ECOWAS Court Orders Dasuki's Release, Slams N15m On FG
The Court of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, on Tuesday declared the arrest and detention of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, as unlawful and arbitrary.
The court also held that the further arrest of Mr. Dasuki by government on November 4, after he was granted bail by a court of law, amounts to a mockery of democracy and the rule of law.
Mr. Dasuki is facing multiple trials for alleged diversion of $2.1 billion meant for the purchase of arms in the immediate past administration.
He is also accused of illegal possession of fire arms.
He approached the ECOWAS court after he was rearrested by members of Nigeria’s State Security Service shortly after meeting his bail conditions in November last year.
He has remained in the custody of the SSS since his arrest.
On Tuesday, a three-member panel led by Justice Friday Nwoke said Nigeria’s government was wrong in arresting Mr. Dasuki without a search warrant, adding that the pattern of arrest negates the provisions of Section 28 of the Nigerian Police Act.
According to the said section, a superior police officer may authorise the search of a resident belonging to a suspect assumed to be in illegal possession of an item, if the officer so authorised has a search warrant.
The court also noted that Section 143 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, allows that where such a search is proposed by the police or other authorities, an application must first be made to a court of law and and granted after due consideration of the said application, in compliance with section 144 of the ACJA.
The court further said the submission of Nigerian government that it came with the search warrant to Mr. Dasuki’s house but could not give it to him, because officers at his residence resisted the security operatives, was ineffective in proving its points.
According to the judge, the search warrant presented before the ECOWAS court was not certified and therefore lacks verifiable authenticity.
The court said government failed to prove its reasons for arresting and detaining Mr. Dasuki, as documents presented before it only emphasised the allegations of fraud and illegal possession of arms.
It added that the ECOWAS court was not set to determine whether or not the possession of arms by
Mr. Dasuki amounted to an offence or not.
It however decided that the arrest was unlawful, arbitrary and a violation of local and international rights to liberty.
The court ruled that Federal Government should pay a sum of N15 million as damages to Mr. Dasuki.
It also decided that the cost of litigation will be summed up and charged against the Nigerian government.
'Pains of years past, He wiped away with a flash'-Seyi Law can't stop gushing about his baby girl (Photos)
On Friday, September 30, Comedian Seyi Law and his wife welcomed a baby girl after five years of marriage and 9 years of relationship.
Since the birth of their baby which came after they had lost their first child after delivery last year, the comedian has been gushing about his new status.
He shared this photo above a while ago and wrote:
"And like the moon watchers,
We counted days,
But the sovereignty of God was displayed,
He smiled as we waited,
With His plans yet, unrevealed.
In the womb, the baby kicks,
Every movement, her mother's pain and joy.
To an elated father, the days seem slow,
But for God, His speed counts.
My mouth constantly in prayers,
Then, I remembered Judas and Peter,
Their differences, Jesus prayed for one,
And I asked He prayed for my daughter.
He alone knows much and what she needs.
Like the sweetness of honey,
On the FRIDAY, 30TH SEPTEMBER, 2016,
OUR PRINCESS' ARRIVAL was announced.
On a unique day, at exactly 9 years after I met her mother as our marriage counted 5 years and 9 months on the 9th Month of the Year.

Joy rushes and gushes my entire being.
She came earlier than expected, but on God's chosen date.

"He always told me it was my fault he hit me"-Ese-Walter Ark shares moving domestic violence story
Ese Walter-Ark, writer and media personality has shared a moving story on her Facebook page of how she was once a victim of domestic violence as a result of her naivete. Read below
I was 18 years old the first time a guy hit me. He was my first real boyfriend and he always told me it was my fault he hit me.
He lied a lot to me and hated confrontations. He suspected me every time of trying to leave him and date someone else. He wanted to know if I loved him more than my best friend. He had a temper so sometimes one loose statement could earn me a slap. Then there are times he was high from drinking a whole bottle of benylyn, I had to watch my tongue and steps else I'd smell my arse.
The first time he hit me he hurt my eye. He had this ring on and kept slapping me with his back and fore hand. I thought he spoilt something in the eye. I started seeing lights from the corner of my eye. Even when it was a completely dark room I'd see lights flash from the corner of my eye. Because he didn't let me go to the school hospital for fear that he might be expelled I managed the situation until one day it stopped.
Many months after University I had that flash by the corner of my eye experience and fear gripped me. We had not spoken to each other in a long time but the incident reminded me of the fear I had to endure through that relationship. I was suddenly that teenager who was frightened of the person she was supposed to be loving.
I never involved myself in domestic violence talks. The pain was too raw and it always came rushing in anytime I heard a woman was beaten by the one who was supposed to love her.
I watched the movie "Diary of a mad black woman" about 50 times because finally this woman was getting back at her man for beating her. The first time I watched the movie I almost entered the computer. I was so mad to see the first scene where he was beating her.
Today I was having a bath and I had that same flash at the corner of my eye. I paused for a few minutes and noticed I didn't have anger bubble up in my belly for him. The only thought I had was, "I should probably check this eye out with an optometrist"
I realised I have released those old feelings and hurt. I have forgiven the teenager for not knowing better and I have given up any hopes that the past could have been different. I think I also see how that served me. All my years of dating, even when I wasn't sure what my 'spec' was or if I liked someone enough, any sign of beating or violence was the end of the relationship. Not because I was scared someone could hurt me again but because I knew I was going to kill anyone who lay a hand on me and I didn't have plans of spending my life in jail.
It feels now like I am talking about another person when I think of the beatings my teenage self received. I probably am.
If you are reading this and are currently experiencing violence in your relationship please don't ask me what to do. I am not born again, my advice will definitely put you in jail.
I just wanted to share a piece of my experience.
I hope everyone had a restful holiday?
Arksville did.
Sending you love and light.

