A final year student of the Imo State University, Blessing Amam, was on Monday found dead alongside her lover, identified as Emeka in her hostel in Umudagu-Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state.
Southern City News learnt on Tuesday that the deceased student was a final year student in the Department of Theatre Arts, who was expected to graduate in August.
It was learnt that she slept in her hostel room with her lover on Sunday but both of them could not wake up the next day (Monday).
A neighbour, who craved anonymity, said it was the smell from the deceased room that alerted other occupants who had returned from school that something was wrong.
She said, “The students came back from school and started inhaling very offensive smell and on inquiry, it was discovered that it was from Blessing Amam’s room.
“Her flat mates called her but she did not respond. The door was forcefully opened and behold, Blessing and her lover were found dead. There were blood stains and marks on their bodies. Blood equally gushed out from their mouths and nostrils.”
The source, who expressed worry over the circumstances that could have led to the death of the suspected lovers, maintained that the deceased were full of life the night before, adding that there was no indication that they were in any trouble or distress in the room that night.
When a reporter visited the hostel, nobody including the security guards was seen, as the whole compound including the street was deserted.
On inquiry, the reporter was told that the students had fled because they did not want to be arrested by the police.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the incident said, “It was a case of sudden and unnatural death.”
He, however, said that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dasuki Galandanchi, had ordered an investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of the lovers .
“It is confirmed. It is a case of sudden and unnatural death. The commissioner of police has called for a thorough investigation into the matter. On receipt of the information, our men at Mbieri division rushed to the scene of the incident.
“The necessary information that aid investigation process has been collected but we call on the members of the public that has pieces of information that will help us unravel the circumstances that led to the death to please come forward,” he said.
The Director of Information, IMSU Students’ Union Government, Mr Desmond Joseph, who also confirmed the death of the final year student and her lover said, “Amam Blessing, a 400 level student of Imo State University, Department of Theatre Art is dead. She was found dead alongside her boyfriend.
“Their bodies were discovered because of the offensive smell that perturbed neighbours who traced the source. They broke the door to discover Blessing and her boyfriend with stains of blood from their mouths, nose and other parts of their bodies. Woman Kills Son, Because She Wanted A Girl-Child
A woman in India has been arrested for allegedly killing her 10-month-old son after the infant’s body was found in a water-filled drum outside her house, police said on Monday.
A senior police official said the woman, in contrast to the general narrative on female infanticide, has revealed that she killed her son because she wanted a girl child.
The child, Prem Parameshwar Erande, had allegedly gone missing from the house in Paithankheda village of Paithan tehsil in Aurangabad district early Sunday, police said.
The woman, Vedika Erande, had filed a complaint with Bidkin police station following her son’s disappearance.
In her complaint, she stated that her child had possibly been abducted, the official said.
“A few hours after the complaint was filed, a police canine, on Sunday evening, zeroed in on the child lying dead inside a drum filled with water in the verandah of Vedika’s house,” Assistant Inspector Pandit Sonawane of Bidkin police station said.“Since the death looked suspicious, we questioned Vedika and another relative. The accused’s answers were unconvincing,” Sonawane said.“It was revealed during questioning that Vedika killed the 10-month-old Prem. She told us that she already has an elder son and was expecting a daughter when she was pregnant with Prem. This is the reason behind her committing this act, she has told us,” Sonawane added. The woman has been charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

US Approves First Cannabis-Based Drug
The drug’s approval permits its use in patients aged two years and older with Dravet Syndrome (DS) and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), rare childhood-onset forms of epilepsy that are among the most resistant to treatment.
“This approval serves as a reminder that advancing sound development programs that properly evaluate active ingredients contained in marijuana can lead to important medical therapies,” said Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb.
The drug, Epidiolex, is made up of cannabidiol (CBD), one of the hundreds of molecules found in the marijuana plant, and contains less than 0.1 percent of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component that makes people high.

