Armed robbers raid church while pretending to be delivery men

A manhunt has been launched for two armed robbers, who stormed a church and robbed people at gunpoint while pretending to be delivery men.

Congregants of Hillsong church in Cape Town, South Africa, were reportedly robbed by the armed robbers who pretended to be delivery men.

“There were four staff members in the building at the time, including a security guard who called the police. No one was hurt. The perpetrators are still at large and police are investigating,” the church said in a statement.

While it was gathered that there were security measures in place at the building, the church has disclosed that it was considering additional ways to further ensure the safety of the congregation and staff.

“The incident has only served to strengthen our resolve to build a church that will help build this nation, which we love, and which we know God loves deeply too,” the church said.

It also thanked the police and Century City security services for the way they handled the situation.

“We are very thankful that everyone is okay,” the church said.

Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, the Western Cape police spokesperson who confirmed the incident said the armed robbers robbed employees of their cellphones.

“It was not a hostage situation,” said Rwexana, in response to claims on social media after police flooded the area.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation with no arrests as yet.”

Asamoah Gyan files for divorce, demands DNA test to determine he is kids’ father

                                   

Ghanaian footballer, Asamoah Gyan has filed for divorce from his estranged wife, Gifty Gyan, at the Divorce and Matrimonial Division of the High Court, Accra.

Asamoah Gyan who is filing for divorce from 5-year marriage on claims of irreconcilable differences, has reportedly not seen his wife in the last few months. The footballer who is also denying being the father of their three children, is also demanding a DNA test to be carried out on all three to ascertain if he is the father of the children.

Sources close to the wife of the Ghanaian footballer, claim that Asamoah suddenly grew cold towards Gifty after another woman came into his life. His alleged mistress, Nina Atala was reportedly mistaken for Asamoah Gyan’s wife in June, at the grand opening of his new sports bar located in Osu, Accra.

The lady was also spotted with Asamoah Gyan when he came to Ghana recently for his summer vacation, however when reports started making the rounds earlier this year about a possible love-affair between Gyan and the said woman, the business woman denied it.

According to her, her relationship with Gyan was purely professional as she owns a property that houses one of Gyan’s companies. However it is now alleged that their relationship is beyond ‘landlord- tenant’ relationship, as the two are currently courting and set to marry after his divorce to his current wife Gifty Gyan.

The marital crisis of Asamoah Gyan and his wife Gifty was heightened by an alleged seizure of Gifty’s passport by Baffour Gyan, who is the elder brother of Asamoah Gyan, to supposedly prevent her from returning to Asamoah’s residence in the United Kingdom.

School owner beats ex-employee demanding his salary

A school owner identified as Mr. John Bassey, has been accused of beating an ex-employee, Saka Daniel who showed up at his property to demand his salary this morning.

Mr. John Bassey who reportedly owns School Music Masters, SMM, Oke Aro, Ogun State which engages the services of trainers like Saka Daniel, was allegedly infuriated after his ex-employee asked for N15,000 unpaid salary.

The school owner who withheld the salary for three months after Saka resigned, reportedly attacked his ex-employee after he stormed his school this morning to make a fresh demand over his salary. Mr. John Bassey reportedly assaulted Saka mercilessly, and he was saved by other staff who intervened.

It was also gathered that he tried attacking the person recording the incident, and ended up chasing Daniel out of his school premises without paying him.

Woman Brutalised As EFCC Arrest Her Husband In Lagos

Some officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC9 in Lagos have been accused of abducting two men, Ola Are and John Isiga, who are standing trial at the Badagry Magistrates’ Court.

John’s wife, Faith, who was said to have protested against the arrest of her husband, was allegedly brutalised and arrested as well.

It was learnt that Are (39) and John (49) had been arraigned in the court on September 21, 2018 by the Morogbo Police Station on alleged fraud.

After reportedly perfecting their bail conditions, the defendants had returned to the court for trial on October 24 when they were allegedly whisked away by the EFCC officials on the court premises.

The defendants’ counsel, Saidi Sanni of Leo Chambers, alleged that there was a plan to take the two men to Enugu State.