Customers Flash In Lagos Restaurant, One Killed
There was chaos at Bees restaurant on Ire Akari Estate in the Isolo area of Lagos State, when some customers clashed, resulting in the death of one person. The victim, a man, was stabbed in the chest with a broken bottle and he bled to death.
It was learnt that on Sunday at about 8.30pm, customers had come to recline at the restaurant. But at an argument had ensued between the victim, whose name had yet to be ascertained, and another customer, leading to a free-for-all. He was killed in the process while two others were injured.
It was gathered that policemen from the Isolo division went to the scene to remove the corpse.
A police source told The Punch that the operatives had yet to ascertain what led to the fight, adding that preliminary investigation showed that some of the customers were drunk.
He said, “Anti-crime patrol policemen mobilised to the scene and a man was seen lying down in a pool of blood. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital, where he died.”
But the management of the restaurant, who were invited by the police, denied that the fight occurred on their premises.
The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation was ongoing.
“The owner of the bar is undergoing interrogation with the command. Although he denied that the fracas happened inside his bar, the police are investigating to find out what actually transpired.”
Gunmen storm Police Station in Benue, kill all Officers on duty
This is a barbaric act. An overnight attack by gunmen on a police post in central Benue State has left at least four police officers dead. Witnesses said the yet-to-be-identified gunmen stormed the police divisional headquarters in Igumale, the headquarters of Ado Local Government Area, shortly after midnight on October 2, killing all the four officers on duty.
The attackers also carted away the officers' guns and ammunition.
Ajibo Ochulayi, a community leader in the agrarian town, told PT that while two officers died on the spot, two others later passed on in a medical centre in Makurdi, the state capital.
“It is sad that the gunmen were able to overpower the policemen and killed all the four of them with little resistance,” Mr. Ochulayi said.
He said the state’s police commissioner, Bashir Makama, visited the scene on Sunday afternoon with a few mobile police officers to assess the aftermath.
Police have launched a manhunt for the assailants but and no one has been identified.

The 31, who included Algerians as well as Tunisians, were sentenced in absentia and some are reported to be already dead.
Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) claimed the attack on the minister’s family home in the western border region of Kasserine, which left four police officers dead.
Ben Jeddou was not in the house at the time.

