Our First Steps In Office Created Problems – APC Admits
Senate President Bukola Saraki, finally met with the National Working Committee NWC, of ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday, 18 months after his controversial inauguration.
This was even as the ruling party effectively took responsibility for some of the problems confronting it. Saraki, who arrived at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja at about 2:05pm, was accompanied by the Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, his deputy, Bala Ibn Na’Allah and Chief Whip, Prof. Olusola Adeyeye.
The meeting started at about 2:21pm and lasted only seven minutes before journalists were excused. The two sides subsequently went into a closed-door session which lasted for over two hours.
Saraki spoke for less than 30 seconds, but pledged loyalty to the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun led NWC, saying his team was at the party secretariat to “listen” to its leadership.
He told the chairman: “We are here to listen and we are at your service at all times. Thank you sir.’’
However, when at the end of the meeting he was pressed to speak on its outcome, Saraki said they had a frank discussion with the party and agreed to bury any perceived wrong, so the party and nation could move forward.
"Formally, we both bared our minds, told ourselves hard truths and at the end of the day, we accepted that certain things were not done. We accepted to move forward, work closely with the party in the interest of the party because of Nigerians that believe in our party.
"We need to work closely together and we are hopeful that a new chapter is being opened today and we are committed to the hopes and aspirations we gave Nigerians who came out to vote a year and half ago,” he said.
