Coleen Rooney has asked Wayne to request time off from his football club
just weeks into the new season so they can work on their marriage
problems after his drink-driving arrest.
The Everton striker, 31, faces a court appearance after he was caught
behind the wheel of Laura Simpson's Volkswagen near Wilmslow, Cheshire.
Miss Simpson, 29, said that she planned to have sex with the Everton and England star if they had not been stopped by police.
Speculation was rife that their marriage could be over after Coleen, who
is pregnant with their fourth child, was seen without her wedding ring
for the first time this week.
But it appears she may give Wayne one more chance and hopes that
'sympathy leave' with their three children - Kai, Klay and Kit - could
save their relationship.
His manager Ronald Koeman is unlikely to be impressed with Rooney
missing any vital fixtures and it is far more likely that such a getaway
would happen during the Premier League's next international break at
the start of October.
But, according to a source the scandal is affecting his performances on
the pitch and getting away to sort his relationship could be a blessing
on two fronts.
A friend told the Sun: 'In the midst of it all they haven’t been able to
do that [go on holiday] and, to work through their problems, she feels
they need to get away.
He added: 'He’s in the wrong headspace to play and the pressure is showing.
'If Wayne wants to save his marriage, it’s time to put the football in second place.'
Koeman already said that he is 'very disappointed' with the situation and that the club would deal with the matter internally.