British Man Tackles Thieves To The Ground After Stealing £170 From Woman
This is the shocking moment a suspected thief was tackled to the ground by a businessman on his lunch break.
The flying tackle took place this week in Manchester city centre after a woman said £170 had been taken from her at an ATM.
Members of the public then held the suspect – a 43-year-old man – against the ground while others called police to the scene.
Officers confirmed a suspect was arrested at the scene and later questioned on suspicion of theft.
The victim is believed to have received her cash back.
One onlooker said: ‘I was just walking down the street when all hell suddenly broke loose. One guy was running full pelt whilst others were running behind him shouting: “Stop thief.”
‘He was then rugby tackled to the ground and pinned down. Some onlookers were going on about the guy’s human rights and calling for him to be let go but I’m guessing they didn’t know what was going in the run to it.
‘The guy put up quite a struggle but he was no match for the others who grabbed him. It was like a scene from an old fashioned TV 1970s cop show.’
‘A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft from the person of another and remains in custody for questioning.
‘Enquiries into the full circumstances around this incident are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police.’

Mike Adenuga Son Involved in Child Legal Issue
Eniola, the son of telecommunications cum business mogul, Mike Adenuga, has been accused of allegedly abducting his daughter, Athena.
Punch Metro learnt that the 28-year-old, accompanied by some policemen, allegedly went to pick up the three-year-old at her school in the Lekki area of Lagos State on Friday, May 18, 2018.
He was alleged to have refused to release the child to her mother despite a court order which reportedly granted him access to the child only on weekends.
Punch gathered that Eniola and the child’s mother, Damilola, dated during which the 25-year-old became pregnant and had the child.
Disagreement was said to have broken out between the duo and their families, resulting in a legal battle for the custody of the child.
Punch correspondent learnt that in September 2017, a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court gave an interim order, which awarded custody of the child to the mother.
While Eniola was given unrestricted access to the child, he was, however, asked to pick her every Friday and return her to the mother on Sunday.
The arrangement was said to have been running smoothly until on May 18 when the father allegedly took Athena from school.
In a petition to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, the Falana and Falana Chambers, which is representing Damilola, said Eniola’s action was “tantamount to abduction.”
The law firm explained that the violation of the court order could result in a breach of the peace, urging Imohimi to bring Eniola to book.
The petition read in part, “On Friday, May 18, 2018, our client dropped off Athena at school (Marymount School, Rachael Nwagwu Street, Lekki) around 8.30am, as usual. About 2pm same day, our client returned to the said school to pick up her daughter. To our client’s dismay, the school told her that Mr Eniola Adenuga in company with some mobile policemen came to the school and forcefully took Athena away without her school bag.
“Our client immediately called Mr Eniola Adenuga to find out why he took the child away without her consent, contrary to the order of court that our client remain in custody of Athena and access given to Mr Adenuga every week from Friday to Sunday in company with Athena’s nanny.
“Mr Adenuga did not take the calls or respond to message sent to him by our client till date, safe for his one sentence response that he had taken Athena. Till date, our client does not know the whereabouts of Athena and has confirmed from the school that Athena is not in school.
“Our client is distressed as the conduct of Mr Eniola Adenuga is likely to cause a breach of public peace.”
A family member, who asked not to be identified, said Damilola had been traumatised by the incident.
He said, “The arrangement was that the mother picked the child from school and Eniola takes her from the mother. On that day, the mother was told that Eniola came to the school and took her.
“Since that time, the school authorities said they had been sending her homework to the father through email. All efforts the mother made to reach him had been abortive. The only time he responded, he merely said he had switched custody to himself. We are talking about a three-year-old girl that has never been without her mother for this long. The mother is a pharmacist who has her own source of livelihood.”
Damilola confirmed the incident to Punch, but declined further comment.
“Please, just help me get my child back,” she said.
Eniola, when contacted on Tuesday, promised to call back.
Punch Metro was expecting his call when one Deji, who claimed to be Eniola’s friend and lawyer, called to speak for him.
Deji said there was no issue of abduction because Eniola picked the child on a Friday.
He explained that he decided to keep her because an application for an extended custody (beyond weekend) of the child was truncated after the case was transferred.
He said, “What he did cannot be said to be illegal. He has every right to his child. The child was born after a relationship between the parties, which did not work out. If not for the case in court, this matter would not have got to this level.
“There is an application before the court for an extended custody. Midway into that, the case was reassigned because they (Damilola’s lawyers) wrote a petition (against the magistrate). The case has been transferred without a ruling on Eniola’s application (for extended custody).
“Usually, he takes the child on Friday and returns her on Sunday. So, the child was taken on Friday, but on the Wednesday/Thursday preceding that Friday, the case was transferred. So, already, the child is with Eniola. The transfer coincided with that time; so, the thing is hanging.
“He took the child on the Friday that he usually picks her. Later that Friday, the (court) registrar called and said the case had been transferred to Ikeja (court). Ikeja needs to assign it to a new judge, who will go over the case file.”

PDP Will Return To Power In 2019 - Jonathan, Atiku
Former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday expressed optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would return to power in 2019.
They said the party is getting stronger.
They spoke with journalists when the ex-President hosted Atiku at his home in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
On PDP chances in 2019, Jonathan said in a statement issued by his spokesman, Ilechukwu Eze, that the party is better poised to win next year’s presidential election.
He said: “Yes, we had some issues in 2015. But as you know politics is a very dynamic business. I believe PDP is coming back and getting stronger.
“Even though we are in the opposition with fewer governors, PDP is still the strongest and largest party in the country.”
Jonathan said he was pleased that the former Vice President who came to Bayelsa to commission State Government projects paid him a visit.
The ex-President said he had enjoyed a long relationship with Atiku, beginning from his time as Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.
Atiku insisted that only the PDP has the strength and structure to win the presidential election in 2019.
He said: “It is actually the PDP that has the strength and structure to get back to Aso Rock. There is no other party that has the structure and strength like the PDP. Without PDP, APC should not have been in Aso Rock.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger Slams Trump's Immigration Policy
Since the Trump administration announced its 'zero tolerance' policy in early May, more than 2,000 children have been forcibly removed taken from their parents at the US-Mexico border.
The government has faced withering critiques over images of some of the children in cages inside US Border Patrol processing stations.
'As an immigrant, I know the magnetic power of America's greatness. As a former border Governor, I know the importance of securing our border and fixing our absurdly broken immigration system. As an American, I know that kids shouldn't be pawns while the 'adults' figure it out,' Schwarzenegger tweeted on Tuesday.
'The administration is right that we need to fix our immigration system. But if anybody is going to be in a cage while we wait for a comprehensive reform, let's make it the politicians who don't do their jobs in the cages, not innocent kids.'
It comes after the Associated Press reported that Trump administration officials have been sending immigrant babies and other young children to at least three 'tender age' shelters in South Texas.
Lawyers and medical providers who have visited the Rio Grande Valley shelters described play rooms of crying preschool-age children in crisis

Ghana Football Head Denies Cash Gift
The second-most powerful man in African football has branded video of him apparently taking cash gifts "lies".
Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) head Kwesi Nyantakyi was seen taking $65,000 (£48,000) from an undercover reporter.
But Mr Nyantakyi says the footage was doctored, dismissing it as "shoddy work with cut and paste".
He also says that audio snippets have been "inserted" and rearranged so as to falsely incriminate him.
It is against the rules of Fifa, football's world governing body, to accept any gifts of cash.
Mr Nyantakyi resigned from his posts with Fifa and the Confederation of African Football (Caf) after the footage was made public in June.
It is the first time he has commented on the allegations since stepping down.

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the temporary forfeiture of N2.2billion recovered from former Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Adesola Amosu.
Justice Mojisola Olatoregun made the order based on an ex-parte application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The judge ruled: “An interim order is made forfeiting to the Federal Government of Nigeria the total sum of N2,244,500,000 found and recovered by the commission from the first respondent (Amosu) which sum is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activity.”
The judge granted an interim order for the temporary forfeiture of N190,828,978.15 recovered from a former Nigeria Air Force (NAF) Director of Finance and Budget Air Commodore Olugbenga Gbadebo.
Justice Olatoregun also ordered temporary forfeiture of N101 million recovered from Solomon Enterprises, a company linked to Amosu.
EFCC said the sum “is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activity.”
The judge directed EFCC to publish the interim order in The Nation and The Punch so that the respondents or anyone interested can show cause as to why the final order of forfeiture should not be made in favour of the Federal Government.
Justice Olatoregun made the order on June 7 after the ex-parte application was moved by the EFCC’s lawyer, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo.

