"Because am a pastor does not mean I can't act as an Aristo" Euchariah Anuobi

Renowned Nollywood actress and evangelist, Eucharia Anunobi says her new life in Christ does not stop her from acting.

The movie icon, who said she repented 19 years ago, told the Sun she will accept any movie roles given to her anytime, including the role of a prostitute.

The Imo state-born said, “While you are seeing me as a movie legend, all the years you have been seeing ‘act all the actable’. I am still acting because I have not left my talent. This is my own definition of being born again. Born again means you have realised and discovered that you were living a life of sin, but now, you want to live a life that would please God.

“As an evangelist, I will still accept scripts like Ashawo (Prostitute). If they give me the one of Ashawo, I will do. But then, I’m not going to smoke, because I don’t smoke in real life, and I’m not going to drink. I can simulate, for instance, like in drinking, but then, I might not wear clothes that will reveal parts of my body.

“I can still act the role of an armed robber,” Eucharia, currently serving as an evangelist at a church in Egbeda, Lagos state said, recalling a movie she played with Patience Ozorkwo (aka Mama G), where they robbed a bank and fully armed with AK-47.

Continuing, the ‘Abuja Connection’ act talked about how her colleagues relate with her after she became born again.

She said, “I remember years ago when I gave my life to God, my colleagues were laughing at me. ‘Your mates are busy doing aristo, your mates are busy seeing governors, your mates are busy going to the clubs in Victoria Island, Ikeja, and everywhere, you sey na church you wan go’.

“They used to say that ‘something is wrong with Eucharia’. ‘Can you imagine with all her degrees, and doctorate in waiting, na to go church?’ But today, by the grace of God, where I sit they can’t sit; where I go they can’t go. I sit with governors and presidents not for aristo, and not for someone to take me to a corner of a room to sleep with me.

“I am not among the superstars they would say, ‘that one get good shape, go corner her for hotel for me’ and they come and meet you only in the night. They don’t need to take me to any corner of the room through Personal Assistant.

“They call me to the lobby of the governor or president’s chapel to pray and declare the word of God Almighty. And when I am done, they shake my hands and say, ‘lay hands on me,” the 51-year-old movie star added

11 Nigerian soldiers killed as gunmen open fire on troops — Army

At least 11 officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army have been confirmed dead after gunmen shot at them during a raid operation, officials said.
However, the troops also killed eight suspected bandits and arrested 57 others during a shootout in parts of Bosso local government area of Niger state, officials said.
The spokesman for the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sani Usman, said contrary to claims that soldiers extrajudicially killed civilians during the clash, the gun fight actually ensued when armed bandits who are also gunrunners, opened fire on soldiers during a raid of notorious hideouts of criminals.
Two soldiers of the Nigeria Army have not been accounted for since the clash as they remained missing, even as troops were able to recover a huge arms cache from those killed and arrested, Mr. Usman said.
Colonel Usman’s statement reads:
“Following covert surveillance and intelligence reports on the activities of some gun runners and armed bandits in Kopa, Dagma and Gagaw villages of Bosso Local Government Area, Niger State, troops of 31 Artillery Brigade, 1 Division Nigerian Army, in conjunction with Nigeria Air Force detachment on Internal Security Operation MESA went on quick cordon and search in the affected areas to recover suspected weapon cache and arrest the suspected persons and the armed bandits”, he said.
“Contrary to statements attributed to some questionable vested interests, the troops were on legitimate official duty aimed at safeguarding lives and property of citizen in the area.
“While approaching and deploying to carry out their lawful duty, the troops came under simultaneous and sporadic shootings in all the three locations. They however responded as necessary in line with the rules of engagement. Sadly, an officer and 8 soldiers of the Nigerian Army and 2 Airmen of the Nigeria Air Force lost their lives in the line of national duty.
“Additionally, one soldier is still missing while 2 of their colleagues were seriously wounded.
“The suspected gun runners and armed bandits also burnt down 4 operational vehicles and vandalized 2 others. Bandits also carted away 4 AK-47 rifles and one Fabrique Nationale (FN) rifle belonging to the deceased soldiers.
The troops also killed 8 of the armed bandits and arrested 57 others. They also recovered large quantity of arms and ammunition.
“The recovered items include; 3 AK-47 rifles,10 Local AK-47 Rifles, 9 Locally made Pistols, 6 Revolver guns, which fires 7.62mm (Special ammunition), 45 Loaded Dane guns, 10 Clubs and Cudgels, 41 Arrows, 18 Bow cases, 122 Cutlasses and Machetes as well as 20 Daggers.
“Other items recovered include 31 Axes, 63 rounds of 7.62 (Special) Ammunition, 10 Bajaj Motorcycles, Assorted Charms and Amulets, 2 Vehicles, 38 mobile telephone handsets, a wristwatch, 5 Identity Cards, Passport Photographs, Cash sum of N23,870.00k, 5 Japanese Yen and 35 different denominations of old Nigerian currency, 15 Catapults, 8 Torchlights, 2 Gun Powder bottles, 4 empty cases of Ammunition and 41 Cartridges. The troops also seized a military Waist Belt and a pair of military Combat Boots.
“It is important to stress that the nefarious activities of the gun runners and the armed bandits has direct bearing with the influx of weapons and general insecurity in some parts of the Federal Capital Territory and the North West geo-political zone of the country. The same gun runners have been confirmed to be the suppliers of arms to armed robbery gangs that were involved in series of armed robbery attacks along Minna-Bida road and the general environment.
“Although the situation is under control, the military will not rest on its oars until all those involved are arrested and brought to justice.
The military will continue to deal with any violent threat to our national security. All law abiding citizens are enjoined to go about their lawful duties as the cordon and search operation continues in the general area and if necessary expand to other identified areas to keep our people Safe

"Budget Paddling is Corruption" SERAP attacked Dogara

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, on Sunday criticised the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, for saying that budget padding is not a crime under the Nigerian law.
It would be recalled that former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, had on July 21, accused the Speaker, his deputy, Yusuf Lasun; Chief Whip,Alhassan Ado Danguwa and Minority Leader, Leo Ogor of attempting to illegally insert over N40bn into the 2016 budget.

