Man divorces wife for tying wrapper, allowing neighbours see her 'nakedness'

                                          


A mother of six, Titilayo Abdul-Hammed, has lost her 17-year-old marriage for making her husband a laughing stock in the neighborhood by giving the neighbours a free show with her 'nakedness.'

An Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Wednesday granted the request of her estranged husband, Minkail Abdul-Hammed.

Abdul-Hammed, a cleric, 57, had approached the court seeking to end his 17-year-old marriage with Titilayo, because her nakedness was seen by spectators free of charge.

In his testimony, Abdul-Hammed said that his wife was always disgracing him in public as she was fond of tying only wrapper to watch television in the neighborhood.

“I bought my wife clothes, but she will never wear them; she prefers to tie wrapper on her chest.

“There was a day I came home from the mosque and was looking for my wife because she did not come for the Jumat prayer.

“I was told she was in the third house, so I went there and met her in front of the TV with residents of that house despite the fact that I bought T.V in all our rooms.

“I queried her for preferring TV to mosque and ordered her to follow me home.

“She refused and as I was trying to push her from the room, her wrapper dropped, and behold my wife was neither wearing a pant nor a brassier.

“The residents in the room saw my wife’s nakedness live and direct and were making jest of us. I was embarrassed and ashamed.

 The petitioner also accused his wife who was absent from court of being fetish.

“Of recent, I noticed that my wife always lock her room and keep the key to herself whenever she wants to take her bath or do anything within the premises.

“One day, she went to buy something and locked her room as usual. I searched for the duplicate key because I was curious and opened the door.

“I sighted a paper in which a long incantation was written on it and my name was mentioned.

“I was to search her closet when I heard her footstep coming, I quickly locked the room, I took the paper to show her family members,” he said.

Abdu-Hammed also described his wife as being wasteful with food as she was in the habit of cooking far in excess of what they could eat.

“I have always told her to measure food before cooking and that she can always give out the remnant to the poor, but she prefers throwing them away.

“She has stopped cooking for me since 2012 and told me to be doing the cooking which I am still doing,” he said.

The Court President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, in his judgment said that it was obvious from available testimony and the respondent’s refusal to appear in court that the marriage had “hit the rock”.

“Throughout the duration of this case, the respondent refused to honor court processes.Therefore, the court has no other choice than to dissolve the marriage.

“The marriage between, Minkail Abdul-Hammed and Titilayo Abdul-Hammed is hereby dissolved. “Both parties are no longer husband and wife; they are free to marry any partner of their choice without any hindrances and molestation,” he said.

Jobless Man Beats Landlord To Coma In Lagos; for preventing him from killing his sister

                           

Too much of anger! A Lagos landlord was beaten to coma by one Sunday Ugah for preventing him from committing murder.

The 29-year-old unemployed Ugah living at Iju-Ifako area of Lagos was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

According to prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, the accused committed the offences on September 7 at Agege, a Lagos suburb. The accused assaulted a landlord, Mr. Musiliu Lawal, by tearing his clothes and beating him until he became unconscious.

Sergeant Egunjobi said the complainant was beaten because he intervened when the accused wanted to kill his sister. He said: “The accused went to his elder sister’s shop to ask for N2,000 but his sister refused; he descended on her and dealt her several blows on the face and body.

“When he was not satisfied with the beating, he picked a broken bottle threatening to stab her to death if the money was not given to him.

“The sister took to her heels and ran into the complainant’s house for her dear life, but the accused pursued her.

“When the complainant saw the accused was running towards his building with a bottle, he locked the entrance door to prevent him from entering.

“When the accused got to the door and discovered that it was locked, he damaged the door and broke into the house but could not find his sister.

“He approached the complainant (Landlord), tore his clothes and beat him up until the complainant was unconscious.”

The offences contravened Sections 166, 171 and 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Funny enough, the accused Ugah pleaded not guilty.

He was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Oshibajo, adjourned the case to November 29 for trial.

DPO’s daughter kidnapped, DVC escapes with bullet wounds

Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics, Cross River University of Technology, Prof Gabriel Ikpi, is currently recuperating from gunshot wounds sustained after he escaped being kidnapped.

