Mel B Claims She Wrote Her Tell-All Book Because Of Her Daughters

She's discussed her abusive ten-year relationship with ex husband Stephen Belafonte in her new book, Brutally Honest.

And Mel B, 43, told her fellow Spice Girl Emma Bunton she did it because she doesn't want her three daughters to end up in similar situations to her.

Appearing on 42-year-old Emma's Heart FM radio show on Tuesday, Mel said: 'There’s quite a bit that I left out. My main point to get across was that being in an abusive relationship is not OK.'

Mel is mother to Phoenix, 19, from her marriage to dancer Jimmy Gulzar, Angel, 11, from her romance with Eddie Murphy.

And Madison, six, is from her marriage to Belafonte.

Emma said: 'It’s amazing. I cried through the whole thing by the way. And then Mummy Bunton read a bit yesterday and cried, I was like “Oh my goodness” – it’s just heart breaking.'

She added: 'If you are in a relationship where you are being humiliated or made to feel less than you are, it is a crime.

'I became really good at lying and saying my marriage was amazing when it's wasn't.'

She told Emma that since 2016, 'coercion' has been deemed a crime with a maximum five year prison sentence.

It's when a victim experiences the type of behaviour that stops short of serious physical violence, but amounts to extreme psychological and emotional abuse at the hands of a partner.

Host Jamie Theakston said: 'In the book you said “in the past 20 years of my life I have made £80m. Now I was thinking hang on, Is that what the Spice Girls make because it’s my birthday coming up and I might ask Emma for something different?"'

Mel laughed: 'I was married for 10 years and most of my work is in America and Australia so you know aside from my lovely Spice Girls, I am quite an independent money earner and I love earning money.

'And that’s also a form of control, also for your partner because they put you out to work so you can’t think straight.

'But luckily I love what I do and I love my work and that’s why I’m so happy – you know people like Simon Cowell – even though the girls didn’t quite realise it also – they were very much my rock in the midst of all of this. But they didn’t know the truth truth because I was embarrassed.'

Former Zamfara SUBEB chairman jailed for 41 years

The Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB chairman, Murtala Jengebe, has been sentenced to 41 years in jail by a five-man panel of the court of appeal sitting in Sokoto and presided over by Justice Hannatu Sankey, The Cable reports.
Jengebe was convicted by the court after the appellate court found him guilty on the seven out of the 10 counts of which he was earlier acquitted at the federal high court, Gusau, Zamfara.
In the lead judgment read by Habeeb Abiru, a judge, the earlier acquittal was set aside.
The appellate court held that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt seven out of the 10 counts of the money laundering charge brought against him by the EFCC.
He was consequently sentenced to five years imprisonment on each of four of the counts and seven years each on three other counts respectively
However, the court ordered that the sentences shall run concurrently.
On May 12, 2017, the federal high court sitting in Gusau discharged and acquitted the convict on the 10 counts charge of money laundering but convicted him for engaging in private business while he was still in public service.
An offence he was never charged for by the commission.
Dissatisfied with the judgement of the lower court, the prosecution approached the court of appeal seeking it to set aside the judgement of the lower court.

Ex-Eagles Player, Etuhu To Stand Trial Today At A Swedish Court For Match-Fixing

Former Premier League player Dickson Etuhu goes on trial in a Swedish court on Thursday to face a charge of match-fixing, which he denies.

Etuhu played at the 2010 World Cup for Nigeria and had a lengthy career in England for Manchester City, Preston North End, Norwich, Sunderland, Fulham and Blackburn Rovers before moving to play in Sweden.

He is charged with trying to bribe a goalkeeper to fix the result of a league match between his former side, Stockholm's AIK, and IFK Gothenburg.

The game was due to be played on May 18, 2017 but was postponed after goalkeeper Kenny Stamatopoulos told AIK he had been approached by Etuhu and another man with a view to fixing the game, according to the 473-page pre-trial protocol seen by Reuters.

Etuhu has said his former team-mate must have misunderstood the conversation.

'I respect everyone's opinion, but the facts remain the same — it never happened... It's unbelievable that an ordinary conversation with a friend can lead to something like this,' Etuhu told Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

The offence of gross bribery carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison.

Etuhu, 36, and his lawyer Johan Akermark both declined to speak with reporters head of the trial, being held at the Stockholm District Court

Policeman Kicks As Customs Officers Gun Down Wife In Lagos

The family of Patience Oni has been thrown into mourning after she was allegedly killed by officers of the Nigeria Customs Service in the Badagry area of Lagos State.

