The Federal Government on Thursday announced a lifeline to financially distressed Arik Airlines to continue to keep it as a going concern in the aviation industry.
The management of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON, said the decision to intervene clearly underscores the government’s commitment to instill sanity in the country’s aviation sector to prevent a major catastrophe in the country.

Under the new arrangement, the airline would be managed by Roy Ilegbodu, a veteran aviation expert, under the receivership of Oluseye Opasanya, a respected SAN.

AMCON spokesperson, Jude Nwauzor, said:
“The development will afford Arik Airlines, which is the largest local carrier in the country, to go back to regular and undisrupted operations, avoid job losses, protect investors and stakeholder funds as well as ensure safety and stability in the already challenged aviation sector.”

Senate President Bukola Saraki has stated that he had a conversation with President Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently on vacation in the UK, on Wednesday night.
Saraki said the president was in high spirit, and that both of them cracked joke.

“Happy to have spoken with President Buhari tonight. He was in good spirits and joked about my working late into the night, as usual,” he tweeted.

Saraki’s tweet came hours after Hajiya Rakiya, the only surviving sister of Buhari, said since the president left in January, she has been speaking with him every day.

Buhari was expected back in the country on Sunday, but he wrote a letter to the senate, informing the legislative chamber that his vacation had been extended due to "series of tests".

British Airways Makes It Clear, It Won’t Operate From Kaduna During Abuja Airport Closure

British Airways yesterday said it will refund airfares to passengers who are billed to travel with the airline from Abuja during the closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja for six weeks for repairs on the runway. This is one of the three options the airline gave concerned passengers yesterday.

This is because the airline has decided not to operate from Kaduna Airport during the closure of Abuja Airport.

Aside the full refund, the other two options are that passengers could rebook their flights to and from Abuja to an alternative date when the airport is open “before or after the runway repairs.”

A statement from the airline’s media consultants, signed by Mr Nosakhare Emma-Iyamu said: “We have been informed that the runway at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja will be closed for extensive repairs between March 7, 2017 and April 19, 2017.

Unfortunately this means that we have to cancel all flights to/from the airport for that period of time. “Customers who are affected are being contacted and offered a choice of three options: A full refund, rebook their flight to/from Abuja to an alternative date when the airport is open before or after the runway repairs have been undertaken or rebook their flight due for Abuja to/from an alternative city of Lagos or Accra.

We are awaiting more information from the authorities in Nigeria and at this stage we hope that we can restart our normal flight schedules from Heathrow to Abuja on the evening of April 19 and from Abuja to Heathrow the following morning on April 20, 2017.

“We will update this position as we receive more information about the runway repairs in the coming weeks.’’ British Airways Country Manager, Mr. Kola Olayinka has said the airline plans to assess its best options for its customers during the closure period of the runway.

According to Olayinka , “I can confirm that BA will not be operating to Kaduna during the planned closure of the Abuja Airport. Many factors were considered before this decision was reached. Major ones concern the safety and security of our passengers as well as difficulties around some key operational issues.

We are currently evaluating all options for our customers planning to travel at that time and we will be reaching out directly to them for information about their trip.”

He further explained that catering services as well as “adequate technology were not in Kaduna including simple equipment like the Common User Terminal Equipment among others.”

Nigerian lady married to white man murdered & hubby cremated her without her family's approval

The family of Mrs. Oluwashola Gaska (nee Adefolalu) has petitioned the Federal Government of Nigeria to unravel the mystery surrounding her death in Poland and the cremation of her corpse by her husband, Mr. Jakub Gaska, without their consent.

The deceased’s elder sister, Mrs. Abimbola Essien-Nelson, at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, alleged that Oluwashola was murdered and her corpse hastily cremated to cover it despite the family’s objection.

In the petition, dated January 29, 2017, and titled, ‘Petition against Mr. Jakub Gaska for the murder, unlawful cremation and burial of Oluwashola Atunrayo Gaska (nee Adefolalu) in Krakow, Poland, on December 28, 2016,’ the family detailed how the late Oluwashola, who studied in Poland, settled in the country and later married Gaska in 2010.

The petition read in part, “The last verbal conversation I had with the deceased took place on December 24, 2016, and she made no complaint about her health. At about 11.28am, on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, I received a telephone call from the husband that ‘there had been an accident, Shola had fallen unconscious and had died.’