A total of 46 people were prosecuted over the attack, said the spokesman for Tunis district court, Sofiene Sliti.
Orange Employee Who ‘Stole’ Customer’s Number To Whatsapp Her In ‘Trouble’
Oh dear! So there’s currently a saga going on at Orange in Kenya when a male employee stole a lady’s number after she came to their office for registration. He stole the number and sent her a whatsapp message at night. The lady however didn’t find it funny and said it was a breach of her privacy. She later shared the conversation on twitter and also tweeted at Orange reporting the incident.
A lot of people however feel the action was harsh and asked that the guy shouldn’t be punished. But then people need to chill, especially ladies asking that he shouldn’t be punished. That’s why some men date two/three women together. What if this guy was used to messaging every fine customer and some people fall mugu for him? Isn’t this how heartbreaks start, when he eventually dumps others for one? And probably even get married and still cheats? Abeg he should be punished. You don’t go on stealing people’s numbers only to message them at night. What audacity?
PDP Heads To Court To Challenge Obaseki’s Victory, Calls For Dissolution Of INEC
The Peoples Democratic Party on Monday said that it would challenge the outcome of the Edo State governorship election at the election petitions tribunal.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had last Thursday declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Godwin Obaseki, as the winner of the election.
According to the electoral umpire, Obaseki had a total of 319,483 votes while his counterpart in the PDP, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, polled 253,173 votes to come second.
The opposition had rejected the result, which it described as a fraud, and accused INEC of alleged complicity.
But the Edo State PDP Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, who disclosed this in a chat with The Punch in Benin, the Edo State capital, explained that the party would leave nothing to chance to prove that the result was manipulated and that it would also expose the alleged corruption and incompetence of the electoral commission.
He, therefore, called for the dissolution of the present leadership of the INEC.
I Won’t Buy National Assets Even If They Are Offered To Me On Credit- Dangote
Following the outcry that has trailed the advocacy for the sale of the country’s national assets as a quick measure to fund the 2016 budget and boost the country’s foreign exchange reserves, the President/Chief Executive of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has dismissed insinuations that his advocacy for the sale of the assets was self-serving, saying he was not interested in any of the assets.
Dangote, who spoke in an exclusive interview with ThisDay, stressed that if the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Company or any other national asset was offered to him, even on credit, he would not be interested in acquiring them.
Dangote, who is Africa’s richest man, said his advocacy for the government to sell down some of its interest in some of the national assets was to help boost the economy as well as to stabilise the naira exchange rate, which has been under attack in the past few days.
According to him, he offered his proposal as a way out of Nigeria’s present economic recession because he is “a true Nigerian who really wants the issues about the economy to be sorted out”.
He added: “You know the issue, once your reserves are low, the banks, entrepreneurs, including external forces, would definitely attack your currency. They would speculate on your currency.
“We all know that the exchange rate of almost N500 to the dollar is not a true reflection of the value of the currency – the naira cannot be almost N500 to the dollar!
“But you see, if this thing is not handled properly, it can get out of hand. It can get to N600 to the dollar, or even N700 to the dollar.
“But the issue is, why did I suggest that we should sell some of the assets? I know the touchy one is the NLNG. I want to make it categorically clear that even if the government is selling NLNG on credit, I am not interested in buying.
“I don’t have any interest in NLNG and I will not buy it. It is not a business that I want to invest in. It is a mature business; that is what people don’t understand.
“You see, we should have invested heavily in all these Brass LNG, Olokola LNG, etc, when former President Olusegun Obasanjo started work on the projects, but we missed the opportunity.
“Today, you have massive LNG projects that have been done by Qatar, Australia and the United States is also exporting. But right now, all the gas that we have is even in the ground. Even Mozambique has a massive amount of gas and also Tanzania, and they are nearer to the markets than we are.
“So, if somebody is even going to invest in LNG, he would go to those areas and invest there and not here in Nigeria, because the investment here daunting. So my own suggestion is that even if we must sell, it doesn’t have to be 100 per cent of our interest in NLNG.”
Dangote maintained that even if NLNG was bringing in $1.5 billion into the federal government’s coffers, once the government reduces its stake in the company and it is run more professionally, Nigeria would generate more funds from it.
“People are just saying it is better to go and borrow, but I don’t know where they are coming from. You see, with borrowing, if I have issues with my business today, the bankers who would lend me the money would want to see me doing something first to see how the business can survive. There would be conditionalities.
“But if you are not shedding weight, how do you expect somebody to help you with funding? You have to start first by trying to shed weight and showing the person (lender) who wants to help you with the assets you want to sell,” he explained.
Dangote maintained that Nigeria requires about $15 billion to jumpstart its economy, saying that if the amount were added to Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves of about $25 billion, this would help attract foreign investors.
“I can assure you that if our forex reserves get to $40 billion, you will be shocked at how people will reject even buying dollars. So, is it worth it for us to keep assets that we are not using? Even the oil assets that I am suggesting for sale, they are not the producing assets. We have a lot of non-producing assets.
“The producing assets only form about 73 per cent of Nigeria’s portfolio. We can also unlock shut-in oil production because today we are losing about 700,000 barrels, be it through negotiations or whatever with the militants. These 700,000 barrels can easily give us about $1 billion a month. So, I am not saying that you should touch the producing assets.
“I am talking about the sale of the marginal fields and all those non-producing and capped oil wells that we have not even touched in the last 50 years. They have not been touched at all. They are there, just dormant.
“These assets form about 14.7 per cent of Nigeria’s portfolio. Some of those assets were bought by Shell and others. These are assets that you are not earning anything from.
“But the moment that you put these assets into use, the money that you will start getting from them, we will be talking about an additional $4 billion to $8 billion, and you can go and borrow money against that,” he added.

