Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi and a host of Super Eagles players yesterday honoured goalkeeper Carl Ikeme by wearing shirts that read ‘stay strong Carl’ to a press conference.
31 year old Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme is currently under treatment in England since he was diagnosed of cancer of the blood – acute leukemia. Ikeme who has been the Super Eagles first choice goalie since the retirement of Vincent Enyeama, consequently will be out of Nigeria’s subsequent games.
Ahead of the Eagles’ game against Cameroon on Friday for the World Cup ticket, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr and some of his players met with the media on Wednesday afternoon and they vowed that they will win their game against Cameroon for Carl Ikeme.
”I always think and pray for him everyday, and I want to wish him quick recovery as we will beat the Cameroonians as an honor for him,” Super Eagles captain Mikel explained.Rohr told media.
“We put on the T-shirt to show solidarity to our teammate (Ikeme). We want to show him that we are with him and to tell him to be strong. Against Cameroon, all of us will play for him,”See photos below:
