Armed Robbers Kill Police Officer In Delta State

Dare-devil gunmen on Sunday ambushed a police patrol team around Agbarha-Otor-Ughelli Road in Ughelli North area of Delta State, killing at least one operative.

The incident, which occurred at about 6.30am, witnessed continuous gunshots between the suspected robbers and the police operatives.

Another operative, who sustained serious bullet wounds, was rushed to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, for treatment.

An eyewitness told The Punch that the incident happened after the patrol team stopped a commercial motorcycle, which was conveying a female passenger.

He said the police were interrogating the rider when the gunmen struck.

“Aside from the policemen who sustained bullet injuries, the female passenger the motorcyclist was taking to Ughelli was also injured,” the witness said.

A senior police officer at the Ughelli Area Command, who confirmed the incident, said the injured victims had been taken to hospital for treatment.