“The husband did not tell me the nature of the so called accident. I was still conversing with the husband when the telephone was disconnected.

“The husband later called me back on the same day, stating that Oluwashola fell ill on Tuesday, and that he and his sister took her to a hospital (the name of the hospital was not provided). He said she passed away at about 3am on Wednesday, December 28, 2016.”

The petition added that plans were being made to travel to Krakow to give the deceased a befitting burial when her husband informed them that her remains would be cremated as he and Olwashola agreed during a discussion.

It was gathered that the family requested that the husband wait until the arrival of family members in January 2017 to partake in the funeral rites.

“We also made it clear to him that because of the sudden nature of her death, we want to see her corpse. We sent several sets of representatives from the Nigerian community to him in this regard, but he refused to allow anyone access to the corpse. His response was that Oluwashola said only Ambibola and no other person, should see her corpse,” the petition read.

Mr. Gaska reportedly cremated Oluwashola’s remains on January 2, 2017. He also allegedly interred the ashes on January 7, 2017, without officially informing the Adefolalus.

"When you marry a man that completes you , nothing is too much for him
When I started hairbywanneka in 2013, as a new bride and pregnant wife , my husband wanted me to put to bed first before I do anything
But the hustler in me will not let me rest 😂 so I started by business by just displaying pictures on BBM, I didn't even know about instagram
After small money came out of the hair , I begged my hubby to plz get me a store in Festac and invest small money in it , I even promised to pay back , he immediately agreed and we got one , he put it in place and gave me some money to buy hairs , after my 1 year in that shop , I didn't leave with money or goods
Before we left Festac , knowing I have failed him the first time, I started begging him again to pls get me a store in Lekki 😂 without shame , I even said "ok borrow me the money 😂 as begging , he aggreed again and paid for my first shop in Lekki, put some goods in it for me , again everything went down the drain , after 1 year I left the store with nothing to show for it ,
Now for the 3rd time , I was begging for a new shop , this time , hubby didn't even buy the idea , trust woman and Wahala, I fought him 😂kept malice and almost said am not marrying u again 😳 to avoid Wahala , I was in sch one day and he called and said "madam we have gotten you the shop" 💃💃💃 I danced back home 🙌 I told him the reason y I failed in the first Lekki store is because people in Lekki like fine shops with good interior 😂😂 he then put this one up in a Lekki way for me , even with that nothing 😂6 months into the new store , I saw another disaster , i felt for the man who had been investing and not getting anything back , at that point , I knew I had to do something
Then I put in my all into my small business and now see how far we have come . While my business was on standstill , I will demand for all the latest phones 😂 I'll ask for a change of car 🙌 without shame 😂
This same man will buy it , I'll even ask for a driver again 😂Willy this Range Rover EVogue is for you my darling, today I can proudly say to you that ur money wasnt wasted.this is from my small business to u 💋 I love u baby#mostsupportivehubby#mollinswellspnt"

The police have accused a nursing mother, Tina Promise, of slashing her rival’s face and breast with a razor blade
The police said Tina, a mother of three including a three-month-old baby, suspected that her lover was also dating a cleaner ‎at Eko Hotel, Esther Onogwu.

It alleged that on Monday at about 9:20pm on a street on Victoria Island, Lagos, Tina, 28, accosted Onogwu, 22, on the suspicion that her lover was in Onogwu’s home and attacked her with the blade.

Tina, of No. 71b, Molade Okoya Thomas Street, Victoria Island, was arraigned Wednesday before Magistrate A. F. Botoku of an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on a one-count charge of unlawful assault.

Prosecuting Sergeant Francesca Job told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on February 6, 2017, at about 9:20pm.

Responding to a question from Magistrate Botoku, Job said:

“On the day of the incident the victim was on her way home after close of work when the defendant approached her and demanded for the key to her room. Onogwu asked who the defendant was and why she needed the key to her house, but ‎the defendant suddenly brought out a razor blade and started cutting her on her head and left breast.”

She then tried to leave but passersby apprehended her and asked her to take the victim to the hospital for treatment, but she refused, saying she didn’t have money to pay for the treatment.”

It was the passersby, Job said, that took Onogwu to the Bar Beach Police Station from where she was taken to a hospital.”

According to the prosecutor the alleged offence was punishable under Section 244 (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Tina denied the charge and Magistrate Botoku granted her N200,000 bail with one surety in the like sum.

She adjourned the case till March 1.