The incident, which happened over the weekend, had thrown the university community into panic.

Also, an unidentified daughter of a former Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, Mr. John Umoh, was kidnapped in Calabar on Monday.

This came just as the Executive Secretary of Obudu Urban Development Authority, Mr. Canice Atsu, was on the same day abducted by unknown gunmen in his Obudu home.

According to Southern City News, while the deputy vice chancellor was said to be recuperating from gunshot wounds, the abductors of Umoh’s daughter had demanded N20m, even as the police officer offered to pay N115,000 to the kidnappers.

A source, who spoke on Ikpi’s kidnap attempt, said the deputy vice chancellor escaped from the car after the gunmen had cornered him.

The source said, “The suspects attempted to kidnap the deputy vice chancellor for ransom, but luck was on the side of the Professor of Agriculture as he successfully fought his abductors.

“He escaped in the end with a gunshot on his leg. He is believed to be traumatised, but recuperating in the hospital.”

On the kidnap of Umoh’s daughter, a source said the policeman, who is currently the DPO in charge of Mbo Division in Akwa Ibom State, had offered to pay N115,000 but the kidnappers rejected.

It was learnt that DPO Umoh’s wife also sustained bullet wounds in the encounter with the abductors in Calabar. 

A source said, “The gunmen had a gun duel with the DPO before they succeeded in taking the daughter. I understand that the wife was shot when she struggled to save her daughter. She is said to be in the hospital.

“The kidnappers have demanded N20m but the DPO could not raise the money. He was only able to raise N115,000 and it is not clear if the abductors have collected that money."

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, said, “For the case of the Obudu kidnap, no official report was made to the police, but the commissioner has asked the DPO to monitor and investigate the situation. For that of Umoh’s daughter, we are on top of the situation.”

Breaking News: Many reportedly killed as bomb blast hits Muna garage, Maiduguri (pics)

An unconfirmed number of people have been killed in a latest bomb blast at Muna garage in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital today, Wednesday.
Members of the civilian JTF said evacuation is currently ongoing.

According to a JTF member,

“The suspected Boko Haram members were three in number and died in the suicide attack. For quite sometime now, the terrorists have been making frantic effort to attack Maiduguri, but we were always stopping them.

“Just about five days ago another was killed who came through Jiddari polo side, coming from Alidawari village and now the attack today at Muna,” Kabiru Shuibu said.

According to him, Soldiers and Police bomb squad have been detailed to the site of the blast.
However, a text have been sent to Major Ibrahim Mustapha of the 7 division Nigerian Army for confirmation but there was no reply as at this time of filing this report.

But hospital sources in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital told Daily Post that 18 people were killed in the attack while 26 others were injured.

Niger Gov. Stops Payment Of Wassce Fees, Says I Can’t Be Paying N800m For Students To Fail

                        



The Niger State Government said it would discontinue the payment of the West African Senior School Examination Certificate Examination and National Examination Council fees for its students in secondary schools in the state.

The state governor, Sani Bello, disclosed this on Tuesday when he visited the Justice Legbo Kutigi Secondary School to inspect the ongoing renovation of the school in Lavun Local Government Area of the state.

Bello said government could not continue to pay N800m every year for students only for just five per cent of them to pass the examinations.

He said government would rather invest such money in infrastructure development and provision of instructional materials for qualitative education.

“We must review the issue of the payment of NECO and WASSCE fees because at the moment, we owe the National Examination Council and the West African Examination Council about N800m.

“Government spends such huge amount of money on students that cannot even have four credits. Only about five per cent of students will have four credits and above.

“Basically, it is like we are throwing away money. We will rather stop and invest the money in the facilities so that with time we will get good results.

“We have made efforts to pay part of the money and the results will be released.

“The Commissioner for Finance has met with NECO and WAEC officials and there is an understanding that the debt issue will be addressed,” he said.

He said the payment of examination fees would henceforth be based on criteria where only best performing students would be selected as beneficiaries.

But parents and guardians in the state have appealed to Bello to reverse government’s decision to stop the payment of WASSCE and NECO fees.