He said, “The two defendants were arrested and investigated by the Morogbo Police Division for a case of alleged fraud. After the investigation, they were charged to court and remanded in custody for about four weeks before their bail was perfected.

“On October 24, the matter came up for mention for the first time. While they were in court, some EFCC officials laid siege to the court and abducted them without allowing them to stand trial on that day. They took them away together with Mr John’s wife, who protested against the arrest. When she refused to follow them, they dragged her on the floor.

“On Friday, I went to the EFCC’s office and I was told that there was an EFCC official in Enugu, who is a relative of the complainant. The relative used his connection to get them re-arrested and planned to transfer them to Enugu. That was after the police charged them to court for the same case.”

It was learnt that the duo had been allegedly involved in a mobile banking fraud of over N500,000.

Sanni said he had written a petition to the EFCC office in Lagos and demanded the release of his clients, failing which he would institute a legal action against the agency.

The petition, obtained by our correspondent, stated that the EFCC team was led by one Mr Aminu Chauwagu of the Ikoyi, Lagos office of the agency.

“The EFCC has acted ultra vires and against the tenets of the rule of law despite the pendency of the case before a court of competent jurisdiction.

“The EFCC should adhere to the rule of law by obtaining a court order in the event it cannot await the pending case before the Magistrates’ Court 2, Badagry.

“For the avoidance of the doubt, we want to state and reiterate most emphatically and categorically that this unfortunate action of the EFCC will definitely not go unchallenged.

“We strongly demand that our clients be released within 24 hours and their property, including a Honda car with number plate, SMK 37 EC; laptops and phones be returned,” the petition read in part.

John’s wife, Faith, who corroborated Sanni’s account, said she was brutalised.

She said, “I was there (court premises) and they arrested me as well. They handcuffed me; I was injured. They dragged me on the floor and I fell. There was blood all over my body. My hands and legs were bruised. I was later released.

“Ola (Are) was the one the police arrested. My husband went to the police station to see him and he was arrested as well. My husband is a friend to Ola’s father. That was how he was involved.”

An official of the EFCC, who spoke to The Punch on condition of anonymity, alleged that the suspects were members of a syndicate, adding that the complainant in the case was also arrested.

The official, who refused to give details, said the suspects were in the custody of the agency, noting that the complainant had been released.

“We do our jobs professionally. They were not arrested during court proceeding and it is not true we plan to take them to Enugu. They are members of a syndicate and investigation is ongoing,” he added.

The spokesperson for the EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwajaren, did not pick his calls and had yet to respond to a text message sent to him as of press time.

Our focus on how to create jobs, not on how to dance Shaku Shaku – Obi

The running mate to Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, has mentioned that the country’s leaders should be more focused on moving the nation forward and not learning how to dance Shaku Shaku.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had said he is learning the dance step ahead of the 2019 general election.

Speaking with journalists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport in Abuja upon his arrival from Dubai on Monday, Obi said the Atiku team is spending its time thinking of how to create jobs and not learning how to dance Shaku Shaku.

“I have not had the opportunity of reading his comments as I haven’t seen the dailies. I know Vice-President Osibanjo is a gentleman and may not have made such a comment,” Obi said“However, while I am not against people dancing or learning how to dance ‘Shaku Shaku’, as I believe it is one of those things that is keeping our people going on in this very difficult times, I believe that the crossroads that we have found ourselves in as a nation requires sober reflection.
“For me in particular, this period calls for sober reflection not dancing or learning how to dance as there are many challenges facing our nation at the moment. Not the least being recently having our country named the world headquarters of extreme poverty with over eighty seven million people. Worse still millions more are losing their jobs, with four million by the third quarter of this year alone.
“Millions of Nigerians go to bed hungry not knowing where the meal for the next day will come from, hundreds of thousands risk death by crossing the Sahara and the Mediterranean Sea to wherever they can make a living.
“These and other challenges are indicative of the dire straits facing us as a nation today. And these are what we on the Atiku team are spending our time with the best minds on how to start creating jobs and putting food on people’s table. We must get Nigeria to start working again for the good of everyone.”