Responding to the accusations, Dogara had last week claimed that budget padding under the Nigerian law was not a crime.

The Speaker had made the remark after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja.

However, SERAP, while faulting Dogara’s comment maintained that budget padding is “corruption.”

SERAP in a statement by its Executive Director, Adetokunbo Mumuni said, “Budget padding in fact is corruption, as it is implicit in corruption offences such as abuse of office, attempt to embezzle, divert, and misappropriate public funds, conspiracy to act corruptly, and illicit enrichment, which are recognized under the UN Convention against Corruption to which Nigeria is a state party, and included in national legislation such as the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Establishment Act and the Fiscal Responsibility Act.”

The statement reads in part: “The allegations against Mr Dogara and other principal officials of the House of Representatives also suggest a subversion of the budget process, which in itself is a crime but also a fundamental breach of constitutional provisions and an affront to internationally recognized human rights.

“A prima-facie case of corruption is established when elected officials are allegedly influenced to act contrary to their obligations of office by the prospect of financial gain to themselves. Budget padding also amounts to corruption as the action is against the public interest. Any appearance of corruption in the budget process can result in a cynical public to losing interest in political participation altogether. And democracy can’t work unless Nigerians have faith in those who govern.

“If Mr Dogara refuses to resign to allow for effective and transparent investigation and the allegations of budget padding are swept under the carpet, the ability of the House of Representatives to function as a watchdog and credible guardian of the public interest would be seriously compromised.

The group called on the Speaker to explain to Nigerians the role he played in the alleged budget padding in the House and abuse of office if the growing perception of corruption in the House is to be addressed.

“Nigerians would like Mr Dogara to explain how the funds meant for legislative functions to service guest houses were spent. Nigerians would also like Mr Dogara to explain allegations that favours were sought from multinational companies including the allegation that a construction company was compelled to carry out some work at his Asokoro ‘plot’.

“The truth about the alleged budget padding and abuse of office cannot be kept from the public, and treated as an internal matter or a case of see no evil, speak no evil,” the statement added.

The commission made this known in its monthly Internet Subscriber Data, which was obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

A breakdown of the data showed that internet users on both the Global System for Mobile communications (GSM), and the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks reduced by 81,415.

Liverpool Defender Dejan Lovren's Wife Busted for Marital Scandal

Liverpool and Croatian defender Dejan Lovren (pictured left with his wife) missed the Euro 2016 tournament after he found out his wife and mother of his two children was having an affair with a forestry worker, a man named Dario Torbic (pictured right with Anita Lovren), an old friend of Anitas who earns about £200-a-month...
Lovren (pictured with Anita and their son), who joined Liverpool for £20million in 2014 and earns £65,000-a-month, is said to be said and embarrassed when the discovered the affair but has refused to give up on his marriage. He reportedly whisked his wife away for a make or breakdown holiday in June, determined to make his marriage to the mother of his two children work.

According to the Sun UK, Dejan and Anita have been together since they were 16 but have recently been having issues.

The affair started when his wife, 26, and Dario met up last December in their home city of Zagreb. Anita persuaded Dario to fly to England and they got together at a Liverpool hotel after which they swapped hundreds of love messages.
She left her home in England with Lovren in March to return to her homeland and, The Sun on Sunday understands, went to see a divorce lawyer.
Anita told £200-a-month Dario, who lives in a rented flat, that they would be together.

A source said: “Dejan and Anita’s marriage has been rocky for some time and she sought refuge with her old friend Dario. They had a whirlwind affair and she told Dario she loved him. She told him she would move back to Zagreb and was thinking of divorcing Dejan. She convinced him she would do it. But when Dejan found out he hit the roof.
“He was really hurt at her infidelity. It hurt his pride. He admitted he had not been the best husband but he provided a nice home and life for her and their two young children.”

“It hurt his pride and affected his football. It’s usually footballers cheating on Wags, not the other way round.”
Anita eventually decided to ditch her lover and rejoin Lovren in England at the family’s home with their children Elena, three, and Josip, one.
She and Lovren had first got together at 16, moving to France in 2010 when he transferred from Dinamo Zagreb to Lyon.
They are thought to have split for a short time but reconciled when she found out she was pregnant. They tied the knot so she would not give birth out of wedlock

House Transparency Group slams Dogara, says Speaker must step down

Mr. Dogara had on Friday, after emerging from a meeting with President Buhari, rejected calls for him to resign, saying the allegations that he supervised a massive manipulation of the 2016 budget were untrue.
Mr. Dogara also described the “budget padding” catchphrase that had gained widespread popularity in the media as an anomaly, saying as a top lawmaker and lawyer, he knew that the word had no place in legislative lexicon
But in its statement to PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday, the Transparency Group said Mr. Dogara’s attempt to distance himself from the scandal that had engulfed the House for more than two weeks was “shocking, disappointing” and signified a “negation of federal character principles and breach of trust.”