Eldee is one of the reasons I call Nigerians illiterates – Kemi Olunloyo
Kemi Olunloyo, has slammed Nigerian rapper, Eldee for purportedly promoting rape.
This came after the rapper lashed out at international celebrity socialite, Amber Rose, on her annual ‘Slut Walk’.The ‘Slut Walk’ is a transnational movement of protest marches calling for an end to rape culture. Specifically, participants protest against explaining or excusing rape by referring to any aspect of a woman’s appearance.
El Dee took to his Twitter handle few days ago to blast Amber Rose.
He posted “I’m upset because there is a deliberate effort by the media to poison the minds of our daughters. Amber Rose is a hoe.Reacting to the rapper’s comment, the controversial social media personality described Eldee as an illiterate who has not researched ‘Slut Walk’.
“This is not a media event. It’s an awareness event. For someone that lives in the USA, ignorance does not excuse stupidity in researching something that originated in Canada and gone global.”
In a press release signed by her publicist David Perez, she said;
“Research! U are on the Internet. Stop promoting RAPE in #Nigeria. This #moron Nigerian rapper is bashing Amber Rose on #slutwalk. He needs to be skooled! Research things before posting. #SlutWalk started in #Canada when I was there.
It is a protest against raping women due to what they wore. Sexy mini clothes don’t warrant rape. U are a freaking nonentity who claims to be protecting his daughters and yet called Amber Rose a “hoe” dumbass fool.
There are males waiting to call your daughters hoes later in life. It’s dumbasses like U who haven’t let the gender equality pass.
Your post was full of crap. Who cares if your daughters don’t follow Amber? Serena, Simone, Lupita as you mentioned all condemn rape!
No positive role model endorses rape. Know the meaning of slut walk. You need to apologize to all Nigerian women. I am a feminist and won’t stand for rappers who need attention by calling women hoes and not even researching #slutwalk then he goes on and blames the media.
Rape is not a word you just use recklessly she stated. In Nigeria, some fathers do rape their underage children, women are raped and even elderly women have been raped,” the statement added.

Rahama Sadau releases statement on her expulsion from Kannywood
Recall that the Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria Monday announced they have expelled top Kannywood actress, Rahama Sadau, from the Hausa film industry because she featured in a romantic musical video by Jos born singer, ClassiQ where she hugged and cuddled the music artist. Read her statement after the cut...
"Following the events of the last few days and MOPPAN’s unilateral
decision to exclude me from the Hausa indigenous film industry, known
as Kannywood, I would like to use this medium to address my fans,
friends, those who have been affected and all who have shown concern. To those who I have offended in any way, shape or form and who I have
caused any anxiety by featuring in the said music video, I sincerely
apologise. It was a job and I was carrying out my role in my profession,
as I would in any other production, be it a Hausa language film or a
Nollywood production. However, innocuous touching with other people in
my line of work is inevitable.
I have lines that I would never cross and indeed I live and stand by the
tenets, “actions are judged according to intentions”. The outcome of the events that have taken place has come as a surprise
to us all. I may have fallen short of some people’s expectations, but it was
never my intention. I make no excuses for my actions and I take full
responsibility.
Thank you to all those who have reached out at this time and to everyone
in general for your unwavering support. Your passion and loyalty hasn’t
gone unnoticed and I am privileged to have your support. This, I do not
take for granted and I want nothing more than to continue making you all
proud. I implore us all to be more tolerant and forgiving towards one another
and to cease all the senseless abuse, name-calling and backbiting. This
achieves nothing other than to cause a huge divide amongst us. May we
all continue to benefit from the Almighty’s mercy and may He protect and
guide us all as we go about our daily lives.

BIG LOOTS: FG to start Prosecution of Ex-Governors, Saraki, Peter Odili, Others
The Federal Government, through its newly set up National Prosecution Coordination Committee, is set to start filing fraud charges against big looter, including former governors this October.
The NAPCC and some of the special teams of prosecutors, pooled together by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, had commenced the review of the corruption cases involving some of the former governors and politically-exposed persons.
A top member of the NPCC revealed that
the preliminary issues would be completed soon and the Federal Government’s teams of prosecutors would start filing charges against some of the ex-governors.
According to The Punch, anti-graft agencies and other law enforcement bodies with prosecutorial powers had since complied with the directive issued by the AGF in August, asking them to remit the duplicate files of the high profile cases they were handling to the NPCC.
A source familiar with the ongoing review of the cases said, “You will recall that before the NAPCC began work, the AGF had written to the EFCC and ICPC, asking them to remit the duplicate files of 31 ex-governors and some other politically-exposed persons to his office.
“While the anti-corruption agencies had yet to respond, the AGF again asked the various agencies with prosecutorial powers, including the ICPC and the EFCC, to compile and remit the duplicate files of all high profile cases they had to the NPCC.
“I can tell you the agencies have responded to the AGF’s directive and the NPCC is now reviewing the files.”
The source added that the files had been distributed to some prosecuting teams, each comprising four lawyers, also recently pooled together by the Federal Government through the AGF.
The source stated, “We don’t want to rush to court. We have asked some of our teams of prosecutors to look into the files and review the evidence and draft charges where there is sufficient evidence.
“After the review is completed, we will hold a conference of all the lawyers to review the drafted charges before filing.
“We expect that all these will be concluded soon and we start filing the charges before the end of this month.”
