A Federal High Court in Abuja has refused a request by a senator, Dino Melaye, for police officers to vacate his residence and desist from further attempts at arresting him.
Mr Melaye had approached the court after the police officers laid a siege to his residence following allegations by the senator that the police planned to poison him.
Mr Melaye also asked the court to stop the police from what he described as acting in a manner threatening his life.
The requests were presented as ex-parte applications after Mr Melaye asked the court for enforcement of his fundamental rights in the same court.
An ex-parte application could have allowed the judge to grant the order without hearing from the police.
In a ruling on the ex-parte application on Thursday, a judge, N. E. Maha, refused the application, but ruled that the substantive matter be granted accelerated hearing.
The police have insisted on arresting Mr Melaye, accusing him of involvement in the killing of a police officer.
The controversial senator is already facing two separate charges of attempted suicide and allegedly arming criminal suspects.

Bride In Tears After Guests Ate Up Wedding Cake Before Photos
Months of planning go into organising the perfect wedding, and most couples spend huge amounts of time making sure every tiny detail is exactly how they want it.
So sometimes it can be hard to accept when things go wrong. One bride was left in tears after her guests made a rather awkward mistake at her wedding, which denied the bride of many people's favourite tradition.
When the couple decided it was time to cut the cake, they were horrified to realise hungry guests had beaten them too it.
The cake, which was made from cheese, didn't have bride and groom on the top, leading a least four of their nearest and dearest assuming it was part of the meal and tucked in. Oops.
A guest said the mistake caused an "absolute war" to break out and said the bride was in fits of tears.
One of the guests shared the story on Mumsnet.
She wrote: "You won't believe what happened at a wedding last night.
"No, I'm not the guest in question.
"Evening guests turned up at 7pm. Around 8pm bride and groom decided to cut the cake. Only to find cake had already been cut by a hungry guest.
"Cake in question was a three tiered cake made of different cheeses. Surrounded by grapes and crackers/biscuits. No little bride and groom on top.
"An absolute war broke out about it. Half the people saying well, how were they supposed to know it was the cake, other half saying it was pretty obvious.
"Cake was in a separate room to the bar and dance floor. Bride in tears (or tiers boom boom).
"Around three or four people had taken some of the cake by the time they realised!"

Burna Boy Slam Coachella Organizer For Belittle Him
Burna Boy has called out Coachella organisers for belittling him, after he was named among the performers at the 2019 event.
2018 was indeed a good year for singers Mr Eazi and Burna Boy, as they were bought named among the performers in the upcoming Coachella 2019.
Well, there was something Burna Boy was not pleased about the announcement that he was to perform at the international music show.
Burna Boy took to his Instagram page to share the news. Although appreciative for the invite, Burna Boy is however displeased that his name was written so small on the list against others that were written boldly.
He has however urged the organisers to write his name boldy as he is an African music giant and that he will not allow himself to be belittled.
