Instagram On Fire As Wale Gats Slam Davido For flouting NYSC rules by wearing PDP uniforms

Popular comedian, Wale Gates has pointed how Nigerian singer, Davido is flouting the NYSC rules by wearing PDP uniforms. David Adeleke who is popularly known by his stage name, Davido is a serving corps member and should abide by the rules and regulations of the scheme but there is one rule he is flouting and it has led to a debate on Twitter after comedian Wale Gates pointed it out.

According to the NYSC rules and regulations, serving corps members are not allowed to take part in partisan politics. Doing so attracts a penalty of 3 months without pay. But Davido has been supporting his uncle who is contesting for the Governor of Osun state and has been photographed at rallies clad in the PDP uniform

New Zealand Minister Sacked After 'Physical Altercation With Press Secretary'

A government minister who allegedly had a physical altercation with a press secretary was fired by New Zealand premier Jacinda Ardern on Thursday (Sep 20), the second to leave under a cloud in as many weeks.

The centre-left prime minister did not detail what Customs Minister Meka Whaitiri did during an incident last month, but said an internal government report into the matter convinced her the minister needed to go.

"Based on the context and conclusions of the report, I no longer have confidence in Meka Whaitiri as a minister at this time," she said.

Unconfirmed media reports said Whaitiri was accused of bullying after becoming involved in a physical altercation with a press secretary who had just started working for her.

A doting husband who sold his beloved Ford Mustang 17 years ago in order to pay for his wife's cancer treatment had the car gifted back to him by his children.

Wesley Ryan broke down in tears in the middle of a Kohl's parking lot in San Antonio, Texas, as the 1993 Mustang he once dubbed Christine arrived on a trailer three weeks ago.

Son Jake Ryan, who bought the car along with sister Jeni and her boyfriend, documented the emotional event in a Facebook post which has since been shared thousands of times.

Wife Laura also enjoyed the moment, having been cancer-free for 13 years.


In the post, Jake said that 'anyone who knew my dad back in the day in his heyday knew this car and knew how much it meant to him.'

Ekweremadu Condemns Ban On Use Of Phones In Polling Cubicles

Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy Senate President, yesterday says the country would be going backwards if the use of smartphones are banned during elections. He urged INEC tolook into it, saying even the international observers needs phones and other gadgets to cover the election.

The Deputy Senate President made this known during a condolence visit to the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, at his country home in Toru-Orua, on the demise of his 72-year-old mother, Mrs Goldcoast Dickson.

According to the Special Adviser to the governor on Public Affairs, Mr Daniel Alabrah, Ekweremadu is quoted to have said;


“Nigeria must take full advantage of technology as it could not afford to lag behind, especially in the bid to ensure citizens’ participation through recording of results and the electoral processes.

“The international observers would need their smart phones and other media devices to record and send back information to their home countries.

“On the issue of INEC’s ban on smart phones at polling units, that is completely unconstitutional because we have provisions in the Constitution that make room for freedom of communication, expression and even freedom of the Press. That is what this ban is trying to abridge.

“Nigerians are free to express themselves through the media and free speech. I believe that in this age of technology, we cannot be going backwards. So we need to take full advantage of the accomplishments of technology in our life.”

He added, “We are amending the Electoral Act to make provision for the announcement of results at polling booths and if our people are unable to communicate, it makes no sense at all. We are hoping that we can accomplish a free, fair and credible election by the use of technology.”

Woman Sells Baby To Raise Money For Christmas

A 28-year-old woman, Oluchi Mba, residing in Ogidi, Idemili  North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has allegedly sold her seven-day-old baby boy for N350,000.

Southern City News learnt on Tuesday that Mba took the decision in a bid to raise money to celebrate this year’s Chrismas, which is three months away.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, told Southern City News on Tuesday that the woman was boasting about how she would have a fun-filled Christmas this year before she was arrested.

“We were together one Sunday and she was boasting about how she would celebrate this year’s Christmas in grand style.


“I told her that it was too early to plan for Christmas now, but she kept on boasting and saying she would want to have fun during the season. I didn’t know she was planning to sell her own child. This is terrible,” the source stated.

Mba reportedly sold the baby to a 55-year-old, Edith Obiakor, of Akudo Street in Nkpor.

Obiakor, it was gathered, resold the baby to her in-law, one Vitus Aniunoh, 50, of Patterson Street, Fegge in Onitsha for N650,000.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

He said the suspects had been arrested, adding that the baby had been recovered.

“Following intelligence report, police detectives attached to Ogidi division arrested one Oluchi Mba,  aged 28, of Ikenga in Ogidi.

“The suspect confessed to have sold her seven-day-old baby, which she earlier claimed was a stillborn, to one Edith Obiakor, aged 55, of Akudo Street in Nkpor for the sum of N350,000, paid into her account.”

Mohammed said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.

