Accident on third Mainland Bridge leaves several persons badly injured, Lagos (Photos)

An accident occurred about an hour ago on third mainland bridge, leaving some people badly injured.
According to Facebook user, Moremi Ojudu who shared photos and live videos from the scene, the bus somersaulted after the vehicle's back tyre burst while the driver was on high speed and lost control.

An ambulance arrived later and took the injured persons away. See more photos after the cut...

First Time In 58 Years, Fresh Tomatoes Arrive Lagos From Kano By Train

Indeed, history was made on Tuesday when fresh tomatoes from Kano State arrived Lagos by rail. According to reports, this will be the first time fresh tomatoes will be transported from Kano to Lagos by train since 1959, about 58 years ago.

I want to thank those who have made it possible including the minister of Agriculture. After this, it will now be weekly affairs. We will move a lot of these things conveniently.”

Hameed Ali Fails To Appear Before Senate, Gets Thursday Ultimatum

The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Hameed Ali, did not appear before the Senate on Wednesday to brief the lawmakers on planned action on vehicles without duty payment.

But in accordance with Section 89 of the 1999 Constitution, the Senate resolved to “compel” Mr. Ali to appear on Thursday “to state his case”.

The Customs’ planned policy to impound vehicles without duty payment has been suspended, the service announced Wednesday morning, in obedience to a Senate resolution.

But the Senators were not satisfied. They insisted on Mr. Ali’s appearance, regardless of the announcement to suspend the policy which set him on collision course with the Senate.

On Wednesday, just after the Senate dissolved into committee of the whole to receive Mr. Ali, who did not appear eventually, Senate President Saraki read a letter dated March 14 from the customs boss, disclosing the decision the duty payment policy.

But he recommended legal opinion to himself and the Senate on the compulsion to appear before the Senate in uniform.

In the letter, he told the Senate he was bereaved, therefore citing reason why he could not appear today, Wednesday.

‘Bereavement’ was Mr. Ali’s second excuse. In his first letter to the Senate earlier on Tuesday, he said he had to attend n NCS management meeting about same time he was expected to be at the Senate.

Mr. Saraki also told his colleagues Mr. Ali visited him Tuesday evening and made commitment to suspend the policy on duty payment.

Kabiru Marafa, APC-Zamfara, was the first to react to Mr. Ali’s failure to appear on Wednesday.

Then, George Sekibo, PDP-Rivers, spoke, urging the Senate to invoke the Section 89 of the Constitution which granted the legislature power to issue warrant of arrest in the event Mr. Ali fails to appear.

Efforts by the Senate Whip to amend Mr. Sekibo’s motion were rebuffed by his colleagues who shouted him down, showing apparent rage.

The motion was later seconded by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu without amendment.

Female Suicide Bombers Blown To Pieces In Borno Today

Four young ladies sent on suicide bombing mission killed 2 other men, a total of 6 dead, when they detonated explosives at Usmanti along Muna Garage road in Borno State.

The unfortunate incident happened at about 1.15am, sending shock across the town.

According to NEMA North East who shared pics online, 16 people who got injured were administered with first aid by rescue workers before being transported to the state specialist hospital and University teaching hospital in Maiduguri Borno state.

Security personnel have cordoned off the area.

Jonathan’s godson Finally Arrested Over Looted N2bn

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a godson of former President Goodluck Jonathan for allegedly stealing N2bn from the NDDC.

The EFCC said it traced deposits of N2bn paid into his bank accounts.

According to the commission, the suspect, George Turnah, who is also a former Special Adviser to Mr. Dan Abia, the erstwhile Managing Director of the NDDC, was arrested by the Port Harcourt office of the commission.

The anti-graft agency said it had searched Turnah’s houses in Yenagoa and Port Harcourt and found some incriminating documents.

The EFCC said, “He was arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in connection with alleged possession of funds running into N2bn, suspected to be funds siphoned from the NDDC while serving there as an adviser. Turnah, widely believed to be a godson of former President Goodluck Jonathan, served in the NDDC between 2012 and 2015.

“Preliminary investigations by the EFCC threw up deposits made in his personal and company bank accounts in excess of N2bn. A search conducted in his houses in Port Harcourt and Yenogoa, yielded useful documents.

“Turnah has made useful statements to the EFCC and will be arraigned as soon as investigations are concluded.”

Turnah is not the only relative of the former President that is under investigation by the EFCC.

Jonathan’s cousin, Robert Azibaola and his wife are currently facing charges before a Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly receiving $40m.

Azibaola, who has admitted receiving the money, claimed the money was for a "special contract".

South African gay musician, Kolo Bala has lost the battle against a three-years long encounter with Anal Cancer. He died on Monday, March 7, 2016 at a hospital in Cape Town, South Africa.
Bala was diagnosed with the disease in 2013 and was quite open about his predicament, determining that he will overcome the health challenge by all means.
Unfortunately, that has not been the case.
He is a member of the music group 3sum, also the second to die after the passing of group member, Jeff Moyo in 2010, making Amstel Maboa as its only survivor.

Details Of N49m Impounded At Kaduna Airport By EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday impounded N49m abandoned in five sacks at the Kaduna International Airport.

The owner of the money is suspected to have attempted to smuggle it out of the country.

The EFCC said in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, that the bags were left unattended to and without tags.

Upon examination, the bags were found to contain crispy naira notes with seals "emanating" from the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc seen on the packs.

The statement by EFCC read in part, “Operatives of the EFCC, Kaduna Zonal Office, on Tuesday, intercepted the sum of N49m in five large black 150kg sacks following a tip-off.

“During a routine baggage screening, five sacks were sighted unattended to and without tags; they contained fresh bulk items suspected to be money.