They argued that it would not only be a serious burden on them but that it would also affect the educational standard and future of their wards.

A Punch correspondent, who went round Minna, learnt that as a result of this decision, some parents might not be able to pay for these fees again, and this could truncate their children’s educational ambition.

 A social critic, who is also a parent, Suleiman Dangana, said there was no wisdom in stopping the payment of WASSCE fees in the state.

Dangana said, “It is a sad development because the decision is targeted at poor parents, who cannot afford to pay the school fees of their children and since they cannot afford it their wards would have to withdraw from school and this will paint the state government in a bad light.”

Another parent, Mohammed Paiko, who spoke to our correspondent, appealed to the state government to look at the economic background of the students and urgently reverse the decision so that they would be able to compete with their counterparts from other states.

Paiko said, “If the state government goes ahead to implement this very sad and unfortunate decision, apart from increasing the number of children that will drop out of school, the future of our children will be hanging.”

Detectives found a Rolls Royce in the fleet of about 15 cars of one of the seven judges under investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS), yesterday.
The judge was said to have hired a notable construction firm to build his palatial home and imported furniture from Brazil, Argentina and Spain. The judge, said a source close to the investigation, once conducted his “poor colleagues” around his mansion.

Another judge told the DSS that he did not know how N18million was paid into his account and he did not get alert to enable him complain to his bankers.

One of the judges also said the money found in his account was his accumulated medical allowances.
Another judge was found to have submitted three assets declaration forms to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

The asset forms of the seven judges, who were arrested last weekend in a controversial sting operation, were being analysed by the DSS yesterday.

The Federal Government has foreclosed the return of all the seven judges to the bench.
The government believes the judges cannot be in the dock and be adjudicating at the same time.

Those arrested are: Justices Sylvester Ngwuta and Inyang Okoro – the suspended Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Ilorin Division, Justice Mohammed Ladan Tsamiya, who was picked up in Sokoto; Justice Adeniyi Ademola (Federal High Court); the Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice I. A. Umezulike; Justice Kabiru Auta of Kano State High Court; and Justice Muazu Pindiga (Gombe State High Court).

Of the seven Justices, Tsamiya, Umezulike and Auta have been recommended for sanctions by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

Detectives have uncovered more corrupt practices traced to some of the judges undergoing probe, the source said, pleading not to be named because he is not permitted to talk to the media.

The source said: “Operatives have discovered that one of the judges owns a mansion which was contracted to a construction firm at a huge cost. In fact, the judge imported furniture from Brazil, Argentina and Spain.
“At a stage, he conducted his ‘poor colleagues’ round the mansion in an open display of affluence. The judge has about 15 cars, including a Rolls Royce. This Rolls Royce was imported.
”During interrogation, another judge told DSS team that he did not know how and when N18million was lodged in his account because he was not getting alert from his bank. But we have evidence of withdrawals from the account.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “We have retrieved the assets declaration forms of these judges. It was shocking that one of them has three asset declaration forms with different dates of birth.”

He said instead, the government had asked the NJC to suspend them, pending the conclusion of their trial.
Those who may not be allowed back to the bench are Justice Ngwuta, Justice Okoro, Justice Ademola and Justice Pindiga.
The source said the judges could be retired.

He said however that the judges will still go through trial to enable Nigerians know that “they were actually caught in the act”.
“The position of the government is that none of these judges will be allowed back to the bench in the interest of the nation’s Judiciary. They cannot be arraigned in the dock and at the same time be adjudicating or attending to cases.
“It is left to the NJC to allow the affected judges to keep off the bench until their fate is determined. But certainly, they will face trial and the outcome will determine whether or not they will be retired or dismissed.
“We are expecting the NJC to do the needful by suspending the judges.”

It was gathered that President Muhammadu Buhari and Chief Justice Mahmud Mohammed had actually met on the arrest of seven judges.

A source said: “The CJN sought for audience and met with the President on Saturday on the arrest of the judges. I think they compared notes but no one can give you the details.
“I think the President must have briefed the CJN on the security reports at his disposal.”