Ex-convict arrested few days after leaving prison over a similar crime

An ex-convict, Ayomide Ifabode, has been arrested for allegedly stealing a Nissan Almera car in Ogun State, few days after he left prison over a similar crime. .

The suspect was arrested on September 17, 2018, at Ototo Village, Abeokuta, with the car which he stole with a master key from where it was parked at Ijeun-Titun area of Abeokuta.

Fayose Slam EFCC again, Accuses EFCC Of Persecution

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has again written the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, rejecting the commission’s request that he should report on September 20 for questioning over monies allegedly traced to his account.

The governor said the date suggested by the commission despite his letter indicating readiness to appear on October 16 was smacked of hatred, persecution and partiality.

The governor, however, said the anti-graft agency could send its investigators to meet him in his office on September 20 if it was so much in a hurry that its investigation could not wait till October 16, 2018 – the first day after the expiration of his tenure.


“Without prejudice to Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution, I will be willing to answer questions from your team of investigators should they be willing to meet me in my office in Ado Ekiti on the 20th of September, 2018 indicated in the EFCC’s letter dated September 13, 2018,” he said.

Fayose, according to a press release issued on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said the letter written by the EFCC to the Customs and other agencies, directing them to put him on their watch list and arrest him if he attempted to leave Nigeria before the expiration of his tenure raised serious question about the impartiality, independence or neutrality of the commission.

Reminding the EFCC that he had on December 19, 2007, willingly presented himself for investigation at its Lagos office after his first tenure, Fayose added that there was nothing new or strange in his September 10 letter, which he said, had been received and treated in a bad taste.

The September 14 letter read, “As a responsible citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who currently enjoys immunity under Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution, it would amount to a breach of the constitution which I swore to uphold if I appear in your office on any date earlier than 16th October, 2018. If done otherwise, it will set a wrong precedent for the constitutional institution that I represent.

“I carefully chose that date (October 16, 2018) being the next day after the expiration of my tenure upon which the immunity I enjoy will lapse to avoid any form of insinuation and was in good faith.

“While drafting my response to your letter of 14th September, 2018 my attention was drawn to your widely publicised letter of 12th September, 2018 to the Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service and similar agencies, directing them to put me on the watch list and arrest me on an imagination that I might leave Nigeria to escape investigation. It has finally put in context, your commission’s hurriedly deleted online statement vide EFCC Nigeria @OfficialEFCC a day after the Ekiti governorship election that, ‘The parri is over; the clock of immunity turn apart, and the staff broken. Ekiti Integrated Poultry Project/Biological Concepts Limited N1.3bn fraud case file dusted off the shelves. See you soon.’

“Your commission by its actions, no doubt, has presumed my ‘guilt’ even prior to the commencement of “investigation.” This raises a serious question about the impartiality, independence or neutrality of the commission in the matter. I feel harassed, intimidated and embarrassed by the imputation of crime and the innuendos of criminality underlining your correspondence which has been maliciously circulated widely. This in all implies a case of persecution rather than prosecution.

“While I have handed a copy of your letter to my solicitors for a careful study and advice, let me state here for the records, that there is nothing about me or my antecedents, as a long-standing public figure to justify the commission’s action. I have never been a coward or a criminal.

“You may wish to recall that in 2007, precisely on the 19th day of December, I willingly presented myself for EFCC investigation at your Lagos office. There is therefore nothing new or strange in my letter of 10th September, 2018 which has been received and treated in bad faith and taste. I thought I was assisting due and fair process of law.

“Notwithstanding the demonstrated hate and prejudice, I reaffirm my willingness to make myself available to answer questions within my knowledge on the day you may indicate after the expiration of my term of office on the 15th October, 2018. If for any good reasons, your investigation cannot await the date suggested in my earlier letter, without prejudice to Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution, I will be willing to answer questions from your team of investigators should they be willing to meet me in my office in Ado Ekiti on the 20th day of September, 2018 indicated in yours.

“Save as above, I will appreciate any date convenient to you after 15th October 2018, otherwise, expect me on the 16th October 2018 at 1 pm as earlier stated.”

Arsenal Chief Executive Gazidis To Join AC Milan

Chief executive Ivan Gazidis will leave Arsenal on October 31 to take up a similar post at AC Milan, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday.

South Africa legalizes cannabis, highest court allows private use

                                  

Cannabis has been legalized in South Africa by the country’s highest court. The use of Cannabis (marijuana) was decriminalized on Tuesday, after a provincial high court last year, alongside Gareth Prince, found that the law against it was inconsistent with the country’s constitution
Prince stated that marijuana should be regulated in the same way as alcohol and tobacco. Government authorities had however said marijuana is harmful and should be illegal. However the high court ruling, says an adult can cultivate marijuana in “a private place” as long as it is for personal consumption in private. It says the right to privacy “extends beyond the boundaries of a home.”
The court also said it would be up to a police officer to decide if the amount of cannabis in someone’s possession, is for personal consumption or dealing.