“Upon examination, the bags were found to contain crispy naira notes of N200 denomination in 20 bundles totalling N40m and N50 denomination in 180 bundles totalling N9m with seals purportedly emanating from the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc seen on the packs.”

The EFCC added that investigations into the matter had commenced to identify the culprits.

The Head of the EFCC, Kaduna Zonal Office, Mr. Ibrahim Bappah, who spoke on the discovery, told newsmen that the money was found at the baggage check-in of the Kaduna International Airport, ready to be taken out of the country.

Bappah said the discovery of the cash was made possible via a tip-off, prompting the operatives of the anti-graft agency to intercept the money.

Explaining that the owner of the cash initially showed up, Bappah said the owner, whose name was not given to journalists, could not authenticate the amount in the sacks and disappeared before EFCC officials arrived at the scene.

He said the agency would begin investigation to know the source of the money and its real owner.

EFCC said the man's “inability to give any concrete explanation made him become uncomfortable and he disappeared into thin air before the arrival of EFCC operatives.”

Grandmother Sells Three-Year-Old Girl To Pay Rent

A 50-year-old grandmother, Rita Eze, has confessed to being a member of a syndicate that allegedly involved in abducting children from Lagos and selling them in Anambra State.

Eze was paraded along with one Ogochi Nwekei and Gladys Augustine at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday. The fourth suspect, Elizabeth, who was said to be ill, was not paraded.

Punch Metro had reported that Augustine, who claimed to be Mary John, connived with one Samuel, who is at large, to abduct three-year-old Oluwasemilore Adebiyi, from her parents’ residence in the Alagbado area of Lagos.

To hatch the plan, 28-year-old Augustine enrolled for beads-making apprenticeship at Oluwasemilore’s mother’s shop in January, giving her name as Mary John. She fled to Anambra with the girl seven days after.

The girl was handed over to Eze, who confessed to selling her to Elizabeth through Nwekei, for N500,000. Oluwasemilore was, however, recovered by the police after Augustine was arrested in the Badagry area of Lagos on February 23.

Punch Metro had further reported that some parents from different parts of the state had stormed the command and identified Augustine as the abductor of their children, saying the suspect adopted the same gimmick with which Oluwasemilore was abducted.

The victims included four-year-old Farouk and his sister, Kafayat, 6, who were allegedly abducted in the Okokomaiko area in November 2016. The children had yet to be found.

But Augustine denied abducting the kids, saying, Oluwasemilore was her first abduction. She said Samuel had lied to her that he and Oluwasemilore’s mother, Tobiloba Adebiyi, gave birth to the girl, but she (Tobiloba) denied him access to the girl.

The Cross River State indigene stated that Samuel introduced Eze to her as his mother and promised her N50,000 if the plan worked out.

She said, “I came to Lagos in 2010 and I worked as a housemaid. I used the money I got to open a shop. Eventually, I was sent away from the shop and I needed money to start another business. I met Samuel at Mowo bus stop in Badagry in January.

“He said he impregnated a woman and the woman (Tobiloba) left him to marry another man. He said he wanted to get back the child, but the woman refused. He asked me to work for the woman in order to snatch the child and he promised to give me N50,000. On the day I snatched  the girl, I took her to a bus stop and bought her a snack.

“When I took the girl to Samuel, he said I should take her to his mother, Mrs. Eze, in Anambra. He said he would tell the girl’s mother that he was the one who took her. I later returned to Lagos, thinking he had told the woman. I was surprised when the police arrested me.”

The grandmother, Eze, told Punch Metro that she took N40,000 from the proceed, gave Augustine N60,000 and sent the remaining sum to Samuel. She added that she used the money to pay the rent on her apartment.

She said, “I met Michael in December 2016 at a party in Awka through a secondary school friend, who is an aunt to him. He told me that he impregnated a woman in Lagos and that he would send the child to me to help take care of her. When Gladys (Augustine) brought the girl, Samuel told me to sell her for N500,000.

“I informed Ogochi (Nwekei) and she said one of her friends, Elizabeth, wanted to buy a child. Elizabeth paid N500,000. Samuel told me to give Augustine N50,000 and another N10,000 for her transport back to Lagos, while I got N40,000. I sent the remaining N400,000 to Samuel. I used the money to pay my house rent. I have five children and grandchildren.”

Sixty-year-old Nwekei said she only facilitated the sale of the girl, claiming that she did not receive anything from the money.

“I told Rita (Eze) that a friend, Elizabeth, wanted to adopt a child and she promised to call me whenever she got one. One day, she called me that a child was brought to her. I asked her whether there would not be any problem and she assured me that there would be none. I didn’t know it would turn out this way,” she added.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, while briefing journalists on the arrest, said the suspects would subsequently be charged to court.

In this day my darling husband saw his wife and mother of his child bleeding on the floor but was still hugging and puffing. Swearing on his mothers life that that was going to be my last day on earth. 

Swearing that he would "enter Instablog" as the next man who killed his wife. I can't help but imagine 2 conductors on the street fighting, 2 strangers. 

When one starts to bleed the other would think "ha make I calm down oh" talkleas of beating your defenseless wife who did Nothing to you (or please ask him, what I did, I would love to be able to make sense of this, love to know my offense). He showed no mercy, still said to me that I was going to drown in my blood. 

He locked all doors, even balconies invade I wanted to jump out! The man I loved striped to his underwear in front of my friend and the abuse went on for hours, he had 2 of his own friends in the house and even they weren't enough to stop him, he was exchanging blows with them, just to get to me. 

It was as though he had 5 men inside him, determined to kill me. I excaped only by the grace of God. My friend and I were running on the street with blood on me like this and people wondering what happened to us. 

And this was just one day. I can write a book on the living hell I lived. And it's you, who has the guts to bring this to instagram? You are not even worthy of being a role model to your son yet You think you a motivational speaker now?