Yahoo Messenger Finally Shutting Down After 20 Years After 20 Years Of Operation
Yahoo Messenger has announced it is shutting down on 17 July 2018 after 20 years in action. “We know we have many loyal fans who have used Yahoo Messenger since its beginning as one of the first apps of its kind,” said Yahoo’s parent company, Oath.
But these loyal fans weren’t enough to keep the platform going after so many years. Instant message applications were regarded as truly revolutionary 20 years ago. From the “ping” option in Yahoo Messenger to notify someone, to the “warning” lightning bolt you could send someone on AOL Instant Messenger if they were annoying you, these platforms taught us how to communicate on the internet.
But, with the rise of platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Slack and WeChat, there isn’t as much use for the originals anymore. For example, over one billion people use WhatsApp every day now
Checkout the man With the Longest Penis and How It affected His Career
The man who claims to have the world’s biggest penis at 13.5 inches says it has ruined his career in acting.
Jonah Falcon, 47, has failed to land any major Hollywood roles and says its all because of his massive manhood.
He says his ‘naturally large’ penis has earned him a reputation among film directors who are put off by stories surrounding his privates.
Jonah, who lives in LA, said: ‘It’s handicapped my acting because people won’t hire me. ‘It sucks – it relegates me into doing smaller parts. ‘Maybe in the UK or Germany it might help my acting career, but here in Hollywood it’s a negative.’
Despite the apparent career knockbacks, Jonah says he loves getting compliments from porn stars and claims having an exceptionally large penis has helped him in the bedroom.
‘I’ve slept with celebrities including Oscar nominees and Oscar winners,’ he said, adding: ‘but I can’t talk about that.’
Jonah claims to be nine inches when flaccid and 13.5in when erect, compared to the average of five to six inches when erect for men.
‘It’s thicker than my wrist,’ he added.
Jonah’s size may be impressive but he still doesn’t beat Roberto Esquivel Cabrera, who in 2015 claimed to have the biggest penis in the world at 18.9 inches.
However, Jonah has previously accused Cabrera of ‘cheating’ to get the world’s largest penis, saying that he stretched it with weights.

‘’Please Don’t Kill Us, We Robbed To Pay WAEC Fees’’, Imo Pupils Beg Police
The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Dasuki Galandanchi, on Tuesday paraded two teenagers, Emmanuel Ewudo, and Chinwe Nwaane, (15), and 23 others for attempted robbery, kidnapping and burglary.
Parading the suspects, the police boss said the command would charge them to court after investigation.
But one of the suspects, Ewudo pleaded for leniency, adding that they attempted the crime because they were trying to raise funds to register for the West Africa Certificate Examination.
He said, “Please help us beg the police not to kill us, we are sorry for breaking into somebody’s house, we were trying to raise funds to register for the West Africa Certificate Examination.”
The boys, who are students of Bishop Shina-Hand College in Orlu, said that their quest to pay for the WACE fees led them into crime.
Galandanchi said the duo broke into the residence of one Mrs. Chigozie Ohajiogu in Akokwa, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State with the intent to rob her.
Her cry, according to Galandanchi, made the suspects to flee, adding that they returned in about 45 minutes later but escaped being arrested by policemen that had come to secure the area.
He said they were nabbed in their school.
The other suspect, Nwaane, said, “Yes we are students. My father has been bedridden and in hospital and unable to pay my WAEC fees, I begged my friend to accompany me somewhere. We went to rob the woman but we were not successful.
“We were caught one day after. We are very scared, we don’t want to be killed but we know that it is wrong to break into somebody’s house.”