“It will not be a criminal offense for an adult person to use or be in possession of cannabis in private for his or her personal consumption,” Judge Raymond Zondo said in handing down the judgment.

It was gathered that after the ruling, the Cannabis Development Council of South Africa called for the government to drop all charges of those who are have been found in possession of the drug.

Activists supporting the use of Marijuana cheered after the court reached a unanimous ruling, chanting “Weed are free now.” The high court also legalized the growing of marijuana for private use in a unanimous ruling

Nigerian Prostitute Arrested As Ghanaian Brothel is Raided By Police

A popular brothel in Ghana has been raided by the Koforidua District Police Command of the Ghana Police Force over the weekend.

Twelve persons found to be allegedly soliciting for sex at the brothel named Bula spot, were arrested alongside a 23-year-old Nigerian sex worker, AdomTV reports.

The owner of the facility, 61-year-old Anthony Ekar was also arrested in the swoop. A 23-year-old Nigerian sex worker was among women arrested in the raid.

Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Offier, DSP Eben Tetteh said the district commander, Chief Superintendent Aduhene Binneh led a team of police officers and community protection personnel to the scene and apprehended the suspects.

Those arrested are:  Gideon Syivor Mendah, 42, Michael Adjei 40, William Danquah, 24, Ekpo Torbe, 23 , Kwaku Ayogame ,30, Kwame Musah, 24.

Family Tackles LUTH, Blames Insufficient Bed Space For Son’s Death

The family of an electrician, Segun Ogunjobi, has called for investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos State.

Punch Metro gathered that Segun was knocked down by a hit-and-run bus driver on Sunday, September 2, 2018.

He reportedly died while receiving treatment inside a bus after being denied admission to the Accident and Emergency Unit of LUTH.

Segun’s friend, Babatunde Kamilu, said they had planned to play football together before Segun was hit by the driver.


He said, “We all wanted to play football that day before a commercial bus driver hit him and sped away. We took him to Navy Town Hospital, but he was referred to LUTH. When we got to LUTH, we were delayed.”

The victim’s brother, Tope, told our correspondent that the 24-year-old died in his arms around 10pm while receiving treatment inside the bus after being denied admission to the Accident and Emergency Unit of LUTH.

The Ekiti State indigene added that the gates of the emergency unit were locked, adding that despite begging security guards at the gate for help to get a doctor, no one heeded their cry.

He said, “When we got to the emergency unit, we shouted for help, but nobody answered. They locked the entrance into the reception of the accident and emergency unit. We pleaded with the security guards to help us get a doctor, but they did not answer.

“Later, a young doctor came out to take his details and gave me a list of what to purchase, which cost N6,000. We had no money, but God favoured us with the shuttle driver, who borrowed us some money.

“Afterwards, I asked if we could bring him in, but the doctor said no. He said they had no bed space.

“It was inside the bus that a nurse gave my brother two drips. I held his head, while his friends held his legs and the drip. But around 10pm, he was no longer struggling; his hands and legs became cold. I told my mum that Segun was losing his energy, but she said he was relaxing. I started shouting on everybody to call the doctor. I was crying and shouting. Suddenly, blood gushed out of his nostrils and ears. He gave up inside the shuttle.

“I followed them when they rushed him in; I saw when they tried to revive him, but it was too late. I shed tears when they ordered me outside. Later, a doctor came out and said she was sorry because we had lost him. They caused it all; they did not attend to us on time and I want justice.”

The deceased’s mother, Elizabeth, alleged that doctors and nurses on duty on the night lacked empathy for human life.

The 59-year-old retiree said, “I begged the doctors and nurses to take him inside for proper treatment, but no one listened. They saw my son dying and did not bother. I begged till he died inside the shuttle around 10pm.

“After he gave up, they came to carry him and started pumping his chest. I cried and shouted at them. I told them that they were only fooling themselves because if they had listened to me earlier, he would have probably survived.

“I could not stand his remains staying there that night. Even when I was told that they won’t issue his death certificate, I said I did not need it. I told his friends to go and look for a cab when they came back. I pleaded with the cab driver to help me carry my son’s corpse. The driver was scared because I had no certificate, but I assured him nothing would happen.”

The Public Relations Officer, LUTH, Kelechi Otuneme, said when bed spaces were occupied, patients were usually advised to wait pending the availability of one.

Otunemen said, “We commiserate with the family of the deceased. The Accident and Emergency Unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital is where emergency cases are received, treated and stabilised. They may be discharged or transferred to the wards for further management after initial care.

“However, when the unit is at its maximum capacity, patients and their relatives are advised to wait pending the availability of a space or be referred to any other government hospital in Lagos.

“Unfortunately, few patients leave the waiting area before bed space becomes available; this may have been what happened to the deceased. Sometimes, the hospital is overwhelmed with the number of cases, as it is truly the first of two teaching hospitals in Lagos serving over 25 million people of the state.”