Even Buhari's close friends won't be spared in the fight against corruption -Osinbajo

                                 

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that president Buhari's friends and associates are not exempt from the anti-corruption war.
Speaking during a special interview session with journalists at the presidential villa on Tuesday, the Vice President said: 

“The major drain on the country’s resources. No one would be spared in the fight against corruption because, even the close friends of the President know that they will not be spared; he will not cover for them. Fighting corruption is a priority”. 

Osinbajo also revealed that 200,000 unemployed graduates had been selected to be engaged by the federal government under the N-power jobs Programme.

 “We expect that before the end of the month, we will engage 200, 000,” out of the 500,000 unemployed graduates the Buhari administration plans to hire in the N-Power jobs programme.”

Syria chaos: Heavy air strikes resume on Aleppo

Russian planes have resumed air strikes on rebel-held districts in the city of Aleppo, in what activists say is the heaviest bombardment in days. At least 25 people are reported to have died, including children.

The bombardment follows a temporary lull called by the Syrian government, partly to allow civilians to leave rebel areas in the east of the city.

It has come under intense aerial attack since a ceasefire brokered by the US and Russia collapsed last month.

The air strikes came as Russian President Vladimir Putin cancelled a planned visit to France.

Girlfriend & Guarantor Arraigned After Driver Absconds With N7.2m Fuel

                            


The police in Lagos have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Joy Okeke, after her boyfriend, Ofoagbu Ekene, reportedly diverted 40,000 litres of diesel worth N7.2m and fled.

Okeke was apprehended along with a teacher, Lukman Kelani, who was said to have stood as a guarantor of the fleeing suspect at Northbridge Oil, which employed him as a driver.

Punch Metro learnt that the company had sent Ekene to deliver the fuel at a filling station in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on October 1.

It was gathered that the company became worried two days after when the filling station that was supposed to receive the fuel called that it was still being awaited.

After a futile attempt to reach Ekene, the company was said to have reported the matter to the police, which eventually recovered the company’s empty tanker at Aba, Anambra State.

The police subsequently traced Ekene to his residence in the Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos on October 5 and picked his girlfriend up. The woman was said to have led the operatives to the guarantor’s house.

The girlfriend told the police that she was at home together with Ekene on October 1 when he received a call from the company to embark on a trip to Port Harcourt.

She said, “We have been together for four months now. I only know he hails from Abia State. I don’t know any of his family. We were at home on that day when he was called from the office to take fuel to Port Harcourt. He called me two days after, requesting that I send him recharge cards which I did. He said the vehicle he travelled in was faulty.

“I was surprised when I was told by the police that he diverted the fuel and fled.”

Kelani, the guarantor, said Okeke, who is her church member and a colleague, persuaded him to vouch for Ekene when the company wanted to employ him.

The 35-year-old teacher, who hails from Ogun State, added that the last time he heard from Ekene was September 24, when he (Ekene) congratulated him on the telephone on the birth of his new born baby.

He said, “I stood as his guarantor because of the relationship between his lover and me. We attend the same church and teach in the same school. The last time we spoke was on the telephone. My wife just gave birth and Ekene called to congratulate us. I don’t know his whereabouts.”

The police, however, said the duo had refused to give useful information to trail the prime suspect and consequently arraigned them on Tuesday in a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on one count of perversion of justice.

The charge read, “That you, Lukman Kelani, Joy Okeke, and others at large, on October 5, 2016, at about 10am, at the Elemoro Police Station, in the Lagos Magisterial District, conspired among yourselves to obstruct, prevent, pervert or defeat the cause of justice by refusing to give the police any useful information about one Ofoagbu Ekene, who you (Kelani) signed for as a guarantor to enable him to secure a driving job at Northbridge Oil and having secured the job, he stole 40,000 litres of diesel valued at N7,280,000 property of Northbridge Oil, abandoned the truck in Anambra State and ran away.”

The police prosecutor, Inspector Philip Osijale, told the court that the offence contravened Section 97 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the count.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. M.B. Folami, granted them bail in the sum of N2m each with two sureties each in like sum.

Folami added that the sureties must relate to the defendants by blood and deposit N500,000 each to the account of the chief registrar.