Punch Metro gathered that the Customs officers attached to the Seme Border Command, reportedly led by one Abu Yusuf, were trying to evacuate bags of smuggled rice found around the F. O. Filing Station in the Badagry area of the state on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.

Our correspondent learnt that the officers allegedly shot in the air to scare people away and to prevent the residents from disturbing the evacuation of the bags of smuggled rice.

It was gathered that Patience, who had gone to the market situated around the scene of the operation, was said to have been hit by a stray bullet allegedly fired by the officers.

The deceased’s husband, John Oni, said Patience, while struggling for life, gave a good Samaritan her phone to call him, adding that she was dead before he could get to the Badagry General Hospital.

The 45-year-old police inspector said, “A good Samaritan, who was at the scene of the incident, called to inform me that my wife had been shot. When I rushed to the scene, I was told that she was still alive and that the Customs officers had rushed her to the Badagry General Hospital. I am yet to recover from the shock of not meeting her alive when I got to the hospital.

“I learnt that the Customs officers were chasing after some smugglers carrying rice before they opened fire on some boys, who reportedly struggled with them. I was told that my wife was at the bus stop close to a filling station around the Badagry roundabout where she was hit by a stray bullet from the Customs officers’ guns.

“I want the government to help me fight for my right, because my late wife was my helper. I have four children who are still in school, and I don’t know how I will cope without her. My life is ruined.”

The deceased’s son, Liberty, said his mother was a pillar to the family, adding that the trigger-happy officers, who allegedly killed her, must be prosecuted.

The deceased’s elder sister, Ruth, 38, said Patience’s death was untimely, adding that the family wanted justice but did not know how to get it.

Nigeria Customs Service on Thursday intercepted 40 feet containers, loaded with Tramadol and other dangerous drugs from India worth N7.318 billion.
The announcement of the seizure was made by Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), and it was further gathered that Customs officers also intercepted a helicopter and an aircraft from the United States of America over failure to provide End-User-Certificate and other documents.
Attempt by the importers to bribe Customs officers with over $400,000 (about N150million), to effect the release of just one container out of the 40 seized, it was gathered, was rebuffed by the officers. Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) who spoke to journalists, disclosed that three suspect, including Customs officers, who cleared the containers have been arrested for further investigation.
“The NCS is making concerted efforts to ensure that not only maximum revenue is collected, but also to safeguard the security and well-being of the citizenry.
“We are all aware of the dangers that the deliberate non-compliance to import and export procedures pose to our country as importers bring in all manner of items which put the security and health of the country at great risk.
“Terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements get hold of these un-custom goods such as controlled drugs to perpetrate their heinous activities. It is in line with the determination to fight this ugly trend that the Apapa Command of the Service intercepted 40 by 40 feet containers, mostly from India, laden with Tramadol and other pharmaceutical products with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N7,318, 978, 065.00.”
He added: “The Service achieved this feat through vigilance and intelligence gathering within the system as well as information from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), which is a strong ally of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). I commend the Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Monisola Adeyeye, and her management team for their collaboration in the attainment of this feat” he said.
He further disclosed that the one of the helicopters with registration number SN-BLI was intended for export, and was concealed in container number PONU7789246, while the second helicopter, a Cessna 182A, was imported into the country from the United States of America for unknown assignment.
Col. Hameed revealed that the first helicopter was falsely declared as 388 bags of cashew nuts, while the second was concealed in container number MRKU 4457663 before they were intercepted by some vigilant and patriotic officers of the command

It was also learned that Wizkid owed the nightclub the sum of N8million, and also a pool party bill of N7 million, which his security guard had gone to settle, when Olusanya called Afari to beat him up and also used a broken glass to injure him.
During the arraignment of the duo, the police prosecutor, Inspector Joseph Jimoh, told the court that the defendants unlawfully assaulted the complainant Obinna, by beating him and using broken glass to injure one of his eyes, finger and left side of his face.

He said that the incident took place at about 3.am, on November 15, adding that the defendants caused the victim grievous bodily harm by inflicting injuries on his eye with a fist blow and stabbed him on the left side of his face with a broken glass.

Their lawyer, D. Mustapher, urged the court to admit the defendants to bail on a liberal term, as steps are already being taken to settle the matter, adding that one of the steps being taken is the footing of the complainant’s medical bills.
Consequently the Magistrate Y. O Aro-Lambo, who stood in for Magistrate O. O. Oshin, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
He said one of the sureties, must be a community leader and the two sureties must be taxpayers to the Lagos State government and have their addresses verified.
The magistrate adjourned the case till January 17, for mention.
