Internet Scammed Lady Busted An Arraigned For €132,000 Fraud

                             
An alleged online fraudster, who has been identified as  Suzan Vega Ochuko, was arraigned before Justice P.I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court sitting  today in Benin, Edo State,on a three count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.
It is alleged that she connived with one Tony Uyimwen aka Alex Ethan (now at large) allegedly operating with a pseudo name Alex Ethan to commit the said crime. They contacted one Mrs. Beatrice AUF DER MAUR from St. Gallen, Switzerland via Facebook, defrauding her of €132,000.

Mrs Auf Der Maur was allegedly hoodwinked into a love relationship with
the defendant, who subsequently defrauded her of the said amount under the pretence of executing a non existing contract.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.

Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo popularly known as Sarkodie has disclosed in an interview, that he will be getting married soon.
During a chat with Dan Kwasi Prince of the Daily News Ghana, the rapper said things are moving on well for him and that sooner his numerous fans and the world will hear the wedding bells.
He also acknowledged that a woman has a role in the success of a man while stating his readiness for marriage.

My Husband Runs Away Whenever I Am Pregnant, Woman Tells Court

                                        

A pregnant fashion designer, Fatimah Shodunke, on Friday told an Agege Customary Court in Lagos that her husband abandoned his matrimonial home whenever she was pregnant.

The 32-year-old mother of two, who resides on James Street, Ishaga, a Lagos suburb, made the allegation while responding to a divorce suit filed by her husband, Gbenga.

She also told the court that Gbenga wanted her to abort her second pregnancy but she refused. “My refusal to abort my pregnancy made my husband to pack out of the house to an unknown destination without bothering about the welfare our first child and myself until l gave birth.



 She added that Gbenga moved out of the house again in December, 2016, following her refusal to abort her third pregnancy.

Fatima submitted that Gbenga was irresponsible and kept beating her at the slightest provocation.

 The respondent, however, prayed the court not to dissolve the six-year-old marriage for the sake of the children. Gbenga, a mechanic, had claimed in the suit that Fatimah was troublesome and had been threating his life.

 He alleged that he moved out of his matrimonial home because Fatimah threatened to kill him with a knife. The petitioner said that he was no longer interested in the union.

The Court President, Mr Phillip Williams, said that the court would do its best to save the marriage.

 He adjourned the case until May 2 for further hearing.

Uber driver Alledgedly ‘steals’ passenger’s N235,000 phone

   
A driver with American online car hire service firm, Uber, was yesterday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his passenger’s N235,000 phone.
Mobosi Ikechukwu, 32, was arraigned before Mr B. A. Sonuga.
Prosecuting Corporal Friday Mameh said Ikechukwu was assigned by the transport network firm to pick up Mrs Fatima Eshotune, who requested for a driver on the night of February 28.
Ikechukwu picked her up in his Toyota Corolla saloon car marked SMK124EJ, and along the way, she requested to charge her phone on a device in the car. The Nation reports.
The police said the complainant forgot the phone, a gold Samsung Galaxy S6 valued at N235,000, in the car when she got off at about 8:10pm, at 16, Agodogba Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi.
The defendant denied seeing the phone.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 287 (9)(c) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011. The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Sonuga granted him N200,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum and adjourned till May 15.

2 burn to death, many injured, as Danfo bus bursts into flames in Lagos

Two women were burnt beyond recognition when a commercial bus conveying fish sellers burst into flames.
The Danfo bus, with registration number KTU 479 XQ, was said to have somersaulted and caught fire at “Cane village”, Maryland area of Lagos.
The incident occurred at about 2.55pm on Friday (today).
LASEMA spokesperson, Kehinde Adebayo said in a statement that the bus, which was moving from Yaba, lost control at top speed after hitting an unknown Jeep at Maryland.
The bus fell on its side and caught fire.
                   
“Five persons were rescued and attended to by a joint team of LASAMBUS and the LASEMA Paramedics,” the statment said.
“Thereafter the victims were taken to the Trauma and Burns Centre, Gbagada for further treatment, while two other adult female passengers were burnt beyond recognition.”
 The remains of the unidentified women were handed over to SEHMU for deposition at Mainland Hospital Morgue.
LASEMA General Manager, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, said proper investigation into the cause of the incident would be conducted.                        
He advised motorist to drive with utmost care and safety as most of these accidents are avoidable.

Late Naval Officer Who Died In Lagos Was To Be Next Chief Of Naval Staff

The senior Naval Officer was in the running to emerge as Nigeria's Chief of Naval Staff.

Some officers revealed this to NAN after Ikoli was found dead in his Lagos home on Wednesday.
Quoting authoritative sources at the command, NAN reports that Ikoli may have been assassinated as he had no cause to kill himself.
“Ikoli has been penciled down by the President as the next Chief of Naval Staff; he recently earned a special promotion to his present rank from Commodore,” a source told NAN today.
“He was on the panel probing arms deal which also affects the Armed Forces, including the Navy.
“Ikoli was a disciplined, gentle, straightforward and honest man, who had no regard for protocol. It is nothing but a murder case.”
The source also said because of his performance as the commander, NNS Beecroft, he was loved by all officers and the junior ones.
He said: “Ikoli transformed the place by introducing smart I.D. cards and increasing special duty allowance from N4,000 to N12,000.
“Everybody is aware that he was an introvert, but he made sure that things worked properly and he had respect for all and zero tolerance for corruption.
“He really complimented President Buhari on his anti-corruption war and I think that was why he was appointed to serve on the arms deal probe panel.
“His elevation as the next Chief of Naval Staff would have been announced if not for the president’s trip to London for medical checkup.”
Another officer, who said he worked with him, also told NAN that the late Ikoli was an easy going man who did not believe in bothering people.
“At the close of work, he usually allows his aides to go home and stay with their families. In most cases, he will be the one to open the gate of his residence for visitors using a remote control.
“The officer would not have killed himself; it is pure case of assassination. There is a mystery surrounding his death; for instance, the two ambulances they brought to take him to the mortuary refused to move.
“It was when they brought his service car and transferred the body into it that they were able to take his corpse to the morgue,” he said.

Davido in dud cheque scandal

Nigerian hip-hop singer, David Adeleke, better known as "Davido", is in a fresh scandal. This time, the popular singer allegedly issued a dud cheque to an auto dealer for the purpose of paying the sum of N7.4million as a balance for a Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 he purchased.
Documents exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters showed that the auto dealer, Mr. Anekwu Chika Valentine of Prestige Autonet Limited, has already contracted a Lagos-law firm to assist him to recover the debt.

A letter of instruction addressed to the law firm of W.K Shittu and Co., stated that the law firm will take 10 per cent of the sum owed by Davido if it is recovered.  
                         
On February 10, Davido issued two Zenith Bank (account number 100424****) cheques of N10million and N1.4million respectively. However, the latter, which apparently was to pay a part of the N7.4million was not honored by Zenith Bank, where the auto dealer is also a customer.

Giving a dud cheque is a criminal offense punishable by a two-year jail term.

Reckless Bullion Van Kills 2, Injures JAMB Candidates

A bullion van belonging to a commercial bank has killed two persons and injured three prospective JAMB candidates waiting for their PIN number at a Skye Bank branch in Lafia.

An eyewitness said the incident occurred at about 3pm on Tuesday when the driver of the van said to be on top speed lost control of the Toyota Hilux pick-up van and rammed into a commercial motorcycle rider conveying a candidate.

The witness said that the van driver was eating while driving when the accident occurred.

He said, “The vehicle crushed the okada rider, his passenger and then knocked down three other persons standing along the road. The okada rider died on the spot while the JAMB candidate later died the same day at about 6pm at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital where she was rushed to for treatment.”

One of the victims, who spoke to Northern City News on his sickbed, Mr. James Chima, said he was rescued from under the van after it knocked him down.

“I was standing by the roadside beside the Skye Bank premises when suddenly a police van rammed into me and I found myself under the vehicle,” he narrated.

Another eyewitness, whose sister was hit by the van, said he narrowly escaped being hit by the vehicle which he said was on a high speed.

“I was with my sister, Aisha Ikpanago, who had just completed her JAMB registration process in Skye Bank and we were discussing when suddenly the police vehicle knocked her down and hit other prospective JAMB candidates,” he said.

Ikpanago could not speak when she was visited in the hospital as she was in pain.

The police spokesman in the state, DSP Idrisu Kennedy, confirmed the incident, but noted that the vehicle involved in the accident belonged to a bank and not the police.

"The driver is an employee of the bank and most of the bullion vans are properties of the banks."

Kennedy said investigation had commenced into the accident.

Senator Ita-Giwa to dump PDP for APC today

                                   
An erstwhile presidential adviser, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, has declared that she will today, 7th April join the Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Mama Bakasi, as she is fondly called made this disclosure on Thursday in Calabar.

She said the reason for pitching her tent with the APC was because her contemporaries are in the party.

She told newsmen that,

“I have been idle in the PDP for over one year now. It is time for me to move on politically with my huge Bakassi supporters. 

Besides, nearly all my contemporaries are in the APC. So, it is time for me to join them and work for the progress of the party at the state and national levels.”

Ita-Giwa represented the Cross River South Senatorial District on the platform of the All Peoples Party from May 1999 to May 2003.

After her exit from the senate in 2003, she joined the PDP, and became former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters.

Reacting to the development, the Acting state Chairman of APC, Mr. John Ochala, described her defection as a welcome development.

“It is a welcome development. Her crossing over to the APC is good. She should take her time to study and understand the party’s constitution.”

Nigerian man killed in South Africa, others injured in fresh Xenophobia attack

A Nigerian, Razak Ajao, yesterday was killed during a mob attack against foreigners in Polokwane, Limpopo Province of South Africa. Four others were injured.

The Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, Mr Martins Cobham, confirmed the incident. “I can confirm that a Nigerian, Razak Ajao, an auto mechanic was killed and four others injured".


The Nigerian mission has formally registered a protest to the South African ministry of foreign affairs on this sad incident.

The ministry said they would get back to the mission and that is the situation we are now,” he said, adding that the mission had also reported the attacks to the South African police.

However, Mr Ralph Nwachukwu, a Nigerian national in South Africa, put the death toll at two.

He said two Nigerians, were killed during the attack which took place when Nigerians resident in Polokwane, were holding a meeting.

Putin Calls Trump's Airstrikes An 'Illegal Act Of Aggression'

Vladimir Putin has called the US airstrikes on Syria an 'illegal act of aggression' in a furious response to the military action.

The Russian President warned of grave damage to relations between Washington and Moscow which are already 'in tatters'.

Putin believes that the missile strikes on a Syrian air base broke international law and have seriously hurt US-Russia relations.

The Russian leader regarded the U.S. action as 'aggression against a sovereign nation' on a 'made-up pretext' and as a cynical attempt to distract the world from civilian deaths in Iraq, Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov was cited as saying.


U.S. officials said they informed Russian forces ahead of the missile attacks and that they took pains to avoid hitting Russian troops at the base, saying there were no strikes on sections of the base where Russians were present.

Boy bathes his female friend with acid thinking it was Izaal-Birthday Celebration Palava

A 14-year-old girl, Victoria Emmanuel, has been left badly scalded after her 13-year-old friend, Moshood Yusuf, bathed her with acid during the victim's birthday celebration on March 29, around the night market at Mafoluku, Oshodi area of Lagos State. 

It was gathered that while her peers were pouring water on her body, the boy entered a woman’s shop, brought out a bottle and emptied its content on Victoria.
According to Yusuf, he thought it was a liquid water disinfectant known as Izaal when he poured it on the girl. When newsmen visited the victim’s No. 1, Baba Elegbe Street, Mafoluku residence yesterday, Yusuf’s parents were there suing for peace. .
Victoria, who just returned from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where she was being treated, said she told Yusuf not to pour the content of the bottle on her since they did not know what was inside.
Moshood’s mother, Mrs. Ganiyat Yusuf, insisted that the incident was a mistake, adding that her son would not hurt anyone intentionally.

“It was just a mistake. In fact, Moshood also got burnt by the acid on his chest and leg. .
He didn’t know the content of the bottle and since they were jubilating, he poured it on her without knowing.

It’s a regrettable mistake. But what we want is for peace to reign. We don’t want a situation where both families would start fighting over it or the two children becoming enemies.”
