Lagos-based lawyer, Udeme Odibi, who reportedly stabbed her husband, Otike Odibi, to death, has allegedly confessed to the murder.
The police said the 47-year-old called her mother on the telephone immediately after committing the alleged crime to tell her.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, who gave the update on Monday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja, said the suspect also sent a message to her sister on WhatsApp shortly before the incident.
The CP added that the suspect had procured a set of new knives from which she allegedly picked to kill her 50-year-old spouse.
It was reported that Udeme last Thursday allegedly stabbed her husband with a knife at their residence on Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Ajah.
She was also said to have cut off his private parts and placed them on his hand before she stabbed herself in the stomach.
Udeme, however, survived the attack and was admitted to a hospital.
Imohimi said investigations into the case revealed that the couple had marital issues bordering on extramarital affairs.
He said, “On the day of the incident, the suspect sent a WhatsApp message to her sister-in-law complaining about her husband and asking her to pray for them. She equally asked God to forgive her.
“The suspect, Udeme Odibi, in her statement, confessed to the commission of the alleged crime and called her mother on the telephone that she had killed her husband. The suspect had hit her husband with a frying pan on his head before stabbing him with a knife.”
Imohimi explained that Udeme, after ripping out her husband’s intestines, did not seek assistance from their neighbours, adding that the killing was suspected to be premeditated.
The CP said, “The suspect had procured a set of knives which she used to execute her plan. She had packed all her certificates and made arrangements to travel to the United Kingdom that Thursday through Virgin Atlantic.
“The autopsy on the deceased is currently being carried out at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, by a team of pathologists, while the forensic analysis result is being compiled and will be made public later.”

Police Arrest Lady Over Death Of Rich Lover In Lagos Hotel
Lagos police command said it had arrested a lady identified as Gift Mike in connection with the death of her lover, Daniel Grant, a South African national, who she spent the night with.
Grant, 50, was reportedly found dead in the early hours of Sunday at the Emerald Cove Hotel on Sinari Daranijo Street, Victoria Island.
It was said that the deceased was found hanged in the toilet of the facility with his legs on the floor.
Commenting on the incident, the police commissioner said the posture of the deceased and other evidence clues at the scene suggested that he was murdered.
He said the case had been transferred from the Maroko Police Division, where it was initially reported, to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, for further investigations.
The CP said, “The complainant, one Abu Ismail, the manager of the Emerald Cove Hotel, reported that one of their guests was found hanged in his room.
“He stated that on Saturday, May 5, the deceased, a South African national, and his girlfriend, Gift Mike, checked into the hotel. On the same day, the two lovebirds left the hotel to Pat Bar, Victoria Island, on a drinking spree and returned to the hotel around 1.30pm before they retired to bed.
“Around 1.30am, the girlfriend, Gift Mike, woke up and found the deceased missing on the bed. She later found him in the toilet hanged in a vertical position and raised the alarm, which attracted the attention of the deceased’s friend, Piyush Srivatsatav, an Indian national, and some staff members of the hotel.
“The investigation team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCIID, Yaba, and forensic experts from the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, visited the scene of crime and took samples for scientific analysis. The girlfriend has been arrested.”
The corpse was said to have been deposited in the Lagos Island General Hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
Business Mogul Warren Buffet Loses $1.14bn
Business magnate Warren Buffett has recorded a $1.14 billion loss at Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. in the first quarter of 2018.
According to the company, the loss was due to new accounting-rule changes, which the Oracle of Omaha had predicted would cause problems.
The rules require Berkshire to report unrealised gains or losses in equity investments in net income.
The “requirement will produce some truly wild and capricious swings in our GAAP bottom line,” Buffett warned in his annual letter to shareholders released in February.
The accounting change “will severely distort Berkshire’s net income figures and very often mislead commentators and investors.”
According to Buffett, operating results are a better barometer of company performance, due to Berkshire’s more than $170 billion stock portfolio can fluctuate from quarter to quarter.
Operating profit, which doesn’t include those changes, jumped 49 percent to $5.29 billion during the first quarter as insurance underwriting swung to a profit after a difficult 2017
