Woman hides phone in soup for robber boyfriend, to beat prison officials in Ogun


An attempt by a mother of two children to smuggle a phone to her boyfriend in prison custody has been foiled by the officials of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The 33-year-old woman, Fatima Balogun who has been arrested by men of the Special Intelligence Unit of the NPS, carried out the action on Wednesday at the gate lodge of Abeokuta maximum Prisons in Ibara. .

The suspect confessed that she hid the phone which she bought for her boyfriend identified as Ganiyu Ajibode, in the cooler of soup from the Prisons officials. Balogun said she was a divorcee with two children before she met Ganiyu about two years back. .

The suspect who said she lived in Fagba, Iju-Saga in Lagos, said she had never visited the Prison since her boyfriend was remanded for armed robbery six months ago. .

The Controller of Prisons, Ogun State command, CP Benson Abolade said the action was a threat to national security, as the suspect was arrested for trafficking in Prison, which he said was against the Prison operation. .

Fatima Balogun had hidden the hidden the offending phone, wrapped in a cellophane paper, in the stew because “I know they will not allow me to take it to him in the prison.”
