience showed the intention to kill and the force the husband exerted in pushing his wife down.

“The accused pushed his wife down having known that she was pregnant and that he ought to know that a pregnant woman ought to be pampered and treated with love and not violence.

“The case is straightforward and that the accused had told the court through his extrajudicial statement that he caused the death of his wife by kicking her because of misunderstanding over N1,000. Anyone who unlawfully kills another is entitled to face the law,” the judge held.

Justice Ntong thereafter ordered that Uko be hanged until he his confirmed dead.

The convict, whose lawyer was not present in court, pleaded for mercy to enable him go home and take care of his children.

England Rugby International Danny Cipriani Fined For Assault in Jersey Nightclub

England rugby international Danny Cipriani has been fined £2,000 after an assault in a Jersey nightclub. The Gloucester player pleaded guilty to common assault and resisting arrest and was ordered to pay £250 compensation to a woman police officer.

Three other charges - assault on police, larceny and being disorderly on licensed premises were dropped.

The 30-year-old fly-half has seven days to pay the fine and compensation or face 10 weeks in prison.

Defence advocate Mike Preston said Cipriani was sorry for the "confusing situation" and was "mortified if he harmed the police officer in any way".

Jersey Magistrates' Court was told he "had too many drinks" at Drift nightclub in The Royal Yacht Hotel, St Helier, and police were called when Cipriani tried to grab a body camera off a doorman.
Mr Preston argued his client did this because fame had made him more sensitive to being filmed and he was confused by the situation.

He was later picked up by police but managed to escape from his cuffs and a second officer was needed to restrain him.

Cipriani is said to have sworn at the woman officer, telling her to get off him.

The court heard she was left with bruises on her bicep and red marks on her neck.

The former Wasps and Sale stand-off did not think he had done anything wrong at the time and did not understand why the police had been called, the court was told.

He was in the island with his club as part of a pre-season tour and was supported in court by Gloucester team captain Willi Heinz.

'Boo has some serious bowel control issues" Johnny Depp ‘Accuses Ex-Wife Amber Heard Of Defecating In Their Marital Bed

Amber Heard is accused of intentionally defecating in the marital bed she shared with Johnny Depp after a blazing row in the months leading up to their acrimonious separation and subsequent divorce.

Heard allegedly soiled the bed as a malicious prank after the Hollywood star arrived two-hours late for her 30th birthday party in April 2016, according to The Mirror.

Sources claim the warring couple’s housekeeper discovered excrement on the sheets after Depp, 55, stormed out of their Los Angeles penthouse following a heated row.

It’s understood that ‘strong photographic evidence’ links Heard to the reported incident, while the actress has since claimed the fecal matter was left by their dog, Boo.

A source told The Mirror: 'Boo has some serious bowel control issues. There was never a joke, it wasn’t something done to be disrespectful.

'It was an innocent thing, it’s what pets will do. We don’t have anything else to say. Ms. Heard is moving on and we do not want to engage in this nonsense.'

The dogs, Pistol and Boo, were last in the news when Heard flew them into Australia on a private jet without putting them through quarantine in 2015.

Depp's ex-wife avoided jail time when she pleaded guilty to falsifying border protection documents when when she imported the teacup Yorkshire terriers into Australia. Heard was handed a one-month good behavior bond and fined $1,000.

The couple also produced an apology video that was played in court, and later went viral. 'When you disrespect Australian law,' Depp deadpans in the video, 'they will tell you firmly'.

The incident sparked global headlines when Agriculture Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said the dogs had better 'bugger off' back to the US or he'd arrange to have them put down.

It was alleged the pooches were not declared to customs officials on arrival.

The presence of the A-list canines was only discovered when their visit to a Gold Coast dog grooming salon was made public.

The dogs were quickly whisked out of the country before a 72-hour deadline lapsed when the canines would have to be seized.

45 Sentenced To Death In Libya Over 2011 Killings

A Libyan criminal court has sentenced 45 militiamen to death by firing squad for killing demonstrators in Tripoli in 2011, the justice ministry says.

They are accused of opening fire on dozens as rebel forces closed in on the capital during the uprising against former leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

It is thought to be the highest number of death sentences handed out since the overthrow of the regime, AFP reports.

Libya has struggled to restore peace since the uprising seven years ago.

Aside from the 45 sentenced to death, 54 more were given five-year jail terms and another 22 were acquitted of charges relating to demonstrator deaths.

It was not known when the accused were arrested, charged or prosecuted.

The case, referred to by the Libyan Justice Ministry as Abu Salim No 2015-1477, is known locally as the Triq al-Sareeh case.

The female driver, reportedly in her 30s, was taking the £45,000 BMW X1 for a free test drive when the accident happened on Saturday in Guangzhou city.

Two employees of the dealership suffered minor injuries in the accident. The driver and the salesperson in the passenger seat were unhurt, according to reports.

Video footage of the incident in Guangdong province shows the navy SUV smashing the glass door and windows of the storefront before ramming it into the wall of the showroom at about 4:25pm.

Staff workers and customers were seen running for their lives as the vehicle sped towards them.

Glass, debris and construction material were seen scattered inside the dealership. The bumper and the bonnet of the car appeared to be damaged.

The woman was trying to park the SUV outside of the shop after returning from the drive, according to Guangdong Public Channel.

However, the bungling driver hit the accelerator instead of the brake and lost control, plunging straight into the dealership.

The dealership's insurance company is currently estimating the damages and the woman has agreed to accept full responsibility for the accident, according to the report.

The two employees who suffered minor injuries were treated in hospital.

The plug-in hybrid version of the BMW X1 costs about 400,000 yuan (£45,000) for the basic model, according to BMW China.
