Tobi, whose address was not given, pleaded not guilty to the two counts preferred against him.
The prosecutor, Eruada Victor, said the accused committed the offences on March 25 at Ijaye bus stop, Ojokoro, Lagos State.
Eruada said the accused broke into the shop of the complainant, Yusuf Iyabo, to commit the crime.
The prosecutor said Tobi was caught by a vigilance group in the area, adding that the offences contravened sections 285 and 308 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
He said the rods and a cutlass he allegedly used to damage the door of the shop were recovered.
Section 285 stipulates a three year jail term upon conviction.
The Magistrate, Mrs. G.O. Anifowoshe, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in like sum. The case was adjourned till April 17.