The defendants were remanded in prison custody pending when their bail conditions would be perfected while the case was adjourned till November 21, 2016.

Fear Grips Maryland Residents After Three Live 30-Foot Pythons Were Killed (Photo)

                        

Some security guards of Greenland Estate in the Mende, Maryland area of Lagos State killed three 30-foot pythons in the early hours of Tuesday.

Punch Metro learnt that the killing of the reptiles brought panic into the estate as residents expressed fear for their safety.

It was gathered that the animals were exposed after the dredging activities of the Lagos State Government.

It was gathered that after killing the pythons, the security guards on the estate put them up for sale for N10,000.
The Vice Chairman of the estate, Sola Adekoya, said more than 15 pythons had been killed on the estate in 2016 alone, urging the government to find a lasting solution to the overgrown canals in the area.
He said, “The security men and some squatters caught the three pythons this morning around 8am. The giant snakes were about 30-foot long.

“We have seen more than 15 pythons this year alone; the guards kill them regularly. The reason is that the canals are overgrown and the snakes always hide under the canals. We need government’s  intervention on time to avoid any tragedy.”

It was learnt that residents of the area always stayed indoors at night for fear of being attacked by snakes.
A visitor to the area, Adewale Adeoye, told Punch Metro that he saw the three snakes when they were alive.
Adeoye urged the Lagos State Government to create a zoological garden for the animals to preserve them and generate income for the state.
He said, “These snakes are worth a fortune abroad. The Lagos State Government should conduct a wildlife survey in order to preserve threatened animals and plants.

“How can you be talking of a mega city without a green zone or a biological garden? The young men have gone to sell the snakes for N10,000; a generation of rare animal species gone down the throat in less than 24 hours. This merely reflects poverty of ideas in governance.”

Comedian Basketmouth's mum would have been 60 years old today but sadly, she passed on in the early hours of Tuesday, October 4th after a brief illness.

Family of Kidnapped sick Lagos schoolboy pays N1m ransom

The family ofone of the four pupils of Lagos Junior Model College, Igbonla, Epe, Lagos State, who was reported to have fallen sick in kidnappers’ den, paid N1m ransom on Tuesday.
A source close to the family, who confirmed the development to PUNCH Metro, said the family expected the boy to be released.

The victims, who comprised four pupils –Okonkwo Emmanuel, Isaac Adebisi, Abu and Jeremiah – an English Language/Civic Education teacher, Lukman Oyerinde, and the Vice-Principal, A.O.
Oyesola, were kidnapped on Thursday.

The attackers on Thursday, October 6, at about 8am, stormed the school premises while the junior school was rounding off the morning prayers.

The assailants, from Friday to Sunday, continued to call the families of the victims to negotiate the ransoms from N5m to N3.5m and then to N1m for each victim.

The gunmen on Saturday had also fired a warning gunshot on the telephone, while ordering the family of one of the victims to hasten on the ransom.

On Sunday, they had called again to inform the family of the schoolboy that their son had fallen sick.

PUNCH Metro had reported on Tuesday that the kidnappers had called the family that the pupil’s health had deteriorated, adding that his ransom had to be paid urgently.

It was learnt on Tuesday that the family of the schoolboy, who fell sick in the kidnappers’ hideout, had taken N1m to a place of agreement.

The place was not disclosed to PUNCH Metro.

The source told their correspondent that the family members were awaiting the return of the schoolboy.

She said,

“The ransom was paid on Tuesday. But he has not been released. There is a rumour that he will be back tomorrow (Wednesday). The family members paid N1m ransom. They took the money to the agreed location which was not disclosed as ordered by the gunmen.

“The relations had earlier offered a swap of the sick boy with a relation, begging the kidnappers that they were concerned about his deteriorating health, but the kidnappers had declined the offer.”

Punch learnt from another source that the victims in the kidnappers’ hideout were more than the four pupils, the teacher and the VP, as three other residents in the Ikorodu and Epe areas were reportedly abducted on Friday and Saturday.

The phone number of one of the parents of the schoolboy had yet to connect as of press time on Tuesday.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, had yet to respond to a text message sent to her phone on the development, Punch reports.
