Woman jailed for attempting to sell her twins for N350k

A Katsina State Senior Magistrates’ Court has sentenced to 10 months in jail, Salima Lawal, who was arrested for attempting to sell her 32-day-old twins for N350,000 in December 2017.

The court, however, gave her an option of N10,000 fine. In his judgment on Wednesday evening, the presiding magistrate, Nuradeen El-Laden, explained that he gave Lawal a light sentence in view of the health of the twins and that of the mother herself.

He noted that a woman attempting to sell her children might have been battling abject poverty. El-Laden noted that the convict and her babies had spent a number of days in the prison custody, adding that Lawal had shown remorse for her action.

Bayelsa Community In Pandemonium as Militant Behead Security Official

                         
Residents have reportedly fled Ndoro community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa for fear of invasion by security agents following alleged beheading of a security operative by militants.

Premium Times correspondent learnt on Friday that the murdered security official was negotiating with militants in the area to surrender their arms.

According to a resident, the community was thrown into apprehension on Monday “after the lifeless body of the ‘security emissary’ was seen in the community without his head.

The source said the victim could not be identified because he was in plain clothes. “The community has been deserted as we speak due to fear of imminent manhunt for the militants behind the dastardly act,” the resident said.


However, the Bayelsa State Government on Friday called on the fleeing members of the community to return home, saying everything was under control.

Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the state Commissioner for Information, said Governor Seriake Dickson had held a meeting with security chiefs, officials of the military high command, and leaders of the community over the incident.

The Commissioner said the member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, also attended the meeting.

Mr. Iworiso-Markson, in statement on Friday, said the meeting resolved that the military should move into the community to return normalcy, while the government begins a peace process.

“His Excellency Governor Seriake Dickson met with very senior security chiefs and the military high command as well as leaders and key stakeholders to decide on the steps to take and it was agreed that the military will move in to provide the needed peace. ‎

“So we call on all those who have fled the community to return. There is no cause to be scared as government has intervened to ensure that the situation is brought under control,” the statement read in part.

The government called on all who had fled the community to return home, assuring that with the presence of the military they could go about their normal businesses.

The government said the situation had been brought under control by the state government’s quick intervention, while expressing regret over the incident.

Woman fakes fainting after assaulting Delta State commissioner

                      

There was drama, recently, in Sapele, Delta State, after a woman identified as Odemi aka ‘Money stop nonsense’ allegedly attacked DESOPADEC Commissioner, Jonathan Amitaye.

According to reports, Amitaye, who was driving a Hilux, had told her to move her big counter, to allow him and others, thorough passage in the front of her store which is by the roadside, but Odemi refused.

An argument later ensued and degenerated to Odemi and her sister tearing the commissioner’s shirt.

According to reports, when the crowd told the woman that the person she was dragging with is a commissioner, the woman allegedly pretended to have collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.

Nas & Nicki Minaj Relationship Hit The Rock

                       

Nicki Minaj and Nas have split after seven months of dating.The rapper, 35, and the hip-hop star, 44, are said to have parted ways ‘a few weeks ago’ after the strain of a long-distance relationship proved ‘too much’, with Nicki living on the west coast in Beverly Hills and Nas based in New York City.

Two siblings were burnt to death yesterday afternoon in the kitchen when fire swept through their home at Mission Road, Jesse Town, Delta State.

“They two children who are said to be siblings were inside a kitchen when fire from no where rounded them up, but what I don’t understand here, is why no one could came to the kids rescue because I believe they must have shouted Enough The mother of the kids came back saw the house on fire with help to bring down the fire, unknown to her the kids was at home and found out their are already burnt beyond recognition I cry when I saw the photo of the dead kids.
Advice to parents out there to be very careful and don’t leave their kids for a long time to market or church because anything can happen within just 20mins may the soul of the kids rest in peace…..”

Unknown Militia Attack Gov Obaseki Convoy

                                         

A spokesperson to the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has released a statement saying the governor was attacked in the state.

Robin Crusoe also said the Managing Director of BUA’s Obu Cement Company, Yusuf Binji, has been declared wanted over the attack.

BUA and Dangote cement have been at loggerheads over the ownership of a mining site in Okpella, Edo State.

The state government asked that work stop on the site and on Wednesday led security officials there were two BUA staff were arrested for allegedly continuing work.

On Thursday, Mr. Crusoe quoted the police as saying that the attack on the governor was sponsored by Mr. Binji.

The Nigeria Police have declared the Managing Director of BUA’s Obu Cement Company, Yusuf Binji, wanted over an attack on the convoy of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

Also attacked were some officials of the Edo State Government who were on the convoy of the Edo State Governor.

According to the police, the decision to declare Mr. Binji wanted became necessary as it had earlier received intelligence that BUA International Limited is sponsoring militias in Okpella, Edo State, where the company has a cement factory and mine sites.

These militias, the police said, were allegedly sponsored by Binji and his team to attack the convoy of the governor, cause harm and mayhem.
