Nigeria police man busted for snatching a motorcycle

Police operatives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Obehie in Abia State have arrested a policeman identified as Sergeant Matthew Elah for allegedly snatching a motorcycle from its owner at gunpoint.

It was gathered that Sgt. Elah, attached to Department of Operations in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Police Command, allegedly committed the crime at Umuteke, Akwette in Ukwa West area with one Sergeant Isah Alhaji attached to 48 PMF, Ahoada, now at large.

In his confessional statement, the suspect said Sgt. Alhaji had asked him to accompany him for an operation without giving the details to him.

He said, “Sergeant Alhaji came to my house at Obehie and asked me accompany him to see somebody, but I saw him with a gun and asked him where he got the gun from and he told me that he got it from armed robbers who were arrested for snatching a motorcycle.

“So, he stopped one motorcyclist, who carried the two of us, but along the way, he asked the man to stop and help him to open one gate while I was holding the gun for him. But he later climbed the bike and zoomed off.”

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, who paraded the suspect at the headquarters in Umuahia, said efforts are on to arrest the fleeing sergeant and recover the stolen motorcycle.
