Teenage Boy, Three Others Sentenced to Death for Robbing Okada Rider

An Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo has sentenced a 19yrs old boy, Samuel Job, and three other persons to death by hanging for conspiracy and armed robbery.

Justice Olubunmi Ayoola, in a judgment delivered on Tuesday, also sentenced Joseph Moses, 24, Gideon Ode, 25, and Daniel Abraham, 24, to death alongside the teenager.

The presiding judge found the four accused guilty of the charges preferred against them and held that they should be hanged by the neck until they were dead.

The prosecutor, Mrs. Idiat Abdulrahman, had earlier told the court that the four convicted persons conspired and robbed one Abubakar Rauf of his motorcycle.

She also told the court that the convicts injured the motorcyclist before forcefully dispossessing him of the motorcycle.

The prosecutor said the convicts were armed with knives and other weapons during the operation, which was carried out on October 14, 2013, along Kajola Way in Osogbo.

She stated further that the convicts took the motorcycle to their house before they were apprehended.

The prosecutor said, “The offences are contrary to Section 6 (b) and punishable under Section 1(1)(2)(a). The offences are also contrary to Section 1(1)(2)(a), and punishable under Section 1 (1)(2)(a) of the Robbery and Fire Arm (Special Provision) Cap R11, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”

The counsel for the accused, Mr. Promise Jones had earlier pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.

Justice Ayoola, however, held that the prosecution had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt.
